I'm sorry -- I really tried to like this place. I was genuinely excited to find what I hoped would be a good sandwich deli. But the fact that the place was completely empty at 6 p.m. probably should've been my first clue. The young lady taking my order suggested the nachos instead of a regular bag of chips since they came with cheese. Sounded great at first... but in the three short minutes it took me to drive one block back to my hotel, the cheese had already solidified, and all the chips underneath had gone soggy. They even tasted like they might've been stale to begin with. Since the cheese had hardened, they were inedible. I also ordered the French Dip sandwich. It came panini-style -- flattened and toasted -- and looked really appetizing at first glance. Unfortunately, the roast beef was cut in thick slabs but layered so thinly that there just wasn't much meat at all. The texture and balance were way off, and it just wasn't enjoyable to eat. One quarter of the bread had no meat at all. I truly wanted to like Momma Goldberg's, but this was not a good experience, and I won't be returning. read more

Driving through Auburn on a road trip and decided to take a shot at what seemed like a local hot spot. Great decision! My fiancé and I both got Momma's Love 'All The Way' toasted. We really enjoyed the sandwiches. Way better than a lot of other sub chains so I can see why the Auburn students love it! There were two young students/grads who gave very good service and pleasant conversation. Overall the space was clean and tidy. Next road trip through this area, we'll be back! read more

If you have ever lived in Auburn you know Momma G's is a staple. Now has 4 locations in Auburn & has spread across several states. They're known for their steamed sandwiches & Doritos covered in cheese. Their beverages are served w/good ice & in a plastic cup you can keep. Their sandwiches are a little sloppy but that's what people like. I would just say in regards to this, the lettuce can be mushy sometimes; as they are supposed to add the lettuce after steaming. You order at the counter & they call your name. Some locations have a drive-thru. The customer service isn't the greatest but it's mainly college kids working. If you take your Auburn football ticket in: buy 1 sandwich & a large drink, get 1 free. All & all, pretty good food. read more

I'm overall disappointed , they couldn't figure out how to charge my card, I waited over 10 minutes for my food, but I was like "it's okay, momma goldbergs is worth the wait" ... well it wasn't . I think I had the upmost ugliest and disappointingly untasty sandwich I have ever had. Once I got my food the cashier chick shut the drive through door on me with out getting my drink. Upon our arrival, there was no staff in sight to greet us - we wondered if this place was even open. After 15 minutes of waiting, one staff member finally appeared from the bathroom offering no apology for our wait. The second staff member did not appear until it was time to create our sandwiches although we could hear him in the back as we waited. After more time of waiting, and watching the family of 4 behind us receive their sandwiches before the 2 of us, we finally received our food. I just moved here for school and decided to try the famous Momma Goldberg's. It didn't quite meet my expectations, but it was pretty good for the price. We ordered the momma's love and big momma. The momma's love contained roast beef, turkey, and ham, while the big momma had pastrami, turkey, and ham. They were both good sandwiches; however, we wish the hoagie rolls were toasted. This is my 2nd visit to the Auburn campus for work and I was already looking forward to visiting Momma Goldbergs again on the drive there. When my coworkers and I saw this new location, we decided to check it out. The space is much larger, the building is newer and cleaner (as expected), and the whole place looked/felt like it got a "chain restaurant" makeover. Whether that's a good thing or bad would be up to you. We ordered 2 Mama's Love ($5 each), 1 Beef & Cheese ($5), and of course Mama's Nachos with jalapenos. Everything was deeelish as usual, especially the soft, slightly chewy, steamed sandwich bun. I would also recommend eating the nachos first because once it starts cooling down and the cheese solidifies, it basically becomes one giant nacho chip (which is fine if you don't plan on sharing anyway). Be prepared to take a nap after a visit to Mama G's. read more

I really wanted to like this more. We stopped in Auburn for the night when headed to Florida. We saw Mama Goldbergs and it looked interesting. On our way back through town we stopped for lunch. It was just ok. I'm thinking this is the type of place you love because a) you've been going there forever and associate the food with good times and good memories or b) you find a menu item you really like and you stick with it. Kids and hubby all ordered sandwiches. They were all ok. Nothing special at all. Honestly, steamed sandwiches are great when you immediately open the foil, but in a few short minutes the bread starts to get pretty soggy and pruney. The highlight of the trip was my salad -as I imagine any salad there would be. The ability to pick your own toppings, dressing and have it tossed for you is awesome. If I lived near here I can see visits to Mama Goldbergs just for salads (see b above). Overall the visit was pricey. Roughly $30 for lunch with two adults and two kids meals. Kids meals do not include drinks, so they just had water. read more

Nothing against any other Momma G's locations, just this one. If you're in Auburn and want Mamma G's you can't go wrong with the original or the Thatch Ave locations. However, whoever is managing this one really needs to replace some employees. I went for lunch there twice in the same week and had the exact same issues both times. The employees were incredibly slow, and they gave me the most pathetic excuse of a sandwich both times I was there. I work on South College, and if this place were better it could be a regular lunch restaurant for me, but after multiple visits with the same horrible problems, I refuse to go there any more. read more

I've tried it multiple times because I wanted to give it another chance but the customer service is awful, the sweet tea tastes so bad it almost has a moldy taste (I've tried it twice and both times it was horrible), and the sandwiches aren't even good. There are a lot of options when it come to subs. Momma Goldbergs Deli should be near the top of your list. The option to build your own is a unique and welcome feature. I had Momma's Love "all the way" and my only complaint is that it was a little soggy and hard to handle. The amount of meat and the flavor were both above average. The reuben was very tasty. They also offer a build your own salad which looks terrific.....loads of ingredients and it's huge. Parking and seating are a little limited, but they seem to keep things moving pretty well. read more

I went to this restaurant shortly before they closed (approximately an hour) and I ordered some nachos through their driveway service. When I got home to eat the nachos, I got about halfway through them before I realized there was a long, stringy, blonde strand of hair in my food hanging from my mouth. Immediately spit everything out and threw my food away. I was appalled and disgusted! I have been to momma g locations in Montgomery, Birmingham, and every Auburn location and this is by far the worst one. My order here is consistently wrong, the tea is always sour, and the wait time is significantly longer. Tonight I went and ordered a salad in the drive thru and got home to a container of lettuce and tomato- literally every topping I ordered was missing. The workers were busy cleaning the floors and doing what appeared to be closing duties which confused me considering they had 3ish hours left before closing time. I have loved their steamed hoagies since I was a student at Auburn 30 years ago. It takes about 5 minutes to assemble and steam your sandwich, though, so don't expect that the food will magically appear before you pay.
