I was pretty disappointed in my nachos. I love nachos but these had nothing on them. They use Doritos as the chips and then pepper jack cheese which I thought would be fun, but no other standard nacho toppings. (I got without jalapeño). I will say service was great, the cashier was super nice and friendly. Overall their menu was very limited. They did make basic grilled cheese for my toddler, so I did really appreciate that. Just know what you're getting into here and you won't be disappointed as a lot of the reviews are. This is an old-school sandwich shop of the type that you'll find in any college town. Is the food fantastic? No, it's serviceable for any college student on a budget. I got a decent French dip, chips and a beer for $17. That's pretty good if you ask me. Don't go in here looking for something more and you won't be disappointed. Same goes for the service. Attentive, but not there to be best friends with you. That's ok though as I am not paying $200 for a meal. I had three people welcome me and the person taking my order was nice. What more could I want? Ambiance? Wow...people are going way for left or way far right...probably depending on how long you have to wait for your order. We ordered on their kiosk at 6:18, going to a game at 7 at the arena down the street. Just needed the food in 10-15 minutes, and we would be good. At 6:45 we asked for an update; found out they hadn't even started it because the kiosk order didn't get passed to the people making food. The lady said they'd make it right away. The tall young man in the back wearing sunglasses and a hoodie laughed and started making the salad. Acted like he knew what he was doing, then messed it up and had to restart. Laughing the whole time. Meantime, we are out of time and had to go. This would have been one-star, but they did refund our ticket so I added a star. However, the Cuban sandwich was super dry. The nachos were ok, basically Doritos with mozzarella cheese and canned sliced jalapeños on top. On the edge of campus, it's outdoor deck is a good spot for dining with my pup. The restaurant is always crowded, and there is always a wait to place your order. I recommend the Momma Love (roast beef, ham, turkey, and cheese on a seeded bun). It is dressed with lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, and momma's sauce. I think everything works well, although I'm not a huge fan of the steamed bun. The Momma's nachos are Doritos topped with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. It is placed in a toaster oven to melt the cheese. A novel idea that is unique. It reminds me of the time I mixed salsa and ranch dressing. It sounded odd at first, but worked out great. read more

Wait a minute, wait a minute... I have not written a review for the OG Momma G's? This is arguably the most iconic college town joint for Auburn (that is still open - with exception of Toomer's of course). I grew up coming here, coming in college and still crave those steamed sandwiches and delicious nachos every time I'm in town. I don't feel as strongly about the vast amount of other locations that have popped up more recently. Perhaps it is the nostalgia. But something about this location just tastes better. I remember standing in the lines out the door after an Auburn victory. They would have up to four lines going to take orders. But only so many steamers to make sandwiches. So it was usually a waiting game. But an afternoon get-together with friends here were also some memories I will cherish. Our last trip to Auburn, we decided not to come here. But my memories here are enough for 5 stars. The nacho's are essential Doritos with melted pepper jack cheese and I add jalapenos. The Big Momma is my go to. Couldn't even remember what's on it (and too lazy to look it up). But it is good. Real good. Get that with a cheap beer (back in the day it was the Momma's brew) and you can't go wrong. read more

AVOID even if starving!! This was an all around horrible experience!! The non passionate staff, the long wait for food, and even the food was subpar. We walked to the restaurant bc it was convenient and we wanted to support local... Upon arrival we were third in line...however we watched as several orders were called before ours. A true Auburn staple, the original Mama Goldberg's is a must for at least a visit if you are in the area. The sandwich options range from good to great (the Bambino being a personal favorite) and their nachos are also a standout. The atmosphere, with walls filled with "autographs" of Auburn students past and present and the SEC network running 24/7 makes what is a pretty good lunch spot great. Totally not what I was thinking of when thinking of a deli. We stopped for a sit down lunch while traveling from FL to SC. I ordered the French Dip sandwich. When delivered it had very little roast beef. I combined both halves of my sandwich to make a halfway decent sized 1/2 of a sandwich. Ironically enough the booth I sat at had a photo of the French Dip above me. It was twice the size of a sandwich I received. My coworker ordered the pastrami sandwich and was equally disappointed. His sandwich had more meat than mine but the meat was average at best. I do not recommend stopping here for the food. Service was great, just very disappointing. read more

Anyone that is from Auburn knows about Momma Goldbergs. Even visitors to Auburn soon find out the tradition that Momma's original location just off campus on Magnolia Ave holds. I am the latter and visited the city for a week and was told Momma's was a must try as an AU haunt. These type of college places are always a must try for me as I immerse myself in school culture, even if for a few days. I rolled into Momma's early on a weekday mid afternoon. It was close to totally dead with a few inside and a few outside on the patio. I really liked the proximity of the restaurant to campus as you can literally see the AU football stadium. I liked the cottage feel of the cedar shake shingles and was ready to give them a try. I entered and found wood floors, a fireplace with flat screen TV over it. Wood tables and chairs with wood pews filled the dining room. The order area is to left as you enter, everything is walk up with menu on a board above. A small bar and tap beer selection is to the left of the counter. I had no idea what to do when entering and how the process worked and had to ask someone behind the counter. I also asked about beer prices and was flat out told pitcher tap was the way to go. At $5.99 for a pitcher of Blue Moon I could not resist, but wait a minute I'm by myself... oh what the heck I will plan on hanging out here long enough to hand it off to a new friend. I ordered the Momma's Love sandwich at the recommendation of the staffers for a first timer. It sounded good to me with three kinds of meat. I found a seat and they called me to the counter for the pitcher which to me was just plain poor customer service with almost no one in the place... seriously they could not bring it to me. This was foretelling of how lax the staff was in my opinion. I understand this is there normal protocol, I get it... so no one should give me a hard time over my opinion. The sandwich order was up and again back up to the counter to retrieve it when no one was in the joint but a few others. The sandwich was hot and tasted great, I really liked it. I knew what to expect from my Blue Moon and it also tasted really good and refreshing on a hot Alabama day. I told the young guys beside me that they could have half of the pitcher, but they were already working on one and declined. With the place so empty I was pretty darn shocked that not only could the staff not lift a finger to bring out a pitcher of beer, but they could not tidy up the dining room which had a half dozen tables that needed cleared and floors swept. Now we are talking not just cleaning the tables, they have trash on them piled up. I was in for the long haul with this pitcher and was there probably 45 minutes before a staffer came out and cleared one table and then left for no reason that I'm aware of, again no customers have come in. This would continue for the next hour and a half back and forth one table at a time. Sweep a little, clear a little and leave. The whole dining room could have been done in 10-15 min tops if she just stuck with it. So my first visit to Mamma Goldbergs ended 2 hours after it started with beer still in the pitcher. I gave it a good effort but could not conquer it. I felt like a total failure, ha! I really cannot recall the last time I had a pitcher of beer. I went back for another visit in the week around the same time and pretty much the same scenario played out. I am around a 2.5 and will round up. Not a place that I would frequent if living in Auburn, but gave it a few tries in an attempt to feel the tradition that this place holds. I was not impressed and assume the attraction is cheap pitchers of beer and pretty solid food. But if you ask me the service pretty much stinks! read more

I've always loved Momma G's, but never actually been able to go to the original location in Auburn. I finally can say that I've been, and it was awesome. The service was quick and efficient, and the atmosphere is super cool with many different decor items on the wall. There is even a separate bar area both inside and outside where you can sit and get good draft beer. Among my favorites are the Momma's Love , Big Momma, and the Bambino. Another thing....always get the nachos with peppers. Always. Never disappoints. I'll always support this establishment. read more

I know people LOVE Momma G's, especially the original location in Auburn. I've eaten here several times, and the last time was just this past weekend, when I ate the Momma Love sandwich. Sure, it was good, but it wasn't GREAT. I think the sesame hoagie was too soft for me. I think it would have been a lot better toasted. The line moved quickly and the service was fine. It seems redundant to have to say your order twice - once for them to make your order, and the second time for them to ring it up...all within a feet or so of each "station". Oh well, I guess this method has worked for them for years, and it's a tradition. The next time I eat here, I'll have to look for a sandwich that's toasted or ask them to toast mine. read more

I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I first walked in and there wasn't a Momms's Love sandwich on the menu. Seriously, I re-read the menu several times just to make sure I wasn't overlooking it. But I was right and it seems the franchise has done a much needed, in my opinion, menu overhaul. Now instead of just steamed sandwiches which can be quite off-putting if you aren't into that texture, they offer " Signature Sandwiches", wraps, nachos, and salads. I really liked the items we had as well. I got a cheese sandwich, which is off the old menu but the manager knew what I was talking about so he whipped it right up for me (much appreciated!) My husband had the "Pastrama Mama" which was really tasty and a happy change from the steamed sandwiches that hes not a big fan of. We both shared a nacho with jalapeno with I most definitely suggest you trying if you come here. They are my favorite thing on the menu. read more

My Reuben was soggy and the rye bread was not even toasted. Amount of meat on sandwich was very light and overall not good.

If I could give negative stars for this location I would! My boyfriend ordered us both a sandwich from here and not only did they get the order wrong they had a fly on the sandwich! I asked for turkey meat on the side because online it wouldn't allow to choose two cheeses so we chose one and asked for the meat on the side since I do not eat meat. Great place to grab a sandwich and some beer. They have beer in bottles as well as on tap. Love the outdoor seating area. Place is within walking distance to Jordan-Hare Stadium. In fact you can see the stadium from the restaurant. Their sandwiches are really good (recommend Momma's Love). Don't waste your money at a large sandwich chain when you can get better quality here.
