My 10 year old son had been begging for a perm. This place was recommended to us so we came in and they were awesome! The perm is perfect on him and he absolutely loves it! I really needed a haircut and the location was a short walk away. After a small wait because I walked in during lunch. Mirella took me back and gave me one of the best curly cuts I have ever had. At first, it's kinda confusing where to enter but you go through the double doors where the parking lot is located on 7th street. For my long hurr, it costs $6.50 for a cut and with their Yelp check-in offer, you get 50% off any service so I definitely took advantage of that! They honored the Yelp discount and my hurrcut price went down to $3.25 :) I waited no more than a couple minutes and I was seated right away by a student named Crystal. She listened to what I wanted (no more than 2 inches off in order to get rid of my split ends) and she delivered. I was in the chair for about 10 minutes and was anticipating some kind of small talk but there really was no need because she was all done lol The place is a bit old and they only take cash or check but it's pretty cool to see all the hair styling students owning that ponytail and working that updo :D read more

I came to get a hair cut and I know it's a teaching school so I knew not to have my expectations so high. I had asked for a mid neck bob and it was all going pretty good until the teacher came and started cutting even more of my hair off and she left it choppy and round when I said I didn't want it to be round. Upfront, I'm comparing this place to another beauty school I have been to before I moved to OXnard. Well it's hard to beat $5 for a haircut which is why I came here. But one of the major dings for me was that the place had a nauseating stink of chemicals as soon as I opened the door. The mani/pedi area by the women's bathroom was even worse. I never got used to the stink in the hour I was there. My stylist seemed to either not speak english well or at all, which was ok since I'm not a chatty person but she had to ask someone else to ask em what I wanted. As far as I could tell during the haircutting things were going ok, though I never knew who was an instructor in the place and no one came by at all to check the cutting process. My stylish seemed to be checking for evenness and making adjustments but later in the day looking at my dried hair it is very uneven in the back. I got layers but since my hair is so wavy it's a bit hard to tell they are there. Another student next station over was sitting and eating cheetos at one point and later on two students were just gabbing and showing off shirts that had been purchased. It all felt very unprofessional. I don't know if I'd go back here. Maybe only if money was really tight and my hair was way too grown out. The time spent here was less than I expected but the quality was also less than I expected and I wasn't expecting much. The previous beauty school I'd been to had a well ventilated clean work floor with separate stations for each student. The instructors stopped often to check progress or help with starting of a cut. This place also included a shampoo, conditioner, slight styling , drying and use of product in hair all for $5. I often spent 2+ hours at this school but I was always happy with the results. read more

I like coming here prices are great. Mostly friendly people. However, they need to teach the girls to have salon etiquette. I always feel like I'm walking into a bar where there is all this gossip going on. They will make you wait because they are talking to their friends. The girls come to get you with a, " why did you come" face. This is a school and they need to be taught customer service, and professionalism, but maybe it should all start from top to bottom because even the teachers don't have that professionalism ie: screaming from the main door, coming to talk to the person who is doing my hair about gossip. Either way, I still come in hopes it changes and well, prices are cheap. read more

I had a great experience here on 12/12/14! Walked in for a cut but the students were on their lunch so i waited. A student (bertha) finished early & volunteered to take me. She did an amazing job on the layers & made my hair light & healthy again! The reason for 4 stars is tricky. The students really take their time to get it right so it's important to carve out a lot of time before you come in. Bertha spent a while combing my hair out & while i know my hair was long, i think the process might have been speedier if she used a brush first before wetting or detangler. But i still appreciate her taking her time! I just wasn't expecting that part to take as long as it did. The prices are great & even cheaper when you use the yelp 50% offer! Come here on a free day & make sure you're not in too much of a rush. read more

I absolutely love this place. The girls always do such a good job, the school is very good at teaching their students. I came here 3 times this year. I highlighted my super long hair in February , then chopped 10inches off in October and then dyed it burgundy in November. I'm so happy with my hair. Totally recommend. And it's ridiculously cheap. Erandi did a great job coloring my hair ask for her. And Crystal did a good job cutting my hair. read more

I got a full color job and a pedicure. It was stated that it would take 2 hours and they would do my pedicure while my hair was processing. But they really didn't. They only attempted to start it because i mentioned it and i let them know i was in a time crunch. It took about 3 hours, the lady that started my pedicure didn't really know what she was doing. Overall, if you dont need anything too difficult done then its ok. I used the 50 percent off service so my color was fairly inexpensive. I could have done the " pedicure" myself and saved ten dollars my hair coloelr looks decent. read more

Made my grandma an apt for a cut and color, she has really short hair. Came out to $55! I could have went to a real salon with that price. The girl didn't cut anything from off the top and the color was left different colors in different spots. Not once did a supervisor come by to "check" on her. Next time pay the little extra and go to licensed cosmetologist. read more

I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service and the lack of skill from both the student and supervisor that over looked my daughters hair cut. We took a photo in and asked for the highest level student. After both student and teacher seen the picture they both agreed that the haircut could be done, after an hour and a half and the student complaining about my daughters hair being sticky after she sprayed something on it, she said she was done... with absolutely nothing but a inch trim to her hair!!!! when the style she wanted was a completely new hair style, I guess I shouldn't be too angry for $6 but don't agree to something and then complain about it I will NEVER go back there or recommend it to anyone, I did however go to the Lu Ross in ventura and it was a great experience for the same price, her hair was washed cut and styled and the people were fantastic! read more

The staff was nice and my service was pretty good. No complaints at all ... nails are nice and shiny, toe nails bright red. And with the Yelp offer both were $19 and I walked away with a $6 credit. I went in for a hair cut and I used the yelp discount so it came out to $3.50! My stylist Nancy however seemed a little new and so she had to have a lot of assistance with my hair cut. When she was done I was a little anxious because I felt like it was still cut pretty unevenly but I asked if one of the teachers could even it out and look it over once more and she did. Although some pieces are still uneven in the back, I like my short hair now and I guess you do get what you pay for. read more

Brought 4 out 5 of my kids here to get fresh hair cuts for the summer and I was super happy from start to finish. From when I made the appointment and asked the receptionist what she suggested what time was best to come in, to the very end when my last kid was through. The 4 different girls were very professional, polite, and went above and beyond what they had to do. My 2 girls got their hair curled when I know they didn't have to, my oldest daughter loved her haircut and her new look and my son looks super with his new flat top :) They paid attention to detail, made sure their little client was happy and that mom was too. Prices are ridiculously affordable, whether on a budget or not, I really felt like we left a professional salon. So much so I made an appointment for myself. My only suggestion is to not be in a hurry, be patient and let the students do their thing, it's worth it. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more
