I've always been curious how this place stacked up against Dochi and finally got a chance to try it. The flavor combos are unique and sound just a bit more appealing, but some of them are just too overly sweet. Dochi still beats them out on texture/density, taste, presentation, and longevity (how good they still taste later in the day). Mochinut is lighter, but still maintains the chewy texture at least. I like how unique the drinks are in their clear cans. Get the Dirty Coffee, because you can't go wrong with cold brew, creama, mild tea and boba. I'd come back just for that drink alone. Been craving some mochi donuts, so stopped in from a quick bite. The storefront is quite small, but they have plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Went in on a Sunday afternoon, and there was no line. You order on a touchscreen and wait for your order, no human interaction necessary. Got the 3x set to try a few different flavors. Black Sesame: This flavor was probably my favorite of the bunch. It was not too sweet, and the hint of black sesame flavor was subtle enough to make it all work. Pistachio Cheesecake: This one was also quite yummy. Most of the flavor came from the cream cheese in the frosting, didn't really taste any pistachio. But I do like cheesecake-flavored products so this was fine. Blueberry: Sadly, I liked this flavor the meat or of the bunch. The frosting was a bit too sweet, and the flavor was quite basic. For these flavors of mochi donuts I tried, the base was just an original mochi donut, and the main flavor came from the frosting on top. Every time I'm in Seattle I try a new boba place. Mochi donuts + boba... yes, please! I love the vibe of this place. Super modern and IG worthy without being tacky. I went when they opened on Sunday. I needed food while walking back to my apartment, and I'm so glad I live close to this mochinut! This location is very airy and feels spacious despite not being huge. I walked in, and was able to quickly order on the screen. My donut was ready almost immediately, while the corn dogs took slightly longer to get ready, but everything tasted great! The potato dog was easily my favorite, but the flaming Cheeto dog tasted quite good! I also loved that they give a free dipping sauce with each dog, and I got honey mustard and garlic Parmesan. Great! I had not been to a mochinut before, and I must say that it went great! The donuts were delicious, and the options they had were great. I was only going in for 6, so I couldn't try them all, but I will deff be back at some point to try whatever flavors they have in rotation! I think it's cool that they have rotating flavors based on the location of the mochinut! The service was quick (we went at a random time so there was no line, which was great!) and the vibe was very trendy. The location was in the bottom of an apt complex I think (maybe a condo?) I think I'd be there all the time if I lived above it haha overall I'd recommend, and especially recommend if you like mochi donuts! My coworker and I came here for dessert as it was close to work. I heard that they had bubble tea now so we were excited to try. Each of us got a drink: ube, matcha and Thai iced tea. They were out of boba so we opted for crystal boba instead. You can adjust your sweetness as well as your ice level. I got mine with 25% sweetness and no ice. I was surprised at how much I like the drink. It was creamy and have some ube flavor. My coworkers also like their drink as well. The container is super cute and portable. We also got a donut to try. I got the creme brulee and unfortunately it didn't taste good. The texture is fine but the creme brulee was a miss. There was no burned sugar and the flavor was so off putting. Overall I will come back for bubble tea, I might try a different flavor donut to see how it is but we will see. Price is reasonable as well. I was in the area picking up groceries and decided to stop by. That said, I'm pregnant and was so tired and then it started raining so I was like "ugh these damn donuts better be worth it". And damn they definitely were! Pros- definitely better than dochi. And note that we actually like dochi and always order some when we stop by uwajimaya. But these definitely were chewier and crispier on the outside. And the flavors definitely are more interesting. Can't wait to try more flavors! Cons- they're kinda slow getting the orders out. I know this is owned by the same famous corn dog place in Chinatown which also has slow service. I think it's bc they fry it on the spot (unlike dochi stores - at this place, you actually see someone making and frying the donuts). With the social media and the foodie community buzzing about this place, of course I had to make my way over to try. I first went over during the soft opening after 10:30 AM and there was a longgggggg line around the front of the store and down to the sidewalk. This is when I decided I didn't want it bad enough to wait in the cold. The second time I went I got there at 10:15 AM and no line. I thought you had to wait outside so we went back to the car for 5 minutes to warm up and went back to the storefront at 10:20. Still no line but another couple showed up and we found that the line actually starts inside in the warm office building. There are placements on the ground to indicate where to stand in line and how to social distance from others. If you are not wanting to wait in line, my advice is to definitely go a little early. It is worth waiting around ~15 mins rather than an hour cause you did not want to go early. Plus then you get full range of flavors for the day without any being sold out. The day I went, which was grand opening day, they opened up right at 10:30. 1 group in at a time let in to the register to order and service was pretty quick (bias cause I was the second in line). The grand opening day had a deal for 3 extra donuts if you buy a dozen so that was what we did. I already had wanted to try one of each, 6 flavors, so getting 2 of each flavor and 3 extra was perfect since we were already planning to share with friends and family. The flavors I was able to try were: Strawberry, Black Sesame, Melona, Mango, Churro, and Nutella Almond. My favorite was the strawberry. These donuts were so chewy but light at the same time. It is sooooo easy to get caught up eating and end up eating a whole box. One is not very filling or heavy if you think about donuts from the grocery store or crispy cream, they are not like that. Also they kinda get melty if in a warm environment, or maybe a note for the sprint/summer. The one big question: How do they compare to Dochi? Honestly for me they don't really compare that much. I think each place has their own set of flavors and depending on your taste buds and what you like, they each stand on their own. I truly don't have a preference of one of the other. Mochinut has more fruity flavors and Dochi has more dessert flavors. I think Mochinut for me was a little more chewy. Mochinut also has a little thicker glaze which can cause some of the flavors to be more in your face and sweeter than Dochi. Definitely worth trying in my opinion. 2ND week open, and the hype is real! MochiNut is widely advertised on social media as mochi donuts are making their debut around seattle. The modern atmosphere and the visual appeal of the donuts create the excitement. Special mochi donuts are good, however there are some kinks that need to be worked out in the operation here. First gripe is, when downtown seattle lake Union, parking is not easy. I rode around the block quite a few times to find a paid street parking within 3 blocks. I did see a parking garage one block over connected to MochiNut, but that would have cost me $7 for 0-1 hour. After 10 minutes I paid a meter and walked two blocks. Found MochiNut in a corporate building, and saw a long line into the store when approaching. The line moved from 12-15 deep to the front, in about 10 minutes. But by the time it was my turn at the register, the employee told me it would be a 30 minute wait because they are behind on donuts. I wasn't leaving at this point. I ordered one of each of the 6 flavors of the day to make the half dozen. The only one I would ever return or crave for is the ube flavor. At this wait and price point, I won't ever make the drive to return unless I was already in the area, and the wait time was much less. Donuts deserve 1-2 stars and another added for kind service with smiles, and apology for the wait. I believe they need a much larger donut case and to get a few hours head start before their late opening time (10:30a) in order to keep up with demand and keep wait time down. read more

Temper your expectations and don't buy too much into the hype. NOTE: I'm being intentionally generous with my review, since this place replaced "Meat & Bread", which I honestly really liked, despite the fact they were probably the most expensive take-out sandwich place in Seattle. My partner and I showed up during the end part of the day on a Sunday (April 4th, afternoon). She was craving a mochi donut, so it was between this place and the one in Uwajimaya. This place seemed more hype, so we hopped in the car and drove over. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 6/10. They had exactly six flavours, and don't make custom ones (you get what they have, basically). Straightforward, but not impressive. There were six flavours available on April 4, 2021 (when we went): - Matcha - blueberry, - raspberry, - churro, - Belgian chocolate, and - Dark chocolate s'mores To be honest I didn't have a favourite, because they all kinda tasted the same (at least once you got past the top layer). 2) FRESHNESS: 7/10. Kudos to the fact these were at least warm when we got them. The problem I had with these were that it's the same dough for all six, but the only real difference is the topping - and it's not that thick of a topping either. The Matcha and Dark Chocolate S'mores were heavier on the topping flavour, but everything else was kind of disappointing (in the tastiness department, anyway, I could barely tell the difference after the first two bites). 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 6/10. Expensive for what you get. Half dozen is $16, full dozen is $30; more expensive than competitors, for the same size (or smaller). I forgot how much it is individually, but you'd be better off buying a dozen; it's expensive at almost $3/donut, but I guess you're paying for the marketing? (Note: given the simplicity of this, each unit of mochinut can't cost more than $1 to make, ingredients and labour in all) 4) SERVICE: 6/10. It was SUPER slow despite us ordering only a half-dozen (one of each) - we saw the line they were making them on (it's a pretty open place), and they were done our order well in advance, but didn't seem to have enough people making the boxes to send customers on their way? It took at least 5 extra minutes beyond what was necessary to get us in and out - since there's no place to sit or eat, this should be a much more efficient operation. 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 6/10. Overall, not impressed. Probably not coming back, since there are other options that need to be tried, and this place honestly did not "wow" either of us. The parking situation is kinda weird since there's no parking on this side of the street - you have to park on a side street, or across the street from the place, and dash across the road. Got the half and half mozzarella/hot dog with hot Cheetos, which is 100x better than the traditional corn dog. You get 1 free sauce with $1 charge for additional. Mentally prepared to budget enough time to order the mochi donuts, but there wasn't really anyone when we came on Sunday afternoon. It's probably because the flavors aren't that appealing, but it's honestly sufficient for me as long as there is the matcha mochi donut. My friend and I split a half dozen, 1 of each flavor. Like other reviews, the major downside to this place is that you can only order half dozen or full dozen, which is way too much for 1 person to consume reasonably before the donuts go stale. As I live so close to this place and love mochi donuts, that's a major bummer. The mochi donut flavors that day were mango, taro pebble, matcha, Nutella walnut, strawberry, and churro. I'm heavily biased and say matcha was my favorite, with strawberry and Nutella walnut coming close. The mango one was just alright, as the flavor isn't that strong and is only carried by the flavor in the dry fruit topping. The texture overall is just decent, not that chewy, compared to other mochi donut places I have tried in California, but I have yet to try Dochi so I can't make a point of comparison there. One of my favorite things about Mochinut is that they're always switching up the flavors! Each time I go, there's seems to be a new set of 6 unique mochi donut flavors. In general, I've liked their matcha and strawberry related flavors in the past. It's always fun to get a box of six (cheaper than individual too!) and share with friends to try out all the flavors. The shape of the donut makes it easy to split up. The donut itself is chewy and light. They also recently started carrying Korean hot dogs from ChungChun in ID, which are just as good here! The sugar topping (although it might sound strange) really pairs well with the salty/savory flavors of the hot dog. We got the potato-covered hot dog with half-mozzarella and half-hot dog (which was a delicious 8.5/10) and the ramen-covered hot dog (which was unique and crunchy 7/10). The boba here is also delicious (I usually get the brown sugar boba) and served in a cute can. They feature local art (we spend a while looking through cute punny cards from a local Asian artist) and sell cute merch as well! Mochinut is located in South Lake Union, inside a newer building where the now closed Kai Market by Uwajimaya once was. I'm pretty sure it's 'street parking only, which is normal for downtown/SLU. As the name implies, Mochinut sells mochi donuts. Mochi donuts have a gummy, chewy texture, just like mochi. Deep fried, of course, so there's a bit of crunch on the outside, but only if I eat them right away. They deep fry on site, literally right there behind the cashier! This is way better than Dochi. I can see all the mochinuts being made in the kitchen. They are about as fresh as they can be. They offer 6 flavors per day. They kept the popular 8 balls "teething ring" design. (I honestly don't know any mochi donuts that don't use this design.) They sell in quantities of 3, 6, or 12 only. We bought Melona (super yummy honeydew flavor), blueberry, and Vietnamese coffee. All of them were delicious, chewy, and quite a treat. We like Dochi - "ok", and definitely like this better. We were there on a Monday afternoon, so it was quite quiet. No lines. These donuts are so unique!! They're soft but chewy in texture, sweet but not overly sweet, and such a satisfying treat! I wasn't sure what to expect especially when I heard chewy on other reviews but they're so worth a try and I'm excited to go back soon. I ordered on their kiosk at the front of the store (which seemed like the standard way of ordering I think?) and it puts you in a queue with the other orders. I love donuts and mochi! And these were a really combination of the two. The mochi donuts are light, chewy, and a good level of sweetness. Also, they look very cute! :) We tried 6 different flavors. My favorites were the ube, chocolate mint, and strawberry. The churro, passionfruit, and tiramisu were just ok.
