I recently visited with a huge group of about 20 colleagues for a farewell lunch, and Mizu handled our massive party flawlessly. The star of the show was their lunch special. You can get two 6-piece rolls (basic options like tuna, salmon, and California) for just $11 or three 6-piece rolls for $13. Both options come with a fresh green salad and hot miso and tofu soup. I had the three-roll lunch special with Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Spicy Yellowtail rolls.. all of the rolls tasted great and the freshness of the ingredients was obvious. Other folks in our party enjoyed the tempura shrimp and vegetable appetizer, which were freshly flash-fried and crispy, and bento boxes of teriyaki chicken. The quality and value at Mizu are both amazing. What really blew me away, though, was the service. Taking care of 20 people at once during a busy lunch rush is no easy feat, but the kitchen didn't miss a beat. They stepped it up a notch and got everyone's appetizers and entrees out incredibly fast. Everyone ate together, the orders were perfectly accurate, and the staff was so attentive. My goodness, their food was good! My boyfriend's pork was easily the best fried pork we've ever had at a Japanese restaurant. He hated that they put a paper doily under his pork though. We understand it was to absorb grease or for decoration but it took him a few minutes to pull all of it off of his food. I recommend they just leave that out of the dining experience. My chicken teriyaki was great too. Our only complaint is having to ask twice for basic things such as a straw or utensils. The ambience is modest yet serene. Definitely my go to sushi take out spot for the last few years!! Their food is very consistent and I get good quality rolls that are typically better than competing spots nearby. However, they recently started charging for additional sauces. They're still takeout only and do not have an indoor seating option. This place is owned by a Chinese family. I think they may be the same owners as the business next door. Having said that, it IS the best sushi in the area for your standard fare. Whether it be for the rolls or sushi/sashimi, their fish is very fresh and their eel, tempura and other dishes are quite good. I'm not really a fan of their chicken teriyaki as it is more of a pan fried piece of chicken with teriyaki sauce poured on top of it. Not sure if they do this but, would prefer the type that is of dark meat that has been well marinaded. It doesn't taste that way. Still, it is tasty and I have ordered it multiple times. I think if you're going to go for the teriyaki, go for the salmon. I usually stick to the sushi and rolls. The standard rolls are good as well as many of the specialty rolls. read more

Had a huge tempura craving, and Mizu gave me my fix. Their unique sushi pizza is a handful of sashimi on a scallion pancake and it's super delicious. Their tempura wasn't super crispy even though I ate it within 10 minutes of picking it up, but the taste was still good. The rolls were also your standard spicy rolls, had a tiny kick, and were satisfying. I shouldn't have trusted the reviews and gone with my instinct. I don't know how people think this is awesome sushi. Go to Nozomu in New Hope PA and then come back and tell me this is good. 1. The rice seasoning has preservatives in it. Not a big deal for most but huge for me. 2. Sushi is usually melt in your mouth- except for octopus and squid and my yellowtail was crunchier than squid. Hard and crunchy and just ewwww. The salmon was average. Will never come back, sorry. I don't want to chew hard on raw fish. It should be soft and buttery if it is even half way decent. read more

Visited because it's one of the few 4-star Japanese places around the area. The owner was obviously Chinese and the waitresses were nice people. I came in with low expectation and the result was somewhat expected. I ordered a chirashi that came with a classic miso soup (likely powder) and salad. In the beginning, I was quite surprised about the quality of sake and buri, but was quite disappointed with the saba (which is something I dislike regularly) and tuna (that came with shiso). The tuna had an extremely fishy smell and I suspect it was not very fresh. But the shiso, too, had a very weird taste (which is extremely rare). But besides the tuna and shiso, my only problem was that the wasabi wasn't fresh (which happens all the time so didn't care as much). Overall, the store was clean and parking was available in front of the store. In October, my family and I came for good lunch with sashimi boat for two, sushi boat for two and some good rolls. Also, good appetizers of tempura! They are all fresh and yummy! This is definitely a sushi place to go for, simple, casual but good fresh sushi! Tonight in November, we came here for the other Sunday dinner. I had special Narato sushi roll without rice. It came with ponzu soy sauce. It's delightful! Cucumber cut in thinly slice and wrap the tuna, salmon, white tuna and avocado. It's good and refreshing. My son had a kid's bento box that comes with chicken teriyaki with bed of onion and bean sprouts, shrimp and vegetables tempura, steamed shu Mai, rice and few slices of orange. Mizu (Water) is a Chinese owned, Japanese Sushi restaurant on Clarksville Road in West Windsor, NJ. It is in a strip mall with a good Chinese restaurant (Hot Wok), decent Italian (Capuano's), a deli and an Indian grocery, so there are plenty of choices around you. After 3 lunches and/or early dinners, I can say that while everything I have tried has been pretty good, only one thing has stood out as exceptional. The Tuna Dumplings are a pleasant surprise. The Tuna is actually the outer skin of the dumpling, giving it a pinkish color, while the innards is primarily a sweet tasting crab salad. Very enjoyable, and something I had not tried anywhere else. The rest has been attractively presented, but not consistently excellent. My most recent Bento Box was underwhelming. The Yellowtail was past its freshness date and was fishy tasting. The Shumai was not quite hot enough, and left the impression of having been frozen at some time in its life cycle. The Teryaki Salmon was covered with a heavy amber-like glaze that actually visually magnified the texture of the fillet and was too thick on the tongue. It lay on a bed of raw onion which played strangely in my mouth with the sweet tanginess of the Teryaki Sauce. The California Roll was fine. The app salad was primarily Iceberg with the mandatory orange colored Ginger dressing laying on top. It just did not move me. I did sample my lunch mates' various dishes, especially the Spicy Tuna, which were pretty good. On past occasions I have been completely satisfied with the offerings here, but because of the consistency issue, 3 Stars is where Mizu belongs for now. Put more effort into the more mass produced items, and the rankings would easily move up. read more
