When I go to the airport, I can always seem to count on this place for being fast. Especially when I'm running late for a flight... but am so hungry. They make pizzas in the way you'd order a sandwich at a popular sandwich food chain. They make pizzas to your liking in a "build your own," but they also have a list of popular, customized pizzas. The pizzas come in three sizes (mini, mod, mega), and they are all are thin crust. They make salads, too! They have milkshakes with quite a few more options than you'd expect - like vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mint, coffee, etc. The employees are always so nice; even when it's really busy, and this place can get really busy! I mean, it's at the airport! Lol. I enjoy how easy it is to order, pay, and wait for your order. I've never had to wait too long or felt like I was going to miss boarding. Since our flight was kindly delayed for 2 hours, I got to explore the food court at PDX and I must say, it has a lot more food choices compared the other airports I have been to. That being said, I got to try out Mod Pizza. The way it works is you choose your size mini, mod, or mega. You can then either choose the classic pizza toppings or make your own. Get this, you can put WHATEVER you want on your pizza with no additional charge. Sweet right?!? The only thing that determines the cost is the size you choose. There are a large selection of sauces, meats, and fresh veggies yum! There are also a number of cheeses to make your pizza a cheesy delight. I chose the classic red sauce with a touch of pesto with spinach, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, topped with pepperoni, salami, green bell peppers, and red onions. It took about 5 minutes to bake. This MOD is located inside the PDX airport. Arriving at the airport early in the A.M. I was worried my food options would be limited to a coffee shop with a long line. My flight was 4 hours without food service so I wanted to eat something substantial. I was pleased to find MOD Pizza was open and was greeted with smiling faces. I ordered the Mini Maddy (small cheese pizza and only 300 calories) with some jalapenos and an iced tea. Upon paying I realized despite they are in the airport the prices are the same as the store front! On top of that they serve local beer and some wine on tap for just under $5! This is surprising to me because I enjoy the MOD pizza location in Beaverton. This review is no reflection on the staff at all. They did their jobs right. It was the breakfast pizza that was lacking. Being at an airport, most dining places tend to have either abbreviated or sometimes menu items that you wouldn't get in a normal location. MOD is no different in that they offer breakfast pizzas. I thought, why not? I enjoy their food. They offer two pizzas, either the Orville or the Wilbur. One has bacon the other is vegetarian. I went with bacon. The pizza had cheese, eggs, bacon, tomatoes and onion. I added mushrooms and banana peppers. This should be simple and tasty, correct? Not really. The premise is great but the pizza had ZERO taste whatsoever. Even with seasonings it didn't help much. It was just plain blah and that tarnished them a bit in my eyes. I was very please with this place... the pizza was awesome and so were the people behind the counter. Just a tip on the pizza... don't go overboard on toppings, because too many toppings does cause the pizza to become dry and harder to eat. If you are travelling are in PDX... I've never seen such a gong show of a production line in a kitchen. MOD Pizza is a great place, but I am basing this review on the Airport location and the lolfest that I witnessed. This type of restaurant is absolutely not suited for an airport! It can go from 0 customers to 100 in about 30 seconds. The problem is, they can make the pizzas faster than they can cook them creating an insane cluster of a bottleneck after payment. I had 30 people waiting for pizzas and no-one knew who's was who's and what was coming out next. There were 3 cooks working the pizza oven in a complete frenzy with obviously no organization or method to the madness. In my 20 minute wait I saw three BLACK burnt pizzas pulled out, where they had go through some kind CSI investigation to find out who's they were to remake them. When the sad customers were called in to identify the pizza body, they were notified they will again have to wait for a new pizza. In an airport, needless to say, this is not optimal. I will say the pizza was pretty good but I think this type of restaurant is just not suited for the location. read more

This review is solely dedicated to the manager of this store. The poor employees were awesome, and should not be punished. When I came in, there was a long line, and only two workers in the restaurant. The workers were extremely apologetic, for the lack of toppings left, lack of staff, and general state of things. After prying, I had found out that the store manager was nowhere to be found, and hadn't responded to the messages of the workers. I'm not sure what kind of business Mod Pizza is running, but the airport location needs to be run by someone who knows what it means to run a restaurant: getting your hands dirty and not letting your young staff struggle while you disappear and ignore them. They refused to tell me the store managers name, and if I had to guess it's likely to avoid any sort of backlash from him, but if you're reading this: learn how to do your job. If any higher up managers are reading this, I have already filed a complaint with the appropriate labor boards, now it's your turn. read more

I needed to grab a quick bite before my flight back home and MOD Pizza caught my eye. The reason it caught my eye was because it was marketed as MOD Pizza "Superfast". With only 20 minutes until my flight departed and my rumbling stomach, I decided that this would be my best bet to a quick and warm bite. When I placed my order, there was only about two people ahead of me, and I ordered just a simple cheese pizza since I thought this would be the quickest option. Once I placed my order, it took about fifteen minutes to get my pizza! Not only did it take fifteen minutes, but my crust was burnt! It probably should have been taken out of the oven earlier if it was burnt. The employee who helped me offered to redo my pizza but with only five minutes left until departure, I could not take that risk for another burnt cheese pizza. The few positives was that the non burnt parts were pretty good for a quick bite. Also, with being around 8 US dollars for an 11 inch pizza it is a pretty good deal considering airport food prices are pretty inflated. I do take partial blame in giving a poor review for taking the risk of getting a pizza in the twenty minutes I had prior to departure. But, again, with it saying "Superfast" you would think it would be super fast. read more

As the Southwest famiglia made its way out of Portland yesterday, being in the rush that we normally are working for Monster Energy, by the time we got to the airport and out of TSA we were famished. How perfect was it to find a do-it-yourself pizza place in an airport!? You know, I've been to many airports with the amount of travel required by my job, but Portland, by far, has one of the best food courts out there. MOD Pizza was a saving grace today with its inexpensive build your own delicious pizza cuisine. I wound up puting together a simple margarita pizza on their medium crust, and although the young worker didn't really know what ricotta cheese was, and sprinkled oregano in its place, like in golf, it was a good miss. End result was a delicious pizza in less than five minutes AND a MEXICAN Coke with no HFCS! When snowboard season rolls back around this year and I'm headed to Hood, I won't miss a chance to grab my pizza when passing through. Mahalo again Mod Pizza! read more

While Bambuza is charging $4.25 for a bao right next door, you can get a mod sized pizza (11 inches) for $8.27! Talk about a steal, right? They have a meet of clever recipes, but you're free to make your own. You can get your own pizza in one of three sizes (but the mod size is just about perfect). The crust is thin and nicely chewy, with just enough of a crisp. The sauce likewise quite good. The ingredients are fresh and tasty, and they don't pile them on too heavy. I was flying out of Southwest at PDX on a Monday evening and had settled myself to just fact it that I was going to have to find any food spot to have dinner at while waiting for my flight to fly out. As I scanned the food selections that were available to me, I came upon a few possible selections that were top contenders but MOD Pizza definitely won out. Funny thing was that there was an Yelp Event being held LA around the time due to several new openings of MOD Pizza which is why this place rang a bell in my head that now was the perfect opportunity to give this place a try while I was hungry and waiting for my flight out. MOD Pizza is very similar to many of the make your own customized pizza or select what we have on the menu options such as Blaze Pizza and the Pizza Press. As you scan the menu, they definitely have a lot of different options available for you to chose depending now what you're in the mood for taste and flavor wise. What was also nice about the mine was that they actually listed the ingredients making up the pizza under the name of the pizza so you knew exactly what you were you getting, and had the option to add extra toppings onto your pizza if you wanted to. Available in 3 different sizes ranging from mini, mod and mega, you basically provide them what size you want, pizza selection and anything extra to add on there. Afterwards, it gets put into the oven to bake as you pay for your order. Once the pizza is ready, they'll call your name/number for pizza pick up. Seats were available all over the airport dining area. I ended up ordering a Mod Maddy and topped it off with extra tomatoes and basil (like a marguerite pizza). It was baked just right that I devoured the entire pizza soon after. The Mod size was just perfect and filling enough. The mini was definitely too small and would probably leave many still hungry afterwards and the mega too big for one person, but many fitting for two or more. Overall, great tasting pizza made just right and filling. Can't wait to try to ones down here in Southern California. read more

At the airport and the employee making our pizza is wearing his mask down around his neck. I asked him to please wear a mask while preparing our food. He barely moved it up over his mouth leaving his nose exposed and was obviously upset. He immediately removed it as we passed. All people are required to wear masks while in PDX so why does he not have to? I have a child that would die if infected and I am at risk as well. This pizza joint is inside the airport near the C gates and inside the food court on the left side if you're heading towards the C gates from TSA. This was probably the best option for my girlfriend and I because we wanted the best of the best inside the airport (and we weren't too hungry so we split a pizza). We're used to customized pizza places like this one because of Pieology and Blaze Pizza. At this restaurant, however, you only pay for the size of the pizza, not for the toppings so they say you can get any topping you want and as much toppings as you want. They just advise not to get a lot because it might not cook thoroughly. The customer service is incredibly friendly and helpful and I like that they have nutritional information readily available just in case you like to eat on the healthier side.
