Second time in Mobjack tavern this past July 3rd when my mother paid a visit from Tennessee. We live in Gloucester- just not locals. The first visit wasn't bad at all- oysters were very clean -and I had pizza that time and remembered the crust being pretty good. We were exhausted from a day boating on the Mattaponi with teenagers- so we decided to eat out. Wanted to take her to a nicer spot but not drive far. (Sigh) We walked in to a half empty dining area to be told 15-20 minutes wait. Perhaps someone took vacation or was off sick- but that sort of wait with a dining room (the area by the door) empty is really unprofessional. I saw 3-4 waitstaff tending to the remaining 10 tables or so of families. ‍ Anyway. After the wait we were seated. It was stifling hot in there. We decided to get pizza since the heat made us want to just order simple and go. We each ordered a pizza from the pre-named/ pre-toppings chosen part of the menu. (These pies are $9 for an 8" which is a good deal). Except my mother simply wanted to remove the artichokes from her choice (it's the Berkley I think. It has like 10 different toppings- no protein) and add spinach. The waitress said no we don't substitute toppings, you have to make your own and pay for the toppings but it could be the same thing- we just can't change those. So I said ok- thinking it wouldn't be that big of a difference since make your own starts at $7. We realized it came with spinach already so basically she just wanted the artichokes removed from the Berkley. So instead we paid WAIT FOR IT. WAIIIT. WAIT. $16 for a pizza to get ONE LESS ITEM than listed at $9- not extra items. Ridiculous. Nearly double the cost to get one item removed- and to be made to think it was just as easy to do it that way. Taking this approach to customer service lost a few return customers that day. read more

Went for anniversary dinner. Waitress screwed up my meal and my daughters meal. I ordered fried oysters and was brought fried scallops(only 6) And my sides were wrong. My daughter ordered sea food platter which was very small piece of haddock 3 shrimp and 3 scallops for $26 - ridiculous prices way to high . They took my meal off- which I didn't eat. We had no mixed drinks only tea and coke and bill was still $74 with the comped meal taken off. This place is way too expensive and they don't give you any food read more

We made reservations for Easter at 39.99 a person for buffet. Our reservation was at 2:30. We were served from the buffet very small portions and a sliver of prime rib. Returning to the buffet we were informed that the prime rib was gone they had already caved three prior and wasn't offering more. That wasn't our only disappointment. We were offered a bowl of leavings leftovers scraps in juice to accommodate us. We had reservations for four people that day my husband and I our son and granddaughter who is 7. You know she ate 39.99 Our son wasn't feeling well heVibha4-muvpoz-tycfuj hardly eat but that wasn't their fault and we intended to pay full price for all of us. After they rudely denied us prime rib the manager offered my husband and I 15% discount. But full price for my son and child. Looking at the bill we had been charged 20% gratuity on top of the bill. We all had good meals. We had the prime rib, blackened shrimp, chicken wings appetizer and all were very good. Our friends liked the oysters and the very reasonable price. The beer was good and enough of a choice all of us were able to find one on the list that we really liked. The young waiter was very good. The service was excellent. We have went to Mobjack Tavern several times. We always sit at the bar for quick sevice. However, they have moved arcade games into the bar area. It's hard to have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you because of the noise of the games and kids. read more

Went to celebrate a birthday with 6 people. We all had burgers, ordered 2 beers and 3 iced teas. Bill came to $135.00. Way overpriced for the mediocre food that we were served! Plus we had an issue when one of the folks asked for bbq sauce for their burger. It was awful! When he sent the burger back into the kitchen, it was returned, with the bbq sauce still on it and was told that it was their 'special' homemade sauce and he had ordered it. The burger was not eatable, they would not make him a new one and they did not take it off the bill. Will never go back and want as many people as possible to know how bad this place is. If you want a beer, then go, but if you want good food at a reasonable price and good customer service, then stay as far away as possible. read more

To start had to send the butter back that came with the cornbread because it was bad. Burger tasted bad, steamed shrimp must have been microwaved more than once and scallops weren't cooked thoroughly. Appears all food is reheated, nothing fresh. And it shows. read more

Updated: Thank you for you response and you response shows the type of establishment and management you are. First: I contacted the restaurant to check the wait time. There was not a wait time for outside but a 30 mins for inside which is not realistic because there were maybe 5 tables seated so that is not justified. I was at Gloucester Point when calling so I gave my name and number and said we would be there shortly. So there was no being impatient to it. Second: you have been opened through out the pandemic so one would think that you and your employees would have cooking and waiting on customer down to a science. DO NOT use the pandemic as an excuse. It's obvious by the lack of customers you had, this is the reason other restaurants have better business than you. I know when I arrived and I know when I left. I have a copy of my receipt that you would not give to my other party and I told Brad I would pay for the food that was eaten AND gave him (you) a 5.00 tip so let's be honest. Unfortunately leaving was not soon enough due to the lack of taste of food. Brad must be the owner/manager because I've never heard of a customer asking for a manager and one not showing up to the table by request. Poor management by any means as Brad said there was one not available. Anytime there is a complaint TRUE management or ownership always comes out to try speak to the customer. First post: I reserved our seats for 2 and was seated promptly. Ordered crab dip that came with tortillas chips and regular white bread wedges. The tortilla chips were stuck together and stale and the bread wedges (4) were burnt on the bottom. A party of 7 arrived and placed their order after we had. They received their order before us, ate and left and we still had not received ours. We sat for over an hour and 15 mins....still no food. Hello. Just wanted to update you. The experience didn't warrant a manager because WE ARE IN A PANDEMIC, and you're clearly just impatient and unkind. You made a "reservation" 15 minutes ahead of time. That is NOT a reservation, that's calling ahead. We did however, seat you right away, regardless of your inconsiderate attempt to "call ahead" to just jump ahead of people who had been here waiting for a table politely. I saw your ticket time, for your food. I have a copy of it, if you would like to see it. You were here for ONE hour start to finish. You also could not get into other restaurants, because once again, let me remind you, ITS OUR SECOND DAY RE- OPENING IN PHASE 2. THE WAIT TIMES AT MOST LOCAL RESTAURANTS IS OVER AN HOUR. You can check our Google page, in case you need a reminder, we have clearly stated there are longer than usual wait times, and if you are UNABLE TO BE PATIENT AND KIND, your attitude will NOT be tolerated. Thanks for leaving, as soon as you were told your food was coming right out. YES, you are required to pay for the food you ordered and ate. Food at this establishment is NOT free, and prices are labeled on our hand written menu. We stand behind our employees who have been struggling and working through this entire shut down. NO, I will not entertain THE TERRIBLE ATTITUDES of people who seemingly come in with unrealistic expectations that we are functioning business as usual... AS IT IS CLEARLY NOT. read more

My dad took me here for my birthday dinner and we were really excited to try it out. We've heard great things but we were very disappointed. We were seated immediately (it was very slow when we got there) and our waitress got our drinks and order almost immediately. However all of our food took extremely long. We got one appetizer which took about 20 minutes. And our entrees took OVER AN HOUR. We ended up just getting them to go. Only to come home and see that my pizza was burnt to a crisp. Also our waitress (Victoria) was very friendly but seemed to be putting all the other tables over us priority wise. Also. We were the first table to order food and the last table to get our food. A table that got to the restaurant about a half an hour after us had their food come out at the same time as us and she delivered their food BEFORE OURS, even though we were sitting right next to the door and they were on the other side of the seating area. Got pizza here recently. It tastes ok. They are very generous with toppings and the crust was good. The sauce however was minimal (almost none) and very bland - there's no flavor to it whatsoever. More like eating cheese bread. Even the mozzarella itself was bland - usually I love eating the cheese as it falls off and this just didn't interest me. It's expensive for what you get. I haven't tried the rest of the menu so I can't speak to their other food, but for the price and lack of flavor I doubt I'd get the pizza again. Disappointing since I've heard such good things about Southwinds pizza for several years. read more

Excellent service, very good food went the 1st week open and got no service fir over 20 min after seated, I called some with a manager and was asked to try again, so glad I did, had prime rib was excellent, manager was walking around asking people how our ward and if anything could be done to make a better experience, ....not fir me or was already great! read more

Terrible experience on what would have been our first time trying. We were very excited to try a new local venue but I seriously doubt we'll make another attempt after being treated the way we were. When we arrived first thing I asked was how long the wait would be for a party of three (one of them being a child). I was told it would be a 20-25 min long wait. Not a terribly long wait; therefore, I put our name down. After a 30 minute wait and seeing a half dozen empty tables, I decided to check on our status only to again be told it would be another 20 min wait. I was obviously annoyed seeing as that's now more than twice the length of time I was told initially. I asked why the long wait when there are so many open tables and the staff member reply was, "honestly, it's just that we don't have enough menus" which is absurd to me, especially since just about everyone I saw waiting had looked at the menu at least once (including us). With a very hungry kid, we just couldn't wait what was now estimating as an hour wait before being seated, let alone actually ordering and eating. When speaking to the manager (whose name I can't remember) about our experience, despite getting an apology, it was the most empty feeling one I had ever received. While I was trying to explain myself she just had the most condescending and un-empathetic smirk on her face and quite frankly felt patronizing. All she would do is repeat her same standard lines but wasn't actually hearing me out. When I expressed to her that she wasn't letting me get my point across, she really had no interest in hearing anything I had to say and kept interjecting and cutting me off at which point I got extremely upset and stormed out having never been treated like that by a so-called-manager before. Had I been told from the get-go that the wait was going to be an hour or more, I simply would have said "thanks, but maybe another day" and had gone on my merry way but this whole experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I've never been moved to write a review before, but I'm genuinely irritated by the whole ordeal. I would love the opportunity to discuss this with the owner if possible. read more

We were not impressed. We'd had friends rave about their brisket nachos, but my husband and I found them to be nothing special. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich that had no buffalo sauce on it at all. He also said his beer was just okay. I like the concept of the place, but it's just poorly executed. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch at the restaurant bar, pizza and the grilled Caesar, but please take the arcade machines out or move them to the restaurant area. Listening to toddlers wail over not getting a prize jarred an enjoyable meal. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. We had never been in the restaurant. I ordered a personal pan pizza. The manager waited on us. I asked her what could I choose to put on my pizza. I am a vegetarian She said any of the vegetables. I said any of this and she said yes. Never mentioning that there was an extra charge. When I went to check out. I notice that several extra charges were added to my check. She said it was the toppings. I explained to her that I was under the understanding that I could choose my toppings. She said obviously it was written on the menu. I felt so embarrassed I said I did not see it. She said it was right there. She was very rude. At first I didn't realize that she was the manager and asked to speak to the manager. I was so shocked to find out that the manager would belittle customers like she was doing. She asked what would you have me to do. I said give me the price I thought I was getting. She did get it to me but not without making me feeling really bad. I asked for the owner's name. He called on the phone at that moment. He did say he was sorry. While I was speaking to him she was still arguing with my husband. My husband told her she was being rude. She said it didn't matter because we were not coming back anyway. Gloucester is an amazing town! I am use to great customer service. I have never experience anything in my life. I am getting up in years. I will not go back into their restaurant. I hope no one else has to experience what I did today. read more

We stopped in here for lunch thinking it looked like a place to maybe grab a burger, my fault for not checking the menu I guess. I read prior reviews that mentioned burgers but none were to be found on the menu, maybe it changes day to day? The menu we did get was shocking; There was hardly anything for less than $17 and none of it sounded like lunch, so we settled with pizzas since it was reasonably priced, and I ordered the nachos as a meal since it was one of the only other things less than $17. The waitress brought us our drinks and took our orders, and that was the last time we saw her until it was time for the check. We never even saw her to flag her down and it's not like the place was busy, we were one of maybe 4 total tables. After about 30 minutes, long after I finished my glass of water, two of the meals came out but I had to sit and wait because my meal didn't come out for another 10 minutes. We ate the meals with nothing to drink. I must say the pizza was good but the nachos were disappointing. I was expecting something along the lines of County Grill nachos but I got something more like you'd throw together at home. The waitress finally came over and apologized for "ignoring us" and set the check down. She asked if I'd like a refill of my drink to which I said yes. 10 minutes later she came back to swipe my credit card and there was no drink to be found so I just paid and left. I'll probably never go back at least to the restaurant side. I've heard good things about the brewery that is attached and wouldn't mind having some more of that pizza which I believe you can order from the brewery side, but there's no way I'm risking service like that again. I've only ever had service this bad one other time in my life. I left the place regretting I didn't just stop at Anna's to be honest, I could have probably saved $20 and I wouldn't have walked out feeling cheated. read more

I was unsure how to rate this because I'm conflicted. The service was ok. The waitress didn't seem to know any answers we had about menu items. We opened our menus and I was happy to see a beer menu for 'that damn mary' brewery (business attached to Mobjack Tavern). I asked for one of the beers and the waitress told us that we couldn't order the beer at the table, that we'd have to get up and go to the brewery to order it and we could bring it back to the table and drink it. That threw us off a bit because why would they put it in the menu if it couldn't be ordered in the restaurant? The whole table was disappointed but we weren't about to all get up and go get our beer and come back. We ended up ordering a regular draft beer. It doesn't make sense because if you go to 'that damn marys' you order food from Mobjack but can't order beer at Mobjack from the brewery. Just confusing. The clam chowder was really good. I highly recommend it. The nachos were good as well. Plenty to share with a group. I'll definitely go back but next time I'll go the brewery and order food from Mobjack I guess. read more
