This not the same Country Cat that once existed in Montavilla. It may have the same name, but most of what made that place great is merely a shell of its former self. That may sound like a harsh way to start off a four-star review, but I just want to make it clear to anyone who remembers the OG that their expectations need to be tempered somewhat. The food here is still great, just simpler: reduced to the bare essentials, it seems. They're efficient too, but of course, in an airport, they have to be, otherwise they'd never survive: if their customers miss their flight because their eggs took too long to arrive, their whole operation would be grounded, so no worries there. In fact, that probably explains why their menu is as slimmed down as it is - crank out hot, fresh, delicious but uncomplicated classics, as efficiently as possible. This efficiency does seem to run contrary to the actions of the staff, though, at least based on our most recent visit: our server seemed aloof and disinterested, almost lackadaisical, about taking our order and delivering it to the kitchen, which although I watched her, I never saw it happen...and yet somehow my wife's order showed up within 10 minutes, so...maybe the cook was eavesdropping? I have no idea. Regardless, the food was excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I only had a Bloody Mary, which wasn't among the best I'd ever had, but it was alright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seeing it mixed in large plastic tub right in front of me was a little off-putting, though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That was a first. I ordered a breakfast burrito from their cooler. Clerk was friendly and fast. The burrito was warmed up for me. It was HOT. That's the only good thing I can say. The first bite was a tortilla that was as hard a crunchy as a wheat thin cracker. And when I tried to rip the hard end of the burrito off, the rest of the tortilla was all stretchy and doughy, and just acted like string cheese, ripping the side of the burrito open. I almost just tossed it in the trash can... but I was hungry, and for $12 I figured I'd best carry on. Beans, egg, rice, and was the most bland food I've ever eaten. There was some kind of heat seasoning...but no taste. Just plain eggs..plain beans... and after about a third of the way through...plain mushy wadded up white uncle Ben's rice that was all mashed and stuck together in big lump. Wow definitely a great place to sit and eat breakfast before your flight! Usually airport food (even the sit down places) are not the best so I wasn't expecting too much even tho the menu sounded promising. Well I was pleasantly surprised when our food came and how nice it looked and even better, how great it tasted! Service was also excellent, our waiter was super friendly and provided great customer service. I had the eggs Benedict with the ham and my husband had the breakfast sandwich with salad. We were happy with our choices and enjoyed our breakfast here. Will be making this a regular stop when we are in the Portland airport! read more

The problem I have and why I am giving it a 3 star is the manager. It's closed and I'm still here with a few other people. I got up from my table to ask the bartender for a water. So I'm rating this on airport grab and go standards which means I'm starting with no expectations after many a horrific meal. I had the turkey bacon sandwich. The bread was so dry, thick, and tasteless that I opted not to eat it. Bacon should have been crispier and thinner, not thick bacon that once refrigerated has that sort of disconcerting jelly like consistency without the crunch. The turkey seemed like real meat, not deli meat, and was reasonably generous. What makes the sandwich is the sweet but well seasoned tomato jam coupled with the fresh lettuce. If this was put into a wrap it would be perfect. I do appreciate that the restaurant opted to avoid anything that would make the sandwich soggy given that it's airport food. With a quick switch to tortilla wrap this could be a star. read more

Our food server and food were fine. We sat at the bar and had to experience a situation between a manager and another employee trying to straighten out a cash register shortage, right in front of us. That said, I had breakfast at the country cat this morning. The menu was limited and couldn't find a simple bacon and eggs combination. I supposed I could have assembled that myself with the a la cart items, but that's a complicated task so early in the morning. We picked the breakfast sandwich and the French toast. Both looked way better than expected. The sandwich had a fried egg, ham and bacon between two English muffins. It came with a side of fruit (very fresh berries). I was totally expecting a dry, shriveled-up, heat-lamp-warmed McMuffin, but I was pleasantly shocked. It tasted pretty darn good, too. Same with the French toast. Tall and sturdy, it even came with pecans! They were definitely non-airport quality dishes. The coffee was good and strong. Service was prompt and friendly. Keep in mind that because they make these dishes post order, it'll take a good 10+ minutes. I think it's worth the wait. It's also another reason why I like PDX. read more

This is really pretty good for being an airport restaurant. It's a self-seating place but once you're seated, your order off the menu. The menu is pretty small but everything on it was mostly good. I got the Brisket, which came with a purple slaw and white bread. The brisket was nice and tender, although the au jus that it came with it, was a bit too sour for me. I didn't care for the slaw either I added the fries to that, which was a humongous portion, and I can't believe I managed to wolf the whole thing down. The server was really friendly and made the meal that much more enjoyable. And yes, I put the draft beer next to the glasses to give you an idea of the size. I grabbed brunch this past Saturday before departing Portland at the airport and I'm glad I wandered into the Country Cat. The only think that is not pictured is the amazing Ginger Ale with actual ginger in it which was so, so quenching and refreshing. It was a large drink. I ordered an omelet with a side of grits. Now, as a Southerner, I had to judge the grits which were savory and thank God they didn't put sugar in them but butter. There was no seasoning so I did add just a pinch of sodium/salt. They were a delicious complement to the omelet. Everything was filling and served hot just before I hopped on my flight just minutes later back to ATL. Loved it!
