Came to Modern Market to take advantage of a buy one get one offer. They used to have $10 bowl days on Mondays, but don't eat here as much since they got rid of that special. I ordered the Thai Coconut salad that comes with mixed greens, herb-marinated roasted chicken, chile sweet potato, toasted coconut, cucumber, pickled onion, cilantro, peanut, peanut mango dressing. The dressing was very delicious and I subbed the seared tuna for the chicken and added avocado. I had to swap out the tuna because the first one I got tasted fishy and a bit rancid, but the replacement was better. I got the Lemongrass Tuna bowl to go that comes with Line-caught seared tuna, rice and quinoa, carrot, cucumber, pickled onion, jalapeño, cilantro, peanut, lemongrass aioli, chile vinegar. I cut the jalapeño and added avocado to this one as well. They have a great rewards program and app. I ordered from the counter and uploaded my receipt into the app for points. This was my first time at Modern Market and I wasn't impressed. Went for a late lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. I built my own protein bowl and got salmon, veggies, and mashed potatoes. The salmon was very overcooked and cold, the veggies were cold as well, and the rice & quinoa were very undercooked. Flavors were ok, but I was expecting more from this restaurant, especially because of things I've seen and heard. Don't know that I'd try something from here again for a while. The food was light and refreshing! I ordered the Blackened Chicken Mango Bowl to go, and it was so filling and fresh. The chicken was moist, the quinoa and black beans were cooked perfectly, and the salad greens were a great touch. However, I wish there had been more mangoes and sauce. I was most excited about those things, but there was barely any. The sauce was only over the chicken, leaving the bowl pretty dry. If there was a container of sauce on the side, this would have brought the bowl to a 5 for me. I also saw a lime featured in the picture of the bowl on the menu, and I think that would have also helped with the dryness. The flavors of each individual item added to the bowl were fine otherwise. The portion was perfect for 1 meal. It looked like a large portion, but it was so light that it was just enough for a dinner. Prices were a bit high for this type of bowl. I believe it was around $17 before taxes. Overall, I would probably get it again, but in person instead to ensure I receive the necessary sauce to complete the bowl. this is ONLY reviewing the horrible corporate company. price gouging like crazy for very small portions. it's ridiculous, you could pay 12 dollars for a sandwich that is smaller than the size of your palm, and i have pretty small hands. the workers however are fabulous, always very kind and happy to fix mistakes. when i complained about a ridiculously small sandwich (online where i ordered the sandwich looks 3x the size) they were very polite and remade it bigger for me, but explained that that sandwich is just one of the smaller ones even though it's just as expensive as the others. overall too expensive for what little quality you get, however, employees are awesome and deserve a raise read more

Kudos to Modern Market for having a $7.99 Tuesday bowl deal. My friend and I are in the office on Tuesdays and go here for lunch just about every week-- it's a steal you can't miss. The first time I came here they forgot our chicken and gave us to-go orders despite us saying we were sitting in, so that was a bummer. I was prepared to give four stars, but the second time redeemed it. We got the Buddha Bowl with substituted chicken and it was absolutely delicious-- like genuinely some of the best food I've had in a long time. And for being $7.99 the portions were super generous. My girlfriend and I ate here 1/16/25 and the flavors were not bad. It's the Curry Salmon dish that surprised me; I didn't expect it to be so raw. The thick half was cooked right, but the thinner end of it was completely raw. I approached the older Spanish speaking woman by the grill and to tell her that the salmon wasn't cooked. I spoke in Spanish and I didn't want to offend her by telling her her cooking was bad. She looked at the fish, her face developed an extremely smug expression, and she just turned and ignored me. The younger woman who works the register saw and was shocked by the raw salmon. She was immediately apologetic and amicably gave us our money back for that dish (I ate my banh mi chicken sandwich and it was good but lacked key banh mi flavors). Their menu items are clearly described and customizable, so you're getting what you order, no need to guess what a "cute" or vague description is going to get you. I had a gift card for DoorDash, and I hate wasting money on delivery, so when I saw I could order for pickup from some restaurants, Modern Market seemed like a good option. I got a huge salad and maxed out the gift card adding toppings and sides. Specifically, I got the Summer Seared Ahi Salad, Tomato Basil Soup, and Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes. This should last me for a few meals! When I pointed out that they put one wrong topping on the salad, they were glad to give me the requested topping. Since it's counter-service, it wasn't a problem to take my to-go order to eat at one of their tables but I wouldn't do this regularly unless I had another situation like this. I've never been to Modern Market before but the menu looked really good. I made an online order for a full banh mi (sub tofu for chicken) which came with a side of chips. It wasn't till I got to my hotel room and took two bites that I thought something was off. It had a whole two skinny pieces of tofu, absolutely drenched in aioli, and none of the cilantro and basil that was supposed to come with it. I got a bunch of small, broken pieces of chips, too. My boyfriend got the WORST stomach virus after eating here...I'm talking fever, chills, liquid bowel movements every 30 min, and having to miss a required work event & paying for an extra night at the hotel because he literally could not get out of bed for 3 days straight. We knew it was Modern Market because I experienced loose bowels after eating some of his leftovers the next day. Putting the stomach bug aside, awful service. When we arrived (during normal dinner time on a Sunday evening), there was a line of about 8 people in front of us who were all clearly waiting for a while. There were a couple cooks working but no body at the cash register for a good 10 minutes while we were there. None of the employees even made eye contact with us when there were clearly a long line of customers waiting for help. I ordered the Winter Harvest Salad, thinking it would be equivalent to sometime like Mother Earth from Flower Child...it was nothing near as appetizing, especially after paying $15. My partner ordered the Curry Salmon Bowl, which was what nearly killed him and ruined our trip to Austin. Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER SALMON FROM HERE. Someone should seriously report this food as a public health hazard because the illness I witnessed was NO JOKE. This was my first dining experience during my Austin trip and for me, it started the trip off right! I hate feeling sluggish and stuffed after eating. If anything, it's an indicator that I didn't nourish it properly. This restaurant reminds me of a cross between Tender Greens and True Food Kitchen. You pay at the counter and they bring it to you. The patio is really cute if the weather permits. We enjoyed people-watching at the bar facing the street. I forgot the name of the bowl I ordered, but it came with roasted veggies, and I was pleasantly surprised to see something other than the usual squash medley. I ordered the salmon plate with sweet potatoes and roasted veggies as my sides. The salmon plate came with chimichurri and a lemon, but even that did not help at all. The salmon was literally put on the grill with no onions, peppers, or other spices. This was the same for the potatoes and vegetables, just super flat. I use to like going here, the food is decent. But it has never been the best kept place. The tables are RARELY cleaned and the workers seem to not care about any mess that's in the restaurant. I came in today and decided to dine in (my mistake), and I asked the worker for a lemonade cup when I ordered, so they were aware that I would be getting lemonade. Then I walk over and see the lemonade in the clear containers in the pictures with NO lids on them and no way to get the lemonade out of the containers. The dispenser was dirty with lemonade spilled all over and some terrible job of cleaning it up. Just filthy. I ask the worker "how do I get the lemonade?" To which they stare at me blankly and say "what do you mean?" I ask "have you seen the lemonade?" Then they hand me a ladle and tell me I have scoop it out myself.
