Stopped at Moby Dick's after a day in P-town around early dinner time on a wet Saturday afternoon. No wait, easy parking spot and plenty of tables open - lots of staff to help with cleaning tables, getting water, etc. Family of four split a bacon blue salad - iceberg wedge, bacon bits and blue cheese dressing; a warm lobster roll with melted butter and a Moby's Fried Seafood Special (whole bellies, strip, scallops, cod and fries) - all came with slaw. Picnic style seating inside, fortunately not very hot, or maybe ceiling fans to keep us cool. Food was fresh and nicely cooked. Manager came around to check on the dinner and I noted how all the staff had name tags mentioning where they were from - sort of like Disney World. Pretty basic seafood shanty menu, but the items were fresh, hot and tasty - not too much breading. We would have liked to try the chowder, but a hot July afternoon is not the place for such a bowl. read more

Ordered takeout and waited for over an hour in the parking lot to pick up the order. The manager walked back and forth in front of us multiple times seemingly annoyed that we were still in the parking lot. When we finally got our food, our chowder was cold (???) and the server said "oh i'm sorry. did you want it hot?" Generally when one orders soup they would like it hot. We were not even offered a refund. Save your time and don't order takeout from here. read more

Eateries in the Cape always have the weirdest ordering process. You walk in, wait in a long line, stare at a giant board & awkwardly tilt your head to read all the options. You sit down to have your food delivered & it comes out piping hot and delicious. The grilled scallops and shrimp were the way to go, something delightful was smothered about them. Top it off with crab cakes and clams and our party of three was no longer hangry. Amazing local restaurant that's probably overlooked. The owner is super nice and it's conveniently located off route 6. The food was very fresh and tasted great. Went there for both eat-in and take-out. The line was okay (30 minutes) during the Labor Day weekend but we got there before 6 pm. We found that the fried dishes were best eating at the restaurant - and not good for taken-away. The broiled and the grilled items were fantastic even when we have them as take-outs. The Spanish Onion Rings dish was excellent but very greasy. Avoid the key lime pie as it was overpriced and only average. It was a good place for a family meal but I did not think that it would worth the 1 hour wait - like some of the Yelp reviewers indicated. read more

Monday afternoon 3:00. Mobeys is a nice place but i had a few issues that will likely prevent us from going back. The fish sandwich was good but for $13 you'd think it would come with fries or a pickle maybe chips? The $6 griled cheese had fries. The $7 chocolate shake was surprisingly not large. 3 sandwiches 2 Pepsi and 1 shake ran me $47+. Plenty of parking though. Clean. You have to place your order yourself then wait at a table. Oh ya friggin paper straws that suck or should i say they don't suck because the swell when wet. Im sure plenty of ppl like it there and im not knocking down the place just not for us. read more

My family came up for a visit and they said this was there favorite seafood place we ate at. Best lobster we had by far and my aunt ordered it at nearly every restaurant. The wait staff was very friendly and always refilling our drinks. You order and pay at the register prior to sitting down. I got the fish and chips which was very good only lightly battered there was a huge piece of fish the chips were just okay. I would also highly recommend the onion blossom it was the best I've ever had and the dipping sauce topped it. The oysters with pesto was also a great appetizer. My mom got the scallops and shrimp which were grilled and lightly seasoned and well cooked. Oh and the lemonade freeze was good I just wish it was a bit more tart. read more

We stopped for lunch. I ordered the lobster roll with melted butter and a Cape Cod Salad. Was expensive but good. The service was very good considering I spilled my butter and they were very helpful to clean it up and give me another. Nice people. It's a cafeteria type place. You order up front and then sit, they bring the food to you. The eating area is on a screened in porch, which I liked. I imagine on a rainy day it would not be so great. I'm visiting from New York and when I'm in New England, I have to have lobster. I've had a few lobster rolls during this visit and they've all been good, but the one from Moby Dick's was the best by far. Big delicious chunks of seasoned lobster meat busting out of a soft roll. Delicious! I'm not a big fan of french fries, but theirs were good. Even the coleslaw was great, and I usually don't eat coleslaw. I can't forget to mention the key lime pie, which was sooooo good! (Extra points for not using food coloring to make it unnaturally green). I also really liked the fact that all the servers were from other countries (their name tags say where they're from). I loved listening to all the accents! I plan on coming back to Cape Cod and I'll definitely be visiting Moby Dick's again! read more

I ordered grilled fish.. overcooked and nothing worth remembering Lobster is at $30 a pop so we skipped that. So nothing left on the menu. Tried Moby Dicks last night. A unique and interesting dining experience. I was torn between the lobster roll and the grilled crab cakes, I loved the crab cakes! The sauce was simple, yet went perfectly with the crab. The french fries were also great, not greasy, just crisp and hot, the way they are supposed to be. My wife had the fish and chips, and a root beer float, she thoroughly enjoyed it all. We also bought 2 cool mugs. read more

Had dinner here with family in mid-September. The place came with a high recommendation, but didn't really live up to the hype. The food was good overall, but pretty pricey. I know everyone has their own take on lobster rolls but....lobster and a slice of lettuce in a bun just doesn't do it for me. Call me weird, but I like a little mayo to hold the meat together and help slide things down. The "touristy" factor of Moby's was solidified by the checkerboard table cloths on picnic tables, and staff sporting nametags that indicate where in the world everyone was from. We drove by en route to Provincetown. The parking lot was full so we wrote down the name and looked it up. The reviews looked so good we canceled our reservation in Provincetown and ate here on the way home instead. Everything was excellent and the owner even stopped by at 845pm to see how we were doing and if we needed anything on a Saturday night. Will come again! read more

The ONLY redeeming qualities earning the two stars are the seafood itself and the service. We got the seafood platter to share. In CT, its VERY hard to finish a fried seafood platter. The one here costs $35 and easily only feeds one--ridiculously small portion. Now the frying, completely rushed and poorly executed. I get you're cranking out a ton but that is zero excuse for what we got served. The tiny piece of fish couldn't be moved off the plate without falling apart in a greasy mess. The scallops had no fried quality but rather a greased logged mushy coating, also sitting in grease. The clams were crispy somehow? Lobster bisque was pretty good and the seafood gumbo was also pretty tasty but not very hot. Too much competition to do this poorly. You have your line/ordering and service down pat, now work on the real issue: fried food execution! read more

I'd say it's slightly better than the average Cape Cod fried seafood fare, but what's truly impressive is their organizational structure, which I detail in the next paragraph. I had the Cape Cod salad, which was fresh and delicious. I had the tuna sandwich as my entree and found it somewhat lacking in flavor. My wife ordered a dozen oysters and clam chowder, which dutifully tasted like oysters and chowder. She then had the fried clams, which were fried perfectly and had loads of ocean-y goodness. But, as I note below, this place could serve below-average food and it would still be one of the more impressive restaurants on Cape Cod. This place is obviously an institution, and that's well-deserved. The most impressive aspect of Moby Dick's is their operation. From the moment you enter the line, which is usually significant, you enter their system, which means that by the time you go inside and order, they already have a table set up for you. Once you've been seated, your apps come with haste and your entrees arrive not long after you've finished said apps, much like in a restaurant whose outer appearance seems more upscale. Their attention to organizational detail extends all the way to their plates and bowls, which are compostable. As my wife pointed out, their dishwashing staff is probably slim to non-existant, allowing them to double up on attentive, professional servers from all over the world (our servers hailed from Virginia/USA, Serbia, South Africa, England, and Lithuania). read more

We've been coming here for 25 years. Still a Cape Cod must. Lines can be long during prime hours but the staff is very efficient and you never feel like you're waiting. BYOB....no corking fees. I forgot how great it is, and even better without the dinner lines. The bass was in season and super fresh, so I got that. Amazing. First timers down for the week (mrs. and I) as I work here during summer as an entertainer at a different establishment so i welcome a new experience and we were blown away.....just get a dozen oysters, I made the mistake of getting a half dozen, would've saved a few bucks,...steamers killing, Mrs. fish, salmon was incredible and it was BYOB for her wine so you can go as upscale as you want and it won't cost $$$$$$$, tip, the liquor store next to cumberland farms a mile up the street has AWESOME prices, the best on the lower cape, even though its a small place. I've been coming to Moby Dick's for 25 years, also known as my entire life. It is likely my favorite restaurant, and without a doubt my favorite seafood restaurant (including Le Bernardin). From the cheerful staff to the kitschy (but not tacky) decor to the low-key jazz that's always playing to Todd & Mignon themselves, the Moby Dick's experience is proof that great service is not limited to fancy restaurants. I feel like actual family here. The other night, the back of house manager came out and introduced himself to my family. "I've been seeing your orders for years, so it's nice to put a face to the ticket." Yeah, we're regulars, but I'm a regular at a bunch of places, and no one makes that kind of effort. It's one of the only places that the staff makes an effort to actually interact with my brother, who is on the autism spectrum. But the important stuff -- the food! The seafood is simple but excellently done. The fried food (which I can no longer eat due to an allergy, but I have a good 15 years of experience eating it regardless) is the lightest and most honest preparation I've had. The sweetness of the scallops are complemented by the batter, never masked. And the grilled options are just as transcendent, with a hint of smoky char that I can't find anywhere else. Broiled cod is flakey and well-seasoned with a hint of butter, grilled tuna melts in your mouth, and the clam chowder is the standard to which I hold all other chowders (thick, rich, strong clam flavor but not overpoweringly clammy). I tend to rotate through the same options: as a kid, the fried shrimp & rice (no longer on the menu I think); fried clams and scallops as a teen; and salads with grilled scallops or tuna steak now. When I do branch out, I'm never disappointed, but I could never tire of eating the exact same thing at Moby's. It's just so damn good, and it tastes like home. read more

This is a very odd restaurant/ they won't seat you until you have your order ready and you stand in a line outside until your turn to place your order. After your order is placed and paid for, you are seated. The food comes out on paper plates and bowls. Skip the lobster bisque/ it was the worst on cape cod. This spot is great! Place an order at the counter then choose your seat- in or outdoors. The tables are cleaned after each use and they're in the shade or the sun. The food is good, clam strips are probably the best I've ever had and while the lobster rolls are only served cold, they will provide you with hot butter if you want and that is also very good. Frozen lemonades are amazing, would definitely recommend and portions are good sizes. This place is BYOB as well, so you can really do as you wish with the menu. They have indoor and outdoor facilities, outdoor port-a-potties are extremely clean, with running water and flushing toilets. Overall very good. Would definitely come again! read more

Four stars for the efficiency of this bustling, ever popular Wellfleet seafood restaurant. Come for the convival atmosphere, the friendly young staff from all parts of the world, and surprisingly clean and cozy digs. Three stars for the food. Grilled seafood skewers over rice pilaf was a super option but more proof of grill would have been nice. Oysters fell just short of perfect because not every one was shelled adequately. Mostly, I wish the tail of my lobster in the clam bake was softer. read more

Heard about Moby Dick's via my companion's friend in New Hampshire. Since we were staying in Hyannis/Barnstable for Independence Day and heading over to Provincetown for a day-trip, it was the perfect opportunity to stop-by since it's along Route 6 on the left. It was about 4 pm, July the 4th, 2018 when we'd arrived (11 days before writing this review). There were some customers but it wasn't overly busy at that time. I'd noticed licence plates from all over (e.g. Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Quebec), so that was a good sign. When you enter the establishment, the ocean-themed decor puts you in the mood to eat seafood! Lots of wood, naval/fisherman memorabilia lining the walls make your eyes wander in awe. Friendly staff greeted us with festive beads and explained how it works, from perusing the chalkboards above or reading the large menus, to paying at the counter and being seated. There are different sections and they all look great. Oh, and it's BYOB if you crave some with your meal. Service was courteous and very efficient! Perhaps it was because it wasn't busy at time, but I have a feeling the work ethic is good regardless because different staff would check-in for refills and take away used plates, etc. I'd ordered iced tea. It seems to be an American thing to be able to order it unsweetened. Which is actually a good thing because, here in Canada, it's typically pre-sweetened which I find to be too sweet for my liking. First came the Cape Cod Clam 'Chowda'. Maybe I don't get out much, but I rank it as one of, if not, THE best chowder I've had in my life! My only regret is that I should've ordered the larger bowl instead of the cup. Hey, live & learn! Next came the Crispy Fried Calamari. Can't say much other than it was deelish! Dang, I crave it right now! Then came the Moby Dick's Lobster Roll Platter. It did not disappoint! Succulent, hearty lobster meat in a soft roll complemented with crispy fries and creamy coleslaw (my favourite; not into vinegary coleslaw). Life is good! We'd gone in for a light, snackish pre-supper meal and came out stuffed! Our server asked if we'd wanted dessert. I did, but my stomach said no. Man, I wish I had room for their Key Lime pie. Oh well, suck it up, buttercup! On the way out, I picked up some souvenirs: a greenish t-shirt (~$20) and a navy blue coffee mug (~$11) from which I now drink tea out of everyday at work here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Didn't really take pics, sorry. Blame the vibrant atmosphere and the delicious seafood. Outside, we'd tried to take some pics. Whom I assume is one of the family/owners came out and offered to take a couple of pics for us. As well, he gave us a great tip on an alternative, more scenic route to Provincetown from there at Wellfleet. What service, what a guy! Many thanks to him. And he liked my American flag shorts (btw, 60% off at JC Penney from $40 down to $16. Score!) We were fortunate that we went when we did because, as we were leaving, there was a lllooonnnggg line formed outside to get in! I'd read that it gets packed, so we were very lucky! The place was visually pleasing. The staff was pleasant and made the experience a fantastic one. Overall, we had a wonderful time! Just wish we could've tried everything on the menu. What a delightful surprise. I just cannot say enough good things about this place. We were greeted by the owner, Todd, as soon as we walked in. He walked us through the process and the menu, and made recommendations. My husband and I live away now but we're both Massachusetts natives and suffice it to say, we're accustomed to the brusque New England way of doing things--especially when it comes to seafood in touristy areas. I've truly never had an experience like this, where low-hanging fruit (seafood on a thruway) and a captive audience didn't include mediocre service and an attitude. The service was seriously five star, and the food was fantastic. The oysters and bisque were lovely. The Cape Cod salad with added shrimp was far beyond my expectations. Salads at places like this are usually an afterthought. My husband ordered a scallop roll (brought in fresh every day, per Todd) with broccoli and slaw (we needed SOME green things after a weekend of indulging), but it showed up without a roll. Todd personally delivered our food and my husband mentioned he was missing the roll. Todd went and got him a freshly toasted one AND came back with a handful of cash, saying we were overcharged because he asked for the roll and was charged for the plate. It was above and beyond. Other servers were friendly and efficient, and other tables got visits from Todd just as we did. He said this is their 35th summer and I can see why they do so well! Todd made awesome recommendations for P-town, and went out of his way to make sure we were happy. I am truly impressed and cannot recommend Moby Dick's enough! read more

For a place that has no seashore atmosphere and is away from the Provincetown commercial district you'd think that the food would be special and maybe a bit cheaper. No and No. Chowder was a bit thin and nothing special. Fried clam bellies not too fresh and Steamed lobster a tad overcooked and not fresh and sweet. The ordering and table service system is good and staff is friendly and helpful. But from now on, when in or near Ptown, I'm sticking with the places at the harbor unless I'm in the mood for Italian. So in visiting my sister in Chatham we wanted to head down to Welfleet to eat. Stoped at Moby's after yelping and boy were we glad we did !!! First hands down the best sweetest steamers ever !!!! The scallops were so sweet and fresh you needed nothing on them. Our service was a 12 out of ten they could not of been nicer The owner came and chatted with us and even gave us a piece of yummy key lime pie. We had the onion appetizer fabulous fried clams and fish and chips. Everything was outstanding. So much so we are grabbing a bottle of wine and heading back tonight.
