Came to this restaurant with a friend on our way to Ithaca. Walking in the aesthetics are delightful/very cozy with a great view of the river. They have plenty of outdoor seating but it was raining so we decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender Karissa was very attentive as she came over the second we sat down. We both ordered one of the fall specialty drinks made with cider and Prosecco and they were delicious and extremely festive. I ended up ordering the lettuce cups and they were more filling than you'd think. The tzatziki sauce that came with it tasted homemade. My friend ordered the cheesesteak that looked incredible. We both got fall themed lattes to go before we paid and they were perfect for a chilly fall day. Stopped by for a drink and a snack after a long day with my granddaughter. Our hotel is right down the road, so very convenient. They have a few specialty drinks tea time and an old fashion, so we decided to get them and an order of MJ Fries. The fries were so good, the feta was a nice touch. Waitress only came once to refill water and not to check in or give any heads up that food would take that long to come out. We came to MJ's for a lunch without toddlers (thank you grandparents!). The patio out back was serene and perfect. The chopped salad was excellent and so fresh. Many homemade dressings that were tasty. I had a strawberry margarita type drink with black peppercorn, which I really enjoyed. Her walnut allergy can kill her and it only takes a small little piece. Besides this one critical issue: -ambiance is nice, the dining area is very clean and well decorated - it was a super sweet touch that they gave mom's carnations on Mother's Day - the view over the river is gorgeous -the food was very tasty, and the heavenly hash is fantastic! - I got the special, a stuffed French toast croissant. We called to make reservations for dinner following Binghamton U graduation (Mothers Day!) only a few days before with low hopes of scoring a table for 6. They had nothing early but offered to squeeze us in at 7:30. Since closing time is 8 PM on Sundays, i was leery; there's nothing worse than being rushed to finish a meal, but we took it. Got there 15 mins early and the place was hopping. Our table wasn't ready but they offered us seats at the bar and another patron kindly moved down so we could sit together. Within minutes, we had a table and a fine meal followed quickly. We never felt at all rushed by our waitress, and we were just about the last party to leave. Absolutely delicious food... can't rave enough about the steak filet, firecracker fries, MJ fries, Greek salad, house made guac... ohhhhh and the sangria... this place is a GEM!! So good that my husband and I went back a second time in the same weekend while visiting the area. He absolutely loves his steak, and to my surprise - he said this was one of the best filets he's ever had . Great service, too. Have to admit, when we initially pulled into the parking lot, we saw and expected a little hole in the wall from the front. The sun was just going down and it was not well lit. Everyone has mentioned this restaurant since we moved to the area, and today while in town purchasing a few gifts it was our chance to strike. We shared the Jalapeño cheese fritters which were golden and delicate with intense flavors and delicious dipping sauce, the house made Queso (best we have had- ever!) the guacamole, and the Cuban sandwich made panini style which was toasty, cheesy and wonderful. We also had the balcony buzz cocktail which was gin based with honey and cucumber, a sweet drink for an early summer day. Super pumped we stumbled upon this place, loved everything about it. We were driving from Buffalo to Endicott and decided to stop in Owego to break up the trip and do a little walking around. After doing a quick search on Yelp for a place to grab a drink, MJs popped up with stellar reviews and after checking out some of the photos online we decided to give it a shot. The location is a bit away from the little village area right on the river and it looks like a small house from the outside with ample parking. First things first, the front door of this place is the coolest, was loving this joint before even stepping foot in the door. Upon walking in we immediately felt this cozy vibe and could not stop looking around at the unbelievable woodwork. We were greeted by a hostess immediately, took a seat at the bar but not before passing a fireplace and walking past the bar tables and see through kitchen in awe of the design. Pallet wood everywhere, custom made everything, it was like an episode of Fixer Upper restaurant style and we couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful this place was; the light fixtures were so cool. You'll see when you go. The place was bright with tons of windows and a huge garage door in the back, which we were told opens during warm weather allowing access to their back deck with heat lamps, outdoor seating, couches and a great view of the river. It was impossible not to start dreaming about sitting outside on this deck with a glass of Rose in hand. The second we sat down at the bar the hostess came over with food and drinks menus, which were on wood pallets as well. The menu was perfection, right up my alley in every way. Having dietary restrictions can be a huge pain when you're dining out and we go out ALL the time. I feel like a pain in the butt having to ask our server or bartender about gluten free menu items and whether or not they can accommodate my unfortunate restrictions. However, no questions had to be asked here because the menu did all the work for me. Every menu item that was able to be made gluten free was already marked as such AND they had SO many gluten free items and healthy items! The best part is you can come here and eat healthy or you can come here and be hooked up with comfort food, they have something for every kind of eater and that is a rarity. Their wine list was just OK, however they had a great Rose and a sparkling brut from Glenora vineyards that was delicious. Chardonnay on tap along with a nice variety of beers. We dabbled in a few things off their menu, started with edamame, which had soy and peanut sauce. I whispered to my boyfriend that these looked messy and before I could even look up, the woman behind the bar, also the owner put down some napkins and said, "These can be messy!" She was great company and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The edamame were piping hot and tasty. Next we went with chicken tacos, they came with two and were made on homemade tortillas. We were given hot sauce on the side with the tacos without even having to ask and the hot sauce was different than others I've had, very smoky and a perfect addition to the taco. The tortillas were thick, we LOVED them. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh, the goat cheese on top, YUM. Didn't try the fries but did try MJ's secret sauce on the side. Not sure what it was but it was D-freaking-LICIOUS. Some sort of tangy honey mustard-ish type sauce, could have been thrown on the tacos too. We stayed here for about 2 hours, maybe more, just hanging out and it was the perfect way to wind down our weekend. Their brunch menu looked fantastic and I was drooling just thinking about their Bloody Mary. We cannot wait to come back here for brunch and when the weather is nice, that deck has our names written all over it. read more

We had a 6 people party on a Monday night, place wasn't that busy but they didn't have a table for all of us to sit together so we had to wait for almost 40 minutes, wish they offered us some other options like split tables or combine some other tables, just be creative! We also waited for 20 minutes or so for our food, again it wasn't even that busy, I was so starved that I forgot to take pictures of my food when they finally arrived which is very rare since I always take pictures before I take a bite (for the Yelp review of course)! Now onto the food - I ordered salmon with rice, and it came with edamame as a side. Salmon was sauced with lemon butter, tasty but I thought it was overcooked, edamame was seasoned with soy sauce, it was a weird combination because I usually associate soy sauce with Asian cuisine, and I'm not aware of any Asian dishes with lemon butter flavor. Secondly you take that and combine with a side dish seasoned with soy sauce, it was just odd to me. I suppose you can call it some type of fusion dish.. The warm cookie with ice cream for dessert was pretty good, it was big enough to be shared by 6 people! Just couple bites from each person finishes it off pretty quickly. Yesterday, 10/3/21, I took 12 family members to brunch at MJ's. They set us up at a high table out of the traffic pattern, and brought us mostly excellent drinks. The Mimosas were passable. The bloody Marys were short of spicy bite and tasted watered down. They weren't watered down, however. I observed the bartender pouring the Tito's. It was probably the lack-luster tomato juice mixer that was the cock-up. The cider drinks, and various coffee drinks were reported by their drinkers to be excellent. The food orders were all outstanding, though too numerous to mention individually. The family all raved about the dishes they had. None of them would have hesitated to complain if they'd been dissatisfied. MJ's diverse brunch menu is a foody's delight. Vastly different and more exciting than the average breakfast menu, there's something for every palette that you may have never seen in our area. The bar staff were rushed and working very hard to serve a practically full house. Our waitstaff was incredible despite the crowded mileu and the size of our party. The inside of the restaurant is very welcoming with a great bar area and view of the Susquehanna from the back windows. The menu provides a variety of international dishes from Greek, Vietnamese, Mexican and of course American. The Saganaki was to die for with toasted pita bread. MJ's was simply amazing. It's someone's house that was converted into a restaurant. My friends and I came here for brunch and we left with the itis. (Black friends translate) The location was beautiful as well. The restaurant overlooks a huge river giving a great view as you eat on their deck. You can also eat inside but that's boring I do that everyday. I had the biscuits and gravy a long with their brunch sandwich. It's breakfast so that's not really hard to mess up. What sold it for me was the service we received whilst dining. Our waitress came over every couple of minutes asking if we needed anything and I really appreciated it. Being from the DC area it's always hit or miss so I appreciated the change up. When I'm back in the area this place definitely on my list to revisit. read more

We spent a weekend in Owego recently and stopped in here a couple times, and every visit was complete hit! Never a miss on the food, from brunch to the flip flop burger to the skillet cookie! Seriously this place is full of artists, the food had amazing flavor and the drinks were all amazing - I know it's chilly out but the Banana-Rama was delicious especially if you like banana! The inside is lovely, the fireplace was toasty and the tables are all so beautiful! Housed in what used to be a doctor's surgery and over-looking the Susquehanna, MJ's is a modern, comfortable bar/restaurant. It succeeds as both, with a good selection of drinks and an extensive, but not busy menu. We ordered drinks; Coors Light for me, a cocktail called The Swirl for my wife and then decided to order 5 of the small plate options to share rather than ordering two mains. I can't remember the names but I can heartily recommend the fries with feta, the mushroom with the dip in the centre, the shrimp ceviche, pitta with hummus and steak sope. Another drink was ordered, sangria this time, which was served in a glass big enough for two. And then finally pudding. We shared a chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice-cream and caramel sauce and ended the evening feeling full and contented. It's a shame it was raining as an evening on the spacious deck watching the river go by would've been perfect. I think we've found our new go-to restaurant and it's only 15 minutes from home. This is a small non assuming little building on a busy road. Don't let the appearance stop you from coming in to eat. The drinks menu changes often and the FOOD!!!!
