I have lived in Sonora for the past 30 years and I have always used Mono Way Vet which was privately owned. My Husky was examined and diagnosed as she had torn her ACL back leg. The problem was the traveling vet would not be up in Sonora for several months and a very nice Receptionist recommended Oakdale Veterinary group stating that her friend works there and they do that surgery every single day. This was a 45 minute drive for us but didn't mind at all. I gave them a call. They were so so nice and immediately booked an appointment to examine my dog and it was determined by the vet that she did tear her ACL, surgery was scheduled and I just could not have been happier with the care that I received there. This was when they were in their old building and this was when Covid started so the the doctors and staff would come out to the parking lot and go over everything with you there. He was very, very nice understanding and professional. So my dogs first night in the hospital after surgery one of the vet techs took a picture of her and sent it to me. That was the first time I had ever had a Vet be so personalized with Mya. At her recheck I informed the Dr. that Mya was now limping on the other side leg. I learned that was a very common injury considering she leaned on the other side while her other leg was healing. I was so happy with the care they all gave Mya. Maybe 4-5 months later I saw my dog laying in the front yard early in the morning with foam coming out of her mouth and one front leg pointing up in the air. I immediately called my regular vet here in Sonora, and by this time the veterinary hospital had been sold to a Corporation. When I panic stricken told her I don't know what's happening to my dog and explained what I was witnessing and was afraid she was dying. The receptionist calmly said she had an opening on the following Tuesday. I was in shock and immediately called Oakdale vets since they had dealt with Mya twice before and I was told to immediately bring her right in. And that was the beginning of having the most excellent care for years to come. What was happening to Mya was she was having a seizure the first one she had ever had and I had no idea what was going on, but by the time we got to the vets, she was fine. She was treated with such excellent care for many years, dealing with epilepsy, her seizures her medication, and then Cushing's disease. They truly truly cared about my dog and by this time they were in their brand new facility, which was beautiful. Mya and I had made so many trips down to Oakdale vets the staff all new Mya and this past May when Mya's medicine could no longer help her I had to make the absolute worst decision ever and had to let her go. The front desk staff were so caring. The day I had to let her go the vet tech met us at the front door and took us back to one of the back rooms that had a little candle a box of Kleenex and a jar of Hershey's kisses and a blanket on the vet exam table. My son and I sat on each side next to Mya on the floor until the veterinarian came in and she was so calm and so peaceful and she absolutely gave us as much time as we needed to be with Mya. When she took her last breath. We kissed her and we were able to exit the building through a side door so we didn't have to go through the waiting room. Two days later the office called to tell me Mya's ashes were ready to be picked up. I asked them if it would be OK if I waited for a while, cause I was not able to go in there that soon and they were very very accommodating. My neighbor ended up going down and picking up Mya's remains. I have never in my life heard of all the wonderful things that Turlock family cremations did for my Mya. I'm not gonna say what it was, but if you have to go through that, I highly recommend it because what they sent me back were treasures that means so much. I still have two dogs and a cat so if I ever need of that again, they are my vet and will always be for as long as I live here. I highly highly recommend them. I was so nervous when my 100 pound American Staffy, Harley, tore his ACL. He's a big boy with little legs (lol) and a lot of personality, so the idea of surgery had me stressed out. But from the moment we walked into the office, I knew he was in the best hands. First of all, the place is clean (and doesn't smell like a typical vet office, which is a big win already). The entire team, from the receptionists to the vet techs, were kind, patient, and genuinely caring. I called a lot during the surgery (sorry, team ), and not once did anyone make me feel like I was a bother. They were always sweet and thoughtful, and took time to answer all my nervous questions. The doctor was amazing. He explained everything clearly, which helped me go from anxious to confident about the surgery. Harley's procedure went perfectly, and now we're on day five of recovery, his sutures look fantastic, the swelling has gone way down, and the bruising is almost gone too! Also worth mentioning, I had quotes from another vet that were almost double the cost. This team was honest, transparent, and incredibly fair. If you're looking for a vet who treats your fur baby like family (and also doesn't judge when your "baby" weighs 100 pounds and still tries to sit on your lap), this is the place. Because of the sharp eye for detail of the orthopedic assistants in patients' notes and my second call of concern to them about a mistaken prognosis from a prior visit to my baby's hurt knee, I will praise this vet group. We live in Murphys and switched to OVG last year when our doodle needed her teeth cleaned. They impressed us and we have made them our Lucy's vet for all her needs. July 3rd we took Lucy in for an emergency visit as we could tell something was wrong. We were in Shock when Dr Willis ran tests and informed us she had a burst spleen. Up until this week I would have given OVG SIX stars. I originally took my GSD puppy there to figure out what was wrong with one of her legs and she ended up having two surgeries, one to correct uneven bone lengths and one arthrodesis procedure which included putting in a metal plate from mid-forearm through her middle toe. The care she received from Dr. Trathan and team was OUTSTANDING. Unfortunately 18 months ago she developed a bone infection running the length of that metal plate and it turned out that several of the screws had broken as well. She had another surgery to remove all the metal, and started on multiple courses of antibiotics to eliminate the infection. Sadly as soon as she would come off the oral antibiotics the infection would come back, so Dr. Trathan suggested we try implanting antibiotic beads in the areas where there was no blood flow, in hopes of getting at the last pockets of infection. The first attempt worked for 6 months, and the second worked for four. After that second bead surgery Dr. Trathan informed me that he had sold the practice to a management group and would be moving to England. This weekend her paw began to look puffy and it was clear that the infection had returned very suddenly (Sunday morning her paw was normal, by night time it was filled with fluid and beginning to ooze). I called first thing Monday morning to ask what he recommended we do - a referral to UC Davis in case they had other ideas, oral antibiotics temporarily til we could figure out the next course of action, or straight to amputation. He was not at work on Monday but I was told they'd reach out to his wife and have her ask what he recommended and that they'd call me back in a couple hours. When I received that followup call it was clear that no information had been passed to the "member of the management team" who called me back and she said she would "reach out to his wife and have her ask what he recommended and that call back in a couple hours." which is what I'd already been told several hours previously. At this point I decided to take Prima to an emergency vet located more than an hour from my home so they could at least drain the fluid from her paw, send out a culture to see what bacteria were present, and wrap her paw properly to get us through until I could speak to Dr. Trathan (on Tuesday when he returned to the office). I was halfway to that emergency vet when I finally received a call from OVG to say that I could give her one of the antibiotics she'd previously had (not the one that had worked with the MRSA strain she had) and take her to Oakdale (a two-hour drive away) if I wanted her to be seen. That would have been possible if I'd heard back earlier, but this was mid-afternoon and driving down to Oakdale from my home was not feasible, especially since I was already on the way to the ER with her. Dr. Trathan called on Tuesday and after a discussion of the options we decided to get Prima in for forelimb amputation on Wednesday. I took her down Tuesday, she spent the night, then had the surgery, and I picked her up on Thursday. As with all her other procedures the communication from the OVG team was great, and we made the follow-up appointment for removal of stitches and assessment of the surgery in two weeks. This morning I called OVG to ask about additional pain management. I asked what they'd recommend for additional pain relief and said my local vet had suggested Tylenol (something I was not aware was ok for dogs). When I got a call back the woman I spoke to (who turned out to be the new PRACTICE MANAGER!!!) started by saying "you called to ask about using Tylenol" which was not the case. I called to ask about additional pain management, and had (as a follow on inquiry) asked about my local vet's recommendation of Tylenol. So clearly my message had not been passed along properly, just as my message on Monday had not been passed on to Dr. Trathan as I'd been told it would. I asked again what additional pain management would be appropriate and also what she had been given at OVG. Shea May (the manager) put me on hold to ask Dr. Trathan and then my call was disconnected. I called back and eventually was routed back to her. She said Tylenol was fine and that Prima had been given a 3-day nerve block. I asked about the surgisuit and her immediate answer was no, keep the cone on so Prima wouldn't lick. I explained that I was only considering it for night time when she's asleep because she's right next to me, but was concerned about possible rubbing on the incision as it heals. Ms. May was extremely condescending, dismissive and rude. I objected to that and an hour ago received an email from her stating that she'd "decided to terminate our professional relationship" due to a "history of inappropriate demeanor and repeated negative attitude." I have NEVER been inappropriate or rude with anyone at OVG until today when I raised my voice in frustration with this woman. read more

I had been taking my 15 year old cat here for regular checkups since she had issues with UTIs. I know she was getting up there in age so I wanted to make sure everything was ok with her, all her symptoms were blamed on possible UTI related issues and possible start of kidney issues, but as stated by Oakdale Vet Group nothing urgent or immediate. My cat's condition started to worsen and I would be more frequent in my visits. They let me know all her vitals were ok and there was nothing to be concerned about immediately, just running up my bill and putting me in debt. Eventually my cat was in serious pain. We took her over to Oakdale Vet group and they let me know there was fluid in her chest, and did a transfer to Standiford Vet. They let us know she had an extreme progression of cancer throughout her abdomen and they could tell without even running an MRI. We had to put her down immediately the day of to let her have some peace. My concern with Oakdale Vet group is they are just worried about collecting bills and not actually concerned over the safety of our animals. If they had the competency to suggest an MRI when her symptoms started and gradually worsened we would have caught the issue early my cat would still be with me. read more

This review is LONG overdue for Dr. Ned Trathan and the rest of his staff! If I could give 10 stars I would. My dog, Penelope, had her first TPLO surgery done by Dr. Trathan at their previous location 2.5 years ago. She healed beautifully with no complications and has used her leg well since then, no limping at all! Unfortunately, Penelope tore her CCL and meniscus on her other leg about a month ago. They were very flexible with scheduling her for surgery, and we were able to get her in quickly and within our time frame. She is currently 4 days PO and doing very well. She stayed overnight following the surgery, and I was sent a text that evening with not only an update on how she was doing but also a photo of her which made me feel so much more at ease. Not only is Dr. Trathan well experienced with TPLO surgeries, but his prices are SO much more affordable than any of the specialty hospitals here in the Bay Area. I hope your puppy never needs a TPLO surgery resulting from a torn CCL. However, if you should find yourself in the unfortunate situation that I found myself in earlier this year, I would very highly recommend that you consider OVG. Dr Ned Tartan is a magician, and was god-sent for our 6 year old puppy Zara. The facilities are so so clean and swanky, the staff so welcoming, and the surgeon so proficient. My furry pet was trotting 12-14 weeks after the surgery, and running in 16-18 weeks. Now, about 6 months later, it is as if she never had a CCL tear. Oakdale Veterinary Group is absolutely the very BEST vet I have ever been to, hands down. I was referred by a friend when I needed a vet to put my sick dog to sleep. When I say they went above and beyond? That is no exaggeration. The vet tech Trent was so caring... we were so Impressed with how professional yet compassionate he was. He explained everything that was going to happen from start to finish. He made sure we understood everything and answered all of our questions. After our sweet dog was prepped he brought him back and let us know we had as much time with him as we needed and he would call the vet in only when we were ready. Dr.Walsh came in and was very sympathetic, caring and took the time to go over everything with us again. She was calm and my dog was relaxed....she took her time and made it a very peaceful process. She was amazing. After we were done, they let us leave and wait in our car while they prepared a mold of his paw print and an ink print of his paws and nose...as sad as we were it gave us something to hold onto. We went everywhere to get our dog seen and Ceres Vet recommended Oakdale vet for an emergency vet. Unfortunately our girl was very ill. The vet was very honest and gave us all scenarios. They allowed us an hour and half in the room so my kids could get out of school and say goodbye to our family member. The entire staff was sweet and understanding.
