Met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends at the newly rebranded/reopened Taborhood Cafe, which turned out to be the absolutely perfect place to reconnect. Bright, sunny, open, and airy, with gentle piano-driven cool jazz making the ideal soundtrack for a late July reunion. Both food and coffee were extraordinary! I had possibly the best roast beef sandwich of my life, stacked 6" high on toasted sourdough bread and loaded up with pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, onions, red peppers, and stone-ground mustard. Coffee was from Marigold, a local woman-owned coffee roaster down on Hawthorne. Absolutely cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Checked out this cute little place on a Thursday morning with a friend. I had a cardamom latte and then a London fog (we stayed for several hours. I also had the olive and feta croissant and a cinnamon roll. All were so delicious with the cinnamon roll being just ok! The prices were reasonable and the service was great. Both staff members were friendly and attentive. They even offered us soft serve ice cream samples. I never say no to ice cream and it was delicious! Will definitely be back! Even did some tarot reading with my friend and some crafting. The overall vibe was chill and comfortable. read more

Excellent coffee. They won't let you pour your own creamer in your coffee which I hate but I can deal with it. Danishes were excellent. I mixed up "quiche" and "frittata" so ended up getting the opposite of what I wanted but that's on me! Lovely place read more

The ambiance is super cool as it used to be an old Fire Station back when they had horse drawn steam pump engines! The horses lived on the very floor you sit and enjoy your food and drinks on! This is my favorite neighborhood coffee shop, where the cheerful and welcoming owner Michael is showcasing the special valentine's day cookies he made. He uses white chocolate frosting, yum. Michael and his staff work hard to know the regulars, which I appreciate. The various drinks are solid, as are the food options. So glad i finally got to stop in. Im always in the area and always seem to miss them by an hour or two. First of all the baristas are all sooooo kind and let me try a few different samples of their baked goods. The muffins r so yummy + they had a sort of coconut choco coated thing that was soooo good. Tasted like an almond joy w/o the almond. The sandwich I got was sooo fresh and tasty same w the latte. All the baristas seemed to be having a good time working which is always cool to see. Stark Street Station is a reliable, friendly cafe in a mostly residential part of town. The coffee is good, and they serve up some amazing build-your-own sandwiches with fresh, homemade ingredients. It's a great place to meet up with several friends for lunch, or to avoid the chaos of some of the busier cafes in town. I've never had any major issues finding parking in the neighborhood, although you might have to circle the block once or twice. They have dishes outside for dogs, as well as outdoor seating for those pleasant summer afternoons. The historic buildings on this block are a wonderful asset to the neighborhood. The former Station 19 Firehouse was relocated in 1953, but the building still has lots of unique charm. If you wander around you'll find several plaques with historical information. read more

A beautiful space with appreciated very nice comfortable seating, but unfortunately the rest of my experience there was just okay/mediocre - to the level where for me, honestly I might have been better off staying at home. As at least one other reviewer I saw here noted, the coffee was kind of shockingly weak and disappointing. My 20oz latte was almost all milk and I have never before had to fight so hard to try to identify any hint of actual coffee at all in it (and I thought this was a coffee house?!). Perhaps the counter kid was new and made an error? The baked goods did look exceptionally delicious but the bagel I got was, I think, microwaved as it was warm and very chewy, not toasted as I was expecting, and an unusual critique here for me - actually too much cream cheese rather than too little....gobs and gobs of cream cheese!? It was tasty enough and I scraped off the excess slathered layers where there was so much cream cheese and ate it all, but I could only get about halfway through my cup of warm milk, aka, "latte" before it became unpleasant and I threw the rest out. Also as other posters noted, the clientele seemed to be mostly senior citizens, maybe from the church across the street and they seemed to enjoy the place so maybe that is their business model and it works for them. read more

I've been going here regularly for over five years and the place just keeps improving. The outside seating area is abundant and removed enough from the road so that you don't feel subsumed by traffic. Plus it's dog-friendly. The inside has a nice vibe with lots of seating and just added a comfy chair and loveseat. I've spent hours here working on my laptop and it's always pleasant. The owner and his staff are friendly and make a wonderful hemp latte. The bagels are great and they always have a vegetarian quiche option. I'm a customer for life. read more

Extremely basic sandwiches. The guy taking our order was hella argumentative with my foreign mother who is not the best with communication.

I've been here several times out of location convenance and it leaves a lot to be desired. It reminds me of cafes from the 2000's, before things were nice. The food overall is subpar. The pastries are overly sweet and nothing special, the quiches are decent and the rest is just cheap Costco stuff. They use a microwave to heat items. The water dispenser takes the prize for the WORST one I've ever ever seen. It's a tube connected to a sanitizer dispenser. There is no way this thing is compliant with the Oregon Health Authority. The ambiance is sad. From the hand written restaurant name and offerings on the canvas awning, to the disgusting black floors, to the fake flowers outside and the bathroom with a wall ripped open, I'm not sure how this place is in business. The staff are nice enough, probably the only good-ish thing about this place. Oh yeah and there are NO PRICES listed anywhere for the food items sold. How uncomfortable?! The clientele is all old folks who probably don't realize how much better things have gotten in the world of cafes over the decades. Unless you're in a pinch, just spare yourself and go somewhere else. read more

We got the most amazing sandwich and wrap here. The space is absolutely adorable in the most understated way. The planters w/ vegetables growing around the patio outside create a kind of PNW secret garden feel. Owners take great pride in their business and it shows. One of the owners is a customer at my place of work and is always kind and patient. He treats those serving him and those he serves with genuine kindness and that deserves to be commended. read more

Chill hangout space with super friendly staff. I'd give this place at least four stars but for two issues: First, their espresso drinks are kinda weak/wimpy. You shouldn't have to order a double just to taste the coffee. Second, no Wi-Fi. Huh? This is clearly a conscious choice. Fair enough, but it's also a seriously questionable one to make in this era, and one that especially rankles since the interior of the restaurant is a data deadzone (at least for my carrier it was; I get zero reception inside). If I'm going to pay $4 for a mediocre 12oz cup of drip coffee the least they could do is allow me to flavor it myself. This is a simple little cafe where you come grab coffee and have a light lunch. The staff is nice and friendly and the ambiance is decent. It was a beautiful day that day and we opted to sit outside. I ordered a Chicken Cesar Salad and Ice Tea. The salad was actually pretty good. With every bite there was a piece of chicken, which is nice to see as to other cafes there isn't much protein given. The ice tea, is ice tea. Overall, this place is decent. The food is decent, nothing too special about. The parking is very inconvenient due to the street location it faces. read more

It was my first time ever going here and I loved the ham and Swiss quiche. The crust was flaky and buttery and it just had so much flavour! The salad and dressing was even good and normally i don't care for tomatoes or balsamic. Definitely go here for a pastry or a delicious quiche. read more

Last time we were here we had a bad experience. It's been a while, do we tried to give it another try. I am glad we did. This is the kind of coffee shop I would open if I were opening one. My fiance and I have been coming here several times a week all year long for our morning coffees. The young barista who is usually behind the counter provides the best service, always greeting us warmly. He wasn't there today. Instead, the older person working the station today was presumed to be the owner or manager. What isn't questionable is his rude and passive-aggressive demeanor. There was a couple at the counter, deciding amongst themselves what to choose. My fiance stepped up to the counter to request her usual, unaware there was a customer ahead. There was no indication of a line. Instead of a discrete, respectful comment to alert her these people were ahead, he rudely blurted, "Are you cutting here?" She apologized, stating she wasn't aware they were waiting to be serviced. Instead of accepting that, this boor turned to the couple ahead and rudely said, "We don't do cuts here." This condescending and unprofessional lack of customer respect and service prompts this one star rating, with a vow to never visit or recommend this poor excuse for a business. read more

Chicken salad is not made on site, and they could not tell me what was in it! booo.
