Food is horrible, only thing I would recommend is the chicken tenders because even though they burned the order it was still better than the uncooked burger. You could buy the cheapest ground beef at food lion and it would be better quality than what they are serving. Bartenders are crude alittle too shady for my taste. If I had not gone on an early Sunday morning run, I would have totally missed this gem. I was staying in Folly for vacation and decided to go on a quick AM run before breakfast around 8am. I saw some people walk into PF and was like "ok.. there's more than one breakfast spot open!" Since I had gone to the restaurant across the street from my hotel the day prior for breakfast, I figured it would be nice to check out somewhere else. I was loving the vibe here. I am a big dive bar type of person and PF fits the bill. No frills but still clean! The food prices were the best I had seen in Folly. My boyfriend and I got served right away. I had the sausage gravy & biscuits and it was the right amount greasy and delicious! Our server was friendly as well. I wanted to come back for lunch before my trip ended to try the cod sandwich but it never happened. However, if I am ever back in Folly, I will definitely be dining here! read more

While at the beach all day for a volleyball tournament, a friend suggested we go to Planet Follywood for some burgers. We called in our order and it was ready exactly when the lady over the phone said it would be. My boyfriend got the cowboy burger with fries and I got their garlic cheddar slider. So we had tried the crab shack & snapper jacks before stunning upon this place. Stumbled was the best thing we did. The crab shacks hostess said it would be. 30 minute wait and also mumbled there was nobody bussing the tables. Hint.. move on. Honestly thought this seemed like the type of place to grab a round of shots between the beach and the room after it having seemed like a local, affordable spot. Edit: I'll also add that I'm sure their patio is cool and it's just a fine regular bar, but it smells like super fried food when you walk in and honestly there's not much here to give a damn about. This place is definitely a dive bar that just happens to have some pretty darn good food. If you can get past the smoke and the drunk rednecks making out then your doing okay. Just down a few beers and it will help you through it! The fried okra is what I started out with. It is one of my all-time favorite things in the world. It rocked! We also had Allie's Hot dog basket which was good. In the basket there were 2 nathan's brand all beef hot dogs which are my favorite and french fries. You can choose what you want on your hot dog. A friend of mine got the same thing but he got onion rings instead which were also good. I also got to try the Crabbie Patty. It was okay. I would not order it again though. I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed Planet Follywood up until now. Planet Follywood is pretty much a staple of Folly Beach for locals and visitors alike. Planet Follywood has some pretty good happy hour prices and the drink prices in general are pretty reasonable for the island. When I'm here it's for a few cold beers and shots; or if it's brunch I'll do a Bloody Mary. The food here is pretty solid, basic bar food such as hamburgers and whatnot; but the burgers are pretty good that I've had. Service is great from the servers and bartenders. Be warned that Planet Follywood is very small, so it gets super crowded fast. read more

I spent Follygras weekend staying at a house with a group of friends. By the time late night Saturday rolled around we were definitely in need of a sobering bite to eat. We waited a little too long so our options were limited. Queue Planet Follywood as an Oasis for our stumbling bunch. There was just a few of us by this time and we were a hot mess, but the bartender took great care. We quickly got some menus, some beers... and waters and placed an order. I would like to give this place negative stars. We were the only table in the place yet here was our experience: -Took over an hour to get (the wrong) food -7 of our 10 meals were comically wrong -one burger came out with the wrong cheese, came back with a cold piece of cheese placed on top of the old cheese, came back again with the previous pieces of cheese scraped off and the wrong cheese added again -no one's meals came together so we all ate as much as 40 minutes apart -our bill came with mysterious items on it that "the computer just sometimes adds things" -we split the check, that had no discount in anyway, and all got overcharged "the computer does that sometimes" -we had to take out a calculator to show the server why it was wrong Literally the worst dining experience I've ever had. Was vacationing nearby and a friend of mine plays piano here on Thursday nights, so I stopped in to hear him. I'll admit when I arrived (never been in Folly Beach before), the place did not look as expected. I may have had my "snob" hat on, as it seems like quite a "dive bar" from the outside. I had my 18 yo daughter with me, and told her to look at it as an adventure. We went in and... wow. OK, the décor is about as you would expect from the outside. But we ordered appetizers and drinks (hers non-alcoholic). Since we had to return through unfamiliar territory to our vacation home, I drank very little and then had water. We drank A LOT of water... continually asking for refills. You know, free drinks. Ha. The food was good. The drinks were good. We were taking up important real estate, as the place was standing room only at some points. I felt a little guilty, but I HAD come from 10 hours away to hear him play, so I got over that. What was REALLY impressive was the service (and the entertainment). There must have been 50 people in there, maybe more. It was packed! And they were all constantly asking for drink refills, and yet, I never waited more than a minute for service - usually seconds. CRAZY. Everywhere else I went I read signs "We are short staffed. Please be patient" No such signs there, and no need for patience! Two guys were working and running the whole bar... and NO ONE WAS WAITING. I was blown away. Food. Water. Drinks. Full service! Also, David in Charleston rocks the house on Thursday nights. I'm so glad I got to hear him play "in his element". Ordered a beer and paid for it, took 15 minutes for him to even get it out of the cooler after I had to ask because he started serving other customers. Open for lunch and dinner and brunch on the weekends, this caters to all your needs (including late night). There are specials, game nights and open mic nights throughout the week to keep things spontaneous and fun. This is the type of place you walk in, have a beer, say hi to your neighbors and leave or sit down, have a great burger, cinnamon toast crunch shot, PBR and relax for a while. They are even selling 'Straight Out of Folly' shirts and hoodies for the holiday season. The only negative from this reviewers perspective is that they still allow smoking inside the bar. I know. PLEASE read this entire review to understand why I give it 5 stars, first of all it's a 5 star DIVE BAR and you MUST be in the mood for that. This is also half bar and half restaurant with rickity chairs and sticky tables and they do still smoke in here so be aware of that. Now with all of that said this place is great, the breakfast on the weekends is awesome and they have THE BEST Biscuits n Gravy on Folly. The Burgers are awesome, the service is surly and the beer is luke warm but cheap. Atmosphere is dive and dumpy and they have great rock cover bands on the weekends. The place is truly authentic. So good that my daughter and husband went back a few times for burger bonding. Friendly and casual place with artwork that you can buy. You can play Bingo. The food is great. If you come make sure to sit outside it's a very fun setting. We were looking for a place to eat and other restaurants had 2 hours waits but we came right up and sat down and had a great experience.
