First time visiting!!! I e been wanting to come here since they opened, but since hubby doesn't eat seafood it took me this long to suggest it for a girls night out! I'm so thankful I thought of it last minute, after leaving the gym!! I called to see if they could accommodate two in an hour & a half. Todd politely answered the phone and said he could make that work. We arrived right at 6:30 and Todd, who also happened to be the host for the evening, gave us our choice of two tables. The atmosphere is busy, lots of people chatting, but you're still pretty much able to hold your own conversations. Jake was our delightful British (I think) waiter. He brought us our beverages and described what had to be 5-6 specials for the evening. Everything sounded delightful, but I've been wanting that fried flounder since day one! Jake even brought us a sample bowl of hush puppies with butter. YUMMM!!! The dinner came within 10-17 minutes, nice & hot! Everything was pretty tasty. My flounder was a little bland so I requested some salt & pepper to add more flavor. I got the chili sauce on the side because the fish is the star, not to be covered with Thai chili sauce. Todd was cleaning empty tables near us and stopped by to make sure we enjoyed our meal and would come back. We definitely will!!! Dressy casual, jeans are ok with a collared shirt. I did not see anyone in shorts and tee shirts. The food is very good, there are some minor tweaks, the sweet potato mash had too much lemon, it over powered the dish. We had a very nice waitress but we didn't get any water refills. The chairs aren't the most comfortable and the seating is a little tight, but the quality and selection of seafood is excellent if not the best in Greensboro. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. I wish I could give the restaurant 4.5 stars, truthfully it just slightly missed the mark of a perfect 5. read more

Dining in on a weekday, came late with my date. Staff greeted us right away when we walked in. We were seated outside in the patio because the inside dining was full. The patio area was lit with string lights. We tried the oyster and mussels for appetizers. The mussels was tasty and seasoned really well( spicy tomato sauce). The oyster rockerfeller was okay I wasnt fond of the parmesan and bacon toppings. For the main entrees I ordered the seafood mix boil. The seafood boil is steamed and comes with a side of butter sauce. It was good but a little over cooked.My date ordered the pan seared salmon with terriyaki glaze,he liked it. read more

It's hard to provide consistent excellent food and service in a neat cozy environment . Rollie provides well crafted cocktails that are imaginative and deliver great taste. What a hidden gem! It was my first time doing here and all I can say is I'll be back. Our server was friendly and provided the appropriate amount of attention to our table. It was such a wonderful surprise to learn Todd, one of our favorites from years ago owns this place. The table spacing, linens, etc were perfect. I've seen mixed reviews on this place but the menu intrigued me so I decided to give it a go. And boy am I glad I did! I haven't been able to find a stuffed trout like the one at Milners in Winston until now. And this one is just as good! We arrived right when they opened and we were sat promptly. It's a nice a nice surprise that they have specials posted to their chalkboard on the wall as well as the usual fare on the menu. Our waitress was a gem taking her time to answer our questions and bring us everything we needed. I truly enjoyed everything we ordered and the mussels is definitely one of the better mussel dishes I've ever had. I'll order this app each time I return. Im also a sucker for a seafood soup so their clam chowder was right up my alley. As I said, the stuffed trout was tasty and a huge piece of fish. The sweet potato and collard greens paired nicely. The food at Reel is consistently good and has been as long as they've been in business. Menu items change regularly. Service is good. The ambiance is casual, yet sophisticated. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. On our visit around ten days ago, I had the Trout Almandine, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Although we didn't have on our last visit, I highly recommend the coconut cream pie. It's fantastic. Their key lime is great as well. read more

This is an excellent restaurant for Fish. We were really hungry for some good fish and we found a great place. Small dining area and encourage reservations if going on a Thurs, Friday or Saturday. Relaxed casual is the attire mostly. Nice but not fancy. We received excellent service and recommendations for our meal. Servers as a whole were up beat, helpful and attentive. We had an incredible service and the food was absolutely amazing. This is definitely going to be where I pick for my birthday dinner. And I'm from the Gulf Coast so when I tell you, the fried oysters were good, they were so good. If you forced me to tell you something I didn't love, I think the sweet potatoes could be sweeter. Excellent hush puppies, raw bar, and the seafood bisque will live in my brain forever. I definitely want to come back and enjoy the patio when it's warmer because it looks lovely. The interior is nice and there's even fresh flowers at the tables. The winter Mojito was to die for. They even have the good ice, if you know, you know. I was craving some seafood and wanted to try something new. I came across this place and figured I would give it a try. Upon entering the place, it was PACKED!! In my mind, always a good sign. I was greeted by Steve and he told at the moment all they had was the low table bar seats. Since I really wanted to try it, I asked to be seated. To my surprise before I could order, Steve came back to me and said a table had opened up and asked I wanted to move. I gladly accepted. Then we were greeted by Mick and he took our order for drinks and appetizers. Once he returned with our drinks, he took our meal orders. For appetizers we tried the Crab Dip and Seared Ahi Tuna. For dinner I got the Rainbow Trout with Roasted Brussels Sprouts that had a Basalmic drizzle and a baked potato and for a drink, I did the Pomegranate Martini. The Rainbow Trout was stuffed with breaded crab. While the presentation was amazing, it was extremely salty and I just couldn't eat it. The baked potato and the roasted Brussels Sprouts were ON POINT!! The inside is really small and intimate but also makes for a little noisy of an atmosphere with all the conversations happening. They also have an outside patio area but it didn't appear to be open. I would give this place 8.5 out of 10! The service, drinks and sides were SOOO GOOD!! I was recently able to check another local legend off of my list of Greensboro greats. Reel has been in our sights for a little while now, and we finally made our way in there a month ago. Thanks to fellow Elites Devon E. and Steven E. for always indulging in a good foodie adventure. We just barely made it in time at 8pm on a Wednesday evening. They close at 9pm. Luckily, the dining room had mostly cleared out, so it was just us and a few other tables. To start we ordered some drinks and the smoked trout plate to share. For my drink I got the Cucumber Ricky, which was so light and refreshing with great cucumber and lime flavor. I really enjoyed all the different ways you could assemble the different components of the smoked trout plate to create a little crostini sandwich. We also split a Greek salad. The salad was nothing stellar, and I think we got jipped on the cucumber. For our main entrée we decided to go big and split the whole flounder! The flounder was incredible and we picked it all the way down to the bones on both sides. It was perfectly crispy, and the sweet Thai chili sauce complimented it so well. I rarely order a whole fish like that, so it was a fun experience to enjoy together! For our sides we ordered the collard greens, corn & black bean salad, and hush puppies. I wasn't particularly impressed by the corn and black bean salad because it didn't have much flavor. The collard greens and hush puppies were better but still not anything that knocked our socks off. I would definitely go back to try a few other things on their menu. It's nice to know that there's a place near me that sources their fish locally. When my next oyster craving hits, I'll definitely return. read more

After a few unsuccessful attempts to try this place. I made a reservation and I finally was able to make it to Reel Seafood. I'm a big fan of fresh seafood. I'd heard this place was good and the rumors were true. First we got cocktails. I got an old fashioned (which is my favorite anyway) and it was delicious, I ended up getting a second one. For all the food we basically shared every with our table, my wife and a close friend were with me. For appetizer we got the smoked trout, it was great. Was a big fan of the sauces and the pickled onions that came with it, matched the trout perfectly. For the entree we got a whole doormat flounder, and it was huge!!! It was also crispy served with a nice with the Thai chili sauce that paired well, my only regret was not asking for more Thai chili sauce for the back side of the flounder. This was a great dish. We ended up adding on two more sides onto the 2 that came with the flounder and we got hush puppies, collards, the corn and black bean salad, and the seasonal vegetable which was squash. The hushpuppies were great, but everything else seemed flat, boring and lacking seasoning. This was odd to me after everything else was so good. Either way I'll give a 5 and try different sides next time. Service was great and definitely going back, likely for that whole flounder, but next time I'll ask for more sauce. read more

Good natural flavor, not overly seasoned. Very attentive bar staff creates best drinks/cocktails in Greensboro. Widest most diverse fresh oyster selection as well. Location isn't the best. This restaurant would serve well as a stand alone building with a private parking lot. Don't close this location tho. LOL. I'd heard good things about this place but found it disappointing - perhaps my high expectations were my fault. The service was ok, the food looked good but perhaps there was more focus on presentation than taste. My blackened mahi mahi, for example, certainly looked blackened but didn't taste it at all. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic taste at all. My companion enjoyed the clams but considered them unremarkable. When Reel opened it was great, they really do get some great fresh options. The last time I went, yesterday, it was less than great meal. Atmosphere was fine, not busy on a Friday evening despite the online comments "reservations are a must" The wait staff were attentive and friendly. Seafood Chowder- it was very good, filled with protein of different fish and shellfish, there were a lot of peas in it, but could have just been the serving. The stock was a bit weird, very strong flavor and tasted like chicken stock. House croutons were great. Crispy outside, but still soft on the inside. Caesar salad was ok. Large chopped romaine, in-house dressing, croutons and shredded parmigiana. Dressing was not full of flavor but I used cracked black pepper and some lemon juice that lifted it up. After one special was no longer available, despite it being on the chalkboard as an option (just erase it) and one fish option for one person being a two pound fish option offered, I went with the diver scallops. These were really not great, manager said they were his favorite. Diver scallops in Meunière. I didn't think they would be swimming in meunière, it was almost soup. The scallops were seared on one side only and still raw. I did let the server know and there was no offer to remake or discount. read more

Excellent fish restaurant with exceptional service. Have been coming here for years, and the fish and seafood dishes are always prepared perfectly. My favorite is the Monkfish. It is so flavorful and decadent. Most dishes come with two side dishes to compliment the main entrée. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on the weekends. Service is exceptional! They have a full wine list, beer, as well as a full bar with specialty cocktails. Make sure you see what dishes that they have on special, as some are pretty spectacular. read more

Cozy atmosphere with great service and excellent Martinis.. but the food was even better.. the Ahi tuna salad was superb.

My wife wanted to go to Reel as we hadn't been there for a while and it was very good the first two times we went. It is not a chain with pictures on the menu, but has a real chef and very good fresh sea food offerings. We had made reservations and were seated promptly on the patio. They have a good wait staff who are conscientious and engaging. We got the crab dip appetizer and my wife got the sesame flounder and I got the grouper special. This is not an eat fast and rush out type place but more of a relax and enjoy the evening pace. Enjoy! read more

If you're lucky you'll sit in Jake's section at this top-notch seafood spot in Greensboro. We were looking for a low country seafood boil while visiting from New York. Todd took our rez was so friendly but Jake our server took hospitality to the next level. The delightful Brit had our family in stitches with his witty repertorie. "Here's some weapons to attack your foes" he quipped when putting down the utensils to crack our crab. Crab dip w pita, seared tuna , cocktail shrimp to start , grilled red drum fish and mango chutney the dishes were all fresh. Run here for the Hush Puppies.- crispy little balls of fried goodness!!!
