Ordered "To Go" order and the scheduling application stated it would be ready @ 9;10 am. I arrived @ 9:25 am to see a line out the door. I made my way to the pickup area and ask about the status of my order since it was already 15 minutes past the scheduled completion/pickup time. Everyone was working but why couldn't I get a text update or something to tell me it would not be ready for another 40 minutes!!!! I care about quality as much as I do service and the service was not here. I paid a premium price for breakfast and I was sorely disappointed with this experience. This is my first visit, and last visit! Update: the food was really great! I would recommend it. But if ordering to go check and see what the actual delivery time is going to be. This place has a confusing service model that feels like it's trying to reinvent the wheel for no real benefit. You're given a table number and asked to seat yourself, then expected to return to the counter to order after reviewing the menu at your table. It's an odd hybrid of counter service and sit-down dining that manages to take the convenience out of both. Unfortunately, the food doesn't justify the extra friction. The grits come pre-seasoned with an herby blend, which removes any real choice from the diner and didn't improve the dish. Plain grits with optional seasoning would have been a much better approach. The pancakes were mediocre at best, and overall the food quality felt low for the price and setting. With an unnecessarily complicated ordering process and underwhelming execution, the experience comes across as more gimmick than substance. read more

Some good food options but most of their main menu items are mediocre and expensive-- including the titular pancakes which are of similar quality to IHOP. The line is often out the door but I've always been able to be seated within thirty minutes despite that. Oh man, how I really wanted to love this place! It is bright, cheery and clean when you walk in and the hostess was amazing. But that's about where the goodness stops. The food is just bad. The other yelp reviews said the same thing and I thought I might be different but sure enough it was absolutely horrible. The pancakes were dry and hard. My biscuits and gravy were cold and my husband got a croissant sandwich which had plenty of goodness potential but was just bland and he didn't even finish it. Management is completely indifferent to the quality of their restaurant. I've been 3 times; the first two times underperformed Waffle House, and the third I was served RANCID hash-browns cooked in black oil. You're given a table #, forced to wait in like to order at a counter (even if you have a revelation), then you sit down at table & someone then also waits on you? None of it makes sense. Alrighty! This is a hard one!!! lol I wanted this to be a great review. I should have paid attention to Yelp reviews instead of google's. Lol The atmosphere is great! Bright, pretty and fun, energetic! The staff were all nice and helpful. Everything moved quickly and food was out fast, like as fast as my coffee (honey vanilla latte) which was delightful!!!! Soooooo yummy! I ordered the Pancake stuffed beignets and added on 2 eggs over medium. My hubby had the breakfast croissant sandwich with chicken sausage, hash-browns and added a single banana pudding pancake. He had sweet tea which was the best we have tasted in quite some time. My exact reaction was, "oh! It tastes clean!" I don't like when the tea urn isn't clean and makes the tea taste off! This was fabulous!!! For the negatives, unfortunately it's the food. My eggs weren't over medium, as I had runny whites. I do not like runny whites at all and usually I can't eat the eggs. I did eat them. It wasn't too much, but still disappointing. I'll continue my search for the perfect over-medium eggs. lol The pancake beignets weren't stuffed at all! They had a tiny amount of cream coming out the top of them but hardly enough to taste. I kept searching the insides of them to find the goodness. It wasn't there, sadly and they were a little overcooked. Very dense and dry, unlike real beignets. I get it, they are pancakes, but still! My hubby thought I somehow ordered hush puppies lol. The glaze was good! The hubs food: the sandwich was good but it was brought out so fast that the cheese was not melted at all. The hash browns were warmed not cooked, and the chicken sausage.........was NOT breakfast chicken sausage. It's more like your brat type chicken sausage. They should really cut it in half and grill both sides, rather than throwing 2 huge, long, round chunks in the sandwich. Lol The croissant and very small amount of eggs were good tho. The chicken sausage tried to steal the show, but unfortunately it failed and wasn't even eaten. It felt like their concern was getting the food out fast, rather than it being cooked and hot. His banana pudding pancake was good. He liked it and said it tasted just like banana pudding. The banana pudding cream was actually too sweet for me and had a fake banana flavor, but I didn't eat it, just tasted. Anyway, we won't go back. Definitely wasn't worth the $40+ we paid. read more

Don't go to this restaurant if you have food allergies. Most unaccommodating restaurant we have ever been to. They serve peanut butter pancakes and said they are cooked on same surface as eggs and everything else. They don't take allergies seriously yet serve gluten free pancakes. Owner was rude. read more

The shrimp bechamel (spinach, mushrooms, scallions, Gouda cheese) omelette was large and flavorful. Seems like it was served with a Hollandaise sauce. The smoked Gouda grits were a perfect complement. We were disappointed that the batter for strawberry shortcake pancakes was not available at 7:45 am on a Thursday. Buttermilk pancakes with strawberry compote didn't quite meet those expectations. Placed our order at the counter. Nonetheless, table service was reasonably attentive. I went there when it opened a few years ago and never returned. My girlfriend and I love going to breakfast places, and would have loved to have a good one downtown, but this place was truly awful. I ordered pancakes (what the restaurant was named after), and the plain pancakes were extremely expensive, despite being one of the cheapest items for restaurants to prepare. The coffee was also quite overpriced, which just felt like taking advantage of the venue (everyone wants a cup of coffee with breakfast). I am willing to pay a high price for premium food, however, so I was extremely disappointed when the pancakes came with fake butter (whipped spread) and fake maple syrup. I can let this slide at waffle house, but at a premium priced breakfast spot that specializes in pancakes, this was ridiculous - half of the joy of eating good pancakes is the delicious flavor of warm maple syrup: This was substituted with the cloying sweetness and bizarre artificial maple mockery of "syrup". The coffee was also quite bad - despite the high price it tasted like standard folgers coffee that you would find for free in any office building. As for the pancakes, they were utterly bland and flavorless - clearly they use the cheapest possible ingredients to make these lifeless balls of dough - I guess most people are expected to order some sort of novelty pancake covered in candy to mask the poor quality. As I halfheartedly stabbed at my disappointing pancakes, I saw some other nonplussed customers across from me fiddling with a barely-eaten croissant sandwich. This sandwich looked truly vile - the sort of sandwich that you might see lying on platters in the dozens or hundreds at a cheaply catered conference, or the nursing home-sponsored funeral of an unloved man. They got up without looking at me, as if ashamed of the food they had ordered, and walked to the exit without looking back. I tried my best to finish my pancakes, but their gummy, doughy texture and the oppressive presence of the croissant sandwich that was left behind so depressed and disappetized me that I eventually succumbed to the malaise that had overtaken my unfortunate neighbors and left. I have never been tempted to go back, but each time I drive past, I hopefully look over to see if it has closed yet. I generally do not look at it directly, for when i do I am filled with an inexplicable sadness, which I do not want to examine more closely. For now I will go on hoping that it will eventually be gone and with its leaving begin to heal some of the wounds of the time I suffered there. read more

I have been here once before and my experience was great, but I guess they were just pitying me because my brother was in a wheelchair. This time around, I had the complete opposite experience. First of all, we had to wait outside in the burning heat because of how terrible of an ordering system they have here. We arrived in line at 10:15am and did not sit down until 10:57am. They only have plastic little tiny water cups that wouldn't even be enough for my cat. The only nice thing that happened here was that our food initially came out very fast. As soon as my plate hit the table, I asked our server for some extra butter. I enjoy my pancakes sweet and salty. 10 minutes go by, no butter to be seen. At this point my pancakes were cold and dry enough to pick up and slap someone with. I also ordered eggs with cheese, the cheese never melted... maybe it's because the eggs were lukewarm to begin with. My friend got cinnamon roll pancakes, but if you had a blindfold on you would've thought they were cornbread. No cinnamon or no brown sugar taste in the slightest. Now, about 20 minutes have gone by. I ask a different woman for more butter, but she never brought it. So I got myself up and went to the counter to ask for some more, they said they would bring it out. 7 more minutes passed before the first guy comes back out with my butter saying "so sorry about that" while giggling under his breath. The butter was COLD!! Let me just put freezing cold butter all over my freezing cold pancakes. Overall I had a horrible time. I am really upset because I was hyping it up to my friend and now i'm embarrassed that I ever thought highly of this place. read more

The menu has so many breakfast options with their signature pancakes being the highlight. Interestingly, everyone around me were ordering the protein stacks. Staks is super cute! They just opened on May 30th. When you go in they will assign you a number which you take to the counter to order and pay. Once you order you find your table based on the aforementioned number. Everyone was super personable and had lots of energy. I had the lemon blueberry pancakes with lemon glaze and I am already craving it again. Thinking we will go back tomorrow before heading out of town. The restaurant was clean and well maintained, however the the menu is unclear. I asked for just one speciality French toast and I repeated just one to make sure they understand and they charged me for the whole platter. When they brought out the platter I apologized for the misunderstanding and explained I wanted just one. I'm pretty sure the menu said specialty French toast was 6 dollars, but maybe I was wrong. Met a friend during rush week and was very eager to try. Got the French toast sticks and an orange juice. Service at counter was excellence and lady kind. But... when I got my meal French toast sticks were slightly oily. I ate regardless. Getting home, I immediately threw up my French toast sticks everywhere. I had no prior meal to this meal and was throughly hydrated. I blame Stacks. This act permanently ruined my relationship with my suite-mates as I threw up all over their bathroom on only the day after moving in. Can't even look at stacks anymore without getting PTSD. We were excited to try Staks Pancake Kitchen and were happy to get seated immediately upon arrival. Unfortunately, the food was just not good. My eggs, hash browns, and bacon arrived cold. After sending them back, I received warmer food but the hash browns had a rubbery texture that makes me think they might have just thrown it in the microwave. The other food at the table also fell short - two other egg breakfasts were ordered with the same issue, the pancakes were so dry they were basically inedible, and coffee tasted burnt. I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt that perhaps it was an off day but looking at many similar comments on Yelp has me confident this might be the norm. Way overpriced for what you get, but even if not overpriced it still wouldn't be worth your time or money. read more
