    Chicken Tendern Benedict
    Christopher J.

I haven't been to Modern Malt in FOREVER and stopped in for brunch while waiting for my flight to stop being delayed. We started with a carafe of mimosa and then got a couple brunch entrees. I ordered the Chicken Tender Benedict and my friend ordered the Breakfast Poutine. My entree was absolutely delicious. I got it with tater tots - because why not! I asked for them to be extra crispy and they came out exactly the way I asked. My friend loved her dish. She was absolutely full and couldn't finish it. The only knock is on our server not doing a lap and checking in at all. I wanted some dipping sauce for my tater tots and didn't get it until I was almost done with my meal. If I didn't flag her down I'm sure I wouldn't have seen her until we were ready for the check. Either way happy to be there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was very clean and pretty quiet around 930AM on a Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely come back when I'm in town again.

Went to try out the new Modern Malt location for a lake breakfast/early lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant it's self is ok, it's in a large open room with booths and tables. There is also a small bar. Food I believe is the same as the downtown location. My husband got the Loot (fried chicken Benedict on biscuit served with side of potatoes and I got the houvous ranchero omelet. My husband loved his food and taught it was very flavorful. I liked my omelet and the potatoes. Omelet was suppose to come with toast (options for toast are white, wheat, and rye; I chose white) but was missing when the meal arrived. I don't care much for toast so I didn't say anything. You can add pancakes to any meal for $4, so my husband added chocolate chip pancakes; these were really good. Alcohol is served here both beer and liquor. There are several specialty drinks. The reason for the 4 star review is: no toast with meal and plate was dirty when dropped off at table (see picture below) but the reason for the mess on the plate was the stuffing of the omelet. Worth a visit if looking for breakfast in the area.

    What Came First Sandwich

This was my first time at modern malt and I was not impressed. The atmosphere is cool and everything was clean. The service was alright. We saw our waiter three times and then it took 10 minutes to get our check. I had to ask for it. The food.... I was not thrilled with. I got a fried chicken sandwich with scrambled egg, chipotle aioli sauce and cheddar cheese. But it basically was cheddar cheese with some chicken and egg and I couldn't taste the sauce. The chicken was tender but very greasy. The cheddar cheese was just so overwhelming! I had a side of tater tots that were not as crispy as they looked and also very greasy. I wouldn't be opposed to going back and trying something else like the pancakes or a breakfast dish but I honestly probably won't and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

This place was really good. Went at 1pm only 8 other people in the restaurant. Music isn't to loud. Food is great, service was kind and prompt.

This was a nice, chill breakfast spot! Our waiter was very attentive and kind, and the food was very filling. It was very loud when we came and tons of kids, but I didnt mind that. I wasnt in love with my lott benedict because it was a little dry, but it was good enough!

We went here for the first time for lunch on a Monday afternoon, greeted immediately with a smile and sat in a booth. Our waitress acknowledged us to let us know she'd be there shortly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant clean, bright and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordered Bloody Marylands to start (delicious) couldn't decide between 3 items, waitress was knowledgeable about all items so I decided on General Tso's waffles my husband ordered Short rib Patty melt. First bite my husband said "  That's real friggin good "  will skip the powdered sugar on the waffles next time made it too sweet . Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Will be back!

Definitely enjoyed not having to go to the city for once to get a "fancy/aesthetically pleasing" brunch! We enjoyed our first visit here, and this will likely be our go to brunch place based on the location alone. The prices were a little on the high end, but pretty standard for restaurants like this especially during the pandemic. We got the meat lovers breakfast bowl, which wasn't as great as we had hoped, it was a little bland for our liking. The totchos were fabulous; the queso was phenomenal and the dish overall was really appetizing. The Oreo Stuffed French Toast.... just like the menu said "yes, it's as good as it sounds." My only gripe with the Oreo French toast was that it needed to be cooked longer/more thorough. The filling definitely doesn't taste bad cold, but the bread only had a few warm spots and was otherwise a little chilled/room temp which I wasn't really loving. It is obviously premade so that it stays together in the stack but the execution of how it is actually served to the table needs a little work. The flight wasn't bad, we didn't love all the flavors but there wasn't a ton of options that really peaked our interest so we played it safe with four berry-flavored ones. Overall the staff was friendly and it was a nice treat, but something about $84 for brunch for 3 adults just doesn't sit right with me no matter how pretty it is lol

When my partner and I walked in, we were greeted by a man at the counter and mentioned it was our first time visiting. His response was about as uninterested as it gets. Instead of offering a menu or any guidance, he simply pointed off to the side and told us to order when we were ready. Not exactly a welcoming first impression. The space itself was small, with a few tables, drink coolers, baked goods, and smoothie options. After placing our order, we waited...and waited. After exactly 40 minutes, I finally asked about the status, especially after watching another couple come in after us, order, and leave with their food before we received ours. I understand that takeout and delivery orders are part of the business, but in-house customers should not be completely overlooked. There was no communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to acknowledge the delay. It genuinely felt like we didn't matter as customers. And for what? Two sandwiches--a roast beef and a turkey. Having worked in restaurants myself, I can confidently say that should not take 40 minutes under normal circumstances. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough to warrant one. We will not be returning. Save yourself the time and look elsewhere.

Even though the restaurant only had two large parties and wasn't particularly busy, we still waited 35 minutes to be seated. That alone didn't make sense, but things only went downhill from there. It was my daughter's birthday, and we were hoping for a fun brunch. Our server started off friendly, but that changed quickly. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time--a chai tea for me, a specialty alcoholic milkshake for my daughter, and no drink for her boyfriend, plus three entrées and a poutine. The drinks took 50 minutes to arrive. The food took over an hour and a half. During all this, the server seemed to avoid our table entirely. When my daughter's boyfriend finally managed to get her attention--very politely, even mentioning that he himself is a server--he simply asked if she had an estimate on our food. She stood there with her hand on her hip and told us the kitchen was backed up, with "three orders ahead of yours," as if that explained everything. We then asked if the poutine, our appetizer, was at least ready. She said they had to make fresh potatoes for it but that she would "rush it." Eventually, she came back with the poutine, plopped it down on the table, and walked away without a single word. No "here you go," no "do you need anything," and--most importantly--no plates. I ended up getting up and asking the hostess for plates so we could actually eat the appetizer. For a place that markets itself as a "fancy diner" with "Instagram-worthy" dishes, the service and execution were nowhere near acceptable. If you're going to lean into trendy presentation and premium pricing, you need the staff to support it. Hire more people. Train them. Do something--because this was unacceptable from start to finish. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a smooth, enjoyable dining experience. **EDIT** I would like to include the fact of the over priced, over salted, food items don't seem to cover the cost to upgrade your cracked booths so that people's bums are hurt from sitting on them. Needs to be updated and correct staffing issues so that food will be "adequate" for the price. Go anywhere on Westcott than here.

I asked them if they could get me a clean cup and they ended up bringing the same one as the same mark and crumb were still there. For food, our table ordered a few items to share. We got: -CAULIFLOWER WINGS: The chutney/salsa on top of the fried cauliflower was nice and gave the item a little sour kick. However, the cauliflower itself was not cooked fully so not as soft as I wanted it to be. -SYRACUSE POUTINE: The appearance of the poutine was not the best. However, the gravy it came with was very flavorful and tasty. The potatoes themselves were not fried and were in wedge form but went well with the gravy. The small globs of melted cheese on top were a nice complement. -CAJUN SLIDERS: The slider compliments/sauce went well together but the sliders themselves had grill marks on it which gave a bitter bite to those parts of the slider. Additionally, the fried shrimp inside of the slider still had the tail on and so it was a bit of a surprise to bite into a full tail while eating a slider.
