We recently went to The Canadian Brewhouse and ordered the CBH donair with brisket poutine, the buffalo chicken wrap, cracked black pepper and sea salt dry ribs, and two orders of hot wings. The CBH donair was honestly really good. The meat was super tender and full of flavour, and the wrap itself came together really well. The buffalo chicken wrap was also a standout -- perfectly cooked, really flavourful, and not overly spicy which I appreciated. The dry ribs were a classic. Nothing super unique, but still very tasty and well seasoned. Same with the hot wings -- no complaints there, just a solid, classic wing. The only disappointment food-wise was the brisket poutine. It was a little sad and felt quite dry, like the elements didn't really come together the way a good poutine should. Unfortunately, we also found a small piece of a broken toothpick in the poutine, which could have been really bad if it hadn't been noticed. That said, the staff handled it really well. Our server was very kind and quick to address the issue. She checked in regularly and still managed to have a friendly chat with us even while the place was busy. The manager, Ethan, was also very apologetic and handled the situation professionally. He even took one of our wing orders off the bill so we only had to pay for one, which we appreciated. As for the atmosphere, the decor is definitely a bit dated. The tables have visible wear marks and the carpet looks pretty used. But it still has that classic sports bar vibe, and there's lots to look at around the restaurant which adds to the atmosphere. Overall, despite the hiccup with the poutine, the service was great and most of the food was really enjoyable. I'd definitely come back for the donair and wraps. read more

I don't even know where to start. We were here from 6:30 till about 9:45. That will tell you how slow and bad the service was. Food rating 2/5. We ordered nachos, yam fries, and deep fried pickles as a starter. Those were delicious and based on the taste of those we were really excited for our meal. Food ordered at my table were the steak special, chicken wings, burger, salad, and I ordered the perogy pizza. Only 3/11 people said they really liked their meal. The ribeye was DISGUSTING. Only 1/5 who ordered that dish liked it. The rest did not finish it because it was so bad (overly charred and the cut was fatty). My friend's burger arrived with no condiments because get this, they ran out of ALL burger condiments except for bbq sauce. My perogy pizza was pretty much just a mountain of potatoes on top of bread with cheese sprinkled on it. Definitely not as advertised. Service 1/5. My friend ordered the steak and they just gave him a bowl of mashed potatoes which sat there getting cold for 15 mins before they brought him the rest of his meal. A few other people had their orders messed up. It took 40 mins for us to get the bill. Another friend had to leave before even receiving his order that was placed an hour before. The waitress was very sweet but was not attentive. Once the food came out she did not check on us again. We had to have someone chase her around the restaurant if we needed anything. Eventually we gave up and tried to flag someone else down but that wasn't helpful either. There were 2 available staff just standing around flirting with a table of men. Not only am I in love with the food from the brew house, but their service is amazing. I recently had an incident with skip where my burger was missing. So I gave them a call and they were so so polite, they made my grandpa a new burger with fries, and gave us a free appetizer. They even went so far as to offer me a drink while waiting for the order when I went to pick it up. I'm so sorry that I don't remember their names, but thank you to the girl who was so so sweet to me on the phone, and great job to whoever is managing this place! I brought in a group of 16 people from my 40+ singles group. We have been coming to the 97th St. location for over a year now and the service has always been subpar to not so great but we like the location and we kept coming back for that. Alicia was our server this time and the service was the best service we have ever had at this location and we will be requesting her from now on to be our server. She got all of our orders out fast and accurate she was pointing out to the other two people helping her exactly who got what food or drinks were perfect and fast and everything was amazing. Usually when we come in the servers are all huddled in the corner and we're getting next to no service at all, this girl deserves a raise. She is amazing. read more

There are a few reasons I've been going to this pub lately: it's on my way home; it has a big patio facing west with hours of afternoon sun exposure for tanning (with sunscreen, of course) while I enjoy a pint or two with friends; the poutine is cheap, cheese-bathed and delicious (even if it's not real cheese curds, just mozza) and there is free Internet. Yes, I love being able to put my feet up and chill out while still staying connected via Wi-Fi. You never know when the urge to Google will arise. This place has great appetizer specials and themed menus when there's a big hockey game on. Last winter we watched the play-offs here. The place was packed and the vibe was fantastic. I recommend the Brew-chos, the chicken wings (big and meaty) and $1 Taco Tuesdays. Even if you're not a sports junkie, this place is lots of fun during a game or on the weekend. read more

First and foremost big thanks to the Brewhouse for the online birthday reservations for the tables, and for accommodating the cake I brought in earlier! They put in right in to the fridge for me and brought it out with a knife, plates and napkins when requested! Great service. Night was amazing until the server tried to dupe us by double billing us on a couples $68.00 bill that left earlier. ( had a group of 18). The bill had " re-print " on the bottom. When we told the server the couple paid at the bar, she said that it's not possible to do that (red flag!). We phoned the couple immediately who sent a screen shot of their bank statement showing the withdraw from the CDN Brewhouse. On 3 separate occasions the server said she would bring her manager over, which we were more then willing to talk to so this situation could be resolved. We even said "please bring the manager over". We waited and the manager never came ( I did not even see the server go to a manger - she continued to serve tables.) she had no intention to have a manger come over. We decided to leave. So I had to wait on a buddy and was stuck in the parking lot, I looked over and saw a place I have rarely been in. It was time I went back into the Canadian Brewhouse, and I am really glad I did. This place is doing everything right, from a marketing standpoint and from a patron view. Large screen TV's everywhere, there had to be over 20 with games, trivia and even restraint information. Well played!!! Sam Wise, a.k.a. Samantha was quick and efficient and amazing to deal with. Knowledgeable in everything the Brewhouse does she had answers to all of my trick questions. I've been here a couple of times, and I love it! I was looking for a place to watch Game 2 (GO OILERS GO!) on the North side, and this kept popping up. I'm sure glad it did! I knew it would be busy, so I thought if we got there a little over an hour before the game started, we should be able to get a table. I was surprised to see that it was already full of Jersey wearing fans by that time. There was a guy working the door, and letting everyone know that we were welcome to come in and stand around and hope that a table opens up (he was keeping an eye on the numbers to make sure they didn't go over capacity). We ended up standing next to the bar for about 20 minutes when I noticed a group getting ready to leave a booth in the corner. SCORE! We got there before anyone else and settled in for the evening. The place was understandably packed for the entire night. The energy was great, and the staff do a great job of keeping everyone entertained. Lots of chants and cheering, and we even got a WAVE going! The food was great and the servers did an amazing job at keeping the drinks full and tending to all their customers. When my friend suggested this place close to his new house, I was skeptical. I learned to avoid places like these because I find them all the same, which isn't great. This sports bar is clean and cozy, with big screen TVs in all the right places. My friend likes to watch the UFC fights here, and I can see why. Looks like a great view no matter where you sit. Service was immediate and friendly. Pretty extensive menu. It looks like standard bar fare, but I can see the effort they put into pulling it up a notch. My friend and I had the donair with the wild mushroom soup, and I practically inhaled it. It really it the spot, and it was pretty quick too. Not a bad price either at $15.00 a plate, because the donairs were huge. Wish I'd checked out their drink menu before I ordered instead of after dinner. They have 7 different kinds of caeser drinks, and they're on special every Saturday and Sunday for five bucks! I have nothing negative to say. Came here with a group of friends for the Oiler's season opener, our group ordered a few beers and wings - both boneless and regular. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive, the boneless wings were barely lukewarm, the regular ones were cool, sauce on top had congealed and was cold, the meat was room temperature and the centre again was barely warm. We didn't bother to send everything back and just dug in. Not worth ordering food here, draft beer $8 for 22oz was decently priced though. read more

My friends invited me out to take advantage of FlashDeal's coupon of $1 dollar steaks. Vibe reminded me of Boston Pizza's lounge/bar area. Open seating and a very large bar. There was also pool tables, foosball table, and a shuffle board as well. I was quite surprised that a place like this served dinner menus but I was pretty impressed with what I got: starter garden salad and mini corn dogs. These corn dogs aren't the crack-laced magnificence they serve you at Klondike days, but I'd probably give them a solid 2/5: passable. Salad's decent but you can't screw up salad. The most surprising aspect was the steak. It's probably a 6 or 8 oz. lil spud but it was not bad. Cooked to what I requested (medium rare), it was served with mashed potatoes and some garlic-y steak sauce. The only expensive thing was the drinks: a bottle of MGD was about 6-7 dollars. Overall, I spent about $10 including tip. I'm sure if we didn't have that coupon it'd be a lot worse on the bill. read more

Hands down probably the worst restaurant experience I've had. My ball team and I went in for nachos, beers and tacos on a Tuesday after our last game. We walked in with a group of 9 of us and asked if they could accommodate us. To me, it looked like they couldn't, but the manager said "yeah for sure! There's no room down here but you guys can go up to the top section." (That area had a sign saying it was closed, so instantly I knew they wouldn't have enough staff to open up a whole other section). They should have turned us away as soon as we walked through the door, but obviously they just wanted the business whether they could handle it or not. So we had some one (looked like a porter) come drop off menus, coasters and plates and then we didn't see our server for another (I'm not kidding you) 20 minutes as she came over super frantic and was obviously struggling with how many tables she had. We ordered all of our drinks and food. By this time, there were 3 ball teams up in our section now. We didn't get our drinks for another 10-15 minutes and then just our nachos (not our tacos) came out about 20 minutes after our drinks. So at this point, we're in the building for an hour. We had to ask the manager for waters, didn't bring them. Then one of us went and asked someone else for waters and our bills (assuming our tacos would come and we could just leave since we've paid)... our server comes over to our table for the first time since she took our order with our bills saying "okay here's your bills, waters are coming." And we had to ask if our tacos were coming... she then told us that there were only 2 guys in the kitchen so "as far as she knew, they were coming." So we still paid our bills in hopes that we even get the rest of our food. While we're paying, I asked our server how many tables she had and why her manager accepted so many teams in when they didn't have enough staff? She was explaining all her different sections and when I added up all the tables she said she had I think it was around 17 TABLES, 3 of them being large parties like us. She said she honestly is just running around doing as much as she possibly can to try and make something work but it was overwhelming. I don't blame her. So about 30 minutes later, our tacos finally come!!! ....and they're freezing cold. We ate what we could and we left. The one piece of advice that I have for the management of this particular location, DON'T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW!! If it is effecting your service this badly, obviously your sales don't matter that much!! You had a pretty much full building when we got in there, I'm sure that was enough $$ and your server probably wouldn't have hated her life. Yes, she probably would have walked out with BANK that night, but the only reason our table tipped her was because we felt bad for her because of the situation you guys put her in. Well having played league pool out of the location on 156st many years ago our travels took us last night to this location for some pool league action! Our server was friendly and engaging and quite on point with the drink orders. In fact she was commented on by everyone as being terrific. The room is pretty fantastic for sports event viewing as there is an abundance of sightlines to see all sorts of TV screens displaying your favourite sports teams battles. Pretty clean place and pretty updated as well. VLT's, Big buck hunter, Golden tee, 2 pool tables and a lot of seating within. Food is your typical pub grub but certainly pretty good for what you expect. A lot of people on the team last night opted for the special of the night which were tacos and no complaints there. Prices are ok but a bit high but maybe I am just living in the past lol. Seems like a basic burger now is $14-15 most places now. We had a great time and if not for it being so far from home I would check it out more to watch my wonderful sports teams in action! This was my first time visiting the canadian brew house, even though I live a few blocks from. My group of 6 decided to try this pub. We got seated by lindsay, right away and she was fantastic. Lindsay was personable polite friendly and knowledgable. We got our drink order taken quickly and within a few minutes she brought over a round of shots on the house! A few minutes later or drinks arrived followed very closely by Lindsey to take our appetizer order. Our group chatted for a bit. Our group watches a documentary then we go out to discuss. My nachos arrived and to be honest I wouldnt order them again. The chicken was dry and the nachos soggy and they didnt taste very fresh. However another couple beside us had the spinach artichoke dip and that was awesome. Her husband had the deep fries pickles. Which arent my favorite. The last couple had the sweet potatoes fries. My girlfriend and I choose wrong. We never ordered a main. We were full from the appies. 1st couple ordered the brisket grilled cheese and the Reuben. The looked amazing. Large fresh I was definetly envious. The last couple had the chicken burger with sweet potatoe fries and his wife had the cob salad. Which they both raved about. Portion size, freshness and quality. Also our one couple friends are Muslim and don drink, they were offered the prohibition beer and virgin Cesar's so it was awesome to have everyone included like that. Overall I camt wait to go back. Honestly, this is one of my favourite places in the city. It's my local pub and I always have a good time here, hands down. The staff are lovely and treat their regulars like gold, service is usually fantastic, even when they're really busy, and who doesn't like their dangles? The Brewhouse has no pretensions--they're a pub/bar and they serve great pub/bar food, along with having a number of excellent specials on throughout the week (my favourites are Wing Wednesday and Shrimp Thursday). You would think that it would be bursting at the seams at noon on a Sunday with people wanting to watch Sunday Football. Every other location is but this one. Only maybe 10 tables with people at them and after sitting for five minutes not even a sign of a server we got up and walked out. Off to the St. Albert location. Some things never change. read more

My husband and I went here on a Sunday and shortly discovered that it was karaoke night. Sadly the only person singing was the DJ. Also the DJ's behavior was slightly off putting. We had the special 8" two topping pizza and hot wings. The pizza crust was really good and there was an adequate amount of cheese. The wings were decent. As hot wings they where hot however the flavor of the hot sauce was lacking. The service provided by our waitress started on a high but slowed towards the end of our meal. Went last night and had Taco Tuesday. The Tacos were dry, but rum and Pepsi was great! There are VLTs for those so inclined, and loads of tv's to watch. The service was ok, nothing special. The atmosphere is low key. The lighting is pretty bad for menu reading. A big bonus was the call button in the table. With a touch of a button you can tell your waitress you are ready for the bill. I've been to this location a few times, and every time I wonder why I returned. I went for their taco night a few months back, ordered, and the food was delivered to the table behind us, who had arrived fairly recently, so there was no way it was their food, and it sat on their table for maybe 20 minutes before the waitress came back, and they mentioned it wasn't theirs, she then noticed we hadn't received our food yet, and realized it was probably ours, so she took the tacos from their table, and walked them ice cold rocks over to my boyfriend and I, expecting us to eat them, and then had the audacity to give us attitude when we politely asked for new ones. I'd gone again last night for a few birthday drinks with my boyfriend, and again we were all but ignored, our waitress seemed far more interested in hanging out with the group of drunk men at the bar than any of her tables. We'd decided to leave after one drink after not receiving any other service from our waitress. Trying to get our bill and pay was a painfully long experience, and leaving was the highlight of my night. I'll probably never return to the brewhouse, even if it is only a 5 minute walk from my house, and I will definitely recommend to my friends to stay clear of the place as well. read more

Went here last night after my ball hockey game. Ive been here before and liked it. However, this time was only so-so. It was a little difficult to find a seat and the seating is quite cramped. My group of 4 was crammed into a small table with a group behind us. There wasnt even enough room to walk behind us. I ordered the poutine and a beer. It tasted ok. Not all of the cheese on the poutine was melted so it seemed not entirely cooked. Between my beer and a poutine my bill was over $15. Kinda pricey considering what you get. My experience probably would've been a bit better if there wasnt a hockey game on. I love watching hockey but because of the cramped seating, it made it a little less enjoyable. Also during the intermissions the music was so loud that it was hard to carry a conversation. I would like to try them again and try more things on the menu, but maybe on a not so busy night. read more
