This use to be a good dental office...until it wasn't. The quality of dentistry went waaaaay down! Every time I went in there it was a new dentist/dental assistant. The last time I went in the "new" dental assistant dropped the saliva sucker into my mouth and didn't realize it because she was busy watching the TV in the examination room. I had to tap her on her arm! After that, I found a different dentist. That was several years ago now and just recently received a "collection notice" that my account was now in their hands. Never received a call or a letter!! If I had I certainly would have immediately paid it in the office as I live within walking distance of this business. DON'T TRUST! I came to this place 3 times and I honestly think they are untrustworthy and care more about making money instead of giving real care. First red flag was when they told me I had gingivitis and recommended the extra clean which is out of my plan. I go to the dentist twice a year and always get compliments on my at home care. The next time I came the dentist told me I had a cavity, even after the hygienist complimented my teeth and gum health. I let them do it because I thought there's no way anyone would make that up. I come back 6 months later, and the dentist says I now have 3 more cavities (without doing a XRay) and wanted me to schedule the fillings that day. I decided to get a second opinion because I thought I either have some major issues with my teeth or the dentist is lying to me. My second opinion checked my teeth before and after cleaning them, did an Xray and DID NOT find any cavities. Based on other reviews, it seems like others have had similar experiences to both my ridiculous gingivitis diagnosis and phantom cavities, so it's hard to believe it's a coincidence or an honest mistake. read more

I used to visit this dentist almost 3 years ago, and today I got a call from a law firm saying I owed them $80 for an appointment I had in April 2022. They're claiming my insurance changed the coverage. Are you kidding me??? It is now September 2024 and you are just now contacting me about this? I stopped going to this dentist because they couldn't keep their billing straight at the time, and kept calling me to say I owed money and I would have to dig through all my records to prove that I paid various bills. I've been coming here for 18 years and have seen the ownership/partnerships change several times. The current owner, Dr. Lee, reminds me of a car dealership pressuring you to buy the extended warranty. There were two incidents: first, Dr. Lee said I had two cavities; something didn't seem right. So, I scheduled to have the fillings done by another dentist there who said there were no cavities, just stains in the deep grooves. Then, the same owner/dentist set me up for an appointment I didn't even schedule. The final straw recently was when I went for a cleaning. She was 45 minutes late, and they tried selling me a membership. I definitely won't be going back there! read more

I don't write reviews often but this place is pretty suspicious. They will take advantage of people unfamiliar with standard dental procedures. They will charge you for things you don't necessarily need so they can make money since general cleanings/procedures covered by your insurance don't help them make money. I was quoted for a deep cleaning and three cavities, ended up getting half my mouth deep cleaned and one cavity filled on one side which came out to ~$500, for ONE side. I decided to get a second opinion bc i could not afford another ~300 for the other side. I called to see if my treatment plan could be altered to get just the necessities and after some back and forth I was told I could forgo one of the products they used. This confirmed that they were using products I didn't really need to upsell me. Decided to get a second opinion and was informed I didn't need a deep cleaning in the first place and that I did not have any cavities at all. Instead I was given a general cleaning that came out to $60 and was covered by insurance. Everyone here is very warm and my overall experience was good but at the end of the day they are just trying to make money off of you and the dental services they provide are not that great (deep cleaning was rough and spent 3 hours there waiting for both the cavity and cleaning) If you come here make sure to throughly review your treatment plan and if anything seems suspicious get a second opinion, it can't hurt and might even save you $500. read more

Find a real dentist, not a bunch of sales reps for dental quackery. Before we started the dental assistant asked me how long I had gum disease. I was like, I don't believe I do and she said, "Oh, are you a new patient?" Literally, they sell scam products to everyone walking through the door. Wasted my time and tried to sell me an expensive holistic mouth wash. The dentist who finally saw me was not even one listed on their stock photo site. Instead of directly answering my questions about what a couple of concern areas looked like on X-rays he went on a weird tangent about being responsible for my health and that my jaw alignment was something that would need serious treatment. Finally, he told me I had no cavities and then he literally could not point out the crack in one of my molar's enamel until after I showed him and got out of the chair and demanded to see the X-rays. Then he 'found' the issue. 2 times in the process I specifically asked to walk through my x-rays (as almost every other dentist I have ever been a patient of has gladly done) and they did not. Oh, and DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE with your data! They emailed sensitive information, including copies of my x-rays to me through unencrypted email, which is a HIPAA violation. This place should be shut down and these scam artists should be ashamed of themselves. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

They wait until you are strapped into your seat and then walk in to make you sign a piece of paper with a few items not covered under insurance. They always try to surprise you with a "special" $40 mouthwash among other things. Feels a bit shady how things are handled. read more

They are SUPER predatory. They are basically a sales rep for Invisalign. They WILL try to confuse you with various expensive treatment options and conflicting statements. Telling them you can't afford something doesn't make a difference, they just move on to another expensive treatment option. Don't believe them if they say it's "free" - it will be quickly followed by something else with a big dollar sign. Do yourself a favor and find a dentist that cares about your teeth, not their bottom line. read more

Very similar experience shared amongst all commenters on this thread. My recent visit at Elite Dental was thorough, although not timely (was in the office for three hours). They performed services that went beyond what my insurance covered for general cleaning and preventative care without explaining the difference, ultimately leading me to spend $200+ on a cleaning that could have been 100% covered by my insurance. To make things worse, they slapped a $40 bottle of mouthwash on my bill without asking me if I wanted it, so I initially assumed it was part of the cleaning services. Throughout my cleaning they were also trying to sell me on Invisalign and night guards! Greediness has so no end, but I at least have organic mouthwash. read more

Going into the medical field is such an admirable life choice - medical professionals dedicate their lives to making other's health and well-being their top priority. But then there are the doctors like those that work at Elite Dental. Shady practices and money-grabbing tendencies are commonplace here. They're up front with all the cost and did not try to up sell me on anything I did not actually need. I have had 3 appointments with them so far including a crown. This dentist has been trying to scam me for my entire time being there. This last time, the hygienist told me I have a mild case of gum disease (which I have never been told before). I have great teeth and dental hygiene. She kept telling me that it's not as bad as it looks and that I'd have to come back for my actual teeth cleaning. She then told me she was going to do some special treatment on my teeth - which of course, did not mention it would not be covered in my insurance. I quickly asked and she was really rude the entire rest of the visit, making my gums bleed more. I am disgusted with the staff there - they just want my money and I'm done going there. Scheduled an appointment on Elite Dental's website because it was close to my new home. Received a call from them the next day verifying my insurance info, which I gave. Received two reminder emails the week before my appointment which I responded to affirmatively. Then, the day before my appointment, I received a call from a rude front desk staff member telling me I hadn't given my insurance information and that I would need to supply it by the end of the day or my appointment would need to be rescheduled. I was in the middle of my work day, and didn't have my insurance card readily handy. It irritated me a bit and I told the staff member I had supplied that information earlier and perhaps they could find it in their system. This staff simply repeated that I would need to supply the info or have my appointment rescheduled. I said I would try to get the information... when I had some downtime at my job, I called back with the requested info and first was hung up on, and then placed on hold and hung up on. I guess they're not only disorganized, rude and busy on the phone lines, but don't like getting paid during a pandemic! Gross. Reading some of these other reviews, I'm glad that it worked out this way and I have been able to avoid further headaches via bad care. read more

Just had my first appointment with Dr. V. She was an excellent communicator during my exam, and the hygienist who saw to me afterwards did an efficient and effect job with the cleaning. I will have to say the doctors are really great, especially Dr. V. She has a a great personality and is very funny. In fact, if I still lived in the neighborhood, I would seriously consider being a patient to this day if it was not for their billing/front office. I originally visited the office in 2012, without any problems and recommended that my husband go there as well. We moved to another dentist when we moved across town, but much to our chagrin we began receiving bills from the office stating that we owed a balance. Each time we would call, we received a different explanation of the bill, ranging from we don't have insurance (even though we had proof our insurance company paid them) to it was an error on their part and we can ignore it. At this point, I have received numerous invoices all with different balances and seriously considering legal action, because I am concerned serious unethical behavior is happening in this office. read more

The dentists here are actually really sweet and funny and make a great effort to make the whole experience painless when you're sitting in the chair. Dr. Rogers was very kind at my checkup and Dr. V was very kind (let me wear my headphones to relax) when getting a tooth extraction. My horrible review is for the receptionist staff. They were rude to me right away when I didn't want to give them my personal information (SSN) thru email. And then rude again when I showed up for my appointment, giving me a lot of attitude. But truthfully the ladies who sit behind the front desk are just terrible at their jobs. My tooth extraction didn't go as planned, so the dentist had to send me to an oral surgeon to finish the job the next day. They gave me the phone number of the place I was supposed to call to give my information, made me pay for the unfinished extraction, then send me on my way with a prescription. Of course I called the new place as soon as I got home, gave them my name and number and they said "Great, we hope to see you tomorrow, we just need a call from Elite Dental." Only problem was, Elite Dental never called the second office to confirm the time of my appointment. So, when I went the next day, I was never in the system and would have to reschedule a full two weeks from then. When I called Elite Dental to ask why they never confirmed my appointment, they accused both me and the new place of "lying to cover our asses" and I'm not even joking those are the words they used. I laughed, hung up, and made an appointment to finish my tooth extraction somewhere else. Seriously, who accuses their own patient of lying? And then accuses another dentists office for lying as well? They were the ones who messed up. All they had to do was apologize for the mishap and try to rectify the situation but they had such a bad attitude. read more

Overall, my experience was middle of the road. It was the end of the day and it was quite clear that the staff was ready to go home. I understand this sentiment completely. Though it did make my experience feel hasty... I would have truly appreciated it if the doctor or staff had explained to me what procedures were being done and articulated to "why" to help make me more comfortable and explain the larger context of the work being done. Instead, I felt poked, pulled and prodded. This is the first time I've ever felt uncomfortable at the dentist. I've had great experiences with Elite Dental before and will continue using them as my dental provider. I just hope for a better experience next time. read more

After reading all of the negative reviews of Elite Dental, I had come to come defend my favorite dentist office. Granted, perhaps the office has improved their functionality since the bad reviews were posted. If so, I have to give it up for them for taking the time to read reviews, accept the criticism, and be proactive. I have been to this office several times in the past year. I am very picky about what dentist I see because I grew up with my mom employed at a dentist office. It felt like I was always being shuffled to the dentist for one thing or the other, and it was always a miserable experience. I wanted to go to someone young and friendly. I actually just chose the place because I did a dentist search to see who was in network for Metlife and wanted to find a female dentist who was relatively young (it seems like I've been going to old men my whole life). I found Dr. Bugman and Dr. Vihnanek at Elite Dental about a mile from my apartment. The receptionist is always friendly and easy to access. They are great about calling my insurance company and clearing up any discrepancies. They also call me when they have cancellations and think I might want to take the spot. How awesome is that? I have NEVER found the office difficult to access by phone. I actually see Dr. Vihnanek, and she is absolutely great. She is a great mix of stern (tells me I need to floss more, and I do) and friendly. She is also really honest and up-front about cost. I love that! I have always felt like I was a little bit in the dark about what procedures needed to be done and how much they were going to cost. Dr. Vihnanek is proactive about finding out how much I will need to spend (the imperative word here is "need") and gives me the quote. She's great. She and her staff of of hygienists are always checking to make sure that I'm comfortable and always let me know what the next step will be. They keep me constantly informed of what is happening. They are all young, energetic, and friendly. Much different from the awkward, ice-cold dental experiences of my youth. Plus, I should also mention that today I got a filling done just for cosmetic reasons (to make my smile look prettier) and when I called my mother back in rural Kansas- she said that the price I got at Elite Dental was a STEAL. She said she couldn't believe the price I got, and that I would have paid double at her office. Pretty amazing. I can't say enough good things about Elite Dental. This place is, hands down, the worst dentist or doctor office I have ever been to, and I've moved around quite a bit in my life. First off, actually getting them to answer the phone here is akin to getting Moses to part the Red Sea again - it just ain't gonna happen. If you do get through, be prepared to wait on hold until you fall asleep or hang up on them, whichever comes first. They also have this seemingly really cool feature on their website where you can email them and they'll call you to set up an appointment. I tried that, and 3 short weeks later they called me back! Talk about customer service! My main complaint is really with the front office, as you can see. They are extremely rude and unfriendly, as if you're annoying them by even coming in. I had to reschedule an appointment 2 times because of stuff going on at work, and was told to "not call back until you're really serious about coming in to see the dentist. You've rescheduled too many times with us." And I ALWAYS called several days to a week out, so I always gave them plenty of notice. There's just no need for that attitude! Oh, and if you do come here and try to have your records transferred, be prepared to pay a $25 fee. They won't waive it under any circumstances! As for Dr Bugman and Dr Vihnanek, I had both. Dr Bugman I liked, she was very friendly and thorough. But she's just not enough to get me to keep on coming back here. Dr Vihnanek I was not so crazy about. Not quite as personable and didn't fully explain to me what was going on with a cavity I had. It was like I was pulling teeth (pun intended) with her to get a full explanation. Really, just avoid this place altogether. There are TONS of other dental offices in the city and no compelling reason to go here. read more

I really like Dr. Vihnanek, but the receptionist in charge of billing/scheduling is downright mean. Sorry my insurance isn't the greatest, but you don't have to be so rude with scheduling me! Plus, they charge you in advance, guesstimating what your insurance will cover. Mine actually covered more than they thought it would and I'm waiting on a refund... However, I must say - Dr. Vihnanek did fit me in when I had a dental emergency. She and the hygeinests are great. It's really just the billing/scheduling person that is mean. read more

One word for this place, "AMAZING!" They go above and beyond to attend to the patient needs. I had a few dentist offices in the past that I attended, but none compares to the friendliness and professionalism that Dr. V and her staff provides. Twice they canceled an appointment on the same day (appointments that were scheduled many months before), I got surprising bills long time after the procedures, and a few times their computers did not work when I called in to request information. I can't say enough how disappointed I am with the service we got there. My daughter went in for a cap and they sliced her tongue. She's was 18 at the time so I let her go on her own. Trusting they would take extra care with her and call me with any concerns. I've delayed to do this review because I knew I would be so angry about it I might not contain myself. I've have a big phobia of dentist and they have made things worst. Needless to say we never went back. She and I had caps done there and had to have them redone elsewhere. I'm sorry we went there for convenience being close by. We now take our business elsewhere and have been happy with the care now given. This place is right around the corner, and the staff is super-friendly. Rhonda is my hygenist and she's fabulous. Dr. Bugman is really not out to make a buck--gives you what you need and moves on. She's happy to take time to explain what's going on and why. Since I am forever freelancing and no one wants to pay for me to go to the dentist, I signed up for a CareMark discount card, which this office takes. Saved me a bundle! read more

I recently changed dentists and went in for a check-up with Dr. Bugman. She did such a thorough exam and the hygienist cleaned my teeth really well. Probably the best clean I've ever had! The reason Elite Dental gets 5 stars from me though is due to the recent filling I decided to touch up. 10 years ago I chipped my front tooth and have had a filling over it. Over time, the tooth has worn a little bit and I have never been able to whiten my teeth because fillings can't be whitened. With my wedding coming up, I knew I wanted to have my teeth whitened, so I talked to Dr. Bugman about possibly re-doing my filling. I was nervous to go ahead with it, especially because some of the reviews here for Elite Dental have not been the greatest, but she had done such a great job with my cleaning, I really felt like she would do her best on my tooth. So I decided to schedule the appointment. The whitening that they gave me was pricy, but it definitely whitened my teeth! I highly recommend it. They create molds for your teeth that match perfectly and you do it right at home for about 2 weeks. Once my teeth were whitened, Dr. Bugman knew how white to make my new filling. My wedding was approaching fast, and Yedi, the receptionist, really worked hard to get me in well before my wedding. When Dr. Bugman began my filling she was extremely precise and thorough. After completing the filling, she decided it was not a "perfect" match, so she removed it and redid it! She put a lighter shade over my tooth and then did her artistic work to make it look like all my other teeth. I cannot tell you how much I couldn't stop smiling after she showed me the tooth. It felt just like my old tooth. It even has the same grooves as my other teeth. I highly recommend Elite Dental and plan to keep going back for check-ups. They are very kind and helpful and really take their time on your teeth. I remember being a little nervous while Dr. Bugman was working on my tooth because she was singing along to some pop song playing in the background...But that's how she works! Let me start by saying that I'm not always the best patient. I have a demanding schedule and have been late 2/2 times. Well, for my first visit I was actually on time, but I was supposed to be early to fill out paperwork. I called, a little frantic, and the receptionist spent 15 minutes on the phone with me filling out as much of the paperwork as she could, I was very impressed with the kindness. The office is a little outdated, but the staff's skillset more than makes up for it. Just got my teeth cleaned this afternoon. The hygienist found 2 fillings beginning to fail, and Dr. Bugman verified that we need to replace them. I guess she reads yelp, too, because she talked to me about my clicking jaw again. She said she didn't recommend surgical options for my TMJ (so she did know about them) and that she knew of a specialist that might be able to help, if I experience a lot of pain and discomfort. Well, props for reading yelp, Dr. Bugman, and more props for talking to me about this as you must have remembered the other review and have known that I'm still concerned about the issue. I'm shocked at the negitive reviews on here. I've been to a few different dentists in Chicago. I won't go anywhere but Elite Dental! Heck, I even like this dentists' office better than the one I went to growing up (but don't tell my old dentist that, he's a family friend). Dr. Bugman takes the time, as does anyone else on the staff there, to go over in detail any answers to questions you may have. The staff there is friendsly and is always polite to me. Elite Dental is a great place to go for a check up or more. I've gone for several checkups and one cavity filling and they are always very nice, efficient, and professional. They also located within walking distance from the Sheridan Red line stop - a plus for me! The services typically begin within a few minutes of walking in for the appointment and they make checkout a breeze with handling insurance. The hygienists and dentist are always happy to answer questions and explain things such as why you need to floss, brush a certain way, and general questions. They handle cavities well and only use the tooth colored filling, making sure to retain the look of your pearly whites and smile! I once had difficulty setting up an appointment because I didn't receive followup calls, and they don't offer early morning or evening hours so you have to go between typical hours of 9-5, but other than that, I can't complain! As most dentists do/should they are sure to give you a toothbrush, floss, and even toothpaste upon your exit! read more
