This is a great local donut shop! If you want a better pick of donuts, I suggest arriving bright and early. When I arrived at 8:30 AM on a rainy morning, there were only a 1-2 donuts of each variety to choose. They were busy baking new ones, but it seemed like they were getting sold as fast as they were getting made. I knew I wanted authentic donuts... the reviews were great for this location, so I got up at 7am and came to see what it was all about. They were unfortunately already out of the cinnamon rolls.. Stopped in on my way to work to grab a few assorted donuts to share with my co-workers. These donuts were hot, fresh and delicious. When I arrived to work everyone grabbed a donut and coffee and headed to our morning meeting. All I heard was hmmmmm delicious... These donuts were definitely worth $8.00 for a dozen. This is an old school, mom and pop location. Daylight Donuts is a national chain with around 1,000 locations. I've been to some that are modern and new, and this one in Statesville has more of an independent vibe like they've been there since the 70's with very few changes. But it's the donuts that matter and they continue to make a great donut following the recipe of Tommy and Lucille Day's light batter recipe. The glazed old fashioned was excellent, and I really liked their baked cinnamon roll, which is also offered fried. There weren't too many donuts in the case, but from what I ordered, they were all fresh and delicious. The selection was limited, not because they have a limited selection, but because they were busy. But I was still able to get a decent variety. The donuts were excellent. This place is the epitome of a Mom and Pop business. They do donuts and they do them extremely well. There was an impressive line in the morning, but it moved quickly. Many customers were clearly regulars. The donuts were fresh and light and tasty and everything you could ever want. I came in for a large coffee to go (who was I kidding?) and somehow I ended up with 2 blueberry and 2 old-fashioned cake donuts. They were amazing and far better than anything that Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts could ever produce. I hope Jan and Michael Stern of Road Food know about this place. Daylight Donuts is amazing! They make the donuts daily every morning and are only open until 11am. If they don't have the donut you want, they gladly will go in the kitchen and even make it on the spot!! They have a great variety that includes plain cake, glazed, chocolate frosted.. Both with and without sprinkles, eclairs, cinnamon and sugar as well as even sour cream! They only accept cash for payment, but for the homemade taste and quality, not to mention the huge size... That's fine with me! They also serve coffee, soda and milk. The walls take you back to the 1950s with vintage signs, photos and even the recipe since 1954! The owner herself is there daily! I love that they make Carolina Panther donuts with Blue and Black sprinkles, which my kids call "Batman", but if they don't have them, they go out whatever sprinkles on that the children pick! read more

I should not be writing this review because I have only tasted the maple donuts; but the others look good and co workers have said they are good but the maple ones call out to me. A dozen for 9.00 is a great deal and they freeze if you do not finish the dozen while driving. The donuts are great but you will have to put up with abuse from the female owner. If you don't order fast enough and if you call the donuts by the wrong name, she will insult you. She was waving her hand at me this morning while I was trying to pick out what I wanted and saying can we get on with your weird order... very bizarre. There was a lady behind me that met me outside and told me she couldn't believe it either. I've looked through other reviews and a lot of people have experienced the same thing with her. BE AWARE......Newly opened Daylight Donuts in Mooresville is night and day compared to the one in Statesville. The new Mooresville location is awful. The donuts are smaller and they don't taste like a daylight donut is supposed to taste. When I get my glazed or maple donuts in Statesville they come out hot and delicious. In Mooresville I received a maple donut with some type of maple syrup on top. Absolutely awful. Be advised spend 20 extra minutes going to Statesville and get your donuts there. The blow all the other (Krispy Kreme, Dunkin, ect... away and definitely this thing in Mooresville) These people just got they name right not the donut. Terrible this place is awful don't do it. They held a dozen for me as soon as they got them made, and waited on me to get there. These donuts are as good as they will ever be, and are just plain good.
