I am not a patient here however, I definitely will be the next time I need new glasses! I called Modo Optometry because I wanted some advice on if I would be able to swap my glasses into a new frame (the exact same one) I kindly asked them if it was possible to do at home, which YouTube sure said it was, but I was still hesitant so that's why I was asking them for their professional advice. Alexander, the person I spoke to over the phone, quickly told me it was best I shouldn't be trying to do that at home and to just bring my glasses in and they would help me out. I went in a few days later and sure enough, Alexander was there and he changed my lenses for me right away. His friendly demeanor was so comforting and I felt so welcome. Great first experience! I was here for the first time since my insurance changed so I had to change optometrist. I have to say that I was really happy with the service and knowledge they provided. Dr. Kattengell was extremely nice and she helped me as soon as Andrea at the front was done getting my information. I also have to add that Andrea was extremely nice and she helped me choose new glasses based on what I was looking for. She never seemed annoyed at the fact that I tried on so many. I definitely recommend coming here. Glasses are a pricey here but they are name brand. They have ray bans, Chanel, tom ford, and so many more. Have you ever gone to an optical appointment scared of the eyeball air "puff" that's soon to come in the exam? Me too! Actually, its the main reason I hate getting eye exams. Well rest assured my fellow Yelpers, this place doesn't partake in the eyeball air puff! Yeahhhhhhh, best news! Instead the doctor puts this thick clear liquid in your eye and has you look into a machine to test depth, letters and other objects. The doctor was really informative and the guys that work in the front of the store are both (I only met two) are really friendly. I price shopped a couple of different frames I wanted and found them to be roughly the same price as their competitors in the area. Will work with you to figure out which insurance policies work best to make sure you maximize savings. The only quibble is that the doctor isn't the most punctual when you make an early morning appointment. Although a tad tardy, she's great at what she does and thorough. The staff here is amazing. They go above & beyond to accommodate. I've been coming here for years. Even though I no longer live in the neighborhood, I'm willing to make the drive because of how pleasant they are to interact with. They have even emailed out my records when I lived in a different state on the fly, so I could get my contacts renewed. I happen to be window shopping as I was waiting for my table at Sugar fish next door. They had an amazing selection of both sunglasses and normal optical frames. I ended up making a appointment for a few weeks later. My original intentions was to only get contacts. But the employees here provide such great customer service that both my boyfriend and I got a pair. Mirreille was assisting me. She was patient and throughly. Took me through each brands cabinet, let me browse by myself, and also made suggestions. I never felt pressured or rushed even though there were a handful of other customers. Sorry to have to post a review like this especially when there are so many other great reviews. The great reviews is what made me want to do business with these people. I made an appointment to have an eye exam. The doctor seemed nice and professional. My vision has begun to get very blurry especially while driving, so I was excited to get new glasses. I spent some time trying on frames for my new prescription sunglasses. They also suggested that I needed to get a pair of clear glasses. I finally settled on the 2 frames which ended up costing me a whopping $1200.00. Shocked as I was at the price, I was desperate to begin to see clearly once more so I didn't complain. When my glasses were ready, I tried on the sunglasses and much to my surprise everything was still blurry. Isn't the point of prescription glasses so that you can see everything clearly? I told Armin who seemed like he didn't want to hear my complaint. He suggested that I spend the day wearing them so that I can get used to them. I did what he suggested and it only got worse. I brought both pairs back to him. He never even said that perhaps there was some kind of mix up and that they would try to make the problem right. Instead he refunded me half of the $1200.00 and turned the clear glasses into plain old reading glasses and the sunglasses have no prescription. So I spent $600.00 bucks for nothing. I have had to find another optometrist who can actually do their job. So, no I would never recommend doing business with these people. read more

I find the few negative reviews to not be fitting but to each their own so I'll add my little ol' experience. I give 4 stars since I havent picked up my glasses yet. I will need to wait about 10 days until my order is ready. I came to this location 9 yrs ago...not sure how I even heard of them..I must have googled the nearest location. Anyhow I already own a pretty sweet pair of spec's that I've had from them from all that time. I've been way overdue for an exams at the urgent prompting of someone. Armin was very prompt to email me back after my inquiry of insurance acceptance. I tried to changed my appt twice but failed due to booking but to my surprise he was very attentive and conscientious in calling me later in the afternoon the day prior to inform me the original time I requested was open if I still wanted it. Of course I accepted. I find that level of attentive detail really valuable and inviting. My experience in office was adequate. I ran late and was still seen. The female doctor whose name escapes me was very informative, walked me through every step of the exam, made a point to warmly make sure I knew all the equipment was wiped down because I always ask....I'm on OCD spectrum. She gave me her expert opinion about my care going forward. Getting to the frames is where I found it to be a bit disappointing. Maybe it's the trend now but I can't wear alot of frames because of my face shape having a oval shape omits certain specs which I found them not having a wider inventory of but bless his heart the gentleman in front diligently helped me looked for the match I was seeking until I was happy. This is where I found some of the negative reviews about pricing on yelp. My insurance coverage is pretty darn good so even with the higher end specs I still came out with a reasonable out of pocket cost. I feel like what would you expect coming to a higher end store located in the Marina if you weren't going to pay just a bit more for name brand specs?!?! They also carry standard lesser in cost frames. Ask question and make sure you know the extra costs you're adding to your order as well because you might not need some of that. I made sure I understood the items of recommendation what is necessary and what I could leave off. I found my second go round after 9yrs avoiding the eye doctor to be a very good one. The sales reps at the front of the store are great and patient, and helped me pick out a pair of glasses I'm pretty happy with after trying on maybe half a dozen pairs or more. I realized after I left the store that I should have used my HSA (the frames here are quite expensive and run far more than VSP will cover), and the reps were willing to reverse the charges so they could rerun them against my HSA the next day, which was really helpful. (4-5 stars for the reps in the front of the store) The exam I was less excited about. It felt fairly rushed, was much later than scheduled, and I was asked to try on new contacts in the exam room. That would be fine if there was a sink or even somewhere to place the contacts so I could open up the packages one at a time, instead I'm holding both awkwardly in front of a small mirror (with no ledge or anything) while trying to stick a contact into my eye with unwashed hands. It definitely wasn't very hygienic, and was a first -- even a Target eye exam doesn't quite go this way and is infinitely cheaper. (2-3 stars for the exam / doctor) read more

Checked out Modo because of their great selection of designer frames and they accept VSP. What was more impressive and will keep me coming back is the customer service. The entire team is wonderful. My new lenses were done, but before I had a chance to pick them up, I had an accident that required a prescription adjustment. Mireille and Dr. Choi were so understanding. Not only did they take the time to ensure my new prescription would be comfortable, they did not even consider charging me for the new lenses. These guys are the best. I was a budget glasses guy before finding this store. Stopped in on a whim. Armin greeted me, and was so casual and non pressure, that I felt like looking around. I had gone to a Lens Crafters and other stores before and felt assaulted. Other stores offer specials on frames, but bang you real hard on the price of the lenses. Looked around the store, and noticed that there was a great selection for a store of that size. Real high end frames to budget minded frames, and everywhere in between. picked out a frame that I liked and was over what I would normally want to pay, but Armin advised me that it did not look good for my face and was too small. He suggested a frame that was less in price, but fit and looked a lot better. I felt as though he was not into selling me the most expensive frame, as he could have. Next came the lens price. Asked him based on my requirements, and it was far less then all the big chain stores that I had bought and been quoted before, and a better lens (laser cut) to boot! I went for it. Got the frame back, and I could see much better then my old lenses( same prescription, better lenses). I've never gotten compliments about my glasses before. After about a week wearing new frames, and getting so many complements from girls and friends, I decided to return to Armin at the store. I proceeded to order two more frames and lenses. This was the last optometrist I ever used!!! Before my refractive, Lasik surgery, this was my last stop!!! My vision is now 20/20 in my right eye and 20/25 in the left eye but I will continue to come here for my annual eye exams. Of course, the frames here will cost more here than at WalMart or Costco but they carry the higher end brands. There is no logic in the complaints of the prices. It's like a person comparing a Coach purse with one purchased at Target. The selection here is not big but I was always able to find something I liked here. The staff here is friendly, professional, and most of all, it is convenient. There is a large yet crowded parking lot and they are OPEN ON SUNDAYS!!!! This office is located in the very busy MDR shopping center shared with Ralphs, the Post Office, See's Candy, CPK, and many other businesses. This place does accept my insurance so give this office a call and they will give you direct quotes. They are direct with no hidden charges. read more

This is THE best optical store in the City, they just have to be located in the Marina Del Rey. BUT they are Rodeo Road all the way! The selection of designer glasses exceeds anyone's expectations. The office is friendly, professional, and Armin and Andrea are knowledgeable and really understand the patient's needs and wants. The facility has an Optometrist on site for eye exams. Should you experience an eye emergency, the owner is quite adept at directing you to the appropriate medical facility. This is the only store I will go to and as a picky New Yorker (transplanted in LA) nothing beets this! Once you go there, you will clearly understand why. I have referred friends who feel the exact way. You owe it to yourself to go there first, and then you can have a cup of coffee afterward in the outdoor seating area. This review is too long so here is the crux: 1. My doctor was patient and found the *perfect* prescription for me. 2. The staff (Armin) is both friendly and insightful in finding frames that suit *you*. I stumbled upon Modo Optometry because they were listed on my vision insurance "find a doctor" directory. Never having glasses before, I didn't know what to expect and was actually somewhat nervous about getting an eye exam and then picking frames that would suit me. All my concerns were quickly alleviated as the friendly and helpful staff guided me through the process. I quickly met with Dr. Terry K. who began assessing my vision while answering all my stupid questions with clarity. After multiple A then B rounds, together we found my perfect prescription. With my new prescription in hand, it was time to pick frames. Never having had to wear glasses before, I really didn't know what to choose. My "sunglasses" preferences weren't really suited for clear glasses. I fumbled about trying on frames for a good 20 minutes (because I wanted to try to find the right pair by myself). After my selections, Armin, the cool front of house man, watched as I tried on my selections and quickly helped me narrow down to 2. He then made his own selections and within 3 minutes, I chose my pair. The pair I chose from his selections. After 2 weeks with these frames and numerable compliments, a few from complete strangers, I am glad I took Armin's guidance. I must say, I was really nervous, but Armin and Dr. Terry really lead the way and made me feel comfortable and confident through the entire process. Plus, I CAN SEE LEAVES!
