Is it possible to like and dislike a place equally? This is kind of how I feel about MKT. Although the beer menu is large, Metro downtown has a larger and more varied selection at better price. The beer I got from the tap was often short poured so I switched to bottles instead. I had the food there and it was good. But in all honesty, I can't provide too much detail beyond this since we as a group got right, good and smashed that night so details are fuzzy. It definitely attracts a younger crowd but it isn't too bad. Be prepared to make a reservation on weekends; we had to wait an hour before a table freed up. I'll have to write a revision or update the next time I go and hope that I'll be clearer headed for that review. read more

Poor customer service. The drink they made was asked to be taken off the bill because it was extremely over salty, and pretty damn gross- they did not take it off the bill. Mkt is a run if the mill beer bar. It's selections of beer are hardly inventive or hard to find. To eat we had the pulled pork tacos and the delux sliders. The food was good if kind of bland. The burgers were unremarkable. Too much meat and not enough flavour. The tacos were alright although the tortilla overwhelmed the filling for the flavour. As far as the fries they were soggy and limp definitely not a pub quality fries. For the price I was expecting more. read more

Okay, MKT is a bar right? With a nice big patio. Sure, and I have been there probably 7-8 times since it opened. But it has been a while. Last night the boys and I decided to visit Whyte for a few beers and start at MKT. We ordered food. I ordered the Strathcona Smoked Meat Sandwich. My world changed. I travel a lot for work, I eat in a lot of restaurants. That sandwich, the presentation, the quality, is world class! I had not idea MKT was also a pretty damn good restaurant. At least if that sandwich is any indication. I would put the Strathcona Smoked Meat sandwich up against anything in Montreal ( and they know a thing or two about smoked meat sandwiches). The presentation is also really nice almost like charcuterie. When I find something like this is my own City I feel proud. Way to go MKT. read more

I've been here many times and will keep coming back. it's a great place with a great atmosphere. the place is huge only down side is the bathrooms are upstairs. they have a huge patio with a bar outside. you'd think with it being right on gateway blvd that it would be very noisy but I've never noticed. the train can be noisy outside but inside you don't notice a thing. most nights and weekends it's pretty busy and on the weekends its best to make a reservation otherwise you'll be waiting at least 30mins. I've been lucky and never had a bad server here. usually I get the same 3 girls and they've been very attentive and my glass is rarely empty. there's a good beer selection and extensive drinks list. I have to rave about the mojitos here. they're very expensive ($11) but definitely worth it. the best I've ever had. the food has always ranged from mediocre to good. the pretzels are great and the waffle chicken sandwhich is always a good choice. just always watch out for anything with their mustard on it. it's incredibly hot and spicy. read more

By far the best bar on Whyte Ave. Even better, its just off a bit so you don't have to deal with every drunk idiot. Their food menu is freaking awesome, so many prime choices. I really like the Rotisserie Club. My friends and i have become kind of regulars so we get treated like Rock Stars when we come in. AWESOME. No table no problem well make one. Customer Service just great. Now the drink menu is even better than the food menu. Beers galore so many choices. I love this place, it really takes alot to say that. Also in the summer time they have the best patio. So much space, great crowd. It seems that an older crowd hangs out here, meaning no to little trouble. Even though I've been at MKT many times, still have mixed feelings about it. Yes, its a good place to have different kinds of beer, however the prices are a bit high, same with food. The service is inconsistent, ending up being poor most of the time, seems like their staff don't care much. Very often its hard to get a table, even on a dead Monday night. They have this large size tables that are always reserved, and not too many tables for 2-4 people. Way too loud during weekend nights. Decent Bar with a great selection of food and beer. The layout is pretty cool although it is a little strange that the only bathroom is on the second floor. MKT also has one of the best patios on Whyte. I am a huge fan of the German style foods available on the menu; not a common thing in Edmonton. The beer menu is massive and has something for everyone. The food was horrible!! I ordered the fish & chips which were soggy... Not crispy like fish usually is. Instead of malt vinegar I was given what tasted like balsamic vinaigrette. The chips aka fries were just little nubs. No full fry was in the basket. The service was good. The server replaced my fish but it came back soggy so I guess that's just the way it's served Gross!! My friend had the burger which she said was average but her fries were the same as mine. The pretzel appetizer was decent the dipping sauce tasted like cheese wiz. MKT is great! There is a huge beer list; something for everyone! There are fruity beer and dark beers - basically you can't go wrong. The food was also pretty good! I loved that you can order soft pretzels! My other favourite was the grilled cheese sandwich fondu! They cut up the grilled cheese and brought a bowl of tomato soup (a little thick) with a tea light under it for dipping! How cute!!!!! Bf and I had a great time, this place is definitely busy as we weren't able to get a spot on the patio. The inside was really well renovated. Very new and fresh! Went here for a business meeting. All I can say is "Meh". To be fair, the company ordered pogos, nachos, onion rings, fries, mini burgers... Nothing was over the top. The mini burgers were super dry, the nachos were missing cheese, the pogos were made of 80% batter... The onion rings were tasty though, if that counts? Extensive beer list, but pricey. The food I had was good, especially the fried chicken and waffle sliders. My FH got the Shepherd's Pie and neither of us were impressed. You couldn't taste the truffle in the creamed corn and there was barely any meat. The design of the place is great, very vintage, but it's a little on the dim side. I know, it's a pub, but still. it was also very loud. Granted, we were there during the Fringe, but I don't like having to half-yell to be heard. Our server was great; friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Saturday night with a group of people and found that that many of the larger tables were reserved for a Christmas party . The waitress did her best to accommodate us since we would only be a short time. The location is an old train station which gives it a distinctive layout. A large bar, ample, small stage and dance floor complete the main floor. The upstairs has a small bar, more seating and the washrooms. The menu looked good with many tasty selections to choose from. In the cocktails in the menu are 2oz and around $15 a bit on the high side. My girlfriend ordered a particular cocktail but was disappointed we they said they couldn't make it because they had no espresso??? She ordered the fish tacos and was disappointed again when they told her she couldn't have one of each of the filling choices. The three tacos were $15 with no sides and charged $6.50 for a tiny bowl of garlic fries! I had the chicken sandwich and it was good but for the price I felt it should have included the garlic parmesan fries instead of the $2 add on. I thought $19 for an ok chicken sandwich and a small portion of fries was a bit high. Overall not a bad casual place, but a bit pricey for what it is and it seemed the wait staff seemed a bit inexperienced. Oh and btw, it's allegedly haunted. So there's that read more

First off, keep in mind that MKT just opened, and are still working out the kinks with their menu, service, etc. That being said, I quite enjoyed MKT! If you are a beer and/or cider fan, you won't find a better selection anywhere in the city. It's a pretty overwhelming menu but, after we told the waitress what kind of drinks we liked, she reported back to us with a list of choices that would fit that description - perfect! As a result, I tried a bunch of different things, and enjoyed every single one. Prices may seem expensive, but it really depends what kind of beer you're getting. If you really like exploring a range of hard-to-find microbrews, you're probably used to paying a bit more anyway (like me). As for the food, it was hit or miss. Their food menu is really big at the moment, mostly because they are trying to figure out what does, and does not sell. Once they sort out their strengths and weaknesses, they will alter the menu as such. That being said, in the meantime I wouldn't make a special trip out here for the food (just the beer). As for the service, we had an absolutely fantastic waitress who was really helpful, and patient with all our questions (even if she had to ask someone else for the answer). All in all, I'm excited to have a great place like this that serves far, far more than Bud Light on tap. If you really appreciate beer, you will love this place. read more

Dissapointed in the service and the prices. For a beer market, the prices are way too high. We went during happy hour when it was $5 a beer but there only 6 beers to choose from out of 75. What a joke! We went there one afternoon when it wasn't busy and waited at least 20 min to get served so we moved to the bar thinking we could get quicker service but again waited. What ever happened to good service? Anyway we probably won't go back. Too pricey for the beer and the food for what u get. I won't recommend it to anyone. Also having the bathrooms upstairs isn't really conducive to a bar. read more

What a find! Passed through Edmonton recently on a Saturday/Sunday of the three-day Civic Holiday. Great atmosphere on the patio! Excellent gastropub food selection. Had the pretzel appetizer on day 1 and the portobello mushroom sandwich on day 2. Terrific beer selection, complete with a beer bible that describes color, aroma, body, and aftertaste for serious beer tasters. I am a self-appointed beer snob from California, and MKT's beer list did not disappoint. Would go back again! read more

Very small patty for the pretzel bun they serve it with. Overall, it's far too overpriced for the low quality burger that was served. Probably one of my favorite places to go to. Love the atmosphere. For the most part, service is usually average but I have had some amazing servers in the past! Love both the food and drink menus, theres definitely something for everyone. Prices are average, and for what you get, fair. My go-to's would be the Stadium Fries with Chicken and the Mac&Cheese with jalapenos and bacon. Always delicious and full of flavour! Just don't go during big sporting events, as they often end up tapped out of a lot of beers if that's your poison. read more

I just witnessed a bartender break a glass near the ice bin. He didn't know anyone had seen him. He immediately reported it, and despite it being an very busy night, he emptied the ice bin. He cleaned it and spent at least 20 minutes making sure it's clean. To me this shows the highest standard of care, and should be commended. He seemed surprised that I noticed him. I ordered my first drink and after a few minutes one of my buddies was stepping outside so I went with him. When I returned, my beer was gone. I had only drank the neck and maybe an inch more. I figured the bartender put it down on his counter until I returned. Nope. He told me it was empty. It was 3/4 full and it was my first drink. Maybe he figured I was as enebriated as my Irish buddies and I wouldn't quite realize what he did. I'm giving a 4-star review for atmosphere and the awesome beer menu. The food here is decent... but I've had some issues with bland fish tacos, a cold turkey club, and a very drippy wrap of some sort. That being said, the mac and cheese is pretty tasty. I really like the pretzels... if you drink a couple pints with them, they expand in your stomach and voila! You're full on just an appetizer! As I said, the beer selection is fantastic and it's a fun place to play beer roulette (eyes closed, pick a beer on the menu)l - thx to my bf for that tip). I'm sad they took away my cherry dream beer blend (guinness & liefmans) but maybe it will be back. I tried a couple times ask a serve if they could make it but I got a, "no, sorry," response. I arrived at MKT at 3:45pm on Friday. I was stopped by a hostess who told me she'd seat me. I explained there would be 4 to 6 people in our party. I was then taken to a table for 4. I asked, "can I move tables together if more than 4 people come?" She said that wouldn't be a problem. In the next 30 minutes people were sat at the tables all around me. A few minutes later, the rest of my party arrived and we were now 6 people. They couldn't find another table for us on the main floor, but they said we could sit upstairs at 5:30pm. So, we waited 30 minutes, with some of us sitting at the bar and others at the small table we were first given. Finally, the arbitrary 5:30 deadline arrives and we're able to move to a large table upstairs. The server takes our drink order, but before it arrives, we're asked to move again because they failed to mark the table we'd chosen with a "reserved" sign. The booth they thought it was perfectly reasonable to move us to didn't actually seat 6 people. Worse still, one of the people in our party had a full leg cast and couldn't maneuver into the cramped booth. My friend complained to a manager, and to the manager's credit, he was embarrassed over how his staff handled us and he paid for the drinks we'd managed to get thus far. However, at this point we were tired of being disrespected by the place and we couldn't stomach the idea of giving them any money, so we went to elsewhere. I should also point out that anyone with a high-school diploma could handle the logistical conundrum that's posed by having to place 6 bodies comfortably in a building that's large enough to hold hundreds of people. Judging by the number of "reserved" signs that they did manage to dole out on tables, it's obvious they're not interested in groups over 4 who just want to stop in. It's great to staff your restaurant with eye-candy, but MKT management might want to run some simple tests past them before unleashing them on the public. I'm guessing some of the staff would fail the square-peg-round-hole exam. How else do you explain thinking you could force six people (one in a leg cast) into a booth for 4? We went in last Thursday night & didn't get service for a while . Our server finally came by and walked away before we could even order beers . When she came back she dropped off the beers without saying a word . She finally came back and grabbed our food order . Our food came all at once even though we asked for it separately. I went to MKT with a few friends and overall, it was okay. The taste of the food was good and we enjoyed our meals. There were some things that could be better but it wouldn't prevent me from returning. My friends' steak was cold (or cool) in temperature and they replaced it. $17 for mac and cheese is pricey. I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and vegies. I did not eat the vegies - nothing special - but I was there for the chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I couldn't wait! They maybe put a tablespoon of gravy on the dish, not more, and I mentioned to the server that there was hardly any gravy and the potatoes were a bit dry because of it, so I asked for a shot glass amount of gravy. They ended up charging me $1 for the "extra" gravy. Really!!!! The cost of this is not the issue, of course. It just made them come across and cheap and cheesy, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. That's what I walked away thinking about instead of the food or atmosphere or service. Shame on you MKT! read more

What's not to love? Gorgeous patio, impressive drink selection, a menu with something for everyone and awesome happy hour specials. Free parking too! I had the pretzels for an appy and a huge plate of prime rib along with some raspberry mojitos...big yum!!! Bernadette was really nice and helpful. The only downsides I found were the upstairs bathroom which could be an issue if you have mobility issues and the service was on the slow side towards the end of the meal. I will definitely be back though, I can see MKT becoming a favorite summer hangout! read more

I have a had a great experience here then also a brutal experience here. Brutal time our server kept ignoring us/forgetting us. We had to keep grabbing servers passing us for more water or a bill. While we could see the server chatting with someone behind the bar, then when she would be told about us. We got attitude central. I am giving this place a 4 because my First time was the complete opposite. So I hope they can find some better staff who treat all patrons with welcoming arms. read more

First time here: huge disappointment. I had high hopes as I had heard a great deal about this place. Out server was too busy to serve our table so one of the managers looked after us. He was doing great and then the "server" showed up. Rapidly downhill from there. Over an hour wait for the food, 20 mins wait for a beer and she kept forgetting the drink order in. And the excuses kept coming: the kitchen is backed up, the bar is backed up, bla bla bla. Don't care lady! The table next to us had the same issues so when the manager spoke to them about it the other table sent him out way. He comped about 25% of the bill. This made me happy. The server needs to quit and go do something else. In summary: delicious and interesting menu items, fantastic beer selection but a solid D- on the staff. This place is good if you're watching the game on a weekend. The beer selection is great, and the service is also just as good. My friend had ordered a beer that wasn't in stock so the waitress chose 3 beers that were just as good as the one he ordered and he was able to sample and choose which one he wanted. Other than that the food was okay, typical bar food. The restaurant has a gorgeous patio which I would recommend to experience on a nice sunny afternoon and there are tvs everywhere so good for entertainment. read more
