Whereas some pizza places take 30 or 40 minutes to get your order out here it's about 7 or 8 minutes assuming it's not busy. Go educated, it's a Buffet line of ingredients and toppings. Those who are uneducated are press to make decision about size, sauces, cheeses and a variety of toppings. The same for the salad, you need to make decision about size of salad, what base leaf do you want, meats, vegetables and then dressings. This is pretty rapid fire and you have people define you. Either go prepared or preorder. This is black and white pizza shop with soft drinks. Their ovens are gas fired and cook the pizza rapidly. You have the choice of after pizza dressing like honey mustard, and the like. It's clean, well run, but choices are limited; hence, pre educated gets you better. There are few amenities, pictures on the wall some abstract some celebrating the customers and to a limited extent the workers. Although they still leave room for tips. After ordering it's all self serve. Bathrooms are clean and wide. Handicaps should not be a problem. Tables are limited, they cater to pick up delivery services. This is not a let's impress someone, rather it's we got 30 minutes let's get something to eat. Lots of locations. They could use blinds to help with the bright sun. I see no problems with food safety and they give a sizable discount to first responders. Don't think they will be robbed noting the numbers of first responders eating there. I had a horrible experience today at Mod Pizza on San Felipe. I went in and ordered a Greek salad, asking for my dressing on the side. The gentleman making the salad seemed like he knew what he was doing at first, but it quickly became clear he didn't. He kept staring at the wall at the picture of a Greek salad while trying to make it. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because everyone's got to learn. After paying and leaving, I got to my job (10 minutes away) and realized they gave me the wrong dressing. I had specifically asked for Greek dressing on the side, but they put Caesar dressing instead. Frustrated but willing to give them a chance to fix it, I drove back and politely explained the situation. When I asked if they could remake the salad because it was now soggy from sitting in the container with the wrong dressing, the manager (a lady with glasses) held the salad up to my face and repeatedly asked me, "You look at the salad and tell me what's wrong with it." She did this at least four times. It was incredibly rude and dismissive. At this point, our voices escalated slightly (which was understandable given her attitude), and then she threatened to call the police unless I lowered my voice. Instead of de-escalating the situation, she actually proceeded to call the cops. All I had asked for was for them to remake my salad or refund my money. The guy who made the salad even chimed in and sarcastically asked, "Why didn't you say something when you were here?" Seriously? That's the best customer service you can offer? In the end, I got my refund, but the entire experience was unnecessary and unprofessional. This was not about getting a free salad--I paid for it and simply wanted it made correctly. Customer service should be about fixing the issue, not making the customer feel like they are in the wrong. Mod Pizza, you really dropped the ball with this one. The manager and the employee need serious training--or better yet, they shouldn't be in customer-facing roles at all. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. To be clear, this isn't about race (the manager and employee are both white), it's about respect, professionalism, and basic customer service. What a super cool concept for pizza ("Subway" style). You come in, you get in line, you pick your dough (yes they have GF) and you pick your toppings. Then you watch them put that little puppy in the wood fired oven and you wait about 8-10 minutes for your pie. I picked one of the pre-designed pizza flavors and it was yummy. Chocolate Milkshake Price: I did not purchase this milkshake so I do not know the exact price. Whatever the price is, it's well worth it. Taste: The taste was so amazing, the ratio between milk and chocolate was at an expert level. I am not sure if it is the gentleman that made the shake or Mod Pizza's recipe, either way I need to try it again. Since COVID-19, they will not sell one to me. I have tried twice now, so I am hoping soon that they will offer their milkshakes again. I was shocked by how good it was coming from a pizza place. Consistency: Smooth taste because of the soft serve machine, but a little thicker would make it perfect. Not much, just a little. Appearance: The abstract look of the chocolate drizzle added to the look of the milkshake. The logo on the front of the cop was fitting with the milkshake's color. It was put in a regular cup that other drinks belong in, so I would like to see them expand on the look of their milkshakes to add whipped cream. Time: Mod Pizza wants to be categorized as a fast food restaurant, so I am evaluating the time it took for me to receive my milkshake. I've been to Hot Toppings several times but saw there was another customize-your-pizza place in town so I had to try it out. It's in a center with its own lot, but I imagine it getting full during busy hours. As it was, there were only a handful of free spots when we were there. We went at around lunch time on a Saturday and they had a steady stream of customers. The place is nice - big and well air conditioned. A couple of the people I were with thought it was on the cold side but I liked it. It seemed pretty clean for the most part, but it had only been open for about an hour. We went up to the counter where the menus were and they offer their classic pizzas but I was there for custom pizzas because I'm vegetarian and I don't eat onions or garlic. They have three sizes: mini (6"), mod (11"), and mega (2 mod pizza crusts on top of each other for a thicker crust) in addition to the pizza salad. I got the mod for just under $8 each with unlimited toppings. The first girl greeted us and explained how it worked when she found out it was our first time. We could only have olive oil as a base and only just looked at me when I said I was allergic to onion/garlic. The girl accidentally touched the minced garlic and then proceeded to brush it off onto the ground before looking at my face and then asked if I wanted her to change her gloves. Yes, please. I'm assuming she didn't hear me when I said I was allergic to the very thing she touched... There is an assembly line of sorts set up where they slide your pizza to the next person after they write your name and sauce base. I asked the necessary questions and ended up loading my pizza with spinach, arugula, artichokes, mushrooms, pineapples, green bell peppers, roasted cauliflower, roasted corn, kalamata olives, mozzarella, and asiago. I also got a fountain drink (they have in house made lemonade and iced tea) and waters to go with. I'm not fond of soda. They also have milk shakes but they were up to 800 calories each (not big cups either) so I passed. Tempting though! Maybe if I wasn't already having a pizza all to myself, haha.... After you get seated, they call out your name when your pizza's ready. We had ours there so they came on these melamine plates and everything else is self serve. There are plastic utensils, straws, napkins, parmesan, pepper flakes, and plastic water cups by the fountain drinks. The pizzas were nice and hot and well loaded. The crust is thin and crispy - thinner than Hot Toppings. They're sliced into quarters so if you want smaller slices, you have to cut it yourself. I finished the entire pizza by myself whereas I couldn't finish the one at Hot Toppings (probably because they had a slightly thicker crust). All in all, delicious! You can't really go wrong when you picked all the toppings yourself. I tried all the lemonades and the pear iced tea and in the end liked to mix them up together. The restrooms are located in the back and were in good shape at the time. My only critiques: - Serious contamination possibility issues - The workers aren't very careful; my sister was never asked what kind of cheese she wanted (she wanted vegan) and before she knew it, her pizza was all the way down the line and topped with non-vegan mozzarella - They don't have some toppings like sun dried tomatoes, which I personally love, as well as broccoli Otherwise, a pretty good deal - and it's pizza! Finally had my first MOD experience! I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu isn't large and overwhelming and if you don't see anything that catches your eye, you can build your own. I went with the pizza of the month which was the Ruthie. It consisted of red sauce, pepperoni, I believe both Parmesan and mozzarella, jalepenos, and hot honey. There is not limit at all! So many choices, but the world is yours! Affordable as well, mini (6") was $4.87 and regular (10/11") was ~$7, so it's not a bad deal at all! MODs pizza is a perfect place for lunch or dinner with friends or family because it's affordable and the pizzas can be "modded" to suit just about anyone's taste buds. I normally order an 11" size for $7.47 and stack on as much veggies and meats as I can (unlimited toppings at no extra charge! woo!). You can be as creative as you want, but from experience I learned that sometimes too much isn't a good thing since not all ingredients go well with each other. My latest creation had sausage, pepporoni, chicken, ham, bell peppers, mushrooms, basil, onions, olives, and a few chick peas. Awesomeness in a circle. If you aren't feeling creative, no worries - they have pre-selected signature pizza's on the menu as well. Each pizza parlor I visted differs mostly in their crust, sauce, and cheese. I find that MOD Pizza has a very thin crust that helps cook the pizza to a cripsy bite each time. I wouldn't say that this type of crust is better or worse than other pizza parlors I've been to (i.e. Lunas or Pizaro), but different in a good way. The sauce and cheese here doesn't stand out as much, but still gets a thumbs up. Ingredient toppings taste fresh too. A major plus to this place is that they don't obligate you to leave a tip. I noticed that most coffee shops and now restaurants use iPads to check customers out which allows customers to tip the cashier with just a click of a button. Some even have a smiley face next to the 15% button! For places that don't even offer service, it still makes me feel obligated to leave a tip. They don't do that here. You just swipe your card and get a receipt! Seems fair too because you pick up your own food and clean up your own table. Nice and affordable.
