Forever a classic for me! I haven't been here in a few years. The difficulty with this coffee shop is their hours. They close very early daily and I never get to go because I g get out of work sheet they close. They had a yoga class that I wanted to attend in a Sunday, so decided to drive from Austin to here for the first time. The yoga class was relaxing and I got a coffee after! This place is lowkey kind of hidden, especially when you are walking to this location. There is no obvious signage. The inside is beautiful, well decorated, lots of open space... with an art gallery next door. I got the garden matcha, a specialty drink, with oat milk. It's main notes are strawberry and sassafras. I would say it was easy to drink, and that I couldn't really taste the matcha flavour - but my friend could. Also I wished they used strawberry puree instead of what I assume is syrup. My friend got the midori sunrise which is lemon syrup with sparkling yuzu juice. and honestly its not even their fault but i think matcha never works in a lemonade form. or any form that correlates with that flavour profile. It tasted too watery, and my friend could not finish it. Honestly, its super cool how many milks and syrups they have for you to customize. I don't really know my syrups like that, so I can't say whether or not they are amazing... but everyone has different preferences. the people making the drinks were super nice & helpful - so I appreciate them for sure, but I would definently come check it out just for the cool art gallery + study space. read more

Cute hidden coffee shop! Lots of parking and indoor space for studying/socializing. The Wi-Fi/connection is spotty so I'm not sure if I'd WFH here. The barista was super friendly and quick with our drinks. They have a regular coffee menu but a very extensive syrup selection. I think if they did more speciality lattes they would do better than other cafes in deep ellum. I got a lavender oatmilk latte ($5.50) and they do charge for syrup but not for milk substitutions. My husband and three month old baby and I went here on a Thursday morning. We timed the line just right, so we didn't have to wait long. However, there was only one person working so if you were at the back of the line it could take a while to get your drinks. I got a turmeric latte with oat milk and it was delicious. My husband got a mocha because they Housemake their chocolate syrup. He said it was really delicious. There was plenty of seating both in the form of tables and couches. Essentially an art gallery joined with a coffee shop. What I really appreciate is... the abundant amount of seating you get here. There's tables, couches, lounge tables, long tables, bar stool. so much variety. The cafe isn't loud so its a perfect place to come get some work done. Not only is the place itself amazing but the coffee.....wowwwww I got a regular Capuccino and my sister got a Hazelnut Latte. I'm somenoe who loves dark beans and the capuccino was very rich and dark tasting. Even though I asked for it in a to-go cup the barista put a cute art work with the milk froth. The Hazelnut latte was so delicous and didn't taste like a typical one. Not sure if he has some special hazelnut syrup but it wasn't too sweet nor was it too bland. The area look a little sketchy and you don't expect to find a coffee shop around that block but I really appreciated the large parking space they had. Being in Deep Ellum parking can get frustrating to find. The artwork that was presented the day we went was super interesting. I forget who the artist was but it was super funky and fun to look at. The Chai Latte is a must try. It has been so long since I've had a well balanced cup of chai where it's not too sweet, too bland, or too overpowering. Perfection. This is my favorite coffee shop in the area. I pretty much would get a dirty chai every day before work. They use the Rishi chai mix and it's so spicy and flavorful. This was my first time at Mokah, and it was a great and pleasant coffeehouse/workarea experience! The inside is very spacious and had ample seating, but I sat outside and there were plenty of outlets for electronics. It was very tranquil and quite both inside and out, and I was able to get a lot of work done. Also, the barista was very friendly and helpful. I got a vanilla cappuccino and it was tastey and strong. I only wish they had caramel flavoring (I believe the other options were "less conventional" such as lavender) but other than that, it was great and I'll be back! read more

It took me forever to locate this shop. I'm glad I did not give up my search because as the saying goes....'good things come to those who wait'. Actually, I'm embarrassed to say I've jogged/walked right past it many times and without realizing it. Mokah is part of the 'Life In Deep Ellum' cultural center. While the cultural center takes up the most space (and is most visibile) Mokah does have its own entry from the outside. There is also access from the cultural center. I'm thrilled to have found this shop as there's nothing like a local coffee shop for chillaxin. They tend to have a calmer and more eccentric appeal to them. And Mokah is no different. The décor is unique in a cool and funky way. There lot's of seating area available. The seating ranges from the typical table/chairs to more big/comfy chairs. There is even a church pew type seat available. On most of my visits it has been very quiet which makes for a good spot to chill and catch up on reading or studying. As it says on their website, Mokah is passionate about two things: great coffee and people sharing what they love through music, art and conversation. And that passion comes through immediately upon entering the door. The barista's are super cool. On my first visit I had lots of questions and comments about the place and the staff took time to listen to me and answer my questions. As I'm primarily a coffee drinker, I cannot comment on their espressos, lattes, etc. I will say they brew a nice cup of java. The next time you're in Deep Ellum I highly recommend checking out Mokah Coffee Bar. Note, they are closed on Saturdays and only open until 1pm on Sundays. Last and not least, Mokah Coffee Bar is a non-profit coffee shop. So remember to tip your barista. read more

I recently discovered Mokah and have visited 3 times now; I've yet to be disappointed. The space has a vintage meets artsy feel to it (and is quite spacious); the baristas have been kind and made the drinks with attention to detail in little time (I highly recommend trying either a pumpkin spice cortado - I ordered mine decaf- or their chai with pumpkin spice syrup in it); and the space hasn't been overcrowded each time I've visited. It's the perfect spot to stop in for a quick pick-me-up coffee on the go, or to sit and savor your drink of choice with a book (or while doing work). read more

Ok, I am in love with Mokah Coffee Bar. First, there is free parking. Mokah and Life in Deep Ellum are located in the same building. So, as long as there is not an event going on at Life in Deep Ellum, Mokah customers can park right outside of the coffee bar. In Deep Ellum, free parking is almost unheard of! Second, the coffee is to die for. I ordered the white chocolate mocha. Being a huge Starbucks fan, and ordering this drink weekly from them, I was surprised to find that I liked Mokah's white mocha better! Who would have thought. Third, the barista working was super friendly and down to Earth. We started talking about life and she explained that she used to work at Starbucks and then started working here. She liked Mokah better because they roast their coffee beans in Texas and she likes the vibe here. When I took my coffee into the other room, forgetting to pay, she laughed when I realized (fifteen minutes later). She said, "I was just waiting until you were ready." You don't get service and sweetness like this anywhere else. Fourth, the décor is awesome. They have life music here and they have a variety of comfy couches and chairs to cozy up in. I would see myself drinking coffee (the white mocha, to be exact) all day and studying here. This is a win, win all around. I will be back for sure. More than likely, with friends. read more

What a supercool/hip/awesome place... and the espresso drinks are fantastic to boot! Wish they had a food menu, but they have a handful of pastries that so far are really good! I love the open seating plan with a combination of church pews, tall tables with padded chairs (padded chairs always win me over when I'm going to be sitting for a few hours), couches, and low round and square tables . So.... I had a 7am coffee date with a friend this past Friday and since my sister-in-love was in town she definitely came with AND we totally enjoyed ourselves! Here's the breakdown: Coffee 4 Food 4 Price 3 Decor 3 Barista 5 Ambience 5 I gave this place 5 stars based on the amazing ambience and the amazing barista. What we ordered: We all decided to get something different... my friend had the lavender vanilla latte with an almond croissant, my SnL got the Mokah latte with the coffee cake and I got the bonbon with a cinnamon roll cupcake. My total was $7.75, which is just okay price wise. Now for the deets... We arrived shortly after 7am and we were warmly greeted by the barista, who although alone was patient and kind enough for us to prod her brain with our drink questions. After completing our purchases we were given our pastries and we went looking for our seats. The place is actually quite large, with an art gallery on one side of the divided space and complete with an outdoor seating area. There are two large yellow couches placed in the center of the seating area and a hodgepodge of tables, chaise lounges a community table and chairs strategically scattered about. Truthfully, decor-wise there is much to be desired but I get it "coffee-shop-chic" is the look they were hoping to achieve I suppose. Nonetheless, we took our seats on the big yellow couches in the center of the room and waited for about 7 minutes for our drinks. I'd dare say there was nothing super special about my drink, it's literally espresso and condensed milk (just the way I like it) but the presentation was darling. The ambience was relaxing yet quietly bustling as working people popped in and out getting coffee and taking meetings without our conversation being interrupted. We sat and chatted for 2+ hours while finishing our drinks and pastries. As we prepared to leave, the barista obliged our request and took our photo and gave us Mokah cards that would give us a free cup after so many visits. She asked us how everything was and shared with us the vanilla and chocolate is made in house. We thanked her for her hospitality, said our goodbyes. I'd go back again and I'd probably order the same thing but with a dash of vanilla. read more

An industrial coffee shop that's part art gallery, performance venue, office space (For Life in Deep Ellum group) and well... Coffee house. And Mokah adds itself to the repertoire of one of Dallas' religious-based coffee houses too (alongside with Oak Lawn Coffee, Union Station, and some others). It's weird, the biggest door to this building is for the art gallery, but it's actually a pretty small art gallery - there's less than 10 art pieces to look at. At least the art pieces are of good quality. The smaller door is for the coffee house, which compared to the gallery space with less than 10 pieces of art, feels quite large. And even more so when you factor in the large, covered outdoor patio (and if sitting on bean bags are your thing - although I don't think drinking coffee while sitting on a bean bag is quite an easy or advisable thing to do). And the performance space? It's kept in the dark, with lights off, and it's actually a separate room (the back room). And on the events calendar, there's nothing planned in the proximate future as of today. So maybe it's "off-season," if such a thing exists in a non-tourist-driven city like Dallas? While there's plenty bit of Deep Ellum funk, I was worried that it's one of those cheap funk instead of the good funk. I'm leaning toward good funk even though there's those abhorred booth-style seating and low tattered sofas with no cushioning (you know what I'm talking about once you sit or "sink" into the seats). I don't understand why funky people think these are cool, but the eight people inside at the time I visited are smarter than that - as they're all sitting on the hardwood seating, even though the "cheap funk" furniture pieces take up half of the coffee house space. As for snacks and other bites, there's a really limited menu. Basically it's only a few handful of pastries that they get from Empire Bakery. But even then, they were not fresh (I had asked, and they admitted that the pastries are a day old). And at $3 a pop, a day old croissant does not sound appealing at all. They should offer these at half price at the very least. However, I can see how this place gets its love. It is a part of the nonprofit organization that works as a Deep Ellum booster group - so they're Deep Ellum proud (even though Tweed Coffee isn't roasted in Deep Ellum). The organization works in making this building a cultural center built for the artistic, social, and economic benefit of Deep Ellum. Here's the other pros: + Tweed coffee beans are actually pretty good, not so dark roasted + Outdoor seating + Free wi-fi + Decent study space + Limited smoothie menu, some loose leaf tea options, and chai + One chess table (but you may need to bring the pieces) + Plenty of free parking In the end, I do think this place can be much more - and maybe I came in the bad time. But at least the people are friendly here and space is not at a deficit. I could see why people would come back here if they're in the area since most other coffee shops in the close proximity to this one are 1) closed earlier or 2) space-constrained. read more

I'm hoping this was just an off day because I was really excited to try this spot but was pretty disappointed by my experience. I ordered a vanilla latte and it tasted honestly more like flavored steamed milk than an actual latte; I couldn't taste the espresso at all. You could chalk it up to the fact that I got it with whole milk (which theirs was really creamy by the way), but I always get it that way everywhere I go and I've definitely had other vanilla lattes where the flavor profile is much more balanced (the vanilla, espresso, and creaminess of the milk all come through without overpowering one another). I really liked the vibe of this place, and the fact that it opens into an art gallery is pretty neat too! I just wish the quality of the drinks lived up to what I expected, given the other ratings and reviews. read more

So glad I found this little hip coffee shop as it is tucked away in a small corner of Deep Ellum. The ambience here is very calm and quiet, the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee/tea while getting some work done. It can get a little loud in here due to the face that it is directly connected to an art gallery. Side note, got to try their Bombón which is different compared to how I usually take my espresso shot, the condense milk adds the slight sweetness that I like. What a hidden gem in the heart of Deep Ellum. A friend of mine recommended this place when I asked her if she knew any coffee shops that are fairly quiet. She was definitely spot on. Some days are probably more quiet than others, but it fits the criteria. Apparently, there's an art gallery connected to the coffee shop that I'll probably check out before I leave. It's a great place to read, study, find inspiration, catch up with a friend or just grab a cup of good ol' coffee. I ordered the hot mocha and really enjoyed it. It wasn't as hot as I hoped but I ordered it with almond milk instead. It was warm, but very creamy and not overly sweet. I would definitely order it again and maybe ask if they can make it hotter.
