This is really the tale of two resturants. My first trip to Mofu was for a friends weekend and we not only ate amazing food, but enjoyed a lively staff, terrific atmosphere, and all around good time. Having had such a great experience, I re-booked this for my daughter's 18th birthday. Lackluster would be the word for this last experience. Not only was the food not as good as the first trip, the atmosphere and service were subpar. The staff is completely disengaged, the food service was poor, and the whole experience was blah. It really gives me pause recommending it or making this a place for nice dinners moving ahead. Perhaps the third time will be the charm but it will be a while before I consider giving it that tie breaking opportunity. read more

We had this for takeout, and I forgot a pic! The food itself was good, I really liked the impossible dumplings! I got a noodle dish that was good my husband got a steak noodle dish and wings we liked the food but felt it wasn't anything spectacular and for the price you could really go elsewhere. We didn't dine in so maybe you pay for the ambience. No comment on service again as we picked up. read more

We were first blown away with the ambiance. Felt like we stepped into another world. We were seated quickly. We went around 7pm on a Saturday. I'm not sure if we got lucky or not but we were able to walk right in and get seated. They do take reservations. The staff was very nice and helpful 100% of the time. My niece was with us and while they do not have a kids menu, they were prepared to concoct something that she would enjoy. Luckily, thanks to youtube, she has been wanting to try dumplings and enjoyed the Chicken & Garlic Wontons. She loved them. The food overall was delicious. They brought out an abundance of sauces and that is always a win for me because I'm the sauce Queen. I'm not sure about parking because we parked at the place we originally came downtown for earlier in the day. I did not see easy parking close by, just street parking. I recommend this restaurant for date night, trying something new, or girls night. Try it! You won't be disappointed. read more

This restaurant has potential to be good and maybe it was the day that we stopped by that made it very underwhelming. Most of the food was lacking flavor. Almost like things were under seasoned. We had an order of chicken dumplings, chicken curry, and beef noodle soup. The curry was the worst of the 3. I would recommend the packaged curry from the store over the curry offered here. We did receive good service and when I brought up that the food wasn't very good they offered to remake it. The remade version tasted the same. The restaurant did comp the curry so I will likely come back to try other foods mainly the dumplings. read more

Mofu Shoppe has a beautifully decorated and relaxed ambiance inside. The service was great and we got our food in a reasonable amount of time. We started with a Thai Basil drink, kimchi tots, and the Mofu wings. These were DELICIOUS, I don't think I've had such tender and well seasoned wings in a long time. The kimchi tots were one of my favorite dishes - the kimchi paired so well with the saltiness of the tater tots. The white pepper chicken was a special they had and was also great - it reminded me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The coconut curry was alright, we wished it had more rice to go with it. Unfortunately, the dish that didn't stand out was the tofu plate. I ordered it in replacement of the smoked pork belly it came with, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. It was a dry dish that I wish had more sauce and/or seasoning. The pickled daikon and carrot was a great addition though. Overall, I would come back for drinks and their great appetizers. Don't sleep on this spot!! My crew and I stop by here on our venture out to downtown during First Friday- quick seating to the bar which was actually pretty great. As we know with more than 3 the bar is a difficult way to hold a convo, so I'd recommend getting there earlier. We started off with the B-Side 75 and a Thai Basil Ricky (not pictured)- the B-Side paired well with the dumplings and the Thai Basil was so refreshing! Please, get the Kimchi tots and the Pork Chive dumplings the basil pops and the dumpling skins aren't overall thick and the filling ratio is fantastic. The kimchi tots I wish there was more kimchi, but that's because I love tang and bitter tastes :) Any who I'll recommend this to anyone and everyone; and bring back my friends for a stellar experience. read more

This is a lovely but slightly overpriced. The ambience is my favorite thing about this restaurant. It's laidback and comfortable. Well decorated and not very loud. I came with my husband after a day walking in downtow and we enjoyed sitting here and taking a break. As I stated, i believe the food was a tad overpriced. I had the pho and though it was good it though wasn't anything to go home and brag about. My husband had the rice bowl and the pork belly was delicious. The menu didnt have as many options, I felt a bit limited. The service had no fault. The hostess was very friendly and our waiter did a great job. He was attentive but not overbearing. We have eaten here several times before and had great experiences. This time we ordered a chicken special and the chicken was completely raw and uncooked. The "manager" was completely clueless, and not that age usually matters, but he had to have been 20 at best and it showed. His response to seeing the chicken was that "he isn't a cook or chef" and "he wasn't sure what was wrong with it or why it looked that way," so he will need to check with the kitchen. And then he didn't even come back, someone else did. The person who came back didn't even ask if we wanted something else or offer any type of resolution other than she literally just brought the check to us (we didn't ask for the check) and told us she took the dish off the bill. No apology, no explanation. It's absurd. I would be mortified if I was a manager and I sent out an entire table raw chicken. Never again. read more

We embarked on or dumpling craving here one day for the bulgogi dumplings given the rave reviews on the dumplings. We literally just got dumplings (and a couple Tokyo Mules!) The other main dishes Shanghai beef and beef with noodles were also not exciting or inspiring, quite dry meat and nothing to write home about. The bell peppers tasted fresh, but definitly overpriced americam asian styled dish. Didnt real taste authentic asian at all. Our waiter was not attentive to us like he didn't refill water, I went and asked someone else for it, and he was kind of MIA a lot, but had such a great spirit of joy when he did come around to us....Definitely not the most kid Friendly with no changing table and their front entrance has stairs (you come around the side for the ramp access fyi, I figured it out but no one thought to share that info as I'm navigating a massive stroller lol).... all in a an ok place and food. Our server (Brittany) was horrible. We waited over 10 min to even be approached and it was by another server (Gracie) who apologized even tho it wasn't her table. She put in drink orders for us and we waited and waited for Brittany to come and take our order. When she did arrive she seemed totally out of it. She never returned to ask how the food was or if we needed anything. We had to flag her down to order another round of drinks. Double cooked pork belly, kimchi tots and Brussels were our favorites. Steak tartar was bland. We just moved in across the street. Lots of great places in the area... not sure we would come back. I don't enjoy restaurants that the servers act like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. Overall the food is good... not great. Not worth the hassle. read more

This place has been on my list and I finally made some time to check it out. I ordered take out online for lunch one day and was pleasantly surprised. The curbside service was prompt. The food was piping hot and smelled utterly delicious. I dove into the impossible dumplings first. OMGGG! A must try!! So flavorful and light. You can definitely tell they make the dumplings in house as they are fresh and have a light crisp. They are $12 for 5 and it's def worth it! It comes with soy sauce and some sort of sweet and sour sauce which are both good, but the dumplings are fantastic just on their own. The Thai basil noodles were just as good as well. There was a bit of spice that wasn't too overwhelming. It's loaded with lots of veggies, which I loved. The portion was great as well. It's definitely enough for two servings. Parking may be difficult since it's downtown but it's worth the hassle. I am so looking forward to checking out some of their other menu items. We did not have the chance to try the food truck so I cannot compare this sit down location to its predecessor. All I know is this place rocks. We came on a busy night, sat at the bar and were wowed from there. Crispy Brussels are amazing, every bite was like fireworks in my mouth. Visited while on a work trip last month, and was a bit disappointed given my high expectations. The atmosphere is contemporary and clean - with a bar, wooden tables and chairs, and a loft area overlooking the main dining hall. Our group didn't have much time for lunch so we ordered quickly. I ordered hot green tea, and it was served in a french press - quite unusual! The others I was eating with were local to Raleigh and had their lunch favorites - mostly one of the bowls (rice bowl, poke bowl...). I opted for the pork belly Banh Mi instead, which is my favorite sandwich. Service was friendly, and our food came quickly. A small MOFU salad preceded my lunch entrée, and I polished it off quickly. Fresh greens, but on the dry side, with thin sliced toast instead of croutons. Then my Banh Mi arrived. It was massive and overstuffed, the innards spilling out, almost Dagwood-like! I picked it up and immediately put it back down - it was greasy to the touch. I opened it up to see what was causing this - it was the pork belly, which was overly greasy, and they had also liberally dressed up the fixings, adding to the sogginess. I didn't want to cause a delay by sending it back, so I carefully took a bite. Usually I have no problem with juice dripping down my chin while I eat; unfortunately this was a bit too much! The sandwich tasted fine, but I'd have enjoyed it much more if they'd dialed back a bit on what was inside - sometimes, less is more. We wrapped up lunch by sharing an order of Asian Churros, again not something I'm used to seeing, so kudos to them for surprising me again. It was softer than the Latin American version, but cloyingly sweet. A good idea, poorly executed. Overall, nice effort, but they have a few things to work on. Looking forward to trying one of the lunch bowls next time I'm here. read more

We discovered Mofu on a walking restaurant tour 2 years ago. Finally made it back! Nice open space with a very modern vibe. Food highlight was the pork belly, tender meat with a very flavorful sauce. Pork and chive dumplings were very good, and our friends enjoyed the beef bulgogi dumplings. Mushrooms very tasty as was the pho. Cocktails are good too, I liked my rickey and my wife loved the lychee based cocktail. We will not wait another 2 years to go back! read more

We came here tonight after making reservations for 7:30-definitely recommend making reservations because this place is hopping! We were seated after having our temperatures taken; hand sanitizer was also available upon entering. We were seated at a table with candlelight. Starting with the ambiance and decor, I loved the industrial feel and lighting. It had a very trendy vibe and is perfect for every occasion, whether it's getting a bite after work or a date night. The service was exceptional. The staff was friendly from the time we stepped inside until the time we left. We were checked on by multiple staff, all being super helpful with the menu and recommendations. The pork dumplings were absolutely phenomenal. The beef bulgogi was quite good, as well. The fried rice was yummy--I liked that it wasn't super heavy and was a different flair than your typical. The Brussel sprouts made me love brussel sprouts and that's truly saying something. Loved the pickled onion. The Jazzmaster and the Gingham Style were great. I loved the plum cayenne salted rim on the Jazzmaster. The spice from the Gingham Style gave it a good kick. The price was very reasonable, too, especially for downtown dining. We told the waitress we were going to be back even before trying anything, if that tells you anything. We frequent Mofu shop since we're around the area pretty regularly! It's a great place to dine with friends get lost with good conversation and great foods that we can share. Cocktails are delicious and thyme always have something interesting to try! We came here in January with a group of friends! We all had a couple round of drinks trying different ones on the menu! We tried all the dumplings they had as appetizers and we could have simply kept ordering them as they were simple, delicious and easily shareable! But on this day they had a Bone Marrow Pho special that I just had to try! And I'm glad I did! It didn't seem like a big bow of food, but it was! I was stuffed when I finished my meal! The broth was seasoned perfectly and I didn't need to add any other seasoning! I definitely wish I had more bone marrow but I'm sure my cholesterol appreciated the fact that it only had one! Really enjoyed my visit to Mofu Shoppe! Made reservations for a Wednesday night at 6. Only one or two other tables were taken when we got there. They were very cognizant of making things feel safe with COVID. They take your temperature at the door and ask you to keep your mask on unless actively eating. There is also hand sanitizer readily available. I cannot recommend the Kimchi fries enough! The spicy Mayo and the sweet soy sauce are perfect additions to the fries. Unfortunately, the server was unnecessarily unpleasant to us. I truly have no idea why. We fully appreciate waitstaff, are always respectful and leave a 20% tip (not that she would have known the last part until we were done). I'm really glad I have this place a second try. The first time I went, the food and drinks weren't quite right. I didn't hate but didn't love anything worth coming back for. Now that I went back recently, it's sooo much better. The chicken wings soo sauce and the chili lime were great. I loved the pork as well as the bulgogi dumplings. We got fish tacos and the smoked duck poutine which we both loved. If you went here when they first opened like I did and wasn't impressed, you should definitely give them another shot. Went here for lunch with my sister - did not disappoint. We tried some pork dumplings and MOFU wings for appetizers. Shared a bowl of the Dan Dan noodles. Those were absolutely the star! It had more of a BBQ taste to it, which we weren't expecting. We LOVED it. Honestly, everything we ordered was spot on. Would definitely bring others here. Service was a bit slow, surprisingly.
