I'm honestly baffled at the quality of service we experienced here. From the second we walked in the door, our visit felt off. It was fairly busy and we were asked if we were interested in sitting at the bar, even though there were some tables available. We agreed thinking they would sit us at the front of the bar. That did not happen. They put us in the corner next to a stack of dirty dishes and around 15 used glasses. The bartender was clearly overburdened and the other servers continued to pile on. We ordered drinks and a few sushi rolls. The drinks came out pretty quickly, but that was about it. We were sitting in an awkward section of the bar and the bar tender kept awkwardly reaching over to place things instead of walking around the bar. After our food arrived, she reached over our food with a drink and spilled a drink in our freshly delivered tuna tower. She apologized but no offer to make a new one or comp the dish. I was shocked that there was no attempt to make this right. Ruining a $20 plate and nothing but an apology. We also didn't have chopsticks or silverware when our food was brought out (which took an hour). When our food finally did come, our server prioritized her repeat customers over us and brought them silverware WHEN THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE FOOD YET, meanwhile our food was sitting in front of us while she gave the last set to this other person and had to go find more. I felt bad tipping 15% here but a $140 bill for this experience was just crazy. I will gladly go back to Wabi Sabi, which is directly across the street. Ambiance was great. Dark inside and most customers were there for a work lunch. The food was the sad part. We ordered fried rice chicken (flavor was good but usually cooked with green peas which was missing), hot green tea (no problem here), miso soup (no problem here), pretty woman roll (decent but the best), chefs special smoked salmon (yummy), and salmon nigiri. Salmon nigiri - I had to ask them to remake it bc it had black specks on the fish. I'm unsure of what or why there were 1-2 black specks on it but a new one was given to me. The new one had a fish scale on it and this is the first time I've had fish scale served with my sushi. Not the best presentation or first impression so I won't return. Out of the five years I lived off Western Center exit, I never gave MK's Sushi a try. Yes, I passed it quite a few times but it is tucked behind Racetrac and Smoothie King in the strip mall so I never made the stop. Tonight we decided to double date with our neighbor as a family night! Their kiddos have never eaten sushi rolls, so why not? Parking is a bit limited, thankfully some vehicles had just pulled out so we had some spaces. Once we entered, we were seated immediately. My husband rated this a 3.5, mostly for the great service; however, he said his sesame chicken wasn't the best. He said it wasn't hot nor cold, and the flavor wasn't there for him. He still prefers Wabi Sabi across the street. That being said he didn't try ANY of the sushi which is the reason I rated much higher. I ordered the crunch roll, Heart Attack, and a California roll for my daughter and I to share. All of which were AMAZING, I stuffed myself which is bad I know. But I didn't want to stop eating! My daughter was obsessed with the California roll and we ended up ordering a plate to-go. The sushi line took the longest to receive, but everything else we ordered arrived quickly. Here is my advice: if you are looking for sushi, this is your place! If you're looking for orange chicken or sesame chicken, go to Wabi across the street or even Panda Express down Beach Street(if you're looking for cheap). I received a phone call from the restaurant wanting me to call to have them come back as they had picked up the wrong order. I'm pretty sure it is against all FDA guidelines that once a person takes the food you cannot give it back to another person! And to make me wait when it is a business lunch! WTH! Overall it was a good first experience. Went to MK's for dinner on a Thursday night and were seated immediately. The restaurant is pretty dim lit inside with the bar areas being more well lit. Our server was attentive but the waiter was overly "joking" that it was hard to know whether he was actually understanding our orders or not. They do not use disposable chopsticks, they have stainless steel chopsticks which was an interesting change from the norm at a sushi restaurant. We ordered the Heart Attack appetizer and it was okay. The filling to jalapeno ratio was underwhelming and one piece was so minimal on the filling that the heat from the jalapeño was a lot. We then ordered the Pacific and Jalapeño rolls. Both were excellent tasting but the Pacific roll was falling apart anytime we tried to pick up a piece. The Jalapeño roll was almost too big that you couldn't put a whole piece in your mouth at once so you had to take bites out of it which meant you couldn't enjoy all the filling flavors at once. The price ranges around 10 to 12 dollars but you get so much food that its definitely worth it! The spicy roll bento is indeed spicy but if you want a nice selection I'd go with the roll bento that has a fried roll, a cali roll and a spicy roll. All the bentos include edamame, miso soup, and a side salad. Trust me, you'll be so full! Dining in they have pretty amazing cocktails and the rolls are also yummy! First time trying this place, but I've heard good things about it a long time ago. It's definitely worth going. I went during happy hour 4:30-7. I walked in and saw someone getting shrimp tempura, but we got spicy fried calamari instead because we always get it at every place. It was perfectly crispy, with an airy crunch and the squid wasn't as chewy as other places. It also had delicious dipping sauces to go with it. The soft boiled egg actually arrives soft boiled and the (said) bok choy is tender crisp. The soft shell crab was nicely fried with an outer coating still crunchy. Nothing was over or undercooked. This can be extra challenging, considering my order was delivered and not eaten at the actual restaurant. Beware, the "spicy" option is exactly that! MK's does just that. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were warmly greeted and treated. I was driving so my hubby took advantage of that and downed some soju bombs...,and yes, he fell asleep as soon as we got home :-) I had the Femme Fatale martini which was perfect and only lightly sweet. I had dinner at MK's Sushi recently. It was fantastic in every way. If I could give 6 or 7 stars - I would. The place was fairly busy but I received a warm and friendly greeting from an elegant lady that may have been the manager or owner - not sure. She seated me immediately. Within moments a happy nice young waitress took my order and patiently answered some of my questions about sushi. I am allergic to all shellfish and avocados so I need to be careful. I ordered a sushi roll and the tempura vegetables. When that was complete, the bartender came by on my side of the bar and took my drink order for a dirty gin martini. He made it immediately and brought it to me. It was delicious, ice cold, and well blended with the right ratio of gin, olive juice, and dry vermouth. Most places have a hard time making a smooth martini. This one was excellent. My food arrived quickly. The sushi roll was fresh and delicious and the tempura was light and crispy while the veggies within were the perfect doneness - cooked but with a touch of firmness. They clearly stay on top of keeping fresh oil in the fryers. Cleanliness is important to me in a restaurant. This place was spotless, including the restrooms, the bar area, the table top - everything. At the end of my meal, the manager lady came by to ask me how everything was (it was great), and thanked me for coming in. Her sincerity and friendly attitude made me feel appreciated and welcomed. The bottom line is - if you are looking for a delicious meal in a setting with a wonderful, clean, and modern vibe, with prompt, excellent, friendly, service - this place is it. For those concerned with some of the other reviews and comments about service - I had checked on yelp before I went and, being the blunt person that I am, I asked the lady in charge about it. I ordered the Ahi Tower and I was surprised at the amount of food, the price and the presentation of this dish. What can I tell you I enjoyed every last morsel. The rice was well seasoned, the chunks of avocado were just right, and piled on top of it all was crab, tons of fresh ahi and finally loads of tobiko, making it a well balanced plate.
