First of all, 75$ for a gelx refil is honestly insane. I asked for a refil and after she was like no it was too grown out and up charged me. I had an appointment for 330 for mine and my sisters nails. Got here at 330 and had to wait 40 minutes for someone to see me; my sister honestly gave up and left bc it was going to take so long. Just had the quickest pedicure of my life after waiting more than 20 minutes past my appointment (which I know happens sometimes). I chose the most deluxe package and even with all the extra services and add-ons, my pedicure lasted less than 25 minutes. The guy paid very little attention to the shape of my nails, to my cuticles, or to applying even layers of polish. I know that some clients love this place. I have been going to Modern Nails for a few months for my manicures and I would not go anywhere else in Santa Barbara; if you are looking for somewhere to go, this is definitely the place. They always do a great job! My nails have never been healthier and longer. I can't believe I just payed $45 dollars for the gel manicure I got at this place. It looks like a toddler painted my nails. The technician painted my nails in literally 2 minutes just globing on a bunch of nail polish. I had to ask her to paint on my nails and not my skin while she was doing it because it was getting so ridiculous. She did not clean my nails, cut my cuticles,or put lotion on my hands. For $45 dollars they just threw on the sloppy nail polish in a few minutes The place was not busy at all. I'm not sure if this was this ladies first time painting nails or what. When I told the manager my nails were so Sloppy she rolled her eyes and said everyone had their own way of doing nails. She was very rude. I won't be returning here. I've patronized modern Nails several times. I liked them. But my experience last week was awful. 1. I spent more time soaking, waiting for the pedicurist to begin, than I did during the entire pedicure. 2. They didn't apply enough paint to my nails. I could hardly even see the color! 3. They wouldn't allow any time between coats for the paint to dry. I asked her to slow down a little and she said no. Then, it was over. I paid. I walked out. I went home and finished painting my nails myself. I'll never go back there again. And I DON'T recommend Modern Nails to anyone. It was a waste of my time and money! read more

seems like the quality in general of pedicures have declined in the last year or so yet the prices have gotten higher. Less effort and minimal service for more money. I used to think this place was great until my most recent visit an hour ago. For one I'm pretty sure the guy who did my mainicire doesn't even do manicures- it felt very generic and when you look at the photos you'll see why I say this)a Mani and Pedi combo(which was extremely rushed because they were sharing bottles of polish and not giving the proper time for polish to set etc. only took 32 minutes total) never in my life have I had two services done that fast) and afterwards I I feel like I was overly advised to be very cautious and not move (which I did for over 20 min after even finishing) and it still messed up and I had to come back within 30 minutes because I couldn't fathom I just got this done professionally at a salon. I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Modern Nails. I called a few days beforehand to make an appointment and only waited a few minutes once I arrived. I was there for a mani/pedi for a New Year's Eve party and one man did my hands while another man worked on my feet. They were both very friendly and knew exactly what they were doing. Once one hand was done, he showed it to me to make sure it was what I wanted and it was perfect. The man who did my feet saw that I had a cut on my toe and was very gentle around it. Unfortunately, after a pedicure, I ended up with a painful toe infection, and had to go to urgent care for antibiotics. It was caused by using tools that had not been cleaned.
