I been to Mofu Shoppe a couple of times over the years and never been disappointed. Their food is always flavorful and they frequently introduce new dishes. This time I tried the Braised Cumin Lamb that was just added to the menu. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. I love Bok Choy so that was a hit. We also got the Mofu Wings which were perfectly crispy. Just the way I like them. For my cocktail, I had their take on an Old Fashioned. It's was citrusy and had a unique flavor. I would get it again.
first time coming in and the restaurant is beautiful. an upscale casual dining experience. the host was super friendly and led us to our table quickly. we did have a reservation too. we had a party of four and ordered a lot of food. first were the wings. they were glazed in a fish sauce based sauce. i'm vietnamese so i LOVE fish sauce and unfortunately, it didn't have a strong flavor of fish sauce. i understand it is a very powerful ingredient. but the wings were so crispy and juicy and the cilantro sauce on the side was great too. the pork and chive dumplings were pretty standard. nothing special. delicious nonetheless. mussels were great as well. the broth was a tom yum soup based. the fried chicken bucket was the same batter as the wings but came with breast meat too. it unfortunately wasn't anything that special. it was good and it said it was brined but i didn't taste any brine flavor in the meat. the side pickles were okay and the rice was cooked perfectly. also the bao buns that came with it were the perfect vehicle for the crispy chicken. overall, it was a good meal. it wasn't amazing but i still enjoyed my meal. the staff were friendly and helpful. i would come again in the future to try other items on their menu.
Friday we had reservations for dinner here with family to celebrate our daughter's masters graduation from NCSU. We were a little late due to traffic and called to let them know. When we arrived they were so nice and didn't make us feel badly. Our waiter was awesome. He was funny and honest and suggested some really great things to try. We ordered it all. And then some. We had all of the dumplings. Not sure which was my favorite but I could not tell the beyond wasn't meat. So good. The white pepper chicken was really tasty but don't eat the red peppers if you're sensitive to heat. They are Fresno peppers and are en fuego. Brussels sprouts were fantastic! Interesting tofu puffs in there. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the tots. They got soggy too quickly. I had the cold brew martini because my jet lagged booty was lagging. It was perfection. We tried the lychee margarita, the aperol things, the spritz, and a few different beers. All good. Our waiter remained awesome throughout our whole drawn out evening. I hope we can visit another time we are in Raleigh. Parking is a little difficult on weekends.
I had heard really great things about MOFU Shoppe, so I was really excited to try it. It's in a fun spot in downtown Raleigh. I would say it's perfect for a work dinner or a date night. It's got a cool, industrial vibe. We got seated without a reservation, but I'd say there's a decent amount of tables in the downstairs area and in the upstairs loft. The service was great, and our server was really nice and helpful. The menu is small, with a few appetizers, entrees, and dumplings. They also sell cocktails, which were Asian inspired. We ordered the wings, noodles, and a rice dish. I will say that the portions were pretty sizeable. My complaint about MOFU is that the taste of the dishes were inconsistent. While we loved the wings, we felt that the noodle dish was not that tasty. It was mostly just paste and noodles. Overall, I'd say there are some standout dishes that we liked here, but unfortunately we had some that really let us down.
we were going to a show nearby and wanted a good place for dinner with friends so decided to try MOFU. It's an asian-fusion restaurant with small plates and mains - we each got a couple of different things to try. most were good, some were alright. we got the kimchi tots, the mofu seasonal salad, the pork belly, the wings, beef tartare, and the beef noodle soup. we also got drinks. standouts were the salad, the wings, and the pork belly. the tots were alright and the noodle soup was not good. drinks were good and the service was great
Decent Asian option downtown. The menu is what initially drew me in for the uniqueness of some dishes. The inside is really nice, decor isn't the cheesy "asian inspired" randomness, but more of a nice modern touch of Asia. Started off with the Mofu Wings with the nuoc mam sauce - the chicken was fried nicely but the nuoc mam was too sweet opposed to the anticipated prevalence of fish sauce flavor. Also ordered the Minced Pork Stir Fry with the canton noodles - reminded me of a Dan Dan inspired dish but the meat was different, in a good way. The only gripe was it was too salty. Overall, service was good and was fun to see they were hosted what looked like a dinner club or something while we were dining there. Would come back and try other dishes.
On a busy first Friday night in downtown Raleigh, we decided to have dinner at Mofu Shoppe! There was a 35-40 minute wait for a table for 2 (we didn't make a reservation), so we opted to sit at the last 2 seats at the bar! It took a little time for one of the awesome bar tenders to wait on us, but it's understandable for a super busy Friday night. It's a super cute vibe. There's even a little upstairs balcony looking seating area. I really liked the vibe here. The service was pretty good to top it off! My daughter had been here before and surprisingly it was my first time. Since she had decided to come here again, I let her order. She ordered us several shareable to share :) The Beef Bulgogi Dumplings were absolutely amazing. It came with an even more yummy kimchi bbq sauce for dipping. The Kimchi tots were amazing, such an amazing flavor profile. On to the Mofu Wings, they have a few flavors, we ordered the Thai Chili, soooo delicious. And lastly the Crispy Brussels w/ Fried Tofu. The Brussels were delicious. I was literally dancing in my seat the food was so good. If you know me, I hardly ever give 5's. I give glowing 4's, but 5's are rare. I'll be dreaming about this food until I go back next.
I was excited to try Mofu Shoppe since I heard some good things about it plus they won The Great Food Truck Race a few years ago. It has a casual industrial vibe with an expansive bar. The setting is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. Cocktails were excellent. The lychee margarita was amazing. I forget what the other drink's called but it had mango purée, sake & coconut. It tasted just like mango sticky rice! Mofu wings & pork & chive dumplings were pretty good. Braised cumin lamb shank was fork tender and well seasoned. The collards that came as a side were phenomenal! I could eat bowls of that. My entree, the Thai Red Squash Curry was a bit too salty. It probably would been better if the rice was served separately instead of in the same bowl. Service was just ok...not very attentive since our server disappeared for a while & didn't refill our water. I'd definitely come back just for the drinks & the collards!
My friends and I made reservations for this place after hearing lots of great things about it. We got the kimchi tots to share and I got the Thai Basil Noodles for myself. The tots were absolutely wonderful and a great flavor profile between 2 different cuisines. The Thai Basil Noodles were okay. Definitely lacked spice but can always ask for chili oil or siracha on the side. My friends got the dumplings but you only get 5 for $12 which we did not think were worth it especially after trying them since they were not anything special. I'm inside atmosphere was really cool. Lots of open space and a good bar as well as a good drink selection. Staff was friendly as well and pretty helpful. Prices were decently priced except for the dumplings. Overall, a good location and pretty decent food. Will likely come back one day if there are new vegetarian options added to the menu.
I have been to mofu before and had a fine experience, but my time here the other night was an all-around great experience. I saw multiple reviews beforehand about a certain server but didn't think much of it. Halfway through the meal, my family was talking about how great the service was, and thats when I realized we had Drew, the server so many others had wrote about! I thought that was funny. Although it's too late to get it, one of my favorite dishes we got was their state fair special of a corn dog banh mi. It was so innovative and thematic (not to mention delicious). We got a lot to share, and I don't think their was a single bad dish. The lowest on my list, however would be the noodles. I felt it didn't have as much flavor as I wanted. I really loved the curry but it is definitely spicy so beware of that. They also had some gluten free options, but I wouldn't suggest being gluten free here simply because it would be too sad to watch others eating cute little dumplings. I went on a Saturday night and it wasn't crazy busy when we first got there around 6, but it picked up a little later. I would recommend having reservations to be safe. Thats what I did. Closing statement : come here with a group of people and share a bunch of food so you can try everything!
Everything was delicious! We ordered both version of dumplings and wife and I couldn't decide which one we liked more. Also ordered the pork belly bao buns and both agreed was one of the best we had. Pork belly was super crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The entrees were very good. Shaved beef noodles were tender and flavorful and wife loved her fried rice. Good amount of spice but not over powering. Definitely coming back here!
YES finally a dumpling spot you can count on! You will not regret going here, getting a ton of stuff, splitting it, and leaving full. Pretty much everything we had was incredible but make sure to get the twice cooked pork belly - TRULY insane, I am still thinking about it. Sweet, crispy, buttery, GET IT. We got all the dumplings with protein and I loved them all. The chicken and ginger is a wonton so it's crispy fried and crunchy, incredible. The pork and chive have a great sauce and was so savory. My fave was the bulgogi but I mean bulgogi is just an unfair comparison. GET TO MOFU AND THANK ME LATER!

Omg, everything about this place is just too good - the ambiance, the food, and the service too. We were there for the date night and they accommodated us upstairs at this beautiful window spot! We tried their Mofu Wings, dumplings, and bowls to be honest it's hard to choose what was the best. The only thing is their service is just a tiny-tiny bit slow or maybe when you are seated upstairs it's not a lot feasible for a server to do up-down, I wouldn't cut star for that! Overall, a great experience, and will often be back to this place! read more
First time at this beautiful restaurant. Felt very COVID safe with high ceilings and lots of space between tables. We ordered the Berry Smash and Lychee Margarita. A bit later we ordered the Brussels appetizer. The appetizer was literally at our table within two minutes but still no drinks. We held off on the appetizer because we prefer to enjoy our cocktails first. They were absolutely delicious. Once we dug into the Brussels they were amazing, too. For entrees I had the Pork Belly Bowl and husband had the Mofu burger. They were both good but the cocktails and Brussels were the highlight. Small water glasses and we sat without water for awhile. Waitress was super sweet. She was trying her best but said they were short staffed. Overall, very enjoyable experience. read more
Hubby and I were super excited to visit MOFU Shoppe, a chic Asian fusion eatery and try their popular delicious chicken wings. The waitress was nice and restaurant had a lovely aesthetic. While the food was all delicious, it definitely had a unique take on classic Asian dishes. Probably most disappointed by the fact that lobster fried rice was no longer on the menu although the Dan Dan noodles were also a bit confusing and lacking in the traditional chili sauce common to dandanmien. I would highly recommend the Mofu chicken though and their Kimchi tots. read more

First time last evening. We called and found quick avail at the bar. Seated us at the end just the two of us. Easy, polite hostesses and a smiling bartender! Went with a couple cocktails made perfectly to start. Then decided on The Green curry mussels (we had been told at another place same eve seafood wasn't avail due to gas issues?). Pic attached of the best, largest mussels we have had since one time in HonFluer, France! Tres Bon!! Moved onto the chicken wings and dumplings next which were, again large and meaty and quite good. All in all a great experience with a very personable staff who were doing their very best in the "Psuedo Post Covid" times we are in. Highly recommend read more

We heard so much about this place so wanted to give it a try. Cute and cozy ambience. Super friendly staff. Food was good. Had their beef bulogi and pork and chive dumplings which were good starters. Our youngest wanted to give their beef pho a try. Don't recommend getting pho at this place. Not made correctly. Overall we had a good experience. Support our local businesses! read more

A few outside tables to go with the well spaced interior seating. Cool atmosphere. We were able to get a table without a reservation Friday night but we got lucky. The food is good, the Kimchi Fries are very good. The dumplings were good too. The GF loved the pork dumplings. The Curry Katsu was Ok but the chicken was a little bland. The desserts were great especially the Asian Churros. The mixed drinks were the highlight. But they have a limited craft beer selection. read more

This place is our favorite Raleigh restaurant! It's very reasonably priced and fresh. I love the Brussels sprouts with pork- it's a meal to dream of. The ambience is both family friendly and date night appropriate. It's right around the corner from an awesome gelato place. read more

Brought to you by the ladies of the Pho Nomenal Dumpling Food Truck, MOFU Shoppe is serving up tasty Asian food in downtown Raleigh. This restaurant is beautiful, loved the space. To start I ordered a Tokyo Mule. This cocktail consists of plum wine, gin, lime and ginger beer, yum! As far as the food goes, it was amazing. Our party of 3 decided to split a few menu items. The Sol Tacos are a MUST order, the fried flounder was cooked to perfection. No debate this was everyones favorite dish of the night! The Pork & Chive Dumplings were fantastic as well. I really enjoyed the dumpling itself as well as the filling. The dumplings are served with 2 dipping sauces: sweet & spicy and black vinegar toasted sesame. The two dishes that we probably would not order again were the Seared Shrimp Cake and Crispy Smoked Pork Belly. Just not a fan of the consistency of the shrimp cake and the pork belly was dry. In the end, MOFU Shoppe is definitely a place that you will want to try in downtown Raleigh. read more

THE BIG: Cool dumpling spot. The ambience and environment is awesome. The shop is essentially off of Blount St, but in Market Hall Square. There is an upstair space which I think is for a more intimate dining area. I like the couches facing the windows...so you can people watch. THE BLACK AND WHITE: A few friends and I came here after getting dinner at Raleigh Raw and were still hungry so a friend recommended MOFU for dumplings. Stumbling in, the space is pretty big. We got seats at the bar and ordered small plates. I got the brussel sprouts and dumplings. I was expecting big portions since they were $9 each...which is tetering entree prices. I would've given some leeway if the dumplings were good...but they were kinda bland and had this weird pink fry layer on top. The brussel sprouts were good and had good pork belly chunks. I got the mule for the drink. Super tasty. Disclaimer, the drinks here are also around ~$11-$12. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall for 2 small plates and a mixed drink equaled out to $32.21 including tip and tax. I wasn't thrilled on the serving size of the small plates for how much they cost. 5 dumplings for essentially $2 each is highway robbery. The drink was good. read more

Mofu is a very unique Asian fusion restaurant from the atmosphere to the food. You must give this place a try! I stopped here while on a Raleigh food tour and enjoyed all the tastings we were given. One of the owners shared her story and the backstory of the restaurant. The owners were actually the winners of season 6 of the reality tv show, The Great Food Truck Race - pretty cool! The Honey Sriracha Brussel Sprouts are hands down the best Brussel sprouts I have ever had. I also had a dumpling and one of the best chicken wings I have ever had. The sauce on the chicken wing was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. They are doing something right here and you need to experience it for yourself. I can't wait to come back!! read more
I loved MOFU! We ended up choosing this place because there was a long wait at the restaurant that we chose but I'm so happy that we did. I told my friend that it was on my to try list very glad I was able to go tonight. When we were arrived I was so thankful to see open seating. We were greeted by the host with an amazing smile and she seemed very happy to see us. We ended up sitting in the middle of the restaurant which was cool and it didn't feel cramped. The menu was very plain and simple with just enough so that you won't get overwhelmed. The ambience of the place was great. The lights were dimmed a little so if you were looking for something romantic this would a good choice but there is also a huge bar so if you wanted to have some fun you could do that too. There are huge windows that provide great natural lighting My friend and I ended up ordering green tea (add milk it's delicious) with the pork dumplings and the fish tacos and yall it was so delicious. The fish tacos come with a side of rice that's to die for. We ended up paying $35 for everything. Our server Troy was great. He recommended some great menu options. He was very attentive to my friend and I we never had to ask for refills or anything. Just an all around cool guy. The parking is great too. There are parking decks across the street as well as street parking if you are able to find a spot. Overall love this spot and the food was amazing. Definitely coming back soon. read more

Surprise date night. Looking for a place to go that our 7 year old would not enjoy. Lol. Here it is!! Pork and chive dumplings. Amazing! Curry chicken satay .... juicy and so delish ... not sure about the cucumber sauce ..... eh Duck poutine!!!!! OMG. Skipped some fries for more food to eat. So amazing. The Marrow. This is kind of a weird thing to eat to be honest, but my wife loves it. So ....... and this was amazing. So well flavored and the mix of texture was just the right amount of everything. KFC buns. Ok. This one is tricky. We felt the pickles really made this something to write about. The sauces were ok..... but just the simple combo of the seasoned breading and the pickles were enough for a tastebud happy dance !! Cheers MOFU. Cheers! read more
We loved mofu. Every bite Was better than the last. We started off with the dumplings. Cooked to perfection, soaked in the perfect sauce. Everyone at the table loved it. Then we tried the wings. So crispy, juicy inside and the flavors where incredible. We debated canceling the rest of our order and just getting more wings. Absolute perfection. Then the chicken burger was the perfect finale to our crispy chicken dreams!! Loved the quality of the food, flavors did not lack and the experience was great. I'd come back and do the wings again for sure. All the side sauces where great combos. Come here!! read more
Wow, pretty impressive start for the MOFU Shoppe and the ladies behind the Pho-nomenal Dumpling food truck! They've brought Asian-fusion back to downtown Raleigh in a wonderful space just past City Market on Blount Street. For my first visit, I was really surprised at how well the restaurant was run. The interior is fantastic, high ceilings, bricked interior with a small 2nd floor dining area. It feels a bit industrial and modern at the same time. A lovely bar sits front and center with some glass paned cover overhead, very cool. The menu at MOFU is sort of Chinese, sort of Asian, mostly spins and flavors rather than anything authentic. We tried a crispy pork belly that seemed to be smoked along with a solid 5 spice duck that was a generous portion of tender duck with a enoki mushroom cake and cherries, excellent. And while I expect the place to morph a bit in the first several months, they are off to a great start in my opinion. The Gals from Pho Nomenal Dumpling Truck who won Season 6 of Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race" have put their $50,000 winnings to really good use and opened this fun new restaurant in downtown Raleigh. (in the building where some of us learned how to Segway) Having watched them work their tails off on the Race, I have no doubt that they continued to do so in the subsequent two years to actually get a brick-and-mortar up and running. No doubt another difficult task. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table for two where Ruth Lee took very good care of us. Water is brought out in the trendy bottle-no-ice-way, nicely chilled. Two menus were presented to us. The first one invited us to have a complimentary drink! Now that's a way to welcome guests to a new restaurant! Ruth Lee explained that they hadn't yet gotten their liquor license, but they could offer their guests a free drink. Sounds like a great way to circumvent that issue to us! From the choices offered, Husband chose an Old Fashioned while I had a glass of Malbec. The menu has small plates and bigger ones. We decided to try four of the small plates: Sticky Orange Cauliflower, Tom Yum Chicken Skewers, Crispy Beef Noodles, and Pork Dumplings. I'm happy to report the table was big enough for all four at the same time, although it was a bit cramped. They were all indeed small plates. Both of us agreed our favorite was the Pork & Chive Dumplings with two dipping sauces. Chicken was a bit dry, but the creamy avocado dip moistened them up in a very tasty way. Cauliflower wasn't sticky at all, but fried. Not quite what I expected, but worked really well dipped into the sauces that came with the dumplings. Heck, I think ANYthing would be good in those sauces. Crispy Beef Noodles were very interesting. Good, but our least favorite of the four. We certainly could have ordered more as we weren't stuffed, but we were comfortable. Looking forward to going back to try more things! Would love it if they offered a dumpling variety. Cool interior and friendly service, but food was just okay. The server said one of their most popular items was the smoked pork belly bowl, but the "pork belly" was essentially thick cut chewy bacon texture and not at all what I was expecting. The corn and veggies didn't add much flavor. The pork and chive dumplings was probably my favorite item - but not a ton of food for $9. Popcorn mushrooms - battered trumpet mushrooms, not the best texture (mushrooms aren't really suited for frying), but fine. brussel sprouts - another popular dish. This was okay, but soaked in a sweet sauce and didn't really have any chicken thigh, as advertised. I guess it's hit or miss with the dishes and the day you visit. read more

Got the chicken skewers, chicken/ginger dumplings and pork/chive wontons. Everything was AMAZING. We got everything to split, the Thai noodles and fried rice as well. My personal favorite was the wontons because of the crunch. Setting was very cute, near Fayetteville street. Will be coming back and recommending to friends ! read more
Looked very good in the pictures. Saw it was hot and new and decided to give it a try. We got the cauliflower, the pork chop, and duck. Waitress said medium rare was how they would liked to cook the meat and we agreed. The presentation was spot on. Looked really great! Unfortunately for my palette the cauliflower was too acidic, the duck was seasoned well by a little on the rare side and the seasoning was not thorough, the pork chop had a nice flavor profile but was bland and overall a little dry. Nice flavor profiles for the main courses but seasoning was inadequate. Very nice environment and friendly staff. read more

I've been really enjoying this place with my eyes through Yelp and couldn't wait to try it out! I chose MOFU for dinner date with my friend, and I'm so glad I did it. The interior looks trendy and beautiful. I'd say it feels like a cool-looking place where you'd want to order some tea or coffee and spend hours reading some good books! I loved how the table was set with a cute little plant. Love love love it! I've seen some pictures on Yelp, so I knew I had to order Coconut Honey Rice Pudding. After reading through the menu, we've decided to order Crispy Beef Noodles and MOFU Salad. Amazing choice! The noodles were shaped like octopus legs, which I thought was pretty interesting. I kind of thought the soup was a bit on the salty side, but I didn't plant to drink the soup so it didn't bother me much. The veggies and crispy beef (really crispy!!) were so perfect with noodles. The salad. Where do I even begin? I don't usually enjoy salad bc I'm more of a carnivore than a rabbit. But this salad blew my mind! I loved small oranges and peanuts in the salad. It was a small bowl o perfection. The pudding was unbelievably delicious. It was soft and sweet, but not too blend or overpowering. I'm so glad we ordered it! I personally thought both noodles and salad were smaller than I expected, especially after our waitress told us that the beef noodles is a big dish. It's definitely not a big dish! Anyway, we were boh full at the end of the meal, and I plan to bring my family over so they can try the amazingness! read more
Full disclosure: i was here for a Chamber networking event and did not order a meal in the restaurant. The decor is mostly open and modern, and the bar area was busy during our event. Don't know how it is regularly, but they did seem to offer a good selection of beer, wine and cocktails. Our hors d'ouevres at this event included some dumplings, chicken wings and fried brussels sprouts. It was all tasty, and I would go back to actually eat here at some point. It seems they are more a modern Asian fusion type restaurant, so know that they aren't necessarily doing traditional dishes. read more

Perfect spot for a quick bite. My favorite way to experience MOFU is to stop in and sit at the bar. The space has plenty of seating on the main floor, plus and extra mezzanine floor for other/larger parties. The cocktail list is fairly well crafted, but mainly consists of gin and tequila drinks. They do have a full bar plus sake options. My personal go-to drink is the Gin Jam. My favorite plates to get are the wings with the nuocmam lime glaze, the chicken & ginger dumplings, and a funny enough, a side of fried rice! They're well known for their dumplings so definitely get at least one order to try. The price point is just a hair over what I usually think it will be but the food portion sizes and fair. The restaurant itself is in a bustling part of Downtown Raleigh so it's great to pop in on the way to a show, during festival, or to kick off a date night. The staff is super friendly and attentive--service has never been a problem for me, and the atmosphere is lively but comfortable. Definitely a recommend! read more

We had a nice evening here! The atmosphere is really fun and hip. The staff is great and our waitress was very attentive. We tried a few small plates and shared. My favorite thing we tried was the smoked pork belly bowl! It was delicious and pretty filling. The spicy wings were good but I'd skip the sweet lime wings. The pork and chive dumplings were just 'okay'. We wanted to try to key lime pie but they did not have it that night we tried the Vietnamese mousse instead. The best part is the nut and chocolate crumble on top. I found the large plate menu pretty limited and nothing really stuck out to me. It'd be great if they had a noodle option! read more

I've been craving MOFU for a year but never found the chance to go back until recently! Everything is still phenomenal - from the food, to the ambiance, to the service. My friend even said that she has never been disappointed by a dish here. We shared the 1) Kimchi Rice Balls with tofu, shallots, and egg and 2) Black Pepper Buns with pork char sui for snack plates, 3) the Smoked Pork Belly Bowl with a Thai Basil Raw Corn Salad + Steamed Rice + Coconut Sake Vinaigrette + Pickled Veggies + Poached Egg for a small plate, and finally 4) the Braised Short Rib with Kimchi Fried Rice + Peanut Dukkah Mix for a large plate. Oh my gosh all of the snack and small plates were incredible! We were especially surprised by the Black Pepper Buns. The rice that came with the Smoked Pork Belly Bowl was a bit bland, but a perfect pairing with the decadent, delicious smoked pork belly. I liked the Kimchi Rice Balls a lot but my friend mostly just liked the crunchy exterior of it. The Braised Short Rib with Kimchi Fried Rice was quite honestly the reason that I wanted to come back so badly, because it had been incredible the first time I had it! Unfortunately this time, the sauce was really salty. But the service that we experienced from management was incredible and that more than made up for it.
