She got the chilereno omelette with Home fries and toast and I got the southwest Burger switching the onions for mushrooms and red potatoes. The only complaint is they gave me home fries as well rather than red potatoes unless their red potatoes look just like homefries. I haven't been to Modern Malt in FOREVER and stopped in for brunch while waiting for my flight to stop being delayed. We started with a carafe of mimosa and then got a couple brunch entrees. I ordered the Chicken Tender Benedict and my friend ordered the Breakfast Poutine. My entree was absolutely delicious. I got it with tater tots - because why not! I asked for them to be extra crispy and they came out exactly the way I asked. My friend loved her dish. She was absolutely full and couldn't finish it. The only knock is on our server not doing a lap and checking in at all. I wanted some dipping sauce for my tater tots and didn't get it until I was almost done with my meal. If I didn't flag her down I'm sure I wouldn't have seen her until we were ready for the check. Either way happy to be there. Went to try out the new Modern Malt location for a lake breakfast/early lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant it's self is ok, it's in a large open room with booths and tables. There is also a small bar. Food I believe is the same as the downtown location. My husband got the Loot (fried chicken Benedict on biscuit served with side of potatoes and I got the houvous ranchero omelet. My husband loved his food and taught it was very flavorful. I liked my omelet and the potatoes. Omelet was suppose to come with toast (options for toast are white, wheat, and rye; I chose white) but was missing when the meal arrived. I don't care much for toast so I didn't say anything. You can add pancakes to any meal for $4, so my husband added chocolate chip pancakes; these were really good. Alcohol is served here both beer and liquor. There are several specialty drinks. The reason for the 4 star review is: no toast with meal and plate was dirty when dropped off at table (see picture below) but the reason for the mess on the plate was the stuffing of the omelet. This was my first time at modern malt and I was not impressed. The atmosphere is cool and everything was clean. The service was alright. We saw our waiter three times and then it took 10 minutes to get our check. I had to ask for it. The food.... I was not thrilled with. I got a fried chicken sandwich with scrambled egg, chipotle aioli sauce and cheddar cheese. But it basically was cheddar cheese with some chicken and egg and I couldn't taste the sauce. The chicken was tender but very greasy. The cheddar cheese was just so overwhelming! I had a side of tater tots that were not as crispy as they looked and also very greasy. I wouldn't be opposed to going back and trying something else like the pancakes or a breakfast dish but I honestly probably won't and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

This morning we decided to order a late breakfast from Modern Malt. I decided to pick it up to make sure we could have it hot. The order Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes with Blackberry Compote Breakfast Burrito Lobster Benedict Two Shakes Time to pick up the order - Ready in 15 - 20 Min. So I got there in about 20 minutes, got to the register to pay, and was told that it would be a little bit, they were running behind. No big deal, I can wait. Pay the bill (cash) and wait. About 15 minutes later the food is ready and they bring it out. No Shakes...so I point that out and they tell me they are sorry, what did I have? etc. No problem...I will wait. I get the shakes, sorry for the problem, ok, have a great day...Home I go. Fast forward 15 minutes. I get the food out, open my meal and I find, lemon curd, butter, some melted white stuff, maybe whip, and NO blackberry compote. So the call... I call, let them know what the problem is...now I am paying $14 for a meal I could have just paid $10 for...I mean I only got pancakes! The girl on the phone wants to find the person that took my order, she is busy, doesn't see anything in the order about the compote, etc. I tell her it is part of the dish and then she realizes what I am saying. She asks if I still want it. Well now I could get sarcastic, no I don't want it, I just thought I would call to waste what little air is available at this point. I told her I wasn't going to drive all the way back up there to get something that they forgot and then I have cold pancakes...but hey, I got compote! She says, ok well sorry about that. Ok...well I have to go and eat my pancakes with, uh no compote. So...IF you are going to get this to go, and IF you feel like having the entire meal, I suggest eating in or checking everything over 2 times...If I had done the 2nd check I would have found the missing compote! read more

Let me first explain there are two Modern Malts, and while my experience at the one downtown was decent, I cannot say the same about Cicero. Plenty of staff so that's not the issue even though no one in site for the first 5 minutes and we looked for them. All 6 were in the kitchen. There were dirty tables with dishes on them though. Food was sub par and not at all the same as what I had when dining downtown. I'll stay away from Cicero location. read more

We went here for the first time for lunch on a Monday afternoon, greeted immediately with a smile and sat in a booth. Our waitress acknowledged us to let us know she'd be there shortly. Definitely enjoyed not having to go to the city for once to get a "fancy/aesthetically pleasing" brunch! We enjoyed our first visit here, and this will likely be our go to brunch place based on the location alone. The prices were a little on the high end, but pretty standard for restaurants like this especially during the pandemic. We got the meat lovers breakfast bowl, which wasn't as great as we had hoped, it was a little bland for our liking. The totchos were fabulous; the queso was phenomenal and the dish overall was really appetizing. The Oreo Stuffed French Toast.... just like the menu said "yes, it's as good as it sounds." My only gripe with the Oreo French toast was that it needed to be cooked longer/more thorough. The filling definitely doesn't taste bad cold, but the bread only had a few warm spots and was otherwise a little chilled/room temp which I wasn't really loving. It is obviously premade so that it stays together in the stack but the execution of how it is actually served to the table needs a little work. The flight wasn't bad, we didn't love all the flavors but there wasn't a ton of options that really peaked our interest so we played it safe with four berry-flavored ones. Overall the staff was friendly and it was a nice treat, but something about $84 for brunch for 3 adults just doesn't sit right with me no matter how pretty it is lol read more

We were seated almost immediately, but it took a good five minutes for anyone to actually come to our table and ask us what we wanted to drink. My wife and I each ordered a bloody Mary, and as usual, the server asked us if we were ready to order our food at the same time. (I normally wait to order my entrée until after I receive my drink or an appetizer for fear that my food might come out before my appetizer or my drink.) So of course, my wife and I each received our breakfast super fast, but our bloody Mary's were nowhere to be found. The waiter did the usual drive-bys informing us that our bloody Mary's were coming up... But that's an old serving trick just to keep you from getting angry. By the time the bloody Mary's came out, my wife had finished her food, and mine was half-eaten... getting cold. The reason I had any food left at all by the time the drink came out was because I was also waiting for the hot sauce that I requested. This wouldn't have bothered me as much ordinarily, except when looking around, nobody was moving with any urgency: our waiter was apparently oblivious to the notion that I wanted the hot sauce FOR my hot food, and that we ordered the bloody Marys to enjoy DURING breakfast - not AFTER, And the bartenders didn't seem to be making any drinks with any concern for timing them with the meals. I would've expected them to be bustling back there considering the apparent backlog of drinks they had to make before they finally got to our bloody Mary's. A dining out pet peeve of mine has always been when the restaurants charge you a hefty premium for their drinks, under the guise that they are "bottomless" - whether it be soft drinks, or coffee - and then you only get one pour during your meal. In modern malt Cicero, We were each charged $3.30 for a tiny cup of coffee... and would not have gotten a refill had we not grabbed the attention of one of the runners. That was after we were finished with our food. (I kid you not: the topping off was an inch short of the rim.) My advice to them would be that if you're gonna put out breakfast food quickly, you need to coordinate it with the complicated drink menu that makes your restaurant's breakfast/brunch so special. All in all, the food was good. The menu was exciting and interesting, and I saw many options that I would've gladly tried. but in the end, I was reminded of why we stopped going to the original downtown location years ago: inconsistent, slow, and generally uninspired service. read more

I've had some waffles in my life but this place has a waffle that is straight sugar. I couldn't believe that there could be a waffle made of sugar one bite and I was not impressed. Service was ehh and the omelette was cold. Not exactly sure why the waffle tasted like it's batter was so sugary. If u want sugar on sugar go here if you would rather have a good meal skip this one. Pretty Awesome! Great food! Service was a bit slow, but due to Covid and staffing issues I completely understand.

The place just opened up so we figured we would get a chocolate malted shake, so I ordered one and tan over to pick it up. The girl at the front check out spot went to make sure it was ready and she came back with this cup which wasn't that big (asked for large) but they obviously didn't make them that size. It looked like it was vanilla with chocolate syrup drizzled down the inside of the cup. She didn't put the exact amount of cash I had and couldn't figure out what to do next. She asked another girl that was working what to do and she said just figure out the change needed but the girl wanted the manager who was outside at the time so like 5 mins went by and I told her the amount of change I was suppose to get back and another girl said you can't do it that way your drawer will be off but it wouldn't be because she rang the milkshake in and that's all that matters so I understand it's new but by the time I got back to the truck my milkshake was water it didn't taste like any malt was put in it and it definitely tasted like vanilla I could taste only a hint of chocolate which was squirted on the inside of the cup. Very very disappointed seems how the name is modem malt you would think when ordering a malted shake it would come with malt. Probably won't go back read more
