I turned on my flashers to stop outside my friend's dorm and then all of a sudden everything turned off..."@#$!" It was around 9pm and I had no other options and I didn't want to pay for a tow truck since I'm a poor college student. So, I hunted for a mobile mechanic. He was to my car in 20 minutes and told me that I had killed my battery. I paid a little under 200 bucks. Which I know for a battery is high. Honestly I would like to have a review of something but these guys refused to call me back, answer my email, or any of the things they said they would do. I called and spoke with someone initially, explained my issue, he gave me an email address and asked me to provide him the information and assured me he would get back to me the next day. (Crickets chirping) It has been over a week since I called, emailed him with the problem, called again and left a message. They might be fine mechanics if you get them out to your car, but wow, I shouldn't have to work so hard to NOT get service. Boooo!! read more

I will say up front that I experienced little of this man's service. Outside of just general bad customer service, that is. Why am I reviewing? I called and immediately received a text message asking me my location, make and model of my car, and what seemed to be going wrong. I responded and hoped to be hearing back from him soon. Being someone that understands the nature of mobile mechanics, I absolutely get that their schedules fill up quickly, so I waited patiently. A friend and I went to lunch and after 30-45 minutes of not hearing back at all, I called and got through. He informed me that he got my text but didn't know that it was what I thought it might be (I first thought it was the starter, but I'M NOT THE MECHANIC) and that he didn't want to come all the way to where I was for it to be something else. Call me crazy, but if a potential customer is calling you and telling you that they don't care how much it'll cost to fix the problem, then isn't that a worthwhile business opportunity? If he's still in business, I trust he must be doing something right. That said, I'm glad I have USAA for my insurance carrier so I could get my car towed to a mechanic that would actually do their job. read more

I don't think that this mechanic, Ken, knows what he's doing and he doesn't want to admit it or he's just an outright scammer. Read on to get a full picture. I was driving when my car broke down on the side of 35. I was able to pull off the highway and get into a parking lot before the car stopped dead. Ken was the first mechanic to respond. When he arrived about an hour and a half later, he spent 5 minutes with the car and says the fuel pump is worn out needs to be replaced. Crap. On the other hand, my extended warranty would cover the replacement of the part and labor. Ken tells me that he can work with them. He charges me $100 for the diagnosis and says to get the car towed to his place and he'll work with the warranty people and replace it. He made it sound like it was going to be a quick process, as he said that there's a strip club right down the street from his shop that I can wait at while he replaces the part. It's already late in the afternoon, so I tell him that I'll have it towed in the morning. My car is at Ken's shop by 10:30am and Ken is no where to be found. I leave the car with who I can only assume is his wife/girlfriend and ask how soon the car may be ready. She says that Monday is most likely. Any chance I can get it by Sunday? I have to get to work somehow. She says maybe. Sunday comes and goes. I try to contact Ken to see how it's coming, but he never answers his calls directly. He lets it go to the answering machine and might call or text you 5-10 minutes later. I ultimately get no response on Sunday. He calls me Monday afternoon to let me know that he doesn't know how to work with this warranty company. I left ALL of the info that he would have needed with the car. Additionally, he was supposed to contact the warranty company before any work started, so by the time that I was told that it was supposed to be done, he hadn't even started on it. I give him the info again and he texts me a half hour later. I need to call the warranty company to work out some details. I call them and apparently, Ken cannot provide a Texas Tax ID, Business License or access a fax machine, so I need to pay it out of pocket and be reimbursed by them. I call Ken back and let him know that he can get started. He informs me that he doesn't really like working with this warranty company, they're "making (him) do a bunch of paperwork" and that's part of why it's taking longer than expected. This "paperwork" consisted of a single page invoice that included the price, part number of the part he replaced, labor cost and a single authorization number the warranty company provided him. Whole lot of paper work there. Guess he just doesn't like keeping record of what he's doing on customer's cars. I let him do his thing, trying to keep in contact with him at least once daily to make sure work is getting done. Christmas day comes and goes, and I didn't expect work to get done on that day. At this point, he's had my car a week and he says that it will be ready in an hour. I get there and he hasn't even put the part in yet. I chill a couple more minutes while he drops it in and makes sure the car runs. It still doesn't start. He spends the next 3 hours in the engine of my car. It's dark out and he doesn't have a proper shop, so we're sitting on a grass lot in a rougher part of town and he's working via headlamp. He replaces spark plugs. Nothing. Eventually I ask for a ride home and he tells me he's going get a better look at it the next day. Two days later. Ken calls me and tells me the timing chains have slipped and he has to pull the whole engine to re-align them. I can't cover this out of pocket so I say fuck it, I'll get it towed to a Lamb's shop where they can be paid directly and I don't have to deal with this nonsense anymore as we were on day 9. Lamb's tells me they are going to start working on it immediately. They find that the timing chain is fine, but the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. Replaced, it started up. When they went on a test drive, gas was pumping into the cabin of the car. They open up the compartment for the fuel pump (Remember, this is the part that Ken replaced and I had not told Lamb's about it yet) and found the pump had been installed incorrectly. An O Ring had not been installed in it and it was just just sitting right next to the pump, causing it to leak. I let them install it, and they charged me to make sure that is installed correctly. I contact Ken and let him know what happened and that I would be coming back to him to get the money that I had to spend to make sure that it is installed correctly. He claims that I should have let him take a look at the car and do it, as the part was guaranteed by him at that point. I don't know why he would think I would want him to touch my car after what I experienced. I wanted to make sure that it was done correctly. He claims he doesn't have any money. I've written it off. Ken with Mobile Mechanic Austin was beyond awesome to work with. Granted, he is a little more casual in his business practices (texting information, etc), but he was the most affordable mobile mechanic in Austin that would go out to a used car I was thinking about buying and checking it out. I called him at 6:00pm on tuesday asking if he could go out and look at the car the next morning. He came Wednesday morning at 11:00 am. That is just remarkable to me. Also, I called every other mobile mechanic I could find in Austin and no one could fit me in on that short of notice, and they all cost at least $25 more! Not only this, but whenever I met up with him to pay him (I was at work when he checked out my car), he insisted that he show me what to look for in a used car when I'm thinking about buying, so that I wouldn't have to call him again to check it out. He gave my boyfriend and I a nearly 45 minute tutorial on what to look for. Ken was beyond helpful and the most genuinely honest person I've dealt with so far in purchasing a car. read more

Car won't start. We called him at 11 AM today. He informed us that it would be a few hours. He called later to advise he didn't know the address. We told him where it was located and he stated that he would call when he was leaving South Austin. We called him again at 5:20, once again he told us we were on his list and he was going to get to us. It is now 9:17 at night. Had we known he was not going to be able to get to us as he had stated twice today we would of called someone else. We need the car for tomorrow. I would not ever recommend your service. My daughter was stuck in a parking lot with two blown drive belts last night. This morning, she called Mobile Mechanic Austin, who promised to be on the scene at 10am to fix the car by the time she got off work at 1:40. At 2:15, they had not arrived but said they would be there in an 'hour or so.' At 3pm (5 hours late) she gave up and I called another company to fix her car. Wish I had checked Yelp first. DUH! I also hope I called the right one the second time. Would not ever give this place any business for as long as I'm on earth. You need to have a WTF! rating we can 'award' to such places... read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! It is a total SCAM job. My boyfriend called to have his car "repaired" by Austin Mobile Mechanics yesterday. He was having a starter issue. The guy came out, did his thing, charged $450 and left. My boyfriend tried to start it up later and the car barely made it to another, trusted mechanic around the corner from us. The trusted mechanic told us the AMM had unplugged a couple things under the hood and touched something that should never be touched. Said my boyfriends car was in danger of overheating/exploding/causing permanent damage if he had continued to drive it. We WILL be doing whatever it takes to get my boyfriends money back, even if it means taking these scumbags to court. VERY sketchy people. Several different phone numbers and addresses. I am convinced that this man is a pure con-artist. When I tell you, the worst mistake I have ever made in my entire life was calling him, I mean it. I gave him my car, and he made it WORSE. The mistakes he inflicted on my car ALMOST KILLED ME ON THE ROAD. I am not being dramatic. I spent over $800 dealing with this man for a job that should have only cost me $300.I finally had to take my car to another mechanic who told me he did a botch job putting the parts back together. He left wires hanging out all over the place, and they got caught in the fan in my hood, and my car almost caught on fire!!! His business is shady. He is not careful with the way he handles cars. My experience with him was so bad, I had to visit a lawyer to see how I could sue this man, but because I paid cash WITH NO RECIPETS (dumb on my part), it would have been a battle, one that I wanted nothing to do with. He text messages everything, which can be rather annoying, and when you ask him why one day after fixing your car, it's breaking down...he texts you things like "I can't believe you are questioning my credibility," and "I will no longer work with you, take your car to another mechanic so they can charge you a fortune." IF YOU HAVE REACHED THE POINT OF DESPERATION AND FEEL LIKE YOU MUST CALL HIM FOR A JOB, get everything in writing!!! Never let him tell you to leave your car someplace with the keys still in it. When you pay him, pay with a card, so if/when he screws it up, you can tell your bank to retract the payment. Ken might be good for things like charging your battery or fixing your alternator belt (the basics), but more complex things that require careful work, please save yourself the money and stress and find a real mechanic. read more

Mobile Auto Repair really bailed me and a few friends out last weekend. While on a roadtrip to Austin our car broke down. We had no idea what to do and since it was Sunday all auto shops in the area were closed. Mobile Auto Repair was able to diagnose the problem and provide a same-day solution, which helped us get back in time for the workweek. Amazing service, very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Cheapest in the city, but you get what you pay for. Put the wrong guage/size/part on my car and the mechanic I took it to for a follow up threw it away and laughed at me while replacing it with the proper part. Complete waste of money, do not spend your budget here. read more
