$4 beer special is a draw, but not enough to have me repeat business. Been 3 times and they've not enticed me to return. Most beer brands are mainstream European and larger domestic, which are largely available at the liquor store. Local and craft-brews are disappointingly few. Food is mediocre at best. Ordered the sausage plate, which was expensive and bland. Last time, I had to send back a $13 ahi-tuna fresh sheet "dip" because it looked like a child chopped up giant pieces of cucumbers, red onion, and micro-minced tuna in a bowl with more plain chips than anyone wants. Service is unremarkable, even slow and amateur (server stood talking to me while I pointed out that the person behind me probably needed a napkin for the drink they had spilled). Walking into this place gave a nice vibe. Pretty chilled and laid back. Seems like a good place to just hang w a group. The food however was mediocre. Nothing really that stood out. The portion was decent except for the appetizers. Got the schnitzel and bratwurst, it was good. I have learned that I only should drink here. The food is consistantly of poor quality or coming out wrong. I figured I should expect good food from the century group, so its quite a shock that it is always unexceptional. The service varies. Its a bit hit or miss. And there was good attention from the staff. Would have been nicer with a different table configuration. The low tables and benches made it hard to sit. It's nice, but it never seems to have the interesting crowds similar bars have. Central almost always has twice the crowd with colorful characters. Maybe it's Whyte in general. I'm in love with the atmosphere of MKT. Very casual and laid back. They've got tons (60+ I believe) of beers on tap for all you beer lovers out there, as well as deals on those tap beers on Thursdays. The food is way better than a lot of pubs out there, and they've got a great patio for the summer months. Inside there are a bunch of TVs for you to watch the sporting event of the moment. Went to MKT on a busy Friday to sit out on the patio with a few friends.... We were told they don't take names for the patio so we awkwardly stood there and waited to poach a table. Lucky for us we were able to sit down after about ten minutes. The waitress came over quick and gave us menus and asked for drink orders. I ordered a ceaser which was good but nothing special. We quickly noticed that we weren't going to be able to talk during this outing because the music was so unpleasantly loud. It has to be one of my pet peaves in restaurants. I don't want to have to scream to my friend across the table. Anyways, we all wanted some deep fried fatty foods so two of us ordered the regular poutine. My partner ordered the Tuna poke. It took about half an hour to get our food, which is pretty quick considering how busy it was. Unfortunately, our poutine was inedible. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. I understand that poutine is suppose to be salty, fatty and delicious.. but this was not okay. On top of that our waitress was missing after she dropped our food and we didn't see her again until she brought the bill and cleared away our food. The tuna poke was okay but kind of boring considering what they could have done with it. Also considering traditional poke is far more delicious. When the waitress did come and we explained how terribly salty the poutine was she asked if we wanted to order something else. We declined because we were basically over the loud music and yelling to each other. The poutine was taken our bills which was nice but expected. I will end by saying I do hope to try MKT again and hope the chef that was so heavy handed with the salt is not working. read more

Wow. We have been here so many times and generally love it especially in the summertime on the patio. The last 2 times we've gone have been bad enough that we likely won't be back any time soon. The latest, which was today, my husband and I decided to go for a patio drink since the sun was shining! Our waitress (Sam - according to the receipt) looked absolutely miserable - like we were totally inconveniencing her by ordering one drink each. That took 15 minutes and then we weren't asked about food for another 15 minutes. We did plan on having a bite, but didn't have 2.5 hours to spare. Our drinks were also missing one major component that was listed on the menu but we didn't dare say anything because she was already so not happy to be there. Other tables were clearly annoyed with her as well as she would simply take old glasses or dishes and place them on an open table instead of bringing them back inside the restaurant. We saw a couple come in and wait 25 minutes and they still didn't have any drinks by the time we left. When we were paying our bill, we tried to strike up a conversation saying it was awesome that it wasn't raining since that's what the forecast predicted, but she said she wished it would rain (likely because her shift would be over). When we left, the waitress was sitting down on a chair looking like she wanted to be anywhere else. This was an awful experience. read more

First time here, food was great and the restaurant looked really cool . Our server on the other hand was the problem. I believe her name was Jamie . We had a table of 8 and she told us auto gratuity (18%) was gonna be added onto our bill. No problem I understand why as I am a server ourself . That being said we barely saw her . It took a while before she came and greeted us . Once we ordered our food we didn't see her and the super nice manager came by and did her work (drink refills , checked up on us ,actually smiled ) we spoke to him about getting auto gratuity being removed (which yes you can do if you felt service wasn't good ) as soon as she found out about that she ended up talking about us to her other co worker who both kept starring at us ... either then our server we had a great time read more

Food is fine. Service was worst I've ever had eating out. Not an exaggeration. Server forgot my drink order 3 times. I even pointed to it on the menu each time. Got the wrong beer and later was finally told they were out of my beer. Took unacceptably long to get a beer. Food order was taken, of course had to ask if we could order food eventually. Again server seemed as though she couldn't keep it straight. Came back to verify 4 times and on last time my friend had to ask if it was even put in if she was checking so many times. Food eventually came. So did a second round of our food as server entered it twice. Ordered a second beer, which took 25 minutes to arrive. As you can imagine, problem with bill at time to pay. Got charged for the beer I didn't order, a mystery salad and one of our entrees was missing. It was a horrible experience. It was not even that busy. Lots of empty seats as it was early afternoon. My boyfriend and I went for dinner on Thursday night. We asked our server if the beer we were ordering was part of the Thursday night special for around 3$, she said yes but it wasn't. We were charged $6.50. Our food was taking over 30 minutes so we asked our server if she could check it out for us. She told us it would be another 7 minutes and sent us her manager. The manager came and asked us if our server told us the food would take approx. 45 minutes but she didn't. The manager just blamed the owner for expanding the restaurant too much and that the kitchen can't keep up with the amount of people ordering food. After all of this our food still didn't come. I got a 'Kale Salad' with added chicken, and there was literally 5 tiny pieces of kale in a giant mound of romaine lettuce. I'm not exaggerating, it was a 'full' salad and almost no kale. This is not comparable to other places like Earl's where it is actually a kale salad. I almost sent it back, it was pretty ridiculous. Server was super friendly, she stayed on top of our drinks. People love to hate on MKT. It is a charmless place manufactured as a vehicle to get you drunk and forget about how awful the food and hockey team on TV is. Massive clipboards takeover your table at seating and everything on the beer menu and food menu is described with such gusto that they make devilled eggs sound supernatural. A chore is how I would describe most of the food, apps and wedge salads require far too much hand, knife, and fork gymnastics to calorie-ingestion ratio. The food fails to live up to the descriptions on the menu and they've said they're improving but in multiple trips here, it seems trapped in stasis. Every plate and dish feels like there's something missing to the point it feels problematic. I'll call this an incomplete review for an incomplete restaurant. There is a reason for coming here at least once a week, four reasons actually. $4 draft on beer every Thursday. Also, lots of TVs, 60 beers on tap, and pretty waitresses. read more

Oh boy, I wanted to like this place so bad. I guess I'll start with the positives. The inside is pretty cool. It's a huge place with lots of room inside and outside. And they have really nice long-bench wooden tables. and it still has a bit of that "this was once an old train station" feel. They have a huge selection of beer (including gluten-free beer) so if you're a beer lover, you'll probably like MKT. If you're coming for the food, however, I would suggest to keep your expectations really low or eat at the McDonald's across the street before you head over. The menu looked promising, but don't be fooled. I ordered the All Day Breakfast, gluten-friendly style. I don't know how you can get breakfast wrong, but they did. The potatoes were overcooked (deep-fried for too long). The bacon was overcooked. The over-easy eggs were also overcooked--solid yolk all the way through. And there was a piece of gluten-free bread on the plate. It seemed like it had been toasted for maybe 10 seconds, so it really it wasn't toast, it was just a plain piece of bread with nothing on it. There were two nice big slices of tomato on the plate--pretty much the only good thing. To top it off though, the eggs and potatoes were wayyyyy over-seasoned with big chunks of pepper. I like pepper, but Christ, that was serious overkill. And at the price they were charging, it was a total rip-off. I was hoping this would be a cool place I could hang out with friends and come to eat. But most of the people at my table were unimpressed. Went to Mkt with a few friends to soak up some sun on the patio. The server didn't come back till all members arrived to take our first drink order. She immediately started complaining about the sound of the sports game playing over the speakers. When we asked which ciders she had she refused to list them. When a member of our party asked for a flight of beer she heavily sighed and acted really annoyed. When I asked for some menus she said the 5 of us could share the one we had. I visited here from Vancouver to have a drink on a sunny patio. The sign on MKTs patio said seat yourself, so we did. The manager Nate came over and facetiously told us that we had skipped the line. My sister and I were overtly apologetic and left the table to stand in a 2 person line. After examining the sign, we informed Nate that his sign was very confusing as it listed 3 contradicting statements: - first come, first served - please form a line - please seat yourselves We followed what was written in the largest font and first listed: "please seat yourselves". Upon letting the manager Nate know that his sign was confusing and contradictory, he was extremely dismissive and confrontational letting us know he would have to change the sign every 5 minutes. The line is tucked around the corner and the hostess doesn't acknowledge anyone who walks in. We left and found a better served patio. read more

MKT is one of my favorite bars in the city during the summer because they have a great patio. In the winter, they're a bit of a bore. While the beer list is great, the food is average and the service is kind of unreliable. If I'm joining a group late, I've come to expect our server not to notice my arrival for at least 20 minutes, but if I get there first I'll usually be served in a reasonable amount of time. Getting your bill at the end of it, however, is always a test of patience though, especially if you're eager to hit the next location on Whyte Avenue. Nevertheless, I still have faith in MKT, and won't turn down a cold drink on a sunny evening if I can sit outside. read more

This place is a favourite of guys I work with. They have a phenomenal beer selection and you CANNOT beat $2.94 Alberta draft on Thursdays. As for the food, it is so-so. I've tried lots of different items on the menu and they're decent. The burger is ok, the pulled pork is disappointing, the pot stickers are pretty good, the fried chicken is solid, and their fries are quite good. Also, I recommend going early if you're looking to get a table. It can get really busy. All in all, this is a cool spot and you should definitely give it a try. MKT is very pretty! It has such a cool design (I would hope so after being redone forever). I wish the food was as good as the design. I've tried a few different dishes here now, sandwiches, the very over priced seafood platter, one of their burgers. The kettle chips were the worst. I really like the beer selection and I'd go here with a group of friends for drinks, but I need to stop trying to find something good on their menu. If they could flip their menu around to be as tasty as Hundred it would be stellar. It has a fabulous location, a great patio and a ton of parking. For beer nerds such as myself, this place is heaven. After a somewhat rocky opening it seems that the new kids on the block from the Century Group have gotten their legs under them. I have a soft spot in my heart for any Edmonton establishment that has oysters, but the dishes that I have had here have been great! Is it possible to like and dislike a place equally? This is kind of how I feel about MKT. Although the beer menu is large, Metro downtown has a larger and more varied selection at better price. The beer I got from the tap was often short poured so I switched to bottles instead. I had the food there and it was good. But in all honesty, I can't provide too much detail beyond this since we as a group got right, good and smashed that night so details are fuzzy. It definitely attracts a younger crowd but it isn't too bad. Be prepared to make a reservation on weekends; we had to wait an hour before a table freed up. I'll have to write a revision or update the next time I go and hope that I'll be clearer headed for that review. read more
