Mizuna offers upscale fare to enjoy in an intimate venue in downtown Spokane. Upon the suggestion of many friends, we ventured over to Mizuna for a nice meal and were satisfied with the result. We had an opportunity to try a variety of items including the complimentary bread, ginger jalapeno crab cakes, smoked trout bruschetta, grilled New York strip, and pear bread pudding with chocolate ice cream. All of the items above were tasty but the one that stood above the rest was the smoked trout bruschetta. From its sophisticated plating to the balanced flavors to the variety of textures, it is a must have. Our next favorite was the crab cake. Savory, crunchy, incredible sauce, and ultra cravable. The rest of the items we had were also good but these two are the ones we would return for time and time again. Service was good, pricing was what I'd expect at a nicer restaurant. Overall, a fun evening in a relaxing environment. We're looking forward to trying more items on the menu during our next visit... and having more of that smoked trout bruschetta. read more

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Spokane! The food here is incredibly delicious without being overpriced. Every single thing on their menu is worth trying, but some of our favorites lately are the pork tenderloin, arancini, lettuce wraps, and bread pudding. All their cocktails are awesome; you really can't go wrong. The service is always top notch, and we love how it's a quieter crowd than some other spots downtown. The menu was very different than the posts and reviews on yelp, so I heard the menu changes very frequently. I did go out of my way to come here because of the jalapeño crab cake appetizer. It was okay, not very good. I didn't eat all of it and it was the only thing I got because nothing else at the time interested me. The mustard sauce that came with it was very overwhelming for the crab cake. The waiters/ waitresses and atmosphere were nice. I don't need to come here for the crab cakes again. Had 7:15 reservations for 9 people. Got seated right away and the restaurant was half full. The biggest issue here was wait time for food. We ordered drinks and got them at a reasonable time, but didn't get bread until another half hour. Took awhile to order food and when we got the food, some of the food was inedible because it was so salty. We had everyone taste them and even the ones who normally eat salty couldn't eat it. We sent one back and got a replacement and the other we just took off the order. Other dishes were good - the salmon with wasabi aioli was moist and flavorful as were the scallops and pork tenderloins. The seafood bouillabaisse was good - not too tomato-ey and the seafood wasn't overcooked. They had a big party in the back and perhaps that contributed to the kitchen and service delays, but either they shouldn't accept more guests when they know they'll be short-staffed, or let guests know upfront that there will be delays. read more

It's been a few years and I was interested to see how Mizuna has fared with everything that has happened over the last few years.. It doesn't seem like Mizuna has skipped a beat! Service for our group was fantastic. We were promptly seated and were well taken care of. Atmosphere, appetizers, food, etc was amazing. Just like how I remembered. Had a delicious meal before attending a show on Sunday at 5 pm. The unique advantage of Mizuna is the separate vegetarian menu. There is also a non vegetarian menu. We did not have a reservation but this might be a good idea. We ordered wine by the glass plus dinner. Our server was prompt and courteous. We enjoyed a lovely glass of wine and great meal. I had the vegetarian apple and cheese salad and my friends had the ahi tuna salad and crab cakes! It was a delightful meal and I highly recommend this gem! read more

During my stay in Spokane I was recommended to try this place by a gluten free friend of mine. Being Celiac I was pretty sure I was going to starve to death in a remote area like Spokane, but luckily she assured me that there are great places like Mizuna that would be sure to deliver the highest of gf standards. As soon as I stepped into the restaurant I felt the warmth of an intimate and well developed atmosphere. The brick walls with the twinkle and candle light creates a rustic romantic environment perfect for date night. As promised, most of the menu is either already gluten free or can be made gf. They brought out gf bread toast points for me to enjoy while I paroozed the menu. There were so many choices it was difficult to select what I most wanted to try. I ended up ordering the roasted beet salad and enjoyed the refreshing greens and candied walnuts accented with creamy chevre. Their soup of the day was also gf and hit the spot on that cold winter night. I can also never turn down scallops and ordered this entree, which was accompanied by a herb risotto. The scallops were perfectly cooked and I loved the sauce but was not super crazy about the risotto. Overall it was an excellent meal, great service, and a quiet intimate atmosphere that was perfect for enjoying a dinner alone with a glass of wine. Will definitely be looking into stopping here again next time our travel takes us through Spokane. read more

This was my first visit, I was accompanied by my uncle who was visiting from Seattle. The food was quite good however our server was very unsatisfactory for what I would expect at this type of establishment. His approach seemed disinterested, he never checked on us at any point during the meal, brought the bread to the table halfway through the salad course, and literally chucked our dessert menus towards us on to the table as if he were dealing playing cards at a poker game. My uncle was paying and for that the server is lucky. He would have not received a tip from me with this sort of service. What a shame. I believe that because we did not order wine or alcoholic drinks, we were not worth his time because the tip would not be as large for our ticket. I've been here for date night and for several times for a work event/large group and every time has been amazing from the staff's wine recommendations to the delicious entrees. Came here for my birthday and immediately encountered a waitress who seemed to hate my guts for no obvious reason. Really not a great start. Drinks were nice and well made. Most of the food was very good except for my main course which had enough salt in it to raise your blood pressure to the moon. I told my waitress but she didn't care. Honestly I wouldn't come back. 5 star persona and decor with 1 star service and 3 star food. Damn shame. read more

Had a great meal tonight (unfortunately I didn't get any pictures). Some coworkers from Renton were in town for the long weekend, taking in our area's sights, and we met up for dinner tonight. They're vegetarian and the rest of us are not. I wanted to find a restaurant we would all enjoy. After reading reviews, I chose Mizuna. It checked all of the boxes. One coworker ordered the Grilled Pork Tenderloin. He was skeptical, not of the pork but of the butternut squash purée and Brussels sprouts (both of which he's not typically a fan). He said the whole dish was delicious and he surprisingly really liked the purée and the Brussels sprouts. Another ordered the New York strip with Gorgonzola-mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and mushroom-Marsala sauce. The steak was tender and cooked very well. I had the Seared Sea Scallops with herb risotto, grilled asparagus, and a pistachio-fig chutney. Let me say, the scallops were cooked to melt in your mouth perfection! No grit, not spongy, just perfect! My other coworkers went with the vegetarian special, which was Eggplant Parmesan. They said it was good, but thought it needed a little more seasoning. My fiancee and I stopped by Spokane for a few days and were craving something "healthy-ish", yet still a nice a sit down spot. We gave Mizuna a go and I'm glad we did! We ordered a bottle (yes, bottle, YOLO!) of white wine, two appetizers, split a main, and ended with a dessert. It was the perfect amount of food for two very hungry tourists. SPINACH ARANCINI 5/5: You cannot pass on this dish! Think of it as a... fried meatless meatball? It's a MUST! CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAPS 3/5: Just okay. The flavor wasn't wow- it's similar to a Thai lettuce wrap that I make at home. It was very light, and if you prefer milder foods, you'd like it. HALIBUT MAIN 5/5: OMFG. IT WAS SO GOOD. Buttery, with just the right amount of "crust". The waitress had the kitchen evenly split the halibut on two plates so we didn't have to fight over who gets the larger piece :). If you like white fish, get the halibut! KEY LIME PIE 5/5: I didn't even know I liked key lime pie until I took a bite of this one. It was delicious and the perfect end to a summer date night. We went to Mizuna for Valentine's day and I had to give it 4/5 overall. The atmosphere: I was coming in with the idea that this place would be rather romantic, maybe semi dark lighting, and maybe filled with hidden nooks. When we walked in I felt a bit awkward because it seems i caught a lot of peoples eye. I assume that's because we had to walk past and through a lot of people eating dinner so that can be a bit distracting. We were sat in a side room but the sectioned out layout was less "hidden nook" and more, let's put you in this awkward table that will make you feel slightly on display. Our seats were decent but there were many seats that looked less comfortable. I will say that the ramp to go from one room to another was great for accessibility reasons however the length of the ramp created an illusion that could make someone trip if they weren't looking at it since it's a bit long. for all of these reasons i took off one star, now let's get into what i did like! *added* i forgot that another reason i took off a star was because the host referred to us as "ladies" which makes a statement about the inclusivity & assuming gender. Customer service: our waitress was super accommodating and kind. she checked on us a healthy amount and we never were waiting for her too long, even on a night like vday. she knew the bar menu well and it made the experience great from the moment we sat in our seats. Food/Drink: the food was very very good! i got the chicken and my partner got the seafood pasta, we both were so happy with our meals. the drinks were great too, but be careful, they were STRONG. (however, i did to dry January so maybe i'm just a light weight) Anywhoo, i took pictures of the menu because i noticed there aren't any recent pictures of the update prices since the rise of inflation so hope it helps someone pick a place for dinner. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. A lot of vegan places I have gone in the past just replace the meat with vegan meat and call it good without also trying to perfect the dish itself. Mizunas has a lot of dishes that are really good that also just so happen to be vegan. The vegan Cuban (ok their lunch menu) was especially good with caramelized onions, butter toasted bread, sharp mustard, and more. Meat/Cheese Platter was amazing with my favorite cheese; Manchego, Cambozola, and Humbolt Fog with fig and crackers. New York Strip was cooked perfectly and so tasty and tender. The gorgonzola potatoes and asparagus complemented the steak well. Rack of Lamb was cooked perfectly and tasty/tender as well. The orzo and asparagus were delicious as well. So I made a reservation for 2. I ordered a cup of pork stew and the ahi tuna salad with miso dressing. My friend ordered the seafood green curry. Everything was fabulous especially the salad with big chunks of seared black sesame crusted ahi tuna and the dressing. The slightly sweet miso dressing and the toasty black sesame were great combination. It was a big salad but I finished all. I'm on low carb diet which I highly recommend to anyone who loves seafood. We immediately fell for this restaurant the first time we showed up when the server came out with a vegetarian menu! Oh joy to the world - our choices were respected and honored. The dishes are always exceptional: thoughtful, imaginative, tasty, interesting, and really delicious. Mains are generously portioned. The staff are kind, engaged, happy. The wine list offers a nice choice and the server was not only informative but without hesitation offered tastings. We stopped by Spokane for Friday dinner before heading to Couer d'Alene. Making reservations online with Mizuna was a simple task. Due to our current COVID-19 state our party of six had to separate in two tables though the two tables were adjacent to each other albeit 6-feet apart. Our waiter gave us the run down on their evening's special and answered whatever questions we had. We were quite surprised at the variety of vegan/vegetarian options they had. There was no rush at all to get our orders or drinks in. We opted for their ribeye, clams, and vegan meatloaf. The clams with chorizo was amazing. Extremely flavorful so order up on extra bread! The steak was cooked to my desired medium rare doneness. I can't comment on the meatloaf as my girlfriend ordered it though she did mention her dish was interesting based on their usage of quinoa in the loaf. Being primarily plant based it's hard to find a restaurant in spokane that offers many options. Not only does Mizuna offer options for us, but if we bring friends that don't share our dietary restrictions- they have tons of options as well. The Japanese eggplant ratatouille with polenta was delicious and so was the seafood bouillabaisse which had a dozen clams, and shrimp and scallops. Only tried the Archery Summit Pinot Noir and Double Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon because they are sister wineries of CA's Chamisal. Probably needed time to decant the wine.
