Short Story - DRUNK MECHANIC, SMOKING IN MY CAR, RUNNING MY ENGINE FOR A/C, CAUSED FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY CAR. Long Story - We have been visiting Mr. In Ju at MJ Japanese Auto Care for about a year for various reasons. Our initial impression of Mr. Ju was good. He was fair and reasonably priced. So when my window motor broke on my car, I did not hesitate to bring my car in to see Mr. Ju. I called him the day before I brought it in to confirm that he could repair my window motor, and he said, "of course", so I brought the car in the next day. I drove up to the shop at 10:30am, and I noticed Mr. Ju walking across his shop with an open can of Bud Light in his hand. He saw me coming in, and quickly put the can of beer down on a bench top, out of my view. I thought it was strange that he was drinking a beer, especially while working, but we hadn't had a bad experience with him previously, so I speculatively approached him. He asked what was wrong with my car, and I said that it was the window motor, and said that I had called. He did not remember that I had called the day before. I showed him the issue with the window, and left my car with him, knowing that he had been providing ok service so far. But I was still hesitant. He called me around 1:00pm and said that the car was finished. We arrived to pick up the car at 5:00pm (right before closing), and I saw Mr. Ju sitting inside of my car with the motor running, SMOKING A CIGARETTE! He saw me, and quickly got up, and said, "your car is ready! You're the last customer today." When I approached him, I could smell the alcohol on his breath! I quickly paid and signed the paperwork and left, and thought to myself 'as long as the window is working, I'll just forget about it'. However, I was annoyed by this point. As I drove away, I noticed that Mr. Ju had been sitting in my car with the A/C running full blast, and my car smelled like smoke! I had dropped off the car with a little less than a 1/4 tank of gas, however, it was not empty. As I drove away, my gas light turned on, so I immediately took the car to the gas station. Mind you, there was NO REASON for him to have my engine running. I came in with a broken window motor, not an engine related problem! So my only speculation is that he turned on my car to benefit from the A/C throughout the day, as it was quite warm. I pulled up to the gas station pump and attempted to open my door, and it wasn't working! I tried the unlock button and tried the handle and my door remained closed! I started to stress out, because I was at a gas station and people were waiting behind me. I ended up getting out of my car through the passenger side! I quickly filled up the gas, and tested my exterior door handle, and the door was able to be opened from the outside. I was quite angry by this point, because nothing was wrong with my door locks/handle when I dropped off my car earlier in the day. I called Mr. Ju the next morning, and told him about the door handle being broken on my car after he fixed the window, and he said that I could bring it back in, and he would fix it. I dropped my car off with Mr. Ju the next morning, and I'm extremely upset as this was a simple window motor fix, and now I'm having to take time off work a second day to have a repair done that was broken by the mechanic, in addition to the other reasons I was angry! I came up to him, and gave him the keys to my car and he said he would fix it. He called me up a few hours later, and said that the door lock and handle were repaired. When we got there, we asked what happened. He stated that he didn't repair my window motor. He blamed his assistant, saying that he had made the mistake, and did not connect the wires properly. He said that he did the repairs on my door handle himself. I checked the door handle and it worked, however, I noticed the panel on my door had been broken! I quickly came back to Mr. Ju, and he immediately denied that he broke it. I did not bring him the car with that door panel damaged, he angrily stated, "I know my job!". However, there was no one else that was doing work on that particular part of my car, other than him and his assistant. He stated that he would order me a new one fix it on a later date, even though he repeatedly claimed that he did not damage the panel. I stated that it would be ANOTHER DAY I'm taking away from work to bring him my car for repairs that he broke, and he said, "it's only one day"! I was livid by this point. I quickly took the keys, and left. He called my cell phone a few hours later, and I was so angry I couldn't talk to him, so my BF answered the phone for me, and he put Mr. Ju on speaker phone. Mr. Ju stated that he was angry at me because "I looked at him like he was a piece of $**t", but he said he ordered the part, and would fix it anyways. I REFUSE to bring my car back to him! I'd rather pay someone else to fix the door panel, than have him touch my car again! read more

Had to wait a while to write this review as my language immediately afterward would have kept the review from posting. Was having an engine problem running rough on my 1994 Nissan. Went down to Bouquet Auto Parts and got 4 new plugs thinking it might have been simply that. Still runing rough after, took it in to Ing the next morning. He called that afternoon and said was all fixed. When I went to pick it up he told me it needed new plugs as the old ones were worn and fouled. When I showed him the receipt showing the plugs were less than 24 hours old he screamed at me to get out of his shop and take the car. Wanted to charge $198 to replace 18 hour old plugs. Been a rough time for my car these past few months and this was the easiest fix I've had yet! I was calling around the valley for quotes on my check engine light's code issue: the fuel rail pressure sensor. Never heard of it? Same here. But apparently it's important! Though the man here could not give me a quote over the phone, because I guess the codes aren't always right and you've got to look at the car itself to see what's really wrong, he was very friendly, immediately offering to drop me off at my job and look at my car. I came in even though I didn't really know how much it would be just because he was so friendly! He greeted me as I pulled up and explained exactly what the fuel rail pressure sensor does and how it works with the rest of my car and what else could be causing it. I left it there as he promised to call me once he had looked it over and knew exactly what was wrong. Not even an hour later he calls me and tells me that it is the sensor and luckily the dealership has the part so he can fix it right away and gave me a quote that was so much cheaper than what other mechanics had given me! I said to go for it and maybe an hour after that he calls me again to say it's ready! Again when I get there he goes over in more detail, pointing to the actual parts in my car how it all worked, giving me some preventative measures for the future, what to look for in my car if it starts to malfunction again, and where I can find more information. We were on our way to Sequoia national park, 2 hrs into our 6 hour driving on a 100F day... the car AC died on us. Pretty scary considering temp was going to stay 100F+ where we are headed for the rest of the week and I have non-refundable hotel reservations. We frantically started looking for auto repair shops that can take us in that afternoon, most were too busy and would have wait till the next day! Luckily we found MJ ... we drove right over and the owner couldn't be nicer. I explained our situation, he took some time testing the car and diagnosing the problem. Within 20 mins, told us that we over-worked the AC temporarily and we can continue our road trip, no up-sell and also didn't take a dime. MJ didn't take advantage of the situation because we were in a rush/desperate, only re-assurance that comes from years of experience. MJ also told us another car had a similar issue with their AC a few days ago in this heat wave... didn't make us feel bad/stupid at all. I was having trouble getting my truck smogged. I thought I'd give this place a shot given all the great reviews. It was a mistake I won't make again. - I was quoted $80 for the diagnosis. He charged me $120, because he claimed he performed some additional work - work that I neither requested nor approved. - After determining the issue, he quoted me $573 to have him perform the repair. Luckily, I had already done some shopping and knew I could have it done for much less elsewhere. Ultimately, another mechanic charged me just $185. - When I told him I'd be taking my truck elsewhere for the repairs, he threatened to charge me storage fees if I didn't pick my truck up the very next day. Unfortunately, MJ Japanese is just like any other shop. If you don't have your guard up, you'll be screwed royally. read more

It's raining and I just left LA to drive to SF. Another driver points under my car to tell me somethings awry. As I pull to the shoulder and am down on the wet ground, I'm realizing few things would suck harder than to have your head squashed like a kumquat while looking under your car-all it would take is for someone looking at a text or something to hit my car. So, I pull to the closest exit and my instinct tells me to stay away from a gas station and I find MJ Japanese Auto Care. No matter that I drive a VW, no matter that the owner is Korean. They 'tie up' the plastic under belly, quickety quack and when I ask 'What do I owe?' He says 'don't worry about it, drive safe' Seriously, dude could've charged me Anything-what the f*ck could I have done?! Took my RAV4 today for some grinding noise under the car when applying the breaks. I met with Mr. Hi and told him of the problem. He took the car right away for a test drive and he called me within reasonable to tell me that he did a complete haul of the tires to check on the breaks and the wheel bearing and found all to be in good order. He explained to me in detail and told me to take the car back in to him if I continue to hear the noise and he and I will drive the car. He had my car for at least 2 hours and he didn't even charge me! Great service and honest feedback! Will definitely bring the car back for any type of service required! So, came back to get my brakes checked this past Friday and met with Mr. In! Man, this guy is legit! He's honest and very nice. What can I say, other than probably the most honest and capable mechanics around. I met the owners, In and Gene, because someone else installed a reverse polarity battery in my car, which blew the electronics and prevented the car from starting. In and Gene took my car right away (towed in), quickly found the main fuse had blown, fixed the problem, and had my car back to me the same day. They could have been dishonest and charged me a fortune, but instead, acted with highest level of integrity and got me out the door for the cost of the fuse and an hour of labor. I needed the car, so I took it with the radio and dome lights still not working because of a short circuit that was caused by the battery issue. I brought it back the next day, and despite having spent at least two hours tracking down and repairing the short, In refused to take a penny for his work. I have a Toyota Highlander, I had issue with grinding noise under the hood. Mr. In owner/mechanic told me it's an Axle. We replaced the Axle with an after Market, total parts and service was $550.00. The issue still remain after the parts was replaced, to make matter worst - the owner/mechanic left the right speed sensor loose thus made the VSC, Track off, and ABS light came on the dashboard. Brought my car to Frontier Toyota, found out the grinding noise was from a worn out wheel bearing. Incompetent diagnosis my Mr. In. It turned out he replaced an original toyota Axle that was not broken..Of course, the owner/mechanic will not admit that the axle was still good..Learned my lesson the hard way from this shop. Never will I have my car get a service by Mr. In. I will not recommend this shop to anyone.. read more

Highly recommended!!! Very honest man!!! Brought my Porsche Cayenne as I noticed some green fluid under it one morning. I was ready to hear the news about a broken radiator or hose or combination of both. I was asked to leave the car for observation but after an hour he can't find anything wrong with it. He suggested that I leave it overnight so he could run it and check for other things. I came back the following morning and I was told that nothing was wrong with it and everything was checking out fine. Just had to pay the modest amount I agreed for the evaluation. I went here because I thought some thing very bad had happened to my Hyndai van. He could have charged me a fortune, but told me it was a simple fix. Ended up costing me $170, which was a pleasant surprise. And he was done right on time. I went back the ore day bc my engine light came on. He hooked up his tool and said it was nothing major and to come back at my leisure to get the repair. Didn't charge me anything. Driving through Castaic in our Mitsubishi Expo, on our way home to Seattle, on a long long uphill portion of the freeway we experienced our car decelerate and begin to putter. We promptly pulled off the road and called AAA for assistance. The tow truck came very quickly and brought us to Valencia to have our car looked at by the local AAA certified auto shop. The man towing us warned of extremely long wait times due to the number of vehicles they typically receive in this area. When we arrived at the auto shop the man at the front desk was extremely unhelpful and quite frankly, rude. We were in a rush to get back to Washington in time to start our spring quarter at Western Washington University. So we left the office in hopes of finding someone that was understanding of our circumstances. As we walked down the row of busy auto shops we began to get more and more worried. Finally we arrived at MJ Japanese Auto Repair. The owner of the shop, In, courteously met us at the front of the shop and asked us if we needed assistance. We told him about what happened and he said "bring the car over and we'll take a look!". A sigh of relief came from both of us. The mechanic (Gene, who happened to be a Mitsubishi expert) identified the problem immediately and explained to us the situation and time frame we were looking at. A little bit frustrated by the delay we faced, we started to look for a hotel room to post up in while the car was being worked on. Not only did Gene and In help us find an affordable hotel, Gene drove us there to save us the cost of an expensive taxi! That is above and beyond exceptional service. They told us that it could take up to 3 days to finish the car, so we tried to get comfortable. Low and behold it took them just a little over a day to finish the car! We wish there was more we could do than just write them a yelp review and give them 5 stars. They took the time out of their busy schedule to get our car fixed and back on the road as fast as possible, they explained the problem in a way that was understandable to the average driver, and they helped us feel safe and reliable back on the road! First time getting my car serviced here and I'm really impressed by the level of service and expertise!!! I have gone to different mechanics to diagnose why my check engine light is on and the low idling on my Subaru. I had a tune up done, fuel injection cleaned and a coil replaced but the problem keeps coming up. Mr. Ju took his time and found out that the wiring on my car was chewed up by rodents. 3 mechanics before him couldn't tell me that because they didn't take the time to look and blames it on other components of the car. He was detailed and explained what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. I was expecting to leave my car there the whole day but he ended up finishing my car within a few hours.
