DON'T GET SCAMMED! Where do I start. The boxing coach, Michael Gaxiola has a record of 4-28 in boxing, and only has the job cause the man who runs this business cuts corners and doesnt like to spend money on real coaches. I trained here for a few years, and heres what I noticed. This is a jiu jitsu gym. Striking coaches are usually just random people that need extra cash. I've watched many hard working people come in and get conned by this gym promising to teach you the fundamentals of MMA, but thats not what this gym is. People can be nice, but thats usually standard. Coaches come in and out and they can rage from a man in AA, to a dude who's since been kicked out for being sexually inappropriate. Yes these are real accounts. One of the old coaches used to come in coked out of his mind and then would ask for rides home and if you agreed, sometime on the way he'd ask where the crys was at, Dude used to be a K1 champ. He worked at this gym like its nothing. the owner Chewy, knows who his weirdos are but doesnt tell people. Some people figure it out and leave, some stay And keep to themselves. As for a jiu jitsu aspect, the teachings are probably the best in the valley. But you will literally not learn a thing trying to do MMA there, go ask there 1 fighter...who's lost all his fights under them. They used to have more fighters but they all left after losing just like him. Cause the gym doesnt take the sport seriously, Chewy will book you a fight to feed your mma fanboy dream, he knows the fanboys make him money, so if you're a serious competitor,i'm sorry, you won't be pushed to run, diet, or really anything. it won't stop him from booking a fight with one of his friends fighters. I once heard from a former coach that Chewy builds feeder fighters for the real ones to build a career off of. He will book you a fight and the rest is on you. This is NOT an MMA gym. Please. It tore my soul to watch people hand their money unknowingly. from the Elderly, Parents to the at risk youth To this jiu jitsu gym posing as full MMA gym. Self defense is serious, so is your money and time. I'd urge you to pass on this place but only if you really cared about your time, money, this sport, and your health. It literally breaks my heart watching people train there thinking they're getting their moneys worth. I left cause i felt like i was scamming people. Disclaimer: This is just my first hand accounts of trying to do MMA here. I did my best to hold back opnions and only use things that can be observed as such. Tested and proven. The jiu jitsu program is versed, respected, and skilled. As I stated earlier, probably the best in the valley.. Modesto Power is a fantastic gym. The facility is so nice. It has something for everyone in your family. Your men (husband & boys) can train in brazillian jiu jitsu and MMA with some of the most advanced instructors available today. Chewy is a great instructor and competitor and regularly brings through teachers from Brazil to give workshops. He is hooked up with all of the major tournament tours and can direct you whether you are going pro or just a hobbyist. Ladies, get in on the Zumba. The studio is gorgeous and BIG, with a fantastic sound system that will amp you up to dance yourself fit. Have you tried Zumba yet? It has to be the best way to get a good workout while actually enjoying yourself lol I seriously feel like I goof off and laugh the whole time. It is a great way for ladies to get together and blow off steam, and of course there are all kinds of handsome bjj men wandering around to motivate you to come to workouts more often ;) Chewy has set up a playroom for small children also, so if you need a break from home, jump in on a Zumba class and Chewy's staff will keep an eye on your little one so you can have a little time to yourself. They've really put alot of thought into the design of this facility. The mats, bags and weight room are clean, modern, there are 2 large private bathrooms with very nice clean showers, and a back door that opens up to let air into the weight room so it doesn't smell like a man cave. lol The environment is really safe, friendly and welcoming - you couldn't ask for a better place to join. I've been to a number of classes here, both Zumba and jiu jitsu as well as attended some of the workshops, and I think this is one of the best business models for a fitness studio I have ever found. I moved back to the area last year and tried out every BJJ/MMA school I could find. I was about to reluctantly settle for a school that cost much more and offered much less than what I was used to but fortunately I ran across Modesto Power. The facility is by far the best around and the amount of classes offered is unheard of. Chewy Ybarra is a World Champion black belt jiu jitsu fighter and the best instructor I've ever trained under. His willingness to share knowledge and genuine interest in his students development was clear to me from day one. Through their MMA program I have trained with former WEC and K1 champions, as well as UFC fighters and received top notch instruction and guidance from all of their instructors, in all of their classes. The kids program is amazing...I've brought mine several times and they absolutely love it. To top it all off...this place is by far the cheapest! The membership includes unlimited training for all of their classes...from 6am-9pm. I can't recommend Modesto Power enough...if you're serious about training or getting in shape, this is the place to be. read more

So ive been training here for awhile now and i love this gym but if im being honest ive gotten ringworm twice and also I've gotten staph here multiple times! I always shower after training with jiu jitsu soap so this isnt a hygiene problem of me. I never see anyone cleaning the mats and also i always see kids and adults running around barefoot off the mat then they dont even clean their feet they just jump right back on the mats! Also noah has multiple staph bumps all over his arms and legs amd everytime i roll with him the next day i have the same bumps on my skin! I pop them and puss and blood oozes out amd they hurt! This issue meeds to be addressed ASAP before someone ends up getting a bad infection and ends up going to the hospital! I say this not to insult but to instruct and hopefully things will be changed going forward. read more

I've been going here for a month now and it has been everything i have been looking for, whether you want to train to be a fighter, power lifter, or just get into shape it offers it all. Not only are the staff friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful but the environment of the people are as well. I am starting from the bottom and every person I've worked out with is willing and patient to help me learn. It's made it feel welcoming and like a small community. The other thing i really enjoy is the options for the classes, they have many different types offered that fit your schedule for the day and a lot are offered more than once and you are welcome to attend as many as you can handle. I love this place! I began taking a zumba class taught by Christine. She has great energy and makes you want to dance your butt off (literally). After about a month I decided to try out some of the mua thai classes taught by Mike and Steve. I fell in love with it immediately. There is nothing better then wailing on some bags after a rough day. Once I was comfortable with that I was persuaded to try jiu jitsu taught by Chewy. Now I'm showing my friends how to do rear naked chokes! LOL I love how these guys have pushed/guided me to realize my own potential and strength. I was in Modesto for a couple of months for work and I decided to stop by the local MMA gym. I signed up for the BJJ class to get in condition and enhance my MMA techniques. BJJ instructor Chewy "Turtle Master" Ybarra was very cooperative and adapted to my skill set right away. It felt like he was my instructor from the beginning. Chewy did a great job of explaining a technique and making sure I understand it and executing it. I've been to a few MMA gyms and nothing compares to Modesto Power. Ok so I want to start this off by saying I have only been coming to Modesto power for about a month now but it has already became a home away from home. I'm excited and wanting to go everyday is witch after the first week I have been going twice a day. The best place in Modesto has to offer. I have two children currently in the Chewy's and Danny's Jiu-Jitsu and Steve's Muay Thai classes! The instructors are the best, patient, kind. Modesto Power offers the biggest bang for your buck: 6 days a week classes and 2 hours of active discipline and fitness for children. Chewy Ybarra and Modesto Power is one of the best schools in the world. Chewy cares about the progression of his students, and treats them like family. I have known Chewy since 2008 and let me tell you the community in Modesto, California are spoiled rotten to have somebody like him in town. Modesto power is my home away from home. I moved to Modesto from Texas about a year ago and everything was so new to me. I started coming to this gym mainly because of the wide variety of classes that they offer, little did I know that I would meet some amazing and friendly people as well. I have been working out at Modesto Power for the past 4 months for just an hour a day with Paul in his Functional Fitness Class. I love it! Time of class is great, in the early morning. Paul knows the ins and outs of fitness, strength, flexibility, and nutrition. He is also an easy guy to get along with. More importantly, I am an out of shape 34 year old guy and this place is restoring my health and fitness. Best gym ever! I have been to several gyms but Modesto Power is by far the best. When I moved to Modesto a month ago I was worried that I would not find a gym but then I walked into Modesto Power and was greeted by Chewy. I heard about this place from a friend and thought I would check it out, not expecting sign up, but since I came in my life has changed! I originally signed up just to lose wright about four months ago and since then I have signed up all three of my children in the jiu-jitsu classes. I've been bringing my two kids here for a month now and l love love love it. The instructors are very patients and disciplined with them. My son has already brought up his grades and his behavior is improving. I love Mr. white he teaches the kickboxing class at 5 everyday. He is really good at his job. I definitely recommend this gym and the workout plan they have for my six year old. He recently started and he has already began showing improvements in his speed throughout his soccer games.
