The small is plenty for one person, the medium is good for sharing with another person, and the large for a family of four... I always add poi (when available) if no poi I get Greek yogurt, always lilikoi (passion fruit butter) and the peanut butter drizzled on the granola with the banana and coconut is the perfect mix. What I like best about the bowl is there are different flavors in every bite... I've been a long time lover of açaí bowls and am a diehard fan of Blue Bowl back home in Orange County but even I have to say that Hawaiian açaí bowls just hit different and this ties solidly with my hometown's go-to spot for the title of my #1 fave. There are two things that set this bowl apart: (1) unparalleled freshness of the fruit and (2) lilikoi butter. In particular, the naturally sugary sweet papaya and pineapple are amazing additions. Pineapple is cut into thin, almost matchstick slices instead of the typical chunks you would expect, with the pièce de résistance ~lilikoi butter~ made in house and lightly drizzled on top as an exquisite complement that both enhances the natural pineapple flavor while adding tangy passionfruit overtones. Like the comparison to poke from OC, açaí bowls in Hawaii are much more minimalistic, eschewing the multitude of eclectic additions that trendy places in California typically boast (bee pollen, pumpkin/flax seed, goji berries etc etc), and instead relying completely on the simplicity of purely delicious fruit and just a few essential toppings to go with the açaí base. No other place on the island beats this spot for value, with their mini bowls starting at only $5. Make sure to check IG for updated hours because depending on the day, they can be open until late evening (8pm) or close as early as 4pm. Wish I could've revisited this spot more, one of the things that I'll miss most about Maui! Welp, I finally did it. I finally got my own acai bowl at Mo 'Ono. I normally only get acai bowls from another establishment and would just steal a bite or two from my husband every time he came here, lol. Took the plunge last month being that this was only 1 of 2 options for breakfast and you know what? I'm glad I did. I got a mini acai bowl (their smallest size available) and went with strawberries, pineapple, banana, and honey (minus the coconut, granola, and almonds). I also added a premium topping - lilikoi butter. I like the consistency of my acai like ice cream and so I've found that I enjoy their acai best when it's fresh at the food truck lot and not melted (vs. taking it home or elsewhere). Man that lilikoi butter, it is a total must and is the main reason why I've returned multiple times after my initial visit. I've also tried the poi which isn't always available and while I thought it was good, I'd rather have double the lilikoi butter, haha. What's great is their bowls are customizable, 'get some or get them all - it's up to you!' Extra side toppings are 50 cents, premium toppings are $1 each (or 50 cents for the mini). Overall, I think finally getting my own bowl was the key because I don't like granola or nuts or anything crunchy on my acai. The mini is the perfect size for me. The small is a bit too big, but perfect when sharing with my little guy. They also have extended hours on specific days which is awesome for me because I don't get off of work until 5 or 6 pm on most days. So I'm still new to the whole Acai bowl trend. I've only had a few experiences - Costco, Hawaiian Moons, and Mo' Ono. At Costco I had the Acai swirl frozen yogurt cup - affordable, but tasted medicinal. Not a big fan... At Hawaiian Moons in Kihei I tried one of their Acai based smoothies - excellent flavor, very filling. However, it's a bit pricier for the portion and out of my way to go regularly. Then comes Mo' Ono. This little food truck, tucked away in the food truck park across from Costco (on the Marriott side), offers a lot of great options. I recently tried the small Acai bowl with everything except pineapple and coconut, and I added lilikoi butter and blueberries as premium toppings. Funny enough, even though I was born and raised on Maui (26 years as a local), I had no idea that the word "liliko'i" actually had an 'okina in front of the last "i" and is pronounced "lee-lee-ko-ee" instead of "lily-koy" or "lee-lee-koy." It wasn't until I saw the written out correct spelling and heard the girl working there pronounce it properly that it hit me lol. So not only did I have an excellent snack, but I learned something too. I highly recommend adding the liliko'i butter also, as I feel it took to the next level. Overall, a great experience. Me and my family love Mo'Ono but when we went today we were disappointed and leaving this review in hopes they fix this problem & get better. First off we ordered and a guy was taking our order and he didn't say "hi" or "what can I get for you" he literally just stood there in front of the screen waiting for us to speak first even though I didn't even know if he was ready to take my order or not. When I ordered I specifically asked him if they could please put the toppings and acai in separate containers because we were driving back home and didn't want it to melt. He said "yes" so we were waiting extremely patiently, it took them about 30-45mins for two acai bowls one small and one large. The line wasn't long so it could've been their mobile orders that they can't keep up with but if that's the case they should be turning that off and helping the actual in person customers. When It was time to grab our order nothing was in separate containers. We were highly disappointed because we were looking forward to Mo'Ono but they didn't put it in separate containers and we didn't want to ask them to remake it because imagine how long that would've taken. Me and my family received all of our hot food before receiving our Mo'ono and would've appreciated some type of communication if they were backed up instead of me and my family just standing at the front of the truck just waiting and not knowing when it's gonna be ready and not even getting the items separated like I asked for. In the future Mo'ono needs to work on communication, following through if they say they're gonna do something, & better customer service while taking orders. read more
