There are many places we call institutions but only a few can truly live up to that title. Moe's Crosstown Tavern is on such place. They opened in 1998 and have been a place to enjoy cold drinks and cheap eats ever since. They have very convenient parking with a free parking lot about a block away. It has a dive bar vibe while still being approachable and friendly service who does their best to make you feel at home. They are especially They are known for the quality of the food they serve. We started with their fried pierogies. These tasty dumplings are fried until golden brown and stuffed with mashed potatoes and chives with sour cream for dipping. A flavorful way to start your meal. We had to try their wings and they did not disappoint! We tried the garlic parmesan and the hot honey garlic. Both had nice garlic flavor and the hot honey provided a great, sweet heat. They get points for being generous with the celery. I tried the Polish Kielbasy with sauerkraut, peppers and onions on a toasted hoagie roll. The sausage itself was huge, and I could not finish it but not for a lack of trying. I got the onion rings for a two-dollar upcharge, and it was worth the price. Perfectly crispy with a tasty batter that didn't fall apart. My wife had their popular Rutledge burger with pimento cheese, bacon and a fried tomato with mixed greens. The burger was thick and juicy with a crispy char and was so filling my wife could not finish hers either. On Tuesdays they offer half priced burgers which is a pretty epic deal. So be sure to check out what I call the "Cheers of Charleston" and be pleasantly surprised. read more

We've been going to Moe's regularly for 13 years. We've been after baseball games, to watch the Final Four, and even the Derby. Moe's magic is that they're a TRUE neighborhood bar, have an edge/attitude, and take their food seriously. Come as you are, sit, be cool, and treat MCT with respect. We can only write to the wings because it's all we ever order. Hot, crunchy, and spicy/saucy. We did try the frozen (Slurpee machine) margarita and ordered another one (hey, it was hot outside). First time visiting Moe's but won't be the last! Charming pub that looks a little like a corner grocery from the outside. Feels like a neighborhood gathering spot. Lots of TV's with sports but none are glaring and none huge. One of the TV's above the bar has news on but there are 6 different networks sharing the same screen. For some reason there is an emphasis on Colorado Professional Sports Teams (maybe the owner is from there) And there is a Penn State Banner but I'll forgive them because the food and service was top notch. I had the burger of the day (cheddar, fried jalapeños, tomato and special sauce), perfectly cooked. Nancie had the Greek Salad, very fresh with plenty of Kalamata Olives and feta cheese, properly dressed. Amazed at the coordination of the two people working the front of the house. Everyone served pleasantly and quickly and the place was almost full. The kitchen turns lout legitimate food and the kitchen space has to be tiny because the rest of the restaurant is laid out so efficiently to utilize every inch. Divey little spot close to downtown Charleston. Solid place to post up and catch a game. It's super dark inside--barely any windows--so definitely more of a late-night vibe. Bathrooms are tiny, just a heads up. But drinks are cheap, especially by Charleston standards, which is a win. read more

We stopped in this neighborhood bar based on a friend's recommendation. We walked in, and regulars made room for us to be seated at the bar. When we asked what was good, we were offered many suggestions. We ordered 12 plain wings with sides of Thai Chile and Jamaican Jerk. Wings were perfectly crispy and delicious. I was brought here for lunch with my cousin. It doesn't look like much from the outside, just a corner bar, but don't let that fool you they have really good food. Found this place on Yelp, obs . It has great reviews! I mean ppl saying they moved away but come here whenever they're in town, good. So imagine my surprise when I didn't receive the wonderful food that everyone talks about in their reviews. I came with four friends, we all ordered burgers and every. single. one was burnt! We were pretty hungry so we each ate 1/4 to 1/2 but they were nearly inedible without picking at them. I ALWAYS take leftovers. I'm the person that takes other ppl in my party's leftovers when they're good (judge me). I definitely left the rest of the burger on the table. The fries were cooked well but under seasoned and the buffalo shrimp was over battered. The best thing that I ate was the onion rings. The two stars are for those and the decent service. I love this place. I know there are so many places to eat in Charleston but every time we have to come to the Citadel I swear my car drives itself here. The BLT with green tomato, mozzarella, and pesto is to die for and the wraps you can't go wrong. I hear the burgers are the bomb so that's next on my list. The panko veggies were a hit and their house made fries always hit the spot. You wouldn't expect it to be this good from the appearance on the outside but damn it's good. Great, chill spot for dinner or hanging out! Parking is super easy with the street or at the Hampton Park lot near the old baseball field. It's cozy and dive bar feeling but not grungy at all. Lots of table and booth seating as well as the bar. The waiter was friendly, quick and attentive. They do have specials so be sure to ask about those. Our food came out pretty quick and was all solid! The fries are excellent - fresh and crispy. The Caesar salad was really good. Their Buffalo sauce is nice but the chicken tenders themselves weren't my favorite. The monte Cristo was a winner for our table! read more

We also ordered bacon cheese fries (don't judge me yall, I don't eat this way every day! LOL!) and they were legit. And their ranch dressing was solid... I actually ordered a side salad with my burger because, obviously, another avenue for ranch! Ha! But the burger was so filling I didn't even get to the salad! We ordered chicken strips and fries for the kiddos and they were fans! They ate more than they have in a long time! So, we will definitely be back! The food was still dope, so that's why I gave it 2 stars. This experience was garbage. I have been to Moe's a half dozen times and have never experienced the crappy service I did this time. I know the food and beverage industry is suffering right now but that doesn't give the server the right to be blatantly rude. I work in hospitality so I know how difficult some customers can be but I also know that some people are taking advantage of the fact that the industry is suffering and doing/saying anything they want because they know the business is too desperate for body's that you have to damn near burn the place down to get fired. read more

TLDR: visit on a weeknight and I bet it's a great spot. College Football Saturday, wouldn't go for food alone. Giving it a 4 based on what I'm guessing it's like on a normal evening, not a Saturday. You probably already know Moe's, but if you're random tourists like we were, the deal is it's a super cool neighborhood bar, and also a sports bar, and so on a Saturday with big college football matchups on, it's fucking nutso in here even at 6pm. The guys that run this place all seem like friends (I was picturing them as the 3 dudes from It's Always Sunny minus Dee) and are right on top of everything even amongst the screaming drunks and general chaos. I had like 5 people rave to me about this place so I bet on a normal neighborhood weeknight it's great. On our night the kitchen was probably stressed to the max (they were also knocking out TONs of to-go) and so the salad, the club and even the limp, dried out fries were not great. read more

We've been to Moe's several times now and look forward to our next stop in. Moe's is super welcoming with a great staff that makes you feel at home right away. It's truly my kind of place, down home, ever so slightly divey, and no pretension here at all. Pricing is very reasonable. They have a great menu of sandwiches, entrees, and typical bar food items - all of which are delicious. Always a good number of beers on tap, with some great options. We stopped by Moe's for a late lunch today. It was recommended as a local watering hole with good sandwiches. We were fortunate to find it not too busy and we had great service. My buddy ordered burger and I went with a club. The food came out quickly and it looked good. The club sandwich was great. I liked the fact it was cut in half rather than quarters. So I've heard of Moe's Crosstown many many times but never actually have been or even seen the place. We stumbled upon it recently for brunch and I'm so glad we did. It is really welcoming, casual and the prices are fantastic! The menu has a great variety and the food was awesome. I had cheese grits as a side with my monte cristo sandwich, both are highly recommended. My grits were so creamy and perfect. I also tried a friend's biscuits and gravy which were super tasty as well; it looked like gravy soup with biscuit croutons (they're not skimping!).
