I have been a loyal customer at Modern Nails since they first opened. I brought my daughters there as teenagers, and now they are adults who still go, along with my granddaughter. Over the years, I've had good experiences with Cindy, Rose (I wish I knew where she is now), Jenny, and Tracy. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. After getting my brows done, Cindy asked if I wanted a mani/pedi. I couldn't that day but told her I was available the following morning. She told me to come between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. so Jenny could do my manicure before my flight. I arrived at 9:10 a.m. Despite being on time, my manicure was never honored. Cindy attempted to assign a nail tech I do not use, so I had to advocate for myself and request Tracy for my pedicure. While Tracy was doing my toes, Cindy asked how I wanted my nails, leading me to believe my manicure would begin as usual, since they typically do both services at the same time. Instead, other clients were taken ahead of me, and it became clear my appointment was not a priority. Tracy did an excellent job on my pedicure, but the situation was handled poorly. If there was no time to provide the manicure, the appointment should not have been made. When I addressed it, Cindy said she was busy and suggested I use another tech, but I have the right to choose who provides my service. After many years of loyalty, it became clear that some clients are valued more than others. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

From far away my nails look okay, but they are shaped horribly, you can see the layers of nail polish and it just looks chunky underneath the nails. I DO NOT recommend it - lady was nice and was too excited once finished so I didn't have the heart to tell her that it wasn't her best. Cindy did an amazing job on my nails and the price for a full set is unbeatable (starts at $38!!) mine came out to $53 because I added chrome but nonetheless, I was shocked that I hadn't found this place sooner. She was so sweet and took her time on my nails and when I didn't like something she was quick to accommodate my preferences. The best thing is my nails are glow in the dark!! I went with a group of friends on a Thursday around 4:00 and the techs got us in and out. To get a full set manicure was priced as expected but I wouldn't get my toes done here. (Only because I know it's cheaper closer to home.) There was a wide selection of color choices and I insist that you take the time to browse through them all. I wanted a color close to my prom dress and I found the color I came in for after I had finished my nails and was waiting on friends. Second time coming here. First time the $25 pedicure was underwhelming but whatever. However my nails were painted horribly. You could see the brush strokes in the paint. It was a mess. I had to come back later that day to get them fixed. That took an hour just to repaint them. Fast forward till today. Pedicure still underwhelming. My toes are painted horribly. Like cmon. For $25 the least I can get is my nails painted right. I have acrylic on one of my toes because it broke. It grew out. She just painted over it. It's a mess. Now to the real foolishness. I walk in. Ask for a pedicure and refill. They lead me to the chair. Halfway through the pedicure she says oh we can't do your refill. Huh? She's like we're too busy. Ma'am. Tell me that at the door. So I can decide if I want to stay. Not while I'm in the middle of my pedicure. Not to mention there were just techs walking around doing nothing. So unprofessional & a waste of time. With the holidays around the corner, I made a last minute appointment and drove the 45 minutes to Modern Nails; I was greeted by friendly, smiling faces and I left thrilled with my nails, as ALWAYS! I am definitely going to start coming back, the quality of work is worth it! I don't ever have to worry about my nails breaking/chipping or looking too thick or uneven, and she always tells me what will and won't work and helps me figure out great color combinations when I can't decide! Today I drove 35 minutes to Modern Nails and Cindy did an amazing job with my nails... I came in with pretty much pistachio shells as Nails from a previous nail job and I didn't like them much because they were thick but Cindy took them off for me and she re do my nails to an ombré nude coffin shape and I love them. Called around 11:20am to make an appointment for face waxing and they were able to schedule me for 12:45pm. Made it to the salon at 12:35 pm and waited in my car to avoid over crowding. When I went in at 12:42 pm and I was greeted nicely by the owner. (I know she's the owner because this isn't my first time here, I've been here four times previously) She jokingly laughs and informs me that they cannot do my face waxing only eyebrows: "Yeah, I forgot about that! I forgot we cannot do face waxes right now"... I replied with, " ok, Thanks." and left to be as nice as possible. I drove over an hour for nothing!! No apology nor compensation for her forgetfulness. I could have stopped at any other place for eyebrows but Modern Nails uses sensitive wax and does a decent job so I drove from North Houston to Richmond for the service. There are a lot of nail salons in this area, but this is by far the BEST. Pricing is comparable to other salons, but quality/service is far above. Even their basic pedicure includes a hot stone massage and sugar scrub. This was the best pedicure I've ever had. I had an overall good experience. There were a few things that fell short for me. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The lady who did my deluxe pedicure seemed like she was still learning. She trimmed my toenails twice and kept asking if that was a good length and I had to ask her to trim more. While nail length is a personal preference, I've personally never experienced a technician having to trim three times for the appropriate length. The stone and overall massage was not rushed but left a lot to be desired. My polish is painted too far up on the nail bed. It wasn't a bad experience and I may try them again at some point. It wasn't the best experience either but the prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly and willing. read more

The technician doing my manicure had a runny nose and kept whipping her runny nose on her hand and now washing them. The things we do for pretty nails. I figured I'll just wash my hands very well afterwards, but was repulsed that she was not washing her hands after whiping her runny nose with her hands and she is using her hands to work on my hands. I try not to interrupt technicians when working but I noticed that my nails looked really lumpy and the polish has many bubbles in it. I stopped her and asked if maybe the polish was too old or something like that because my nails looked bad. She said don't worry they are going to look great when she is done. When she was done the polish was all over my skin, lumpy, bubbly, my nails looked bad. I showed her the bubbles and lumpiness and she said where? She totally ignored that I was not happy with the outcome and kept saying it was my fault for picking that color. The color was a light blush pink. I always choose light pink and never have had a problem. The manager came by and asked the technician to correct my nails. The technician grabbed a used coarse emery board and started taking the polish off with the board. I told her that she was cutting me, she continued cutting my skin in an attempt to file off nail polish. By this time I was ticked off. Your snot on me was one thing but now cutting my skin on multiple fingers and making me bleed I was done. I asked the manager for my money back and she said no she's going to give me a gift card to make it all right. I told her absolutely not. I paid already and tipped to get my nails done. My nails aren't done and I'm leaving in worse condition than when I walked in. I'm bleeding all over the place now and you used old emery boards on me. She finally refunded my money and I went home and immediately took a shower and put neosporin on my cuticles. I do not recommend this place at all ESPECIALLY if you have a low immune system like diabetics or in chemotherapy. They need a lesson in sterilization and customer service. read more

So here's an update to my previous review. Obviously this was favorite nail shop until today. My son and I went in like we usually do and there were 5 employees and no customers other than myself. I tell them I need to have my nails done and one of them tells me where to sit. My son and I sit down and the one who appears to be the manager asks me if I can come back later. I look around and I ask her if she is serious. She said something about an appointment and I told her there is nobody else in here but you want me to come back later. I won't be back ever! I can't believe after all the money I've spent in that place that I was treated that way.
