I don't remember exactly what the employee said, either they don't have a restroom or it wasn't working, but then he said I could use the Subway next door. These days, many businesses require you to buy something before using the restroom, so I'd rather just go there instead. There was nobody else in the shop, and the employee wasn't very welcoming. Maybe he's just introverted, but the customer service felt cold. I ordered the Coconut Taro Smoothie. The coconut is the base of the drink, and the purple lining you see in the cup is the taro spread. Once it's mixed together, the flavor is actually pretty good. It's a different way of making a taro smoothie, and I thought it was pretty good. My only complaint was the lack of a restroom and the customer service.

I bought a cinnamon roll that I ate bit by bit on the way home. It tasted more like a glazed donut than a cinnamon roll, but it was super soft, very sweet and was devoured. I wished I'd ordered a few more of those. They also had a crumb donut I didn't order but later wished I had. I did order a couple of cronuts, which I usually like but these didn't do it for me. I'm not sure I could elaborate other than saying taste and texture weren't for me. I also ordered a chocolate frosted cake donut that was solid, and ordered the one glazed donut they had left and the one sugar donut they had left. I didn't try them but none of the kids or their friends had any complaints. The place was nice, clean, and the service was friendly. I'd definitely try them again. Their round raised donuts I noticed were not entirely round, but had some angles to them almost like they might be cut with some element of a hexagon in them. Perhaps a signature? Chef Metin is super nice!…read more We needed a cake for my husband's birthday and I wanted to get something a little more unique than a Costco cake. Looked on Yelp and saw Northstar's 5 star reviews and figured this would be a good opportunity to check it out. Great communication--Chef is fast at replying and he's super friendly in his emails. You can tell he is a happy and caring guy just based on his written responses. He also offers delivery for a small charge. I think we paid $20 which was worth it so I didn't have to worry about picking up a cake amidst a very busy schedule. Our cake was priced at $4-5/slice. Not cheap but it was reasonable. We got one mango and one strawberry. I sent photos of the theme we were going for, which was a Hawaiian theme. I wanted the cakes to look like a Hawaiian shirt. On the day of the event, Chef Metin delivered the cakes with a smile. I learned he used to be in the tech industry (I think he was a software engineer?) but now he does baking full time, which started out as a hobby. How fun! The cakes tasted great. We even had a few guests asking where we got them, to which we told them about Northstar Baking. My only area of improvement would be the look of the cakes. They didn't look like Hawaiian shirts and the color was a strange purplish-gray, which looked a little odd (though it doesn't look too bad in my photo). But I probably should have communicated a theme color or discussed the look better. But other than that, it was a unique cake and the guests were happy. Would definitely recommend Northstar and Chef Metin to friends and family!
