There also wasn't any shade or any umbrellas, so standing outside for that long was definitely brutal (highly recommend they add a couple umbrellas or covering to help). That said... what a sandwich. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. However, in looking at the receipt after getting home, we noticed an added 10% living wage service charge that we did not notice at the restaurant, and no signage about this that we could see. We always tip well and thus left a tip of 25%, so in all, they received an extra 35%. It would be good to be informed about this up front, or better yet, that they are paid more to not need that extra charge. If we had been told, we may have adjusted our tip accordingly.
