YUMMY!! Seriously delicious! Living in Kailua and working elsewhere for the past decade, I have been deprived of all of the great breakfast spots... until today. I've eaten at Cinnamon's, and I like it there too, but I LOVE Moke's. The food. It is a step above Cinnamon's. I'm not knocking on Cinnamon's in any way, it's just things are more "homemade" here. The corned beef has chunks of corned beef brisket in it. Delicious and not overly packed with filler potato either. We also ordered and loved the rib eye Loco Moco. I am not normally a fan of Loco Moco because anyone can make it, but not like this. The brown gravy and quality of the rib eye can't be beat here. The steak was so tender and melt in your mouth. The gravy is definitely not packaged and is not salt laden also. Sooo good. The Lilikoi pancake is pure heaven too. It is a beautiful blend of Lilikoi, not fake flavoring and butter and cream. My friend wanted to try out Moke's because she heard about the "Rabbit Loco Moco." Ummm.... I wasn't down to eat Rabbit but I was down to try out their famous LILIKOI PANCAKES!! So on a whim, we decided to head over at 6:30AM from Kalihi. Location: Located on Ho'olai st. (Turn left if you're coming down Kailua Rd. from the Pali) It's going to be on your left, a light blue structure, RIGHT AFTER Casablanca Moroccan Cuisine.) Parking is limited, but at 6:30AM on a Saturday, I found street parking (all metered so bring your change) right in front of the restaurant. [[There is a Moke's in Tokyo, Japan--Near Nakameguro Station]] Seating: There's about 18-20 tables, including 5 tables outside. Ambiance: Relaxed atmosphere, clean, open-air. Country/Farmhouse feel. We were greeted and escorted immediately. The menu selection was vast, but simple. My friend was disappointed, however, because they no longer served the Rabbit Loco Moco due to the lack of farmers and the cost. She settled on the Ribeye Loco Moco, and I had the Mokapu Fresh Farm Omelet. Both dishes were pretty lackluster. The ribeye that came with the Loco Moco was a super thin cut, and somewhat grissly... The "BROWN" gravy was a light brown/borderline gray gravy that wasn't hot... Overall, my friend said her Loco Moco was MEH. My Omelete was okay. The eggs were overdone... Probably could've gone somewhere in town for an exceptional omelet. But whatevs. The BEST PART OF OUR EXPERIENCE: LILIKO'I PANCAKES!!!!! Got a shortstack cuz we thought we ordered too much food. Moke's is known for their lilikoi pancakes but they also have great muffin specials as well. On the day I went, we had a banana blueberry granola muffin special and it was perfectly crispy by moist. Yum! I recommend getting the early morning special for around $10 for a combination of pancakes, protein and eggs. So I am gonna be real. This place is just alright. I heard they opened a location in Japan and that kind of surprises me. We went on a Wednesday and had a 20 min wait. Not bad for Kailua. The host said he would just a pull up an extra chair to the table made for two so my 2 year old could join me and my husband. Nice consideration but a high chair was a better idea. Not his fault though. Ok. After a several moments and older waiter brought us some water and my husband got to order a coffee. After a few more moment he brought it out and then started taking the order of the table next to us....who were seated after us...after 5-7 more minutes he told us "sorry, your server will be with you in a few moments." Um ok. I guess you're not our server then. Few more moments and a younger server comes to our table and apologizes. Fine. Ordered my daughter the Mickey Mouse Pancakes. I got the Veggie Fritatta. Hubby got the Moke Nui Omelette...not certain what was in it. And we shared a short stack of the "famous" Lilikoi pancakes. Our server was pleasant and said she would bring out my daughters pancake as soon as it was pau bc she could tell she was fussy. Which she did and it did help. When she brought out our food it was a tight fit but my husband and I rearranged the set up to make it work. To be honest the food was "meh". The Mickey Mouse pancake was very plain. But I expected that for kids so it's fine. My husband said the omelette was just ok. Nothing special. My Veggie Fritatta came with a homemade baguette which was probably the better part of my dish. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. My Fritatta on the other hand... The egg was overcooked and it was really more of an omelette. I didn't really dig the crunchy carrots with the softer juicer squash and zucchini...and it really just didn't have any flavor. I would have much preferred the pesto Fritatta from Cinnamons. As for the Famous Lilikoi Pancakes...overrated. Lilikoi sauce was similar to a lemon curd over "nothing special" pancakes. The first few bites taste ok and then I had enough. Again the pancakes are better at Cinnamons. Overall the service is ok. But, I only got my water refilled once after it had already been empty about 10 min. I am pregnant so water is extra important right now. It was also empty for about 20 min before we left. One more thing. My friends and I tried the next best thing: their homemade corn beef hash and they were delicious! Very flavorful. My friend's dad also ordered the bread pudding which came with mac nut sauce since there wasn't any lilikoi sauce! :( It was still pretty good! I'll be coming back for that Lilikoi Sauce! We went quite a distance out of the way to visit this place for lunch/brunch... Well, it's a small island so not really that far out of the way. Needless to say we were not disappointed, the food and service were on par for sure! My other half and I shared a lilikoi pancake, OMG that was delicious. I loved the fact that the sauce was actually cold, which gave a nice refreshing effect on a hot sunny, well tropical, day! Highly recommend, it's not too sweet and the orange zest gives a nice balance to the flavors. The main event for my breakfast was their Mokapu omelette, which was great. Nice and fluffy and the sausage had really good, tasted fresh, kind of flavor. On the side I replaced the hash browns for a biscuit, which was also very nicely done The only thing I would complain about, which is in regards to the biscuit; on the side was a packet of smuckers strawberry and corn syrup jam. A place like this giving out bought jam? Well, that's just sad. It's easy to make and you could offer a local flavor: Guava, Pineapple, banana, or even a coconut cream? The gravy wasn't all thick and super starchy like at other places. The fried rice is a nice touch. I ate the whole thing! We also got the lilikoi pancakes which were much tastier than what we had at cinnamons. The pancakes themselves were a perfect consistency and had great flavor on its own. Nos that's a good sign. Went here yesterday for birthday brunch. This was my second time going to Moke's. The first time I went, it was for a later lunch, maybe an hour before closing. By then it wasn't too busy. We got seated right away and since I was with friends who had come back to visit, we thought we'd enjoy sitting outdoors. So we got seated outside under the awning. I forgot what I ordered, it was a sandwich, but I just remember it was good! The service was great too! I also ordered the the smoked tuna sandwich to bring home for the bf. He LOVED that sandwich! Yesterday we at brunch and went there at around 11am /11:15am. The restaurant was pretty full but there were only two other groups waiting before us, a group of 4-6 and a couple who had their Rottweiler mix dog and were waiting for an outdoor table (which at the time there were only two tables for two people each). We were greeted by the "hostess" right away and put our name down for two. We only had to wait maybe 10min (?) at most and we actually got seated before the couple with the dog but of course it's because they were waiting for an outdoor table because of their dog. We got seated by the window which kinda made t feel like a goldfish in a glass bowl because people waiting to be seated are sitting on the bench right on the other side of the window lol! And then it got kinda of hot sitting by the large window because it was almost noon and the window isn't tinted. But the fans inside helped cool it down. Next time I'll ask to sit a little further into the restaurant. We were quickly greeted by one server who explained she wasn't going to be out server but was temporarily helping our actual server out. That shows great teamwork and customer service. Having worked in the industry before this helps the actual server out instead of letting the customer wait forever and lets the customer know they aren't ignored/forgotten. This server took our drink orders (water and coffee) and brought it back right away. Not long after, we were greeted by our server. Both servers were friendly and smiled! Coffee was pretty good and did not have that acidic after taste like some coffees have after. I ordered a honey butter biscuit which the server asked if we wanted it grilled or regular. I asked for grilled. It was a decent sized biscuit with a nice crunch outside and nicely toasty grilled since it was cut in half. It came with a little butter and the smuckers grape jam. The biscuit was good with the butter and jam but I think it'd go great if there was guava or lilikoi jam/butter instead. This time we ordered the the Kualoa Moco made with locally raised beef and local fresh eggs. We opted for the fried rice. It was pretty good and is like your standard loco moco. The over easy eggs were perfectly done too with it's runny yolk. It was a huge serving of food! Also ordered the prime rib eye with over easy eggs (2 eggs) and friend rice. The menu has most of your standard breakfast items with some having variations (such as several different omelets and several different loco mocos) and other stuff like pancakes. They also had their lunch sandwiches available, served after 11am. I wanted something different so when I asked about the rib eye, the server said a lot of people order it and was good. I ordered it medium rare. It was slightly a little more done than I wanted but it was otherwise still soft, flavorful, and delicious. My over easy eggs were also very good all over my fried rice. Now for customer service, if I haven't mentioned enough already with the first two servers. The staff is excellent! Very friendly! Checks on you adequately. The hostess who was also helping out to serve tables had asked how we were doing eight out food. Our server came and checked up on us too. And even the guy server whom I assume might be the manager (?). All were very friendly and attentive. I would definitely go for breakfast or lunch again! Thankfully it wasn't too busy/crowded. The lilikoi "frosting" was slathered on thick and I enjoyed the presentation of the peeled lilikoi rind!! I can understand why presenting this famous dish with the frosting on the side would not give the same effect of excitement! The pancakes were served fresh and hot which was great! I think my one huge slice sent me into a sugar overload but that first bite was eye-opening and packed full of flavor!! --- All in all, I would come back to Moke's if I was in the area... I can't say I would drive from Waianae though. ;) The BF would have loved the shrimp special omelette aka scramble that I ordered... but for me, I will only eat scramble at one place... We went to Moke's Bread and Breakfast around 10:40 on a Sunday morning (3/25/18), and were told there would be a 20 to 30 minute wait. I drove around a few blocks prior to finding parking (there's only on-street parking, mostly metered in the area). After waiting ~32 minutes, we were seated in the far back corner of the restaurant, in a pale blue (baby blue) room, that was not too loud. Since they were very busy, we ordered as soon as the took our drink orders. The drink (orange juice) came right away, but the food took about 30 minutes. Our server was very busy, waiting quite a few tables at the same time. The orange juice tasted like Tropicana, and was not fresh-squeezed, but it was only $2.50. We came for the lilikoi pancakes, and for $10, were served a stack of 3. Both the pancakes, and the lilikoi topping were excellent, and IMHO, were worth coming for! We also had the corned beef hash, served with bread (four or five choices were available), hash browns, and eggs. I liked the corned beef hash; the hash browns could have been a little more crispy for my liking; the eggs were just scrambled eggs, and could have used some seasoning. Don't know what the hype is about except for the fact that there aren't too many places to eat in Kailua for breakfast! We were the first ones there at 630 am and apparently the staff didn't have a good night sleep. They came in w/ a little attitude and couldn't even get it together as to what was needed to dine in (COVID RESTRICTIONS). One person saw my families Covid card while the other person kept repeating himself saying we need to see the Covid card...I tried to be friendly and tell him that she already showed it to the lady, but he already had an attitude w/ me b/c he wouldn't even let me explain what the CLEAR app is (WHICH IS MORE PROOF THAN A PAPER COVID CARD)...The CLEAR APP has ALL your info (documents/days of vaccination etc. ) AND YOUR PICTURE SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE OR HAVE AN ID WHEN ENTERING A FACILITY (stadium/airplane/concerts etc.) By the time we were "cleared" to eat inside the guy at the front did the typical "geesh" when I walked by....all good by me...that's why I am writing this review =) AND THE KICKER..when you get to the table they hand you a menu..if you're so Covid compliant...shouldn't you be using paper menus you throw away and QR codes? Hmmm? Service was slow-even though the place was empty I had to get up to get my own straw after I asked the waitress for it 5 mins before and when she saw me w/ my own straw she did apologize but it was w/ a mouth full of food...sorry to disturb your breakfast....but I thought we were there to dine not you... We are visiting Hawaii during our Fall Break and read that Moke's was the place to go for breakfast. We are from KY so we were not prepared for the parking meters and had no change on us. The manager or owner (I'm guessing) gave us $2 in quarters to park our car. We parked our car and they had us at our table in no time. Very nice breakfast environment. They have a great menu with a bunch of variety. I though that the stuffed hashbrows are a great idea, however, in my Southwest Scramble, the hashbrowns were a little too crispy and not like a crispy layer with soft potato underneath, and there wasn't a lot of cheese. Also, its formed in a way where the hashbrown is essentially folded over the toppings. I also wish there was more cheese. They were, however flavorful and freshly made! I probably would order something else next time but I am still glad I tried it. The Lilikoi pancakes are honestly what makes this place shine. The sauce is literally perfect and the pancakes themselves are delicious and fluffy. Like every time I've come here so far I've gotten the pancakes. I will probably stick to my Sunrise special, but this place honestly has great food. With parking, make sure you don't park right across the street in the lot. They will tow apparently. There is still a decent amount of parking in the area but you might have to use a parking meter. Another thing, I think they were short staffed (not their fault) but there were a lot of empty tables when we got there but we still had to wait 10-15 minutes for a seat. The corned beef hash was okay. It wasn't the worst I've had, but I didn't think it was that good. However. The Lilikoi pancakes were amazing!! The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, and topped with the most amazing sauce/glaze. I would 100% order that again, maybe two or three plates of them, and forget about the other dishes. A true delight and a wonderful way to start off my birthday!! The pancakes are so fluffy & the lilikoi topping is a signature not to be missed!!! The Loco Mokè is also a leader of the Loco Moco pack with a juicy rib eye topped with two eggs & au jus gravy. So blessed to have a "gem" of a breakfast niche.!! Make sure to bring quarters, there is only metered parking on the street. We came at a good time and we were able to get seated for 2 right away. After we got seated, a couple tables in the same dining room were seated a bit after us. While waiting for our food, the 2 parties that sat & ordered after us, had gotten their food first. I was hungry so it added a bad taste about this place. Our food arrived; I got eggs, Portuguese sausage, and pancakes with lilikoi sauce which were very good. My bf ordered fried rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage and toast. His fried rice was not seasoned, I tried it and he hadn't noticed since he was eating it with the sausage. The restaurant is open so it does get pretty warm, especially if you're not sitting in the direction of air flow. The 2 stars I gave were for the lilikoi sauce and our server; Sean, he was great. As others have mentioned, their pancakes are delicious! I ordered the #1 special, which came with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, and an order of a meat of your choice. The pancakes with the passion fruit guava sauce were delicious! My boyfriend had 2 banana pancakes which he enjoyed as well, and were only $8, which was welcome compared to the typically expensive restaurant prices on the islands. There are a lot of breakfast spots around the beach area and we didn't try any others, but I'd definitely give this place a thumbs up! read more

OMG...the Lilikoi Pancakes were so delicious and the biscuit might have even been better. The service here is really excellent, and feels totally genuine and kind. The menu isn't huge, which is fine for breakfast. It is a small place, so there seemed to be a bit of a wait time for everyone arriving, but totally worth it! Note that they do not recommend parking in the lot across the street, but there it plenty of metered parking and even free parking around the block. read more

Really sweet breakfast spot in Kailua! The lilikoi pancakes are their specialty and are worth coming for. In my opinion, they were way better than Cinnamon's because the sauce was lighter! The pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet. The short stack has two medium sized pancakes and was perfect to share. I ordered the Olomana omelette with hash browns. It wasn't on the menu but I saw it on yelp and they said they could make it for me! It was pretty good but needed more cheese and mushrooms and less tomatoes in my opinion. The hash browns were yummy- crispy on the outside. Lilikoi pancakes were definitely the highlight of the meal! Excellent customer service throughout our meal. Our waiter was so kind and friendly but also efficient. I also really appreciated the fact that my leftovers were given in a compostable container. Yay for sustainability! You can tell this is both a local and tourist favorite and will only increase in popularity! read more

When you don't want to deal with the line at Cinnamons (which I never do) this is the perfect place to grab breakfast in Kailua. The staff was super friendly and the dining area is adorable. All the food was tasty and came out quick and hot. read more

Metered street parking. Coins only. Came early enough so no wait. Great service. Came for the lilikoi sauce which has the texture of yogurt. It was good w pancakes. The food just seems overpriced. Wonderful spot for brunch! I had the Loco Moké, which is just a loco moco with rib eye instead of a hamburger patty, and it was so filling and tasty. My only complaint is that it took quite a while for our food to come out, but our server did come by often to give us updates on our food. read more

The drive out to Kailua was well worth it for the Loco moco. They source their burger patty from Kualoa ranch (grass fed). The gravy was rich and flavorful- my husband had to ask for an extra serving. I got their sunrise special with Portuguese sausage (they initially brought me back but corrected it quickly), two pancakes, and Lilikoi sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes- they were fluffy, and buttery. Overall a good meal- make sure you put ample time in your meters if you're street parked. read more
