I hadn't been here since it was O2, and dare I say, it seems even better than I remember. It was quite crowded for a weekday night, K-pop music videos blasting over the roar of meat sizzling on the cast iron pot tops. Because its so loud and hectic, ordering can get a bit chaotic. I don't love the whole QR code menu thing, but I did write out orders on my Notes app for the first round. The meats all came out as they should. We ordered four different types (as suggested) first and then made a second order halfway through the meal. The portions were a bit bigger than I had expected, though maybe we should have clarified. I liked the galbi steak cut the best, though all of the meat starts burning into a similar flavor after a while. I like that they have the pork jowl still on the menu, as that's a rare part. The meats were all pretty good. Chicken was a little bit bland, but also chicken is not a traditional part of K-BBQ. The side dishes were good, but the service for them were a bit confusing. We had to ask twice for many of the side dishes and gave up on some of them. No refills on the kimchi and pickles. Japchae was cold (it's sometimes served this way) but also flavorless (not normal). The first time, I was not done with my meat... I was just digesting and watching the tv. When I turned back, they already took my food away and threw it out. They also took my friends food too. They gave us the bill. Well it was 930pm and there was no need to rush us out and take the food without asking if we were done or not. I was going to rank this down to 4 stars because I was so unimpressed by the Miso Soup last night, but fugggggit. This place is great. I had no business having miso soup in a Korean joint in the first place. Had an awesome day yesterday, so decided to celebrate a bit with my wife (great days are a huge win in these times, in case you're reading this in the 2040s or something). I think this was our very first time getting KBBQ in our lives and we were looking for a really good introduction. I loved it. When you bring up the menu on your phone (not sure Grandma and Grandpa will be able to eat here unless they're tech savvy), they recommend that you start by choosing 3 - 4 meats (there are about a dozen choices from steaks to bulgogi, chicken and pork), and you can order as many side dishes as you'd like, such as: the miso soup (very delicate flavor here), a bean paste stew that we didn't like, a salad that was fresh and had nice, sweet dressing, Japchae (glass noodles) which was superb, and plenty of others. We ordered sliced brisket and a marinated beef, and a blade steak. The brisket was my favorite, as it really soaks up the delicious sauces they have for you on the table (at least 5 or 6 kinds). My favorite sauce was the House Sauce, but the soy was good, and there was another I loved but I forget what it was called and made with (it was orange, and creamy like ketchup, not spicy). The Marinated beef was really good, and the blade steak as well, though I was pretty full at that point. The service was spot-on... various people would come by and turn up the temp on the BBQ, someone else would come and turn it down, a woman took our order, someone else is bussing the tables... they've got service down pretty well, and the place is designed so that there is pretty much always someone around who you can grab if you need something. I would absolutely go back. In fact, I'm excited to do so to try other meats and sides. The staff was very generous when we asked for more sauce or sides...there was never a feeling of "yikes, please don't eat too much or our food cost will skyrocket and we won't make any money on you." After dinner, my wife ordered a Melon ice cream pop for dessert (they charged something like $2 for that, and for the canned soda we got), and the flavor was so freaking awesome, I want to look for that in H-Mart or somewhere similar with Korean food imports. I think the meat quality is just OK nothing spectacular or super memorable but definitely still tasty and well marinated. I think the price per person is fair. I wish they had more veggies to grill too as that was kind of limited. The steamed egg was standard, but I liked that it's part of the rotation and included in the price. What really was the stand out though was our server and how efficient he was. The guy was just so on top of it, cooked all our meats while also multitasking other things across the restaurant and taking orders. My favorite meat was marinated pork Bulgogi and soy pork ribs. I recommend you stick with the $23.95 special. The beef was just OK. I've eaten here a few times already and they do not disappoint. We've done both group (10+ people) or pair lunches. The service and food have been great. Able to answer questions ahead of time and accommodate on the spot. Despite there being a 90-minute limit for AYCE, we did not feel rushed at all. Review for dinner - Way overpriced for the quality of food given. My party paid around $53PP and we ordered a few sodas. Perhaps it's more affordable during lunch and that would probably be the only time I'd be willing to come back. The top blade steak and hanger steak were almost inedible. They were extremely hard and chewy, our jaws actually hurt from eating it. I would not pay any money to eat that. The only saving grace was the brisket that we really enjoyed. However, the quality of the brisket could've been better. We've eaten at better AYCE KBBQ such as Let's Meat and Meat Me that had way better quality. It was nice they had bean paste stew included to order though - good to order on a cold day. Speaking of cold, we got seated at a table where the end two seats can feel a huge draft from the room in the front. A few of us were seriously freezing. I mean it's fine during the spring/summer, but during the winter, they should try to fix that issue. Limited All you can eat Korean BBQ. O2 BBQ has been around in the Bayside area for some time and has become a goto place for many in town. Despite being described as an All you can Eat Buffet style KBBQ, it has two limiting factors, 1) how many meats they allow you order at once and 2) a time constraint. These two variables are key to limiting the "all you can eat concept". For a party of four you are probably only able to get 9 orders of meat in. However so, the food is solid, and there is a reason they continue to receive repeat customers. It is unfortunate that we were not all full though despite the joint being an all you can eat buffet. Taste: 3.75/5 Ambience: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Value for Money: 3.5/5 We had: 1) Pork Belly: Solid and you can't go wrong, not much seasoning if at all any, but your sauce plate is enough! 2) Soy Pork rib: Chewy goodness 3) Pork Jowl: Solid fats! 4) Beef Bulgogi: Can't go wrong here, a definite recommendation 5) Beef marinated tender steak: a tenderised smashed version of the steak 6) Beef marinated steak: better than the smashed version of itself 7) Beef Brisket: A dryer un marinated version of the bulgogi, less fatty and more thin meat 8) Spicy squid: good for anyone who wants a Korean spice kick! 9) Pig intestine: gritty 10) Steamed egg: pairs well! 11) House Salad: made us feel like we weren't just carnivores, if you order this for a group of four, they will provide a whole big bowl, see photo for reference! I always opt for the Lunch-B for $25.95 pp, which includes a lot more dishes to choose from than the Lunch-A and it's only $4 more. The service was attentive, staff cooked our food on the grill, refilled our waters and checked on us every so often. We ordered the pork ribs, pork belly, bulgogi, brisket and 6 bowls of rice for the 2 of us. Everything was marinated well, I was addicted to their house special sauce and my favorites were probably the beef bulgogi and pork ribs. Service was fine, they cook the meats for you but otherwise not much engagement or friendliness. They tend to give you very big portions so if you want to try more than 4 items to start, you should ask for half portions. I heard a lot of great things about O2 over the years, but I never got around to trying it until recently. A few friends wanted Korean BBQ this past spring and I decided to accompany them for a AYCE party at O2 on a Saturday afternoon. The place doesn't have a parking lot, but you can usually find parking in the neighborhood. The place is medium sized and there weren't too many people there when we arrived around 11:30am. I called ahead of time and they confirmed that pricing on the weekends is set at their standard dinner rate ($38). So we got to ordering and eating, and pretty much everything we ordered was delicious. I think we tried the spicy chicken, spicy pork bulgogi, spicy pork rib, pork belly, beef bulgogi, beef thin brisket, kalbi marinated steak, and spicy squid. I was so busy eating that I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted. I'm no expert but it seems like all their meats are pretty quality status and nothing really tasted like it was sub par except for the bean paste stew, which was a bit more watery than good ones I've had at other Korean restaurants. So kudos to 02 on the taste front. Service was pretty good too; I wouldn't say the people attending to our table were friendly but they were fairly responsive. With all this said, I scruntinize value pretty heavily when I review food joints and I had to dock a lot of points due to the price point. From what I understand, 02 used to be a fair bit cheaper, but it seems like they've raised their prices during corona and these inflationary times. Which I understand. After tax and tip, I paid close to $50 ($49.58 to be exact). I think I would probably rate 02 more favorably if I came for lunch on a weekday, which can be as cheap as $22 / person from what I see on their website. But I have to judge based on my own experience, and I thought it was very expensive. read more
