We bought some burgers from the Mr. Sandwich food truck while on Rainey St. with some friends. The burgers were good and tasty. Not sure if all the burgers are always cooked well-done, but that's how ours were made (and was never asked if I wanted otherwise). Also ordered a side of fried plantains that came with a small cup of ketchup. They were harder than I was expecting, and not to salted. Next time I think I'd just order the fries. Waited at the window to order for several minutes while the guy took a phone call, then had a hard time hearing him take my order since he was still on his call and had his mask on (pandemic issues...and maybe this is where he asked how I wanted my burgers cooked?? Who knows, couldn't hear him!). Then it took awhile for the order to come out. By the time I got the food and back to our table, our friends had already purchased and eaten their food from other food trucks, so that was a bummer. Good option if you're in the food truck park. Just be prepared to spend time waiting to order and get your food. Tip: ask if you can have your burger cooked medium or medium rare. If you prefer it that way, of course. read more

The good: This is a food truck located on the busy party street of Rainey. There is outdoor bench-style seating. They were one of the few food trucks in this area that was open during the daytime. The majority of the other options are open later at night when the bar scene is crowded. The bad: The brisket sandwich tasted mostly of just BBQ sauce and the brisket was cut up in small weird chunks. There was melted orange cheese on it that was also unappetizing. We didn't want the caramelized onions so we asked for raw onions but the cashier/cook didn't speak English so the most we could communicate was "no onions." Also, the payment machine was all in Spanish (for selecting tip, signature, etc) so you better brush up on your Spanish if you're paying by credit card! There were cigarette butts on the ground and on the tables and a homeless person hanging out at the benches as well. I ordered fries at first but they were sold out. Located in a food tuck yard on RAINEY. It was a satisfying place to grab a drunk bite to eat. It was 5:30 on a Sunday so it wasn't too busy. (4/5): OL'GOLY ($11.50): This one is protein-heavy sausage, bacon, and you get a choice of CHICKEN or BEEF or you can mix it. There sweet corn on there but you can't really taste it or see it but I love corn so I don't mind. I thought the portion was nice and it filled us up. (4/5): SURF & TURF ($12.99): We chose beef and it includes shrimp and calamari. The shrimp was big and the squid gave it an interesting texture. The quality of the sandwiches are great. The wait can be long when there are a lot of people ordering and waiting. It is definitely worth a try. read more

I really had to debate on what star I was going to give this place. The burger I ordered was very good, great flavor and put together almost picture perfect. The reason I took a star away was how long it took to get my burger. There was maybe 3 people who ordered in front of me so it wasn't incredibly busy or backed up, but it still took almost 30 minutes for my burger to come out. That is WAY too long to wait for a burger, especially when everyone in the group is waiting for you. I get that it's a small shop, but a wait that long was frustrating. Absolutely amazing... When I think of a sandwich, this is not what I think of. I think of something simple and bland to fill you up for the time being. That is FAR from what you get when you experience Mr. sandwich. I had the pleasure of eating the Surf & Turf sandwich and tried my friend's Texan French Fries... SO GOOD! The owner of Mr. Sandwich has a very service-oriented establishment and knows how to make you feel welcome. Not to mention he can COOK!!! Big surprise here! I was visiting Austin and walking on Rainy street. We were looking for something quick to eat and saw a bunch of food trucks. I decided to try the burger and didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The burger was nice and juicy and didn't fall apart like some burgers do. The fries were also delicious. Very unimpressed. My husband and I decided to give this place a try when we were in the area. We each ordered a burger. I had to repeat my order several times, but it still came out incorrect. The order came with bacon, which was pretty much raw. I ended up scraping this off the burger. My husband and I each got through maybe a third of our burgers before throwing them away. There really wasn't a whole lot of flavor and the patties appeared to be slightly undercooked as well. Probably good that we stopped when we did, as we both felt rather nauseated afterwards. For the price that we paid, I was hoping for better quality. Maybe it was just an off day, but I don't think I will try it again. read more

Ya'll. Listen. I was wandering downtown with my boyfriend, his husband, and their mother and we found a gem. First things first, the service was amazing. It's all of the southern hospitality that you wish for whenever you visit ATX. I wish I could have people like this work everywhere I go. The world would be so amazing. Second things second. We ordered the specialty fries and they were FRESH and hot, but still hella fast. The portion was definitely Texas sized and best of all- DELICIOUS! Lastly, I love the convenience and abundance of seating was perfect for us and provided some much needed shade. If you ever get the chance, you should definitely add this to your lunch plans next time you're in the area. read more

Probably the best burger I've eaten....ever! I had the Howdy burger, which had every meat from all of the animals. Beef patty cooked to perfection and juicy, topped with sliced grilled sausage, grilled chicken, bacon, egg, avacado and some amazing sauce that pulled it all together. The burger was huge and I'm so disappointed that I couldn't finish it all. Highly recommend them. I can't forget to add, the man and woman running this operation were very friendly. I got excited about getting the howdy burger and texan fries. The burger was definitely a frozen Patty, bun tasted like cardboard and no egg to be found. Fries looked promising, but just like the burger also, they were overloaded with salt and Lawry's, so much that it was uneatable. And I don't mind salt.... Huge disappointment. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. A friend and I stopped here for food after a night out. When we placed our order my friend went to pay with her card and the cashier said it wouldn't go through. No biggie, so I give them my card, again, she says it didn't go through. So I pay in cash and we go on our way. 3 days later, both my friend and I have charges on our credit cards on top of my cash payment. They made out with $90 instead of $30!! WHAT A SCAM! After walking around Rainey St for about an hour, we decided to stop and get something to eat. By luck I found Mr. Sandwich. I enjoyed my Longhorn Burger and fries. Cooked perfectly with the bonus being the garlic butter spread on the bun. The staff was great too! read more

I'm glad I picked this place. Had the Howdy burger with fries and it really hit the spot. The burger was tasty and juicy. When I first saw it I thought it was going to be one of those burgers that fall apart in your hands because they're so big. I don't know how they do it but even though it's so big it's still super easy to eat without making a mess. Will definitely come back, found my burger and sandwich spot! Kudos!!! read more

I was craving some Jerk…read morechicken (been in a BBQ food coma) and decided to try Tony's Caribbean food truck...yes, another food truck. I am the most adventurous diner in our household. From speaking with Tony Jr. today, they also have a restaurant in Pflugerville. I ordered jerk chicken, which fell off the bones and came with cabbage, rice and peas and plantain. I have traveled to Jamaica a couple of times, this Jamaican food was the real deal. The jerk chicken was a bit spicey but not set your tongue on fire spicey. The rice and peas along with the cabbage was perfectly seasoned. The standout for me was the sweet plantain, spoken like a plantain connoisseur. The plantain was sweet on the inside and slightly charred on the outside...perfect combination. The only improvement would have been for me to get a side of plantain. My food was delivered fast and hot. Tony Jr. was super personable and friendly. There is seating in the center of the food truck park. You hear tunes being played in the background. The food truck park is at the core of East Austin in a semi-residential area. Street parking is available for diners. I look forward to trying curry goat and oxtails and more.

I got the Bussin fries and here are my thoughts. Crinkly cut fries were pretty good, crispy with good substance. Chicken was crispy on the outside and still juicy inside. My main issue was that the chicken really tasted like it was over-salted. I actually added extra pickles of my own to it to break up some of the salt. Even though, I had a tough time finishing it all just because of the salt content. I must've received a bad batch with a heavy hand. Other than that, the flavor was good, I just wish the chicken wasn't over-salted.
