Me and my cousin went to Molly's last night (both have never been before) it was a Friday at 11pm it was pretty dead so we did as we normally do and got us a drink and started dancing the best we could to the shit music. Over a one hour period my cousin had 4 tasteless watered down drinks. My cousin who is a women of color was cut off with no explanation as I, a white women was told I could keep drinking. Neither of us were acting belligerent we were just dancing playing darts and singing to the songs we knew. I was so upset for my cousin that she had to be told no more with no reasoning while there were a group of white women doing the exact same thing we were down the bar from us who were ordering rounds upon rounds and the one girl was slumped on the bar stool but still being served. Went here a couple nights ago and witnessed something I still don't believe. The owner of the restaurant had a bouncer break a guys phone because he didn't pay the correct amount on the dinner bill! The bouncer shouted profanity and committed assault against the customer and broke his personal item. Please support a customer and don't ever go to this low class establishment. I was attacked by one of their bouncers. The one star pretty much speaks for itself. After being rushed out of the bar by the bouncers, I was charged a service fee less than 5 minutes after the bar closed. I asked one of the waitresses to close my tab from outside the gate, and moments later one of the bouncers decided he didn't like the fact that I was disputing the charge... He attacked me. Gross. I know that when Molly's moved to the new venue, it was promised that the new location would be better somehow. Thus far, the music gets so loud you can not talk. You would think they had a real dance floor, they don't. So people push around you dancing. Poor planning Molly's. The bouncers allow people who are so over drunk to stay in there and they get sick all over the bathroom. I have been there when this has happened on at least two different occasions. I get this a college bar, but when did college mean classless? There is no food, but the nice part is you can get food delivered. Overall, skip Molly's. Send them a message. They are not the only bar in town. Oh and their "bus" that never comes even when you have it pre-arranged...terrible. The drivers are rude. I actually used to bounce here. This place isn't bad just because of staff. It's mostly because of customers, who regularly get blackout drunk and stagger into everything, spilling their drinks and vomiting. They are bratty, drunken, and entitled college kids. But this is a college bar. What did you expect? The head bouncer (the cell phone breaking guy) is a jerk. I can attest to this. He's generally always angry. Not surprised he smashed the phone at all. Back then, I was also kind of a jerk so it is what it is. Nothing good happens here, just fights and sexual harassment. If that's what you like, have at it. Fatty's has better food and is more civilized. The owners are sort of corrupt and definitely play favorites with staff and customers. If I could go back in time and slap myself for working here, I would. Go somewhere and study. Learn an instrument. Save up money for travel. Go see a rock show in town. Ever since the overhaul, Molly's hasn't been too bad. It's not going to win any Bar of the Year awards, but it's a decent college bar with cheap drinks, and it's always relatively free of a.) Annoying hipsters, b.) Gang-bangers, and c.) Surly, drunk townies who reek of menthols and caked sweat. The bartenders are always pretty robotic and preoccupied with their own conversations, but I'm not coming here to unload my sorrows - if that's your thing, go to Stanley's. My tab is always well below $50, so no complaints on that end. If I had any complaints... 1.) The music. Jesus Christ, you have to scream to be heard after 8 PM. Even the staff seemed kind of annoyed by the blaring club music, since they had to continuall ask anyone riding the rails to repeat their orders multiple times. But the owner (and the dumpy wannabe club-rat chicks) want this to be a dance club really, really badly, so noisy music is kind of a mainstay. As long as you stay near the front of the bar (or hit the patio), it's a tolerable level. 2.) Watching drunk chicks grind and twerk is a pretty entertaining night for any group of single dudes (just don't try to get involved, because they're "There to dance, motha-fucka"). But the bartenders here don't understand how to cut a drunk lady off as well as any bartender in downtown Naperville, so - on any given night - you're probably gonna see someone puke. It's pretty standard for a college bar, but I've seen a barfy sorority chick in here on three of my last four visits. The fuck? It's not hard to tell Stumbling Smashley that she's cut off, is it? 3.) Thieves. If you're here on a crowded night, watch your shit. A buddy caught someone trying to gank his phone off the bar, and a girl lost her purse on another night. Again, pretty common in most bars, but it's something to watch out for. Especially if you're sitting at the bar and the rowdy dance crowd migrates in behind you. Best advice: Wallet. Front pocket. Otherwise, you could do worse (Fatty's) in DeKalb. It's a college town. If you're expecting a classy drinking experience, hit Tapalaluna. read more

Bar service on a busy night is easily 5 stars. Food service on a weeknight is easily 4-5 stars. The manager is clearly a douchebag, so he is easily 0 stars. I think 3 stars is appropriate. Molly's is a fun place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. There's sometimes a short line, but it's nothing to complain about. Waiting in line means you get to witness the people smoking outside being corralled and quarantined in a small space, so it's pretty funny. Compared to Rosy's, the bar staff is extremely attentive and fast--thank the lord. Nothing kills my buzz more than having to wave down someone, only to be denied, thus losing my buzz. On a separate occasion, my roommate and I decided to pay Molly's a visit on a weeknight for dinner because our other roommate was working (she doesn't work here anymore and you'll see why). I ordered the Molly's Sandwich (I think that was the name) and asked to add avocados. The sandwich was soooo good! Definitely worth a try. The avocados would've been a phenomenal addition, had they not been unripe and almost crunchy. My roommate ordered the nachos, she said they were okay. What happened between my roommate (the waitress) and the manager was pretty horrendous. She had just taken our orders and was going to put it in the system. The manager stopped her and asked if she had carded us. She said no, because we hadn't ordered any drinks. WHY DO YOU NEED TO CARD US IF WE DIDN'T ORDER ALCOHOL. She also said she knew us and knew we were over 21--which we are (which I understand isn't a legitimate reason not to card, but again, we didn't order alcohol). He replied by telling her to check our IDs and that she should not make him hate her more than he already does. WHAT KIND OF MANAGER SPEAKS TO AN EMPLOYEE LIKE THAT. The place was so dead, we heard the entire conversation. So inappropriate. She put our order in and came back to our table and checked our IDs, because she knew that was what her manager wanted. A minute after she checked our IDs, the manager came over (grumpily, no smile, didn't even ask how we were doing) and told us he had to check our IDs. Wow. Really. I just loathe this guy. Way to undermine your employees and degrade them in front of coworkers and customers. The manager is completely unprofessional and disgusting. read more

Molly's is the typical college bar. It is a time between Molly's and Fatty's for a Friday or Saturday night out. I feel that most people choose Molly's because it has more of a dance scene. The bar service is usually pretty good, if you get there early enough at around 10 you can easily find seats at the bar, but it starts to get crowded at around 11:30. The live DJ on the weekends is great and a lot of the reason I enjoy going to Molly's. You can play pool or pay $1 and have the air hockey table until someone reaches 7 points, then it shuts off, so in my opinion that is a pretty long game for just a buck! Beware of ordering from the waitresses who walk around taking drinks, because if you have a tab open with them and it starts to get crowded you can ONLY order your drinks from them, and finding them in the crowded bar is absolutely impossible. Other than that, most of the bartenders make the drinks very well; you can actually taste the liquor and they aren't ridiculously watered down like other college bars. read more

I debated on going here last night and based on the reviews decided to pass. Tonight I decided to give it a shot. Wow... WHAT A MISTAKE! It took nearly 45 minutes to get my appetizer. That was followed within 2 minutes by an incorrect order! I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and got a chicken Parmesan sandwich. Worst sevice in all of DeKalb! Unless you're a college guy, don't expect to get any service, even if you're the only one in there. I've been several times and the "waitresses" ignore us. My husband got hassled by the bouncer on his birthday because he has a Missouri Liscence, they thought it was fake and made him sign his name 3 times to compare, and threatened to keep the liscence. That's not legal. And he was 27, not some 19 year old trying to get in. And ifyou complain to anyone there about it, they couldn't care less. I hate this bar. read more

I dont drink often and wasnt even buzzed after my 4th drink WTF. Ordered some nachos and the chips were stale and the toppings tasted like they sat in a warm car all day. I always enjoyed going to this bar with my buddies back in college. The atmosphere is really nice because you can get rowdy in one room or chill in another. During my stay at NIU they would also host the UFC fights for free. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Definitely my pick for best bar in Dekalb. Not like there is much to choose from. read more

This is also one of the staples in the DeKalb nightlife scene. This is a fun place but you want to avoid this place on event days such as football games or Homecoming weekends. I dislike the elbow to elbow crowds and this place goes way beyond crowded. We made the mistake of going thee on a Homecoming weekend night and it took me 30 minutes to get from my seat on the outdoor patio to the bar, get a drink and get back to my seat! this pace is not as bad when there is not an event going on in town. So my friends and I got kicked out of Molly's eatery last night because we didn't buy a drink within 30 mins of being there. The security guy who approached us was very aggressive and told us we were loitering because we came to "just hang out". Even though the bar has a live DJ who promotes everyone to dance. When we walked in we were asked if we wanted a drink less than a minute of sitting down. (Which we denied because we didn't even have our coats off). Since we went to have fun and dance we weren't looking for drinks at the moment. This security guy approached us as if we were criminals actively trying to hurt their establishment. It was awful, and despite the large amount of complaints and negative reviews on all their social media, my friends and I had been going there for years without any problems. Not only have I shared this terrible experience with everyone on Facebook but others who are known in this DeKalb community who frequent this establishment. You should never treat your customers with such hostility if you'd like them to come back or put money into your company. It's always about the approach, and the gentlemen last night was hostile and aggressive. If I could give them a Zero I would. read more

My girlfriend and I were designated drivers for our friends, so we ordered soda (which were three dollars each). We were standing at a table, and one of the bouncers (about 5'7", dark hair, and had his ears pierced) came up to my girlfriend and accused her of spiking her drink. She was just standing with me and did not even have her hands in her pockets. After she pulled out her pockets to prove that she wasn't spiking her drink, he still did not believe her. How can someone accuse someone without proof? We immediately left, tried calling the manager on duty, but was sent to voicemails. We called twice, left messages, and still haven't heard back. This place is rough. There are plenty of bartenders so its easy to get a drink but its like theyre robots. No emotions, no words, no nothing. 2 of 3 times I have been here and opened up a tab, when I close it out at the end of the night it has additional charges that were not mine. Which is fraud. When I confronted the bartender that there were drinks on my tab that I had not ordered, she said she couldn't do anything about it because she hadn't given me my drinks (which I had come up a total of 3 times to order and two of them were her, the initial order was from the other bartender).
