I went to the modern snack bar this afternoon with my boyfriend. We we're temperature checked on the way in and the restaurant was small but had dividers between all tables except, our table was within 3 feet of an empty table with no divider. About 15 minutes into us being there, another group is sat at the table 3 feet away from us. It was absolutely not socially distanced and we felt extremely uncomfortable that a restaurant would put us in that situation. We asked for our meals to go and left. This is the only time over the entire pandemic that I have felt uncomfortable being somewhere and did not see social distancing guidelines being followed. read more

Hello, I was out to harvest apples on the Long Island ny this weekend and I stopped at this establishment. Now I will say that this place was very popular with the townsfolk! The staff was super friendly and if you now me I like that about staff members (it's very professional) and makes you feel good for choosing there establishment. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich and fries! And I was very happy with my order the fries were super crispy and the grilled cheese sandwich was super good. I give this place four (4) stars for good food and service. Friendly staff and simple easy to use menus, But! My only advice is maybe more options for food but good job other wise. read more

What is worse is that I got sick from the food. I was burping shrimp salad with a sour stomach for the rest of the day and it only got worse from there. A friend got the soft shell crab, he wasn't impressed at all. My girlfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and they spent more time writing "Pulled Pork" in BBQ sauce across the edge of the plate than preparing the meal and the meat tasted marginally better than Burger King's version of the sandwich. read more

After, visiting the vineyards my family and I were excited to visit a family favorite (hate to admit it, but the food was good)...my family is loud, and I completely admit it...we were talking, enjoying ourselves when a relative said something LOUD...we quickly told her to lower her voice, when another customer told us we were extremely rude (keep in mind this isn't the ritz Carlton, it's a glorified diner)...the other customer then went on to accuse my aunt of being a drug addict and threatening to hurt her (at this time her husband walked up and got the owner)...we were then quickly kicked out of the restaurant without provided any kind of "warning" or even asking what happened, because they were "good customers". As we were walking out, the owner then demanded we pay our remaining bill...which of course we did. As we continued to rationalize our story, we were ignored and told sorry they are "good customers". False Advertising This place is not a snack bar-it is a fantastic, quaint restaurant. The food is delicious-regardless of your choice. I had the sauerbratten and my wife had the fish platter. Both were amazing and bountiful. They are new to the restaurant scene-only in business for 69 years. My wife has been going to the MSB for 40 years plus. Service is by far- friendly and prompt. The homemade pies are the absolute best. Special mention to John (owner) and Rosetta (server) for always making us feel like friends not customers. read more

Service was okay, didn't notice that the servers were extra friendly to us, although several other diners received extra attention. However, I do not understand the raves about the food. What an old-timey nightmare this place is! I ordered a glass of wine that tasted like I was sucking on a dirty penny; it cost 12 dollars; it was served in a joke of a wine glass. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the bill. I don't mind spending money on food or drinks as long as it's good and presented in a decent vessel. I ordered a turkey burger, which was obviously a frozen patty thrown on the grill until it was a hockey-puck consistency. The vegetables were swimming in butter and salt. The only high point of my meal was the chili; it was very good. So good in fact that the rest of the extremely unpleasant meal seemed even worse due to the juxtaposition. They still have the same waitresses from when I was 5 years old; so it's always a trip back in time for me. But - the food has always remained solid. Our typical orders include: garden salad, prime rib, roasted turkey, fried shrimp, and of course their soft shell crabs. For sides, you must get their mashed turnips. The restaurant is very unsuspecting as you drive up. When you walk along the path to enter, you will smell the glorious aroma of beer battered onion rings, which you should order once you sit down. The clientele is vast and all together local, which is expected once you taste their food. We ordered: The lobster bisque (quality found that rivals in the best restaurants in New England) Beer battered onion rings (because you have to) Tuna Melt (just the right amount of cheese and tuna on rye bread) The Lobster Roll was incredible. It was not on the menu, so don't be afraid to ask for it. I had it on a kaiser roll. There was an impressive amount of lobster and the taste was out of this world. The service was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and courteous. We intend to make a follow up visit out next time in town! read more

I guess that it about 100 miles from Brooklyn/Manhattan means it is off the normal path for the usual Gotham area Yelper. I'm a BIG fan of this place. Their Lobster Roll is outstanding as is the Clam Chowder. Other favorites include Roast Pork and Duck, Soft Shell Crabs, Flounder and Sauerbraten. Sides are good as well. Try the mashed turnips. Save room for dessert, all are worth loosening the belt for. If I have to single out a gripe, it would be that I feel the place is a little pricey. read more

Since we are here on vacation we had to eat at the snack bar! I was excited to see it was fairly close to were we were staying! We sat at the counter to get the full affect. Staff is great and very friendly and attentive. We had crab cakes and scallops both can go bad but we were impressed. We topped it off with some Blue Point Beer and took some pie to go. Our server was awesome and gave us whipped cream on the side ( the real stuff). We had cherry crumb and coconut custund...so good!!
