Truthfully, I'm surprised MM doesn't have over 4 stars. I found this gem a few weeks ago and have been back 3-4 times and don't live in the area. They stay fairly busy throughout the COVID situation. I've tried their chicken, shredded pork, and salmon. All delicious, especially the salmon coconut curry plate. If I'm going with something else, I usually pair the chicken or shredded pork with the arugula blue cheese and rosemary sweet potato mash sides. They also have kombucha and a bunch of other drinks as well as a surprisingly delicious chocolate chip cookie (while keeping it gluten free, go figure). I really don't think you can go wrong with whatever sounds good. The portions are also good for a healthier food option. You feel satisfied but not like you're going to have to take an hour nap. read more

Check the menu for full ingredients, but here are my favs: Smoky Chicken bowl - we always request it without the smokeed cream sour cream on top, and its incredibly tasty as is. Sometimes might do double protein, or add on a tofu protein. Buddha Bowl - sooooo good. Tofu gets a bad rep for being bland, but this is always perfectly toasted/baked and the flavor is incredible. Even my husband who doesn't like tofu has agreed this is so good. I always add a side of the chefs handcut roasted sweet potatos because i find it to be a perfect complement to the dish. If you want something simpler, the Hand Carved chicken is only 350 calories and soooo yummy. Sustainable Salmon is only 400 and also high in protein. My husband has gotten the Chicken Banh Mi and I have also tried it, very good! I am also slightly obsessed with their Everything Toast. I usually put this on their gluten free bread, REMOVE the cream, and ADD sun-ripened cherry tomatos. Omg, I have eaten this like 3 days in a row before. Its just perfection. Modern Market earns my coveted "Gamble & Huff" award for boring, formulaic, tired, hipster-wannabe restaurant. It's a lunch disappointment at best, and a distracting and nerve-wracking experience at worst. Great for Californians Modern seems to pride themselves on "farm fresh", but, in the volume they do lunch business, that's seems too good to be true. After all, there aren't many farms nearby in Westlake. And I didn't exactly see "Mom" behind the counter or in the kitchen, despite the featured "inspired by" article on their website. Clever marketing perhaps, but one has to see it in action to be believable. Most of their lunch business seems to be to-go. That creates a bit of chaos in the dining area as the queue for to-go spills over into the tables. It also delays dine-in patrons from receiving their meals as an emphasis seems to be placed on filling the to-go orders first. On the day I dined with a friend, it would have been nearly impossible to fit Modern into a lunch hour, even within walking distance. The salads are overpriced for what you get. Honestly I got more salmon on my salmon salad yesterday at IKEA for less than half the price than I did here with my Salmon Caesar. And, while the salad greens were less plentiful, they seemed fresher at IKEA. How does that happen? Not recommended for convenience, comfort, value, or quality. Wow! We happened upon this place for the first time today, and now I will have to find excuses to be in this neighborhood more often! Modern Market serves up casual yummy food in a modern setting. We had the Buddha bowl and the truffled artichoke pizza, and both were good. Dishes which have a Buddha label are usually bland but not this bowl - it had spiced broccoli and red pepper flakes. The truffle oil on the pizza also made for a strong flavor. Fountain drinks are by Boylan Bottling, and the creme soda was good. The house made carrot lemonade was too sour though. Overall a great lunch experience. read more

As a salad enthusiast, I always tend to stick to my over-priced Sweetgreen or Cava but when I was up north I came across Modern Market. Although I was trying to justify a $14-$16 salad, I decided to try it out. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I ended up getting the build your own salad option. I did romaine lettuce for my base, sesame-glazed tofu for my protein. For my toppings I got thin green apple slices, pomegranate, one hard boiled egg, roasted chili sweet potato. I tried out a couple of their dressing with the salad but my favorites were definitely the peanut mango dressing and the scallion ranch dressing. The curry sweet potato soup was also so delicious. All of their lemonades were really yummy but my personal favorite was the mint cucumber lemonade. Modern Market is a great place to go for quick, healthy food that fits the budget and leaves you feeling great afterwards. I've tried so many things on the menu and I haven't had anything I didn't like. The Smokey chicken bowl, blackened chicken salad, and steak bowl are go-tos. Their pizzas have a nice thin crust and are a size enjoyable between 2 people or one hungry person (me!). They have lots of great seasonal options as well, and don't forget to try the carrot lemonade and a Nutella rice krispie treat! This is my favorite restaurant chain and this is my favorite location out of the chain (because it's not insanely busy, mostly). One of the few places you can eat out and feel energized and healthy and *better* after the meal. Everything is good - you cant go wrong (that said: smoky chicken bowl!!), no matter what you choose. My new favorite lunch spot!!!! I remember when this place used to be RadioShack Wayback in the day and they have done a terrific job transforming the space into an inviting and welcome addition to the area. I would describe it as higher quality, locally sourced fast casual similar to Panera bread but far superior. They are very accommodating for a variety of dietary restrictions and food allergies, which makes this an absolute new favorite for me. I love the tofu, roasted veggies, arugula salad and my clients have said the pizza is terrific with a nice blistered and crunchy crust. Sandwiches have also gotten rave reviews. read more

I dunno, if you like the Arboretum Modern Market, you'll probably like this one too. I kept thinking it was smaller, darker, and maybe even a tad claustrophobic, and I started getting antsy after fifteen minutes in a booth. Purely subjective. It's the same setup, and they deserve the same props for having that nutritional novella on every receipt. If you're into $2 wine deals, you're still good here. But Modern Market still comes across to me as kind of a hipster hospital cafeteria, and there's nothing wrong with that - a time & place for everything. I've only done the lunch/dinner menu at this Westlake location, the chicken's decent, and they sure like oil with the asparagus here. And you won't have to worry too much about taking endless presentation pics for your social media accounts. I am curious if the breakfast is as good as the Arboretum Market, but since they don't open until 8:30am, it's easier for me to hit a dozen other restaurants by that time. I was looking for a nice, quick, and healthy spot for lunch with my boyfriend during his lunch break. Picked him up and we saw Modern Market was nearby! It is in a very convenient area, close to Mopac. Huge parking lot too. I instantly loved the busy yet relaxed atmosphere. There was a good amount of people at 12pm but not too much where we couldn't find seats at our own table. I got half a flat iron salad and the green Chile chicken soup. Either they accidentally charged me for a full salad or a half size is huge!! I had to take most of it home with me. The soup was nicely seasoned, although I had to add my own hot sauce (I like spicy foods). Overall, everything tasted nice and light. My boyfriend tried the salmon curry grain bowl and wasn't disappointed either. Service was great. We got our food quickly and the staff would come around to check on our tables as well, even though it was a counter order service. We had a good experience. It's grand opening day! And I gotta tell you, I'm probably going to keep coming back here for lunch. It was my first time going and the guy taking my order recommended the Blueberry Pesto sandwich. After I ordered it, another employee there also raved about it leaving me with high hopes. I definitely wasn't let down - the sandwich was delicious. As for everything else, the decor was very nice with little succulent plants placed on every table. It's definitely a cute lunch spot. I recently ordered from here, and not only was my food cold but it was also incorrect. I contacted guest services over the phone where they helped me out by arranging for my food to be remade. But when I arrived at the restaurant, I was met with rude service from the older caucasian woman behind the counter, who was entirely unfriendly and gruff by shoving my meals at me when I asked for them- no apology for their mistake or the inconvenience of having to return for the remade food. Very disappointing for a quality restaurant to hire unprofessional staff to interact with customers, not to mention how disconcerting it is to have the people making your food be rude when you ask for a remake for fear of a lack of quality in the remade food. If someone is so unwilling to graciously handle customers, maybe look into hiring people who are happy to work there.
