Modern Market is a new addition in Westlake, adding one to the number of places I'm happy to have a meal with my child. Their focus is on fresh & healthy. To that end, the printed menus at the door don't have a price-list, which I find annoying. OTOH, they do have a calorie count, which I should find annoying but don't :-D The receipt gives a nutritional breakdown, but my receipt clubbed my meal with my son's, making it look like I was stuffing my face before a predicted famine. I wasn't, ya'll. I had the wintergreen salad with tofu added. The half portion, TYVM. The greens were fresh, tofu actually tasted good, and the dressing was flavorful without being greasy. All good things. It had a few too many dates for the salad size, but that's a small price to pay. The kidlet had a pepperoni pizza, which he loved. I didn't try their $2 wine, but we did have the hibisus chia drink (so hipster of us), which was quite yummy. In all, this was a great family dining experience. Nice fresh food. Interesting mesh up of ingredients. I liked their fresh low calorie lemonades (carrot,cucumber mint and original)- hard to believe they were under 50 calories and nicely sweetened. I had a Meridia salad, my cousin had a veggie plate (seasonal vegetable: honey Brussels sprouts, with rosemary mashed potatoes and a small salad). Always a solid, healthy meal. The salmon and the pork choices are both favorites. The sweet potato side is tasty and not too sweet. Miss the hot honey for the pizzas, but still enjoy getting a pizza from here every so often. Family friendly with some limited outdoor seating, as well. Recommend for sure. read more

Nice place. Tried on a friends recommendation. I tried the BBQ sandwich and my friend got the BLT. Both were delicious. No complaints or the flavor or quality. It is a little pricey for the quantity of food you get though. I paid almost $14 for a medium sized sandwich and a few chips. For the price they could be a little more generous with the sides/portions. Try the lemonades. The flavors are great and unique. Lastly, customer service was ok, not great. But it was only one visit. I don't know where to start. The lovely lady that greeted us was super sweet and gave great suggestions. We shared the chipotle steak sandwich and the winter harvest salad...WOW and WOW! The chips offered were ok but the cucumber mint and carrot ginger juices on tap were phenomenal. We also tried the tomato basil soup, also good. BLTA got two thumbs up from the kids. This is the Panera of 2017. They have sandwiches, pizzas, salads and meals. I got a you meal with sesame tofu. Since the tofu came with an Asian flavoring I was looking for Asian side to go with it, but was disappointed to find none. I instead got the Mac and cheese and the roasted veggies. All three of my items were way under seasoned and mostly flavorless. Thanks they have bottles of siracha around to make things enjoyable. This is the best addition to this area in quite a while, foodwise. Me and the hubs went on their second day for dinner. They seem to have a good system with all the kinks worked out. It's really cute inside and there's a small outdoor seating area. I had a dinner plate, where you choose a protein and two sides. You can choose antibiotic free chicken, humanely raised steak, or tofu. I went with the steak, as it's so hard to find humanely raised anything on menus, along with asparagus and mac n cheese. Holy moley it was amazing. The steak was seasoned perfectly and so tender! The asparagus was yum, lemony and garlicky, and the mac n cheese was pretty much perfect. All that for $12.50. The hubs got pepperoni pizza and a half salad with grilled chicken. Their pizza is so good, the crust is crisp and has a good flavor all on its own mmmm. And he kept saying how much he liked the salad. If you knew him, you'd know that's actually kind of a big deal. This is not a man who goes out his way to add greens to his diet. (And btw a half salad is huge, I'm thinking a whole salad is easily big enough for two.) I really liked when he ordered his salad that they asked if he wanted light, medium, heavy or on the side dressing. Most places just gob on the dressing and then you basically taste nothing but that. I like to taste my veggies. Drinks: their soda selection is really cool, it's from a small batch bottler that doesn't use creepy chemicals; they have iced tea plain and flavored; and I believe they have beer on tap, but don't quote me. Other stuff: the receipts show you nutrition information of your food, which is kind of cool. Breakfast is apparently from 8-11 and I'm looking forward to trying that out one weekend. I'm a huge fan of Modern Market and was excited one was opening nearer to our house. My husband and I each had a scramble which came with roasted potatoes and toast. The food was delicious and hot when it was served. There appeared to be a lot of staff in the restaurant and few customers. Most customers were getting to go orders but we dined in. I like the decor. This review is based off of eating here several times. Most times, we have enjoyed the food which is why we kept coming back. We normally like the wintergreen salad and BLT-A sandwich. Tonight however, the entire restaurant was off. When I ordered my salad, the lady specifically asked me if I wanted the dressing tossed in or on the side. I don't care but since she asked, I said tossed. Then when we are going to find a table, all three booths and two tables, about half of the seating, had dirty dishes and cups all over them. I had the pork bahn mi which was okay. Not great or authentic. I also ordered the chicken green chili. It was okay. I called asking about the sodium content. On the menu online, it was said it was 1110 mg. Was hoping was a typo? They weren't sure. My husband had the flatiron steak salad which was decent. Says they are a "healthy" place. I tried this restaurant for lunch for the first time. I ordered a salmon plate with a side of steak. The ordering process was confusing because the menu lists everything in a grouped price, but the register rings everything up a la carte. I got confused and thought I was being charged for a second plate when the side appeared as "steak plate." Well, life goes on. I placed my order as "for here." It came packaged "to-go." In a large, yellow plastic bag, there were two large plastic "plate" boxes with my order (one just had steak). There were also two sets of plastic ware wrapped in plastic. The lady offered to re-plate my food, but the damage is done. Let's at least save the dishes. It was just disappointing that they were really not trying to help me be ecologically responsible. On to the food... The sides were not amazing, but they were not disappointing. The salmon was over-cooked with the consistency of canned salmon but with no moisture. The steak was also over cooked at "well done." It tasted microwaved. I should have took a hint when I ordered it medium and the cashier said it already comes medium-well. It's impossible to get a decent order of steak if it is prepped as medium-well prior to being ordered. What's the point of having a number to wait if the food is already done prior to me ordering? Ironically, the quote on the order buzzer read, "Good food comes to those who wait." Huh. I guess I should have waited longer. read more

Came in at about 2:30pm on a Wednesday. Venue had a few people there. There was a menu outside the door, but it had no prices. Upon entering I noticed that it had a lot of modern wooden decor. After pondering for a while I decided on a ice tea and the Flatiron salad. It didn't take too long to cook (It's basically salad with steak meat). After waiting 20 minutes for them to correct my order, I just asked for a refund. They couldn't figure out how to do a refund either. The staff never apologized or cared about my order. I've had the kale pizza and grilled chicken salad, both were tasty and fresh. I will come back for more dining here; the ingredients are fresh and I like that I can see them prepare some of the dishes, especially the salads, right in front of me. The ambience is pretty chill, the decor is modern and definitely has the Austin vibe to it. Both times that I have gone they were out of my drink choice, (one time it was the white wine and another time it was Blood and Honey on tap). That is my only complaint. read more

Sauce was light which is to my liking on the order and came freshly prepared and almost bibimbap style, with the ability to mix once delivered. Tofu very simple, but the outside delicious with the flavor of the sesame. Sweet potato are a must add to this dish as well for only about $1 extra. This is one of my favorite healthier places to eat a light meal. I appreciate their attention to seasonal flavors, there is always something different to try. I'm a big fan of their soups. My favorite is the Curry Sweet Potato soup, it is spicy, sweet and not over salted. The Wintergreen Salad is my favorite salad, the goat cheese and dates are a great combo with the greens. The pizzas are secretly some of the best you can get in this area, the Bacon Corn pizza is awesome. Also, they have a good loyalty program that's worth enrolling in. One negative: as a pretty frequent customer something has been off with the potatoes that they use in their salads lately, super tough and too crunchy. This is actually my first review on Yelp. I just spontaneously re-downloaded the app solely to praise this place on its food. What I was hoping for was clean healthy ingredients with good portions and a relatively moderate price. I'm not gonna lie I was blown away by the Smoky chicken bowl, the ingredients were fresh but it was the flavors that really hit home. Everything was well seasoned and the main star of the dish was the chicken which was juicy/tender and paired well with the wild rice and Co. I can't believe this Modern Market doesn't have 5 stars! I very rarely leave Yelp reviews, but this is an exception. I'm not sure why, but Austin's (actually yummy) salad scene is hugely lacking. Every salad I've bought since living here has been boring, poorly made, and just blah. When my husband and I tried Modern Market for the first time we were blown away. We make our own salads 90% of the time, and have high standards as far as flavor and the cooking of vegetables/protein. Modern Market is the only exception we've found to Austin's blah salad scene, and we've ordered more than weekly since we first found it. Highly recommend the Market Cobb (add blackened chicken), the Baja Blackened Chicken, and the Thai Coconut salads. read more
