I ordered chipotle calamari for appetizer and hubby ordered clams. Both were good. For entree we ordered the pappardelle with lobster in saffron sauce and the zuppa Di Mare. Both were delicious. Great restaurant in westchester. Spent a day with family hiking and visiting parks and wanted a nice meal to end the day. modern on the rails hit the spot. Beautiful restaurant right next to train station. Parking is free which is great. Building was beautiful inside - upscale and elegant but not stuffy or pretentious. We had on jeans and tshirts (and even shorts) and did not feel out of place. Service was prompt and attentive. The highlight though was the food - it was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Highlights were polenta over artichokes, mussels in marinara sauce, cacio Pepe pasta special, lamb chops. Dinner finished on a high note as we ordered Italian donuts- zepoli - that desert was enough to feed table of 6 and had half left over. The space is also really nice and is a good option if you were having a larger group or wanted to do a celebratory meal. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is solid and the price is reasonable for what you are getting. They brought over bread to start and the bread was nice and warm. We started with the burrata app which weirdly came with 3 pieces of medium bread (same as the basket, but toasted or grilled). It felt like it should have been smaller crostini type bread and also more pieces given the app, but it didn't matter because we had the warm bread basket. The app itself was nice, but not overly special. For dinner we had the burger and the squid ink pasta with salmon. The burger was good, but the sweet potato fries needed any kind of seasoning, even salt. The pasta was the best dish of the night. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the sauce was delicious and the pasta was great. Overall, I would definitely come back here again. What a great experience! Really nice decor and ambiance in the room. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Our waiter made several recommendations, which were great. The manager came by halfway through the meal to check on us, I always appreciate that. I had the mozzarella sticks to start and my wife had the Caesar salad. I know mozzarella sticks are simple, but when they are done correctly you notice the difference. These were perfect. For our mains I had the Lobster ravioli and my wife had the roasted chicken. Both were great. The sauce with the chicken was especially tasty. For dessert I had the Italian donuts (zeppolis) and my wife had the chocolate chip cookie. Delicious!! The price was very reasonable. Our server was friendly, attentive and made excellent recommendations. The specialty cocktails (pear margarita & watermelon margarita) were fresh and bright. The menu has so many great options; the burrata crostini with fig jam, arugula and bacon was out if this world. The Rails pizza was delicious. The salmon and its sauce were perfectly made. On Saturday there was a one year birthday party with 80 people in attendance . It was brunch buffet style. The wait staff was very attentive filling water glasses and refilling drinks. Clearing away dishes almost immediately. First I served myself 1 English muffin eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, sausage link, French toast. I skipped the potatos. This place is like Goldilocks. I ordered the Lamb T-bone. First it came out overcooked. Then it came out RAW and not cooked at all. The third time, it came out just right. It took 40 minutes to bring me overcooked lamb, 10 minutes to bring me a raw lamb, and another 7minutes to properly cook it. They also failed to rest the meat. The service was good and so are the espresso martinis (no Baileys). The owner came out and apologized for the lamb and took our drinks off the bill which was very nice. I wanted to love this place. As soon as we walked in it was really pretty inside, so I thought we had just found a gem of a place. Unfortunately the service was horrible and the food wasn't great at all. We couldn't even eat our appetizer. Our server never asked how or app was or our dinner. The gentleman that cleared our dishes was the only one that asked us how everything was. Although when we said NOT good, he said "thank you, I'm so glad to hear that". We then repeated ourselves and got the same response. Celebrated my mom's birthday at Modern on the Rails. The calamari and garlic bread were fantastic! I enjoyed the truffle chicken. The desserts are pretty small, but good. My aunt and grandmother enjoyed the burger, but said the sweet potato fries were a bit bland. Service was great. I order the linguine & white clam sauce and I had more clams than pasta which was great with me. They have mussels on the app menu I don't care for them in red sauce and the chef was very accommodating and made mine with garlic and white wine sauce. Calamari super crispy. This was a spot chosen for us by my sister-in-law. Went here for a baptism after party just for of us. They had a entire restaurant booked up for a brunch party so we had to sit outside. It's full/winter so it's a little cold, but they had the outside heaters and closed off area. Service overall was provided very well, the food was pretty good overall, and the ambience aside from the things I spoke about was decent. Inside and outside were very clean as well as the bathrooms. Parking was street parking outside of a train station, but not ridiculous. You could definitely find a spot but you have to pay. read more

Decided to make a holiday lunch reservation at this restaurant today with a friend. I love seafood, so I asked our waiter about the linguine with clams. I asked if the clams were fresh, as the menu said they were freshly shucked. He told me that the clams were from a can with only one open fresh clam on the plate. I was shocked, so of course I did not order that dish. How can a restaurant with high prices serve clams from a can! I also asked about the baked clams if they came with a sauce and he said they did, so I ordered them and asked not to have sauce put on them. They came to the table baked in paprika! The baked clams were fire red with paprika consuming the clams. I have never in my life saw anything like it. Maybe they were trying to put a new take on them, but it did not work. I should have sent them back, but ate them anyway and they were awful. I had the shrimp scampi with risotto which was very good. My friend ordered fagioli soup and pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe which he enjoyed. I had eaten here before and was very nice and no problem, but got turned off about serving clams from a can. I will never return to this restaurant -- not because of the food, but because of the completely unprofessional and downright humiliating behavior of the management. My husband hosted a birthday dinner for me here with a small group of six -- an occasion that should have been joyful and celebratory. Instead, it was completely overshadowed by a deeply embarrassing and totally uncalled-for confrontation from the restaurant manager. After we had finished our meal (which was decent but not extraordinary), the manager took it upon herself to publicly "correct" my husband for only tipping 10% -- which was both inaccurate and totally inappropriate. In fact, he had already tipped 20%, and she either didn't bother to check properly or simply jumped to conclusions. Either way, to single someone out in front of guests like that is appalling. And here's the kicker: no apology. Not for the mistake. Not for the embarrassment. Not for souring a night that had been planned with care and love. Just a cold, entitled attitude that made it clear we were not welcome -- or respected -- as customers. If this restaurant values public shaming over polite customer service, then it's no wonder the place wasn't even half full on a Saturday night. There are plenty of restaurants in this city with better food, better energy, and -- most importantly -- better manners. Save your money and your dignity. Go somewhere that understands hospitality doesn't end when the check is signed. read more

The space is amazing and we do enjoy eating at this restaurant. We were a party of four and were seated at the corner of the bar which was perfect for us. We ordered 2 appetizers (baked clams and the chicken meatball special) and both were tasty. For dinner we ordered the soft shell crab special, eggplant parm, martini chicken and chicken with truffle cream sauce. We got salads as our side dish and they were typical side salads made with what I think was iceberg or romaine lettuce, a few olives, tomatoes, slices of onion and cucumbers. Dressing was tasty. I probably should have ordered pasta on the side instead of the salad. I had the eggplant parm so I can only comment on that dish. The eggplant was thinly sliced (which I love) however I had a large tomato sauce bomb on my plate. Too much sauce for my liking. Sauce is tasty, just too much. Of course this is my opinion and people may like that kind of preparation. Overall a good experience and we will go back. read more

An excellent dinner with friends. The space was the station for the train back in the day. The renovation is great-high ceilings, elegant and a lot of attention to detail. Our reservation was for an early dinner, but our friends were 30 minutes late due to traffic-no issues. The wine list had a lot of bottles were familiar with. Service was excellent from start to finish. My entree was Truffle Chicken which was an excellent dish and was large. A beautifully converted rail station house, this restaurant is beautiful to look at and maintained and decorated very nicely. Our server is not a stranger to us, she's a regular employee there which says a lot about the owners and how they run things right? Their staff stays and they are good at their jobs. She's waited on us quite a few times going back a few years. Brunch goers beware. My cousins and I had brunch at modern on the rails on Sunday. To make a long story short we didn't realize when we got our bill that they added 20% tip to our bill. Yes you heard it 20% gratuity on the bill not knowing this we gave them an 18% tip. As soon as we got into the car, we realize something was wrong with the check so I called right away and was told that the manager would call me back. Of course she did not. We called the next day and again didn't hear back. When I called back on Sunday, the woman who picked up the phone said "oh your server should've told you that the tip was included". Seriously!!! We gave him over $100 tip for pouring mimosas! I'm so upset about this whole situation. Obviously, I will not be going there for brunch, ever!!! read more

My best friend and I rarely get to see each other and we were so happy to get together for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We made a 5pm reservation and we're seated righ away by a lovely young lady that told us to relax and enjoy our dinner. We each ordered a cocktail then we ordered appetizers, the waiter wasn't particularly friendly or quick but we didn't care. After we finished our appetizers we ordered our entree she a steak me the fish special to make a long story short we we're still eating and the waiter came over and began to clean our half eaten dinners and told us that he needed the table in five minutes. We were in shock I asked to speak with the owner he wasn't there so they his son very ineffective at that point he could have invited us to the bar for dessert and a complimentary drink nothing.
