I love this place. If I'm having a rough morning, or just attended a concert and want a late night snack. The employees are always friendly and the location is clean and easily accessible. Marshall Mather's is my fav but I'm excited to try their new donut sticks.
1. First the good. The counter staff were welcoming and friendly. The shop itself is cool looking and inviting. 2. Back in the day when Voodoo only had one shop in Portland and you had to wait in a long line we went a number of times. What I remember most about it was that the inventiveness of their flavors was matched by the quality of their donuts. 3. On our recent trip to Voodoo here in Seattle that quality was a thing of the past. My past favorite the Grape Ape was so messy and sad looking I didn't order it. And it wasn't the only sad looking donut in the case. We tried a couple of donuts (apple fritter and Pucker Up) and in both cases the donuts underneath the toppings were oily. I won't be coming back. There are better donuts with more consistent quality in Seattle.
Service was great, fast and friendly. Cute little place with no real place to eat inside. The decorated donuts are fun and definitely worth coming to try. I just wanted to try a few things: voodoo doll - 6.5/10 - great decoration, very tart but each bite with a pretzel made the donut very balanced bacon maple bar - 7.5/10 - this was my favorite. rich, creamy, sweet and savory red velvet cheesecake - 6/10 - good but nothing stood out Would definitely visit often. I am lucky we don't have them where I live otherwise I would be gaining lots weight.
Quality/Quantity - Time for dessert. We just had dinner next door and because my daughter is such a HUGE fan and supporter, we came here for dessert. Pumpkin Spice Late - Just okay. Pumpkin Buttermilk Bar - Just okay. Personally, I feel the "fad" is over. I still remember when you first started and we used to wait in hour-long lines. But don't worry, as long as my daughter is a fan, we will still support. Ambiance - Cool decor, consistent with their brand. See pictures. Plenty of selections as always. Open 7 days a week from 6am to 11pm or 3am; see my website or my picture. Service - Overall good. Not 100% clear directions on the door if we were supposed to wait outside or not?!?! Price - $8, reasonably priced. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2000/2003 and now with 23+ locations and in 9 states and continuing to grow. We have been to at least 11 of your locations and counting.
This isn't my first time coming to Voodoo Doughnut -- I've even been to the original location in Portland, OR -- but this visit was special. My mom had been craving a buttermilk bar for weeks. She'd tried four different doughnut shops and couldn't find one anywhere, so I figured Voodoo might be our best shot... and it was! She said it was delicious and tasted just like the ones she had when she was a kid. Voodoo is always fun because of its unique flavors and quirky names -- the Voodoo Doll, Grape Ape, Maple Blazer Blunt -- you name it. The décor matches the vibe perfectly: colorful, playful, and a little spooky (the name is Voodoo Doughnut, after all). The spinning display cases showing off all the doughnuts are such a cool touch and make it hard to choose just one. I went with the Portland Cream this time, and it was delicious. Whether you're craving something classic or something wild, Voodoo always delivers.
We had a really disappointing visit to Voodoo Donuts. I've had their donuts before and have enjoyed them, but this location served us overpriced, overcooked, and stale donuts for a premium. Yuck. In the evenings, the inside of the store is closed and you have to wait at an outside walk-up window. It's not really a problem, except that the employee running the window was brand new and had no idea how to work the point of sale system or even the names of their most popular donuts. (He did, of course, have zero issues prompting us to press the tip button). We got a box of 4 donuts because we couldn't decide and they all sounded good. That's the key word here: they SOUNDED good. And there's the main caveat with Voodoo Donuts: they consistently over-promise and under-deliver. Hubby got a Butterfinger donut and a maple crème stuffed donut. One bite and he was done. I got a strawberry glazed with sprinkles and a strawberry crème donut. I was also disappointed. My donuts were greasy and tasted so old and stale. The grease was disgusting and obviously had not been changed in a while. Nobody wants a nasty donut that was fried in old grease that wasn't warm enough. It made the dough soak up all the nasty flavors. I also couldn't tell that my donuts were supposed to be strawberry as there was zero fruit flavor in either of them. All I could taste was old, dirty grease. Look at my photos, you can SEE how overcooked and soaked with too-brown grease my donuts were. Barf. I'm mad that I wasted money and time and carbs on these donuts. Skip this location, you can do far, far better.
My partner is obsessed with this place and honestly I get it. I love that they have vegan donuts and there's always fun monthly specials. The service is always friendly and helpful. It's a small place without really seating indoors but it's easily packaged to go, which is usually what we're doing anyways.
The donuts are giant. The dough is nice and soft. The icing was a little too sweet so I got tired by the end of it. We ordered through the takeout window and they handed the donuts to us right there. Glad they had vegan options since I'm allergic to dairy. I'd probably try a different flavor next time.
I scheduled a pickup here. Since it's a smaller location, I did have to wait in a bit of a line, but the staff was incredibly friendly throughout. Most importantly, the doughnuts were absolutely delicious and worth the wait!
My only experiences with Voodoo Doughnut have been in Portland, long before it became a national chain. Despite having seen them in other parts of the country, this Seattle location was my first foray into the non-Portland Voodoo life. And unsurprisingly, it was a solid, sweet, and food comatose experience. (#1) The shop is located on the corner of Pine and Minor, just around the block from lots of popular businesses along Pike in the heart of Capitol Hill. It's too small for any actual seating, but the lines can get so overwhelming that a security guard is there to keep the crowds manageable. Like any popular spot, one has to be let in once the security has given the all-clear. Voodoo Doughnut sold a sizeable chunk of their ownership before the pandemic, which has taken them to multiple states that include Texas, Colorado, Florida, and California. Thus, the brand feels more *corporate* than ever, which is a far from the alternative, Portland hippy / grudge vibe that I had long associated with the company. There are some definite nice touches: employees with legible name tags (#2), a bright pink exterior with neon lighting, and a spinning display case carousel complete with excellent lighting and the names of every doughnut available in their arsenal. It's brilliant. Of the dozen doughnuts, the ones that stood out were the maple bacon bar, the banana cream pie, the blueberry cake, and the buttermilk bar. The pop tarts and marshall mathers were just too sugar for my liking. Barring all sweets aside, the maple old fashioned may stand to be my favorite of all. The folks behind the counter were young and sweet. The prices are going to be up there but the quality of the product should be on par. While I can't really say that I prefer the more updated version of VD compared to the older one, I can say that I'm more willing to give it the other locations a shot. __________ (#1) Blood sugar crash. Loved the variety of donuts. They were delicious! The cashier was a big cold - I tried asking her what her favorite was and she gave me a weird look (like 'why are you asking me?') which I thought wasn't very respectful... the ambiance = PINK. I love that they have the spinning donut preview - makes the space more fun!
Friend and I wanted sweets late at night and decided to go here on a Thursday night close to 11:30pm. Use street parking since it's Cap Hill. They actually close their interior when it's late for reasons you would be aware of when you think Capitol Hill. It's bright in there and there are pink display cases where the doughnuts would be displayed inside though they were all empty when I took a peek behind the counter. Their selections are on a menu printed outside several of their windows though they're hard to see when it's dark; you can use a QR code near those menus to see their offerings through their phone. They're all pretty unique in their own ways, some creative and others plain suggestive. I've had doughnuts from one of their locations in Portland back in 2022, so I recognized certain kinds that they've brought over to this one. The two of us collectively ended up getting the following: - Bacon maple bar: I've said this many times but sweet and savory just don't mix for me. This doughnut is a prime example of that, though I do like how crispy the bacon remained and how it balanced the overly sweetened pastry. - Mango tango: even sweeter than the bacon maple bar! Possibly because of the mango jelly and Tang. Neither of us could finish the half we split, it tasted heavily like a mango-flavored sour gummy. - Cinnamon sugar cake: our most favorite solely because it wasn't as overly sweetened as the rest, and was relatively mild in flavor. Dough was dry and bread was a tad too firm. - Cock n' balls: so... this doughnut is HUGE. Funny enough, the white Bavarian cream filling inside is only in the shaft of the doughnut and not the balls... that aside, the cream doesn't pair well with the heavier chocolate frosting; their sweet profiles don't match. - Old dirty bastard: a mix of Oreos, chocolate and peanut butter. This was just very heavy and sweet and my friend didn't get to try this one after having literally everything else listed above. If it wasn't obvious, my friend and I agreed that the doughnuts were too sweet in general, and I didn't prefer most of the flavor profile mashups from what I had. That we ordered later in the day didn't affect the quality of the doughnuts, but they still could have been a lot better. I'd prefer a regular glazed doughnut anytime over here, but I'm glad I was able to give these doughnuts another go and not have to return to Portland to do so.
I had a good experience picking up donuts at Voodoo. I like how they have the menu outside and also you can see the spinning wheel of donuts when you walk in. The staff here were friendly. I grabbed a couple of donuts to go. There doesn't appear to be room to eat here. I got a coffee from Monorail down the hill to go with them.
I was heading out to a cruise and ended up staying a day before. I knew I had to go and try the famous Voodoo Doughnuts, and I'm happy because I was pleasantly surprised at how well they live up to the hype. I'd have to give the location a five out of five. Great staff were there making donuts when I was there. I'll start with the maple bar, which was packed full of flavor. I'll give it a four out of five: great texture, great flavor. The maple is really strong, stronger than my preference. I'll go to the buttermilk bar. The buttermilk bar was nice and dense, something great to dunk in a milk or a coffee. The Chocolate Ring, which is what they call it, I'd give it a five out of five: nice and pillowy soft in the middle, nice and had a crisp outside to it, and the chocolate was nice and rich and dark. Of course, you have the classic raised donut, which I had two of. Nice and fluffy in the middle, nice thin layer of glaze on the outside, pillowy soft, definitely a five out of five. When I came back from my cruise to Alaska, I went back to Voodoo Doughnut to get more of the classic raised donut and the Chocolate Ring. Definitely a great donut. If you haven't been, you should go; you have lots of unique choices. I went for some of the classics because I knew I couldn't go wrong with them, and I wasn't disappointed at all. read more
I remember the days when my hubs and I would wait in a long line to buy donuts from the original Voodoo in Portland. Back then, the donuts were tasty, fresh, and hilariously named and decorated. I thought some of that magic might be there at the Capitol Hill shop when we visited during Valentine's Day week last month, but alas, it was not. My vegan apple fritter was so oily and heavy that I could only eat one quarter of it before I stopped. It was one of the worst apple fritters I have ever tried. My hubs got the seasonal special which was a raised donut shaped like lips and frosted with a sour cherry glaze. It tasted like a Jolly Rancher candy and not in a good way. His donut was also greasy. I am giving two stars because the shop is cute and the server was nice. But sadly, the donuts are no good. What happened to you, Voodoo???? Since you franchised, donut quality has gone down the tubes. I am sad. We won't be back. read more

Good things come in pink boxes. That's the message from Voodoo Doughnut, a chain of bougie confectionery delectables found in many major cities. The Seattle location doesn't disappoint. Huge selection of creatively designed doughnuts. One of my faves is their namesake: the Voodoo Doughnut. Cleverly shaped like a voodoo doll complete with the cutest little up stretched arms, filled with tasty jelly "blood", and stabbed with a pretzel "pin." Exorcise the doughnut demons with the uber cool pinkery of Voodoo Doughnut! read more

I was so so so excited for Voodoo to open their Seattle shop. I stalked their Instagram and even bought a Voodoo shirt in anticipation of their Seattle opening.They have always been a staple during my Portland trips. Staples include Mango Tango, Oh Captain My Captain, and of course the Maple Bacon Bar. Maybe my taste-buds have changed, or maybe Voodoo has... but everything here is SO greasy. This is the only time in my life I couldn't finish an apple fritter (perhaps my favorite pastry of all). Theirs tasted dry, burnt and greasy. I'm sure I'll be back but this might be more of a drunk-binge than a breakfast treat. read more

Eh. I was expecting heaven based on the way people talk about this and all the pink boxes I saw at the airport when I boarded my plane in Cleveland... but this was mostly a miss for me. I orders my donuts at 9pm, 6 hours before closing, and found most of them to be quite dry. I got a lemon surprise which tasted nothing like lemon and the sour cream glazed which was very average. My wife got some banana donut and she liked it, and we split the churro cheesecake which was the only redeeming quality of the visit. The store was brightly lit and clean and the employees were more or less nice. As I stepped outside I noticed they left a note on my box but I couldn't read it. As I went to go back inside they locked the doors. I didn't see a walk up window so just left. I'd consider trying these again, maybe earlier in the day to see if they're fresher. read more
How is it that I like Voodoo Donuts more now that they are just located a few minutes away from me on Capitol Hill in Seattle rather than a few hours away when the only way I could get one is to drive 3 hours to Portland, Oregon or fly on a plane to LA? Is this simply a classic case of the "propinquity effect" where mere physical closeness increases our liking of desirable people and things? I can't help but feel that Voodoo Donuts tastes better in Seattle. Am I just being biased or are my tastebuds and enthusiasm to get them now based on reality and not just convenience? Like I feel they are more fluffy, moist, and overall more delicious here in Seattle, lol! Or could it be that the water in Seattle makes it taste better?!?! Like how they say bagels in New York are different than any other because they get their special texture and flavor from the unique properties in the water that is only found in New York. Whatever the reason may be, I'm quickly becoming a regular at the Voodoo Donuts in Capitol Hill. I find it fun to bring donuts in their adorable pink box and bring it to parties and social gatherings. I'm sure the novelty might wear off eventually. For now, I am a fan and I love that they finally opened up a shop in my neck of the woods. read more

Started my introduction to VooDoo in the classic Portland locations. It was a must go to on the many visits. The newly opened location in downtown Seattle does not disapppint. Same great doughnuts in the many varieties. The crew knows the product and always good recommendations. Very friendly. The atmosphere is fun, and very entertaining decor. There are reasons it remains on top 10 doughnut spots. read more
I am casually and lazily knocking out Voodoo Doughnut locations as I come across them and now I can say I have finally been to the Seattle location and can mark that off of my list. I have had their more unusual and crazy kinds of doughnuts in the past but ultimately the doughnuts I am most fond of from this company are their more basic and simpler ones. I am quite fond of their Devil's Food type doughnuts, powdered sugar ones and what is probably my all time favorite, the "Ring of Fire" doughnut which is a spicy, chocolate cake doughnut covered in cinnamon sugar, a cayenne pepper mix and topped with a dried red chili pepper. Alas this location did not have that beloved doughnut of mine. My eyes did not locate it so I had to ask and the response was...denied. But I found a doughnut I was happy with. It was a basic cinnamon and sugar one and that proved to be satisfying. The cashier even tossed in an extra doughnut of the same type which was nice. Steve and I both have a weakness for doughnuts and so that extra one was gobbled down in no time. Steve got a raised doughnut with grape frosting that was pretty good. Voodoo Doughnuts...at least some of their locations anyway have a reputation for long lines. There was nobody in this location at all other than us. The set up is pretty straight forward. You order the doughnuts you want and then you leave. There is no seating for you to eat your doughnuts at this location so I imagine that amounts to some of it I suppose as well as the newness of this location is probably wearing off. A really new Voodoo Doughnuts location has opened in Bellevue in which we were told it's a larger location with seating and perhaps more available doughnut types so that is something to be mindful of on a comparative level between the two locations in the Seattle metro area. read more

I've tried several donuts from this place and over the months ive began to appreciate them more and more. This donut shop is still so unique despite becoming so popular. It took me a few tries, but I finally understand the hype. There are many aspects of this establishment and their offerings that are just great. Beware they are some pricey donuts, but you forsure get what you pay for. Despite being pricey for a donut, they aren't expensive enough to break the bank or pass up. One thing I noticed is that I cannot eat my donut in one sitting and my favorite experiences have been the ones ive shared. On my last visit I picked up 3 donuts, each shared with my partner after dinner. Half the donut felt like at least a full serving of dessert. The decoration of this place is absolutely appropriate for both a donut shop and the theme. Feels very portland and right at home in the heart of cap hill. The staff is also always a pleasure. Upon entering it almost feels like a Halloween themed donut shop, which also kind of makes the serves seem less friendly, until you actually open up and talk to them. Be sure to ask question ls before picking because they have very unique flavors. Out of the many donuts ive had, its been the unique flavored ones that make me realize how special this place is. They have display cases lined with unique flavors and decorated donuts. Even one thats shipped like a voodoo doll. The most unique flavors ive tried have been their grape ape and the cherry cola donut and i must say i actually really enjoyed the flavor. The mango, banana creme, and Homer flavors where also somewhat unique but not unheard of. Not only are the flavors unique, but they are made quality. The density, the airless, propertions if icing to donut to filling, the way it breaks down and melts when chewing, and etc. Even the way the quality held up after days of siting. Now for parking. Its terrible and I usually have to park fairly far. I got lucky once back when the place first opened and I didn't even know it yet and parked right next to the place, but I was only there because I was going to another restaraunt nearby. We ended up going to grab donuts after and my first donut I tried was just preety good. Nothing special besides being very large and filling. This is a great place to visit, great vibes and tons of donuts for every taste. Traveling with my co-workers we all have dietary restrictions. A Vegan, Glutton Free and I that I'm allergic to almost EVERYTHING.. lol and not lol. They had an amazing apple fritter! The service was really quick. read more
I got the limited edition "Pothole" which was great. It was filled with Bavarian cream, dipped in chocolate, and covered in chocolate cookies. I also got the Dirt, which was pretty good. Next time I'd like try the Portland Cream or apple fritter. I do wonder if these were day olds though, they didn't taste super fresh and we came in at 8:15a on a Saturday. read more
It was a Monday, and it was live and kicking! I wasn't sure where these pink bags and boxes were coming from, and poof, from voodoo! Its on the corner and word on the street, their staying open until midnight, lets gooo! I mean who else has been waiting for one of my favorite drugs, to open a store on the corner- me me me me!! Just love it. the pink building is eye opening, pretty, gives this area a bit of a 'vibe' and walkable from the paramount theater (it's a HILL), but worth it, if you're getting donuts! This donut shop is a great place to add to your list when out and about! Slice of Oregon in our backyard - thanks!!! (BTW, I didn't go to eat a donut, I went to be nosey and smell them). Everything is OK, except for the donuts! We got there at 7 AM, ordered five donuts and two of them were stale. The glazed old-fashioned and buttermilk bar tasted like they were baked offsite quite a while ago and dropped on this satellite location. I was very disappointed! I've had them in Portland previously and they've been good. Seattle might just be their Rubicon... read more
Love VooDoo. This is the third store I've visited. My order stays the same. Bacon maple and the Memphis fritter one. This store had a line outside but they all do. Wasn't a bad wait. I did buy a hat and got donuts too. This store wasn't big inside but it's all good. read more

First time visiting this really cool spot! They offer a variety of flavors to suit all kinds of tastes. The ambiance was great, with fun displays and merch that added to the experience. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, offering great recommendations if you need guidance. I tried the cannoli filled with sweet cream; it was nice and not too overpowering. There's a solid variety for those with a sweet tooth, but even if you're not big on sweets (like me), there's still something for you to enjoy. Would definitely recommend checking it out! read more

I was really excited to finally try Voodoo, especially since it's such an iconic spot in Portland and the buzz around its Seattle opening had been nonstop. On a rainy Saturday morning, I stood in the long line to get my doughnut fill. Luckily, Voodoo had their operations down and the line moved fairly quickly. I decided to get the iconic Voodoo doll, the snickerdoodle doughnut, and the maple cream doughnut. All of the doughnuts were quite large and felt like a great deal for the ~$5 price tag. Unfortunately, there's no seating inside the shop so I had to eat my doughnuts outside. Out of the three, the maple cream doughnut was my favorite. The maple glaze on top was rich and sweet without being overpowering, and the cream inside had a distinct banana flavor that made for a surprisingly delicious combination. The snickerdoodle doughnut, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming. While the exterior was super exciting, the dough itself felt a little too plain and heavy since there was no filling inside. Of course, I couldn't leave without trying the famous Voodoo doll doughnut. It was adorable, with its little pretzel stake and playful design, making it almost too cute to eat. The chocolate glaze on the outside was rich and smooth, which I really enjoyed, but the raspberry jelly filling was a bit too tart for my taste. While I appreciated the contrast between the chocolate and the fruit, I didn't think the flavors meshed as well as I had hoped. read more

Right on the corner can't miss it, lucky if you find parking in front. Great location Lobby was clean and organized You can actually see them making the donuts. Was at emerald city comic con and decided to come by to get some donuts. The set up of the store is a fire hazard, it was quite small and the door open inwards. No one was following the rules of the line and it was quite chaotic. The donuts are good though. We had: Portland cream. It was nice and chocolately with a pudding like filling. Quite tasty. Go-tart. I think this is supposed to replicate a poptart? I really liked the filling with the frosting on top. read more
