Do not sleep on Sammy's like I've been. My friend has been raving about this place for at least a year and I'm so glad I finally found myself in North Syracuse (and starving) last week. I had the Chicken Rice plate (small) and it did not disappoint in flavor nor price (where can you get lunch for 9.99 these days anyway!?). The menu is huge with sandwiches and plates such as mine pictured below. There is a small halal section (which the plates are under). I don't know what more to say, it was excellent. We recently decided to give Sammy's NYC Deli a try, and unfortunately, it was a decision we quickly regretted. When my partner and I walked in, we were greeted by a man at the counter and mentioned it was our first time visiting. His response was about as uninterested as it gets. Instead of offering a menu or any guidance, he simply pointed off to the side and told us to order when we were ready. Not exactly a welcoming first impression. The space itself was small, with a few tables, drink coolers, baked goods, and smoothie options. After placing our order, we waited...and waited. After exactly 40 minutes, I finally asked about the status, especially after watching another couple come in after us, order, and leave with their food before we received ours. I understand that takeout and delivery orders are part of the business, but in-house customers should not be completely overlooked. There was no communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to acknowledge the delay. It genuinely felt like we didn't matter as customers. And for what? Two sandwiches--a roast beef and a turkey. Having worked in restaurants myself, I can confidently say that should not take 40 minutes under normal circumstances. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough to warrant one. We will not be returning. Save yourself the time and look elsewhere. read more

I am proud to say that I like to write honest reviews based off my experiences with local businesses. I try my best to not really shine the light on negative experiences because it does impact the businesses. Unfortunately- we had such a poor experience at Sammy's that I felt the need to share. The space itself is fine. There are a handful of casual tables that if you were just grabbing a bite you could sit for a little. I was actually really excited to see all their menu items but we had intentionally gone there because we were in the mood for sandwiches. I just had gotten out of work & was excited to just have something quick & easy for a "deli" to make. We ordered the Roast Beef Supreme Hero & the Caesar Squeeze Hero. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived so again believing it would be reasonably quick. It took them 40 minutes & us having to address the team about our sandwiches to get them. I believe there was even a comment made that they had some how forgotten our ticket as they did have many DoorDash orders coming in. We finally received our sandwiches & waited to open them once we got home. It was highly disappointing to open our boxes only to find lazily made sandwiches that we waited 40 minutes for. The cheese in the roast beef was just a folded slice of store bought cheese slices. The roast beef was fine but there really wasn't anything else to note about the underwhelming sandwich other than I did like the roll. The Caesar Squeeze was equally underwhelming & the fries we got were sparse while also being cold. Paying $30 for a highly underwhelming bite to eat- I wouldn't even call it a meal- was disheartening. They had a vast menu so who knows maybe on the off chance we're in the area & everything else is closed we MIGHT try them again. read more

This new deli was very clean and had lots of choices for food. Great easy to read electronic menu boards. Salads, bowls, breakfast items, sandwiches, pastries, cakes and coffee and drinks. They have NYC bagels but they do have to toast them because they come in refrigerated/ frozen (?). I prefer a fresh untoasted bagel but I went with lightly toasted. It definitely needed to be toasted longer. I had cream cheese and bacon and I asked for tomato, which was extra...no problem. I don't mind paying extra if I add something on, but really, 1 slice of tomato for .75 ?? They really should have put at least two slices on. Clean, streamlined, well-lit, easy-to-read menus. The (I am assuming) owner was well dressed and clearly took great pride in his establishment. He was cleaning, checking in with customers, and helping the counter staff with orders. The food was incredible - so nicely spiced. It tasted like the food that I've had from home middle eastern kitchens. I ordered the platter that came with rice and chicken, a salad, and sauce. I asked for garlic and hot sauce which was a good move! Highly recommend if you can handle some heat. We found a small table and sat and enjoyed lunch while the restaurant continued bustling. A gentleman from behind the grill came over with a few things for us to try which was a lovely surprise! I ended up grabbing a cookie on the way out, which was a little pricey (even the cashier warned me!), but HUGE and really good! Perfect for splitting. I will definitely be back when I'm craving that classic Halal chicken and rice. Next time I plan on trying it with lamb! Give it a go if you're in the area. Being from NYC I stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. They have a huge menu so you're sure to find something you like. My benchmark is a hot Reuben sandwich on rye. They use roast beef instead of pastrami which was fine by me. It was delicious! Free chips as well. The owner came around and gave the seated customers an appetizer which at first looked odd but it actually tasted good, ( and it was free, see pic). There's a good variety of food and desserts that this deli offers but my overall experience was disappointing. Parking and seating is limited, and the place seemed understaffed. I ordered a small lamb plate but was charged for a large, and a chicken gyro listed at $8.99 ended up costing $11.99. Unfortunately, I wasn't given a receipt, so I couldn't double-check the charges and the cashier wasn't helpful even after I questioned the total. The chicken gyro also missed the mark. It didn't have the extra white sauce I requested, and the chicken was overcooked and dry. To be fair, it could've just been an off day. But between the service issues, pricing discrepancies, and food quality, I'd be hesitant to return unless things improve. read more

Sammy's NYC Deli & Grill is a recently opened, family-owned and operated halal-style deli in North Syracuse. The family also operates several delis in New York City, so the art of running a deli is clearly in their blood. I had been keeping an eye on the location before it opened and was eager to visit once the doors were finally open. Inside, the space has been completely redecorated, evoking the atmosphere of a classic New York City bodega with the large counters, bright digital menu boards, and extensive food and drink selection. Their offerings are impressively varied--burgers, halal platters, wraps, deli sandwiches, breakfast items, fresh desserts, a wide drink selection, and even an expansive snack and candy selection. As a breakfast sandwich enthusiast, I was drawn to their steak, egg, and cheese sandwich - something you surprisingly don't see on many menus for some reason. I was greeted by Sammy himself--friendly, personable, and quick with a joke to make customers feel at home. He made a point of saying that if something isn't on the menu, they're happy to customize it or make your own creation. Sammy showed me a creation one of his workers (I believe his sons) were working on, and I feel like they kind wanna capitalize on the TikTok crazy bodega creations style food trend, for people who are adventurous. I was also offered a complimentary iced coffee, which I gladly accepted. The sandwich was hearty and satisfying, though I would have preferred a touch more seasoning on the steak. Before writing this review, I wanted to sample some of their lunch and dinner options. I love a good halal meat & rice platter, so I ordered a large chicken-over-rice platter with hot and white sauce, as well as a falafel gyro for my wife. Sammy again took my order personally, this time offering free iced tea, and I picked up a few unique gummy candies from their display. Although the staff is clearly still learning the menu--unsurprising given they had only been open for about two weeks and a large menu to learn--my order was prepared quickly. My total for the two meals and candy came to around $26. In a display of hospitality, Sammy also offered me a burger and fries that had been made incorrectly for another order. My wife and I enjoyed everything. The burger was very good, and while the fries were standard frozen fries, they were still a welcome extra. My wife enjoyed her generously portioned falafel gyro, which was listed as "small" on the menu but was anything but, and my chicken-and-rice platter was excellent. Many platters of this kind taste similar, but Sammy's has a distinct flavor--likely from the hot sauce which I felt like had some other spice in it--that makes it stand out. The portion was so large it easily made two meals for me. Overall, Sammy's NYC Deli & Grill delivers great food, generous portions, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. While the team is still settling into their rhythm, it's clear they care about their customers and I imagine they will only get better with experience. I had a chopped cheese on a sub roll. It was not my favorite sandwich, I found it to be somewhat plain compared to other sandwich options in the area. What was lacking in the sandwich was made up for in service. The staff was extremely friendly, and offered me and my dining partner samples of some other menu items. There were some seating options, but I could see them being full during a lunch rush. This would be a good place to stop for takeout lunch. read more

We ordered a chopped cheese and fries, and tried a half Rueben. The chopped cheese was the best I've had. The flavor went through all the meat, and the lettuce and tomato were not drowned out. The sub roll was delicious! I could only eat half- it was a full meal. The Rueben was thinly sliced pastrami that was grilled before assembly. The bread was not greasy and the sandwich was not too salty. I could eat it with my hands and could taste the sauerkraut, cheese and dressing without them overwhelming the whole flavor profile. I wanted to like this place more, but perhaps they had a hectic day full of orders. I was craving a burger, and this place had a good number of positive reviews. I ordered a head of time but did have to wait a little bit. Not insanely long, but they seemed busy. There's a handful of parking spots, but not super huge, the person in the front seemed friendly. They've got a ton on the menu and the place itself smelled great. My favorite part was the black and white cookie, my first and it exceeded expectations. I did order a burger, bacon smash burger and wanted just a bunch of meat and cheese but unfortunately, I got the wrong burger, no bacon whatsoever. Sadly, on top of that, there was a very small slice/chunk of orange peel I found in the burger, in a rush they were, indeed. Despite the peel and the wrong burger all together, the burger tasted good, I wish I would have just got what I wanted, without the citrus surprise. My friends told me I should check this place out so on Friday I was in the area and stopped for lunch. The parking lot was full but I was able to get the last spot. It's small inside but they do have about 5 tables and a counter with seats that faced outside. I was greeted immediately and given a menu. They have many choices but my friend suggested the grilled chicken over rice so I ordered that. I also ordered a coffee and noticed I wasn't charged for it? I asked about that and was told it was on the house!! Wow!! Not only was the coffee on the house but the owner came around and offered me a free soup sample and a free empanada. The owner "Sammy" was so gracious and thanked me for the business. It was so refreshing and the meal was great! I got the white sauce and hot sauce in the side and put it on my chicken and rice. The hot sauce was spicy just like the cashier warned me. I tried the ube cookie for desert. To me it tasted like a plain sugar cookie. The cookie was ok and large but was like 5.29. Altogether a great lunch. I was again in the area the next day with my sister and I went to lunch there again. This time the owner was not present but the same cashier. I tried the lamb gyro. It was the best gyro I've had in the Syracuse area. The meat was so tender and seasoning perfect. The cashier came around with free chicken soup. I also got my free coffee. My wife and I were looking for a nice lunch so stopped in during a Saturday at lunchtime. They were busy but service counter was moving along which gave us time look over the large menu. The had a large breakfast selection along with fresh made shacks, smoothies, burgers panni's sandwiches, subs, wraps,, platters and salads along with a variety of salads. Huge selection to choose from, my wife ordered a lamb with rice and salad platter with a slice of red velvet cake and I ordered a classic Reuben on dark rye toasted. Service was kinda quick considering there was about 10 people ahead of us it only took about 10 minutes. My wife tried the red velvet cake while we waited and she said it was amazing. When our meal came my wife's platter was huge. 2 people could have eaten it with leftovers. If was hot and flavorful and the salad that came with it was very good. My Reuben came with a bag of chips which was on top of my container because the Reuben took up the whole box. One of the best Reubens I've had, the bread was toasted not greasy. Not overly done with dressing, plenty of sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Great sandwich. Prices were very reasonable for how much food and customer service was above average very good.. Loved the tuna salad sandwich I picked up yesterday 3/17/2026. 1/2 sandwich was super filled and I had lettuce tomato and onions added. Next time I would get a roll, as they looked awesome. It was only 7.99! The container it came in , also included French fries, I could only eat half of my half sandwich. Portions are Huge. The deli case was overflowing with fresh cut vegetables and fresh cut fruits. It's not just sandwiches there, there are many hot food choices for full meals. Cool addition to the area deli scene. Large rather eclectic menu. Breakfast and dinner options available all day. Friendly, attentive service; reasonable prices. My wife and I ordered a warm pastrami melt, decent tasting hero. I was disappointed that the pastrami was cold cut variety as opposed to brisket type, pickle and spicy deli mustard made it sort of a "one note" sandwich. Slow service, nobody can hear a thing when you ask them for food; I've also had food poisoning once from there after getting one of their smash burgers. The store needs better management and ears if they have any idea of how to run a kitchen and serve the public. Being from Long Island, finding a bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll breakfast sandwich in Central NY is like finding a unicorn. Found that unicorn here and it's the honest to goodness real deal. Everything else I've had there (chicken over rice, burgers, etc...) are also on point. Staff is friendly and hard working (especially the spunky girl with that great authentic real-deal attitude at the cash register). That Sammy's is less than a mile from my house in the village has put my eating healthy will power to the test! The worst Citrus Kick drink I have ever had. Not only was it horrible, I waited 25 minutes for them to make that and a turkey club sandwich that took 15 minutes for a grand total time of 40 minutes. The person at the front counter was at least apologetic, she asked the owner to make the drink that I had been waiting 25 minutes for to make. He made the drink and said "we made you a large drink"...MF'er, that's what I ordered! SMH. Needless to say I won't go back there again. As for the turkey club... the bacon was totally burnt.
