My wife and I used to LOVE coming here when we lived in Birmingham several years ago. We ate there on an almost weekly basis. When we found out that there was going to be a Moe's not only in Durham, but TWO MILES down the road from where we live, we almost passed out. This location picks up immediately where the last one we ate at left off. We get the Wing platter every time we go and it never disappoints. We love Moe's Double Wide for a quick, delicious take-home meal for the family. Moe's pork bbq is great, but their buns (not your typical hamburger bun) really add to the sandwich. It came with pickles on it which I enjoyed very much. The potato salad was excellent as well. It is mustard based and exactly what I was looking for. They have good options for side dishes, and all of the sides I've tried are good. They aren't perfect and you won't confuse them for fine dining (e.g. collards are salty), but that's not why you go here. So. Damn. Good. We live down the block from Picnic but wanted to try something new. So glad we did. Service was awesome, food was delicious - hands down the best bbq we've had in NC. We did the Double Wide Haul It Home Pack and did half a pound of chicken and half a pound of pulled pork. Very good food here. I had the smoked chicken platter, which was very tender and juicy, not dry like it usually is when trying to bbq chicken. The sides were all good too. Had the hash brown casserole and baked beans, which were delicious. The only disheartening thing about the whole experience is that the main food prep guy, that was making all the food, was not wearing a mask. I'm not talking about a mask around his chin either. There was no mask anywhere on his person. Everyone else here was properly masked but the main guy making your food was not? If your fine with that then no problem, its a 5 star review. I've had American BBQ in Texas, Kansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina, so I'm somewhat of a BBQ maven. Most of the time I'm disappointed having BBQ anywhere other than at my favorite BBQ place in the world which is The Goode Company in Houston, TX. Also, I tend to like Texas-style BBQ because I like the smokiness of it. I don't like true Carolina-style BBQ because it's typically too vinegary. However, Moe's Original BBQ comes as close to perfection as I've had in Texas. Also, because it is Alabama-style, it isn't as vinegary and has some smokiness to the BBQ. Their signature BBQ sauce is a "white-sauce" which has mayo and vinegar as its base but it's not vinegary or overly sour. It compliments the pulled pork really well. The other "standard" brown BBQ sauce is a combination of Texas-style smokey with a hint of vinegar which compliments the ribs very well. The pulled pork was especially a delight. Unlike other places, it was moist to the point of being juicy and real tender, but not mush. It was the perfect combination of moisture, tenderness and FLAVOR -- even without the "white BBQ" sauce. The ribs were also full of flavor and like the pulled pork was also very tender and moist, even at the end of the meal -- this may not sound like much but believe me, when you've had as much BBQ as I have, you'll appreciate that the meat remains moist throughout the meal. Finally, the meat could be easily removed from the bone using plastic knife and fork. Again, this may not sound like much, but believe me, it goes to how well-cooked and tender the rib is without losing the texture of the meat and drying it out. And, because it was slow-cooked the right way, the fat drained well and was put to good use making sure the meat stayed moist. AWESOME! The sides typically are hugely disappointing at most BBQ joints that I've been to. However, again, Moe's Original BBQ has some of the best sides I've had. First, the cornbread is nothing short of amazing! Their collared greens were slightly salty but still very flavorful, tender, and all-around delicious! Their no-mayo cold slaw was also very good, and their baked beans were also top-notch, if not a touch, a hair, too sweet. But, I'll easily get over it given how yummy it is otherwise. However, the piece-de-resistance is the Jambalaya. I've had some good Jambalaya in New Orleans and this more than holds its own. I would strongly recommend that you get the Jambalaya, yum! The service is very good with a kind, nice and very helpful young lady at the order station and the owners are approachable, friendly and just plain-old nice. The decor is standard BBQ-drab, so don't expect too much, but believe me, if you're noticing the decor or the lack there of, you're not only there for the wrong reasons, you don't know and don't appreciate great food! If you are anywhere near Moe's Original BBQ, do yourself and your family a favor and go have a great meal at a reasonable price at this hidden gem in North Carolina. And, you'll feel very safe there as many local and state police offices eat there. To the great men and women in law enforcement, thank you for your service and thanks for the good food advice! Welcome addition to Durham's oddly lacking BBQ scene...other than the Q shack we don't have too many authentic bbq places around here. I ordered the turkey and my wife had the bbq chicken. Both were excellent. Sides were fantastic too. The chicken had much more flavor than Q shack and sides tasted like they were homemade. Also not as greasy as q shack's sides. The slaw was my favorite-made with vinegar and not mayo so it was light and went well with the chicken. And of course the grilled cornbread made the whole meal. Lots of food, reasonable prices, tasty and authentic-and looks like its a family run establishment which is always a plus. Will be back! read more

We were in the mood for some BBQ after touring Duke Unversity. The place was empty when we arrived, but the food pictures looked good, so we decided to stay and order and are very glad we did! The rib meat fell off the bones with no effort at all, the mac & cheese was a perfect blend of cheesy and sauce, and the green beans were outstanding. My wife got the catfish, which checked off her southern visit meal items and loved the hush puppy and brown beans.
