Darling little shop right on hwy 116 with plenty of parking. We drove over for a pie to serve our dinner guests. They had a nice selection on this Sunday afternoon. Everything looked fresh and delicious. I had walked in ready to order the chocolate cream pie but the kind lady working that day showed us the list of pies with their sweetness levels and the chocolate was one of the sweeter ones. Hubby doesn't like his pies too sweet so we went back to the drawing board and decided to order one of their fruit pies. Triple berry it is! Wow, wonderful pie, incredible crust, not too sweet and filled with lots and lots of fruit. It was the perfect pie for our family. They sell two sizes of pies but you will be sorry if you don't get the bigger one since they are so delicious. Their highly praised apple is also excellent. There are a couple tables inside if you'd like to try a cookie or a slice of the pie of the day. I love the Mom's Apple Pie metal statue by the Florence Avenue artist, Patrick Amiot, near the front door. We love supporting local businesses and this one deserves a shout out. We were in Healdsburg for vacation and we were going through wineries and stopped by Mom's Apple Pie between winery stops and we loved it! They're in a super convenient location and are open most of the day and right on an apple orchard! We entered the restaurant and we saw all of the pies and pastries and we received a warm welcome from the staff. OMG the baked pies looked amazing and absolutely called our attention! We ordered the medium apple pie for $19 and it was so so good! Apples were all so fresh and the pie had an amazing texture. I've been a customer for decades off and on and am sorry to have to write this. This local institution has gradually degraded and is no longer a place I recommend. I know prices have gone up a lot for everything but the $30 pies just aren't worth it. My friend and I calculated a mark up of at least 1500% based on the fact they grow their own apples. The taste is fine but not that special. I think Betty the original owner must have sold the place or died. There's never anyone in there and they don't like taking cash. They used to sell pie by the slice and the place was packed. Now it's $19 if you want a taste. They used to serve sandwiches too-all that went away. One exception: the strawberry pie is divine, but only available in Early June. I think the place is now a tourist trap, catching the unwary who don't know better. I hope they rethink their business model, drop their price about $12 per pie and work on improving customer service. Bored high school kids are the norm and they can do better. I recommend picking up a frozen pie at Ace hardware in town and cooking it at home. read more

We got lost and came upon this pie shop by accident. It was Friday afternoon and the parking lot was empty. The young lady inside was very helpful and friendly. We decided on two pies to take home to surprise the rest of the family. We purchased a Granny Smith apple pie and a cherry pie. When we got home we immediately went for the pie. Unfortunately both pies were mediocre in taste, the pie crust seemed old and not fresh and there just wasn't anything special about them. We spent over $40 for two small pies. I don't usually write reviews but I had to because people have been very unfair to this establishment. I read all of the terrible reviews and my curiosity was piqued because I love fruit pie and I'm always on the hunt for good ones When I went inside just before closing, a nice young woman greeted me promptly. I asked her which pies were the freshest out of the oven and she told me pretty much all of them were baked that morning. I ordered one organic apple pie and one blackberry hand pie. My kids and I ate the hand pie on the way home and thought it was delicious. There were no seeds in the blackberries, and the folded crust was thin and had the sweet, slight crunch of sparkling sugar sprinkled on top. I grew up in New England and for me, these pies are pretty close to the ones you find at farmstands back East. I've had better, but most pies I've tried are a lot worse. I find a lot of cheap supermarket pies gross, with their over-sweet, probably from a can, gelatinous compote made from gelatin or corn syrup and thick, heavy, almost bready crust. The top of the apple pie is puffy, but the amount of filling is normal for a home-baked apple pie (see photo) The apples are tart and lightly seasoned with cinnamon and sugar. They are applesaucy and not firm. I don't mind that, it reminds me of my mother's pies, but if you are someone who likes your fruit firm, the texture won't be your ideal. The crust of Mom's apple pie is thin - I would guess a primarily shortening base but maybe butter, too. The crust flavor is relatively savory but not too salty. The star of this pie is the apple. Lastly, the cost is high but seems comparable to other upscale bakery pies that I've ordered on Good Eggs, or at Wholefoods (which usually makes a pretty good pie). You can definitely find cheaper pies, but most of tbose are probably made from canned apples, lots of preservatives, or they are several days old and shipped from Michigan or something. Remember somebody has to cut up all of these apples every day or two and roll out the dough on Bay Area salaries. All in, if the type of pie I have described sounds good to you and you're craving pie made from fresh fruit, don't skip this place based on the reviews. read more

While driving from Bodega Bay, Jenner and Guernville were stopped in to pick up some dessert for after dinner later and discovered this great little place. We picked up two pies to go an Ape pie and a Strawberry Creme pie, both high domed and packed full of flavor. The strawberry was made with fresh strawberries and covered with a light whipped cream and the apple was made with local apples both were delicious. Mom bakes them!!! Baked with the apples from her backyard orchard, her pies are delicious. Regardless, she claims there are no secret ingredients to her wonderful pies, except the freshness of locally-sourced ingredients she uses! Mom has been in pie selling business since 1983, but let's roll back a few years! Betty Carr, the "Mom", is from Japan. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 when she was in her 20's. She learned her pie making skills while earning a second college degree in Home Economics. She married her late husband, Harry Carr, and they moved to Sonoma County where they operated a 5-acre, 400,000-chicken ranch. But in the 70s they sold their ranch and eventually purchased the current property that used to be a farm equipment repair shop. They started with a roadside fruit stand and then expanded it to a deli. That's about when Betty started baking and selling pies. Sadly Harry passed away in 1992, but Betty kept operating the business and they are still there today! We learned about Mom's Apple Pie through a friend who loves discovering new places. She planned a weekend daytrip to Sebastopol so we could try a few new places including Mom's Apple Pie, and we are so glad we did! The pies are delicious. We should know, because we tried so many of them! Their Gravenstein apple pie was a must of course, but we also tried - Blackberry (Delicious!) - Raspberry (Also delicious! - Pumpkin (Yessss!) - Pecan (Loved it and I am not even a fan!!) - Coconut Cream (Very good!) - Lemon Meringue (I never thought I'd like it, but I did!) and one more that I don't recall! I took my mother, who always made her own pies, and was highly critical of most pies she ate. She loved Mom's pies, said they were just like the ones my grandmother made. Mom's is on Highway 116, just beyond Guerneville Rd, Sebastopol. I live in Campbell and it is worth the two hour plus drive. The fresh and homemade fruit pies are delicious, as are the tarts. I choose an apple and it was suggested I wait a little as it had just been made. And, there were pumpkin, chocolate cream and banana cream pies and cookies! Hot coffee is available as well as ice cream and a variety of cold beverages. I hesitate to share - there is a little picnic area for customers hidden among beautiful flowers with a sweet view and a delightfully unique water fountain. Went to the gravenstein apple fair today... They DONT accept Apple Pay at their booth. The older lady is just straight up rude to younger folks. She claims they are "off the grid" and that's why they don't accept Apple Pay which is fine but don't be a b**** about it perhaps? I have come here a couple times to purchase pies for the holiday season. The pies are decent. Usually lots of choices, and sometimes have to order ahead of time, hence calling in. Today, I called to see what pies they had instead of walking in so I didn't waste my time. The lady on the phone was super rude! While k was trying to get info, she rushed off the phone and hung up. Sheesh! If you have customers in store and a customer on the phone, customer service would say, it's polite and professional to ask one customer to please hold while they are helping another customer. I've always gone here for my holiday pies, and just never thought to write a review till I already had the site open and around the Forestville area. It's uh...it's really good. Their berry pies are fantastic (the blackberry is always a particular favorite), the pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving is a serious win, and last Christmas I decided to try out a chocolate cream pie and it was luxurious and delicious! The prices is, as at least a few other people have noted, kind of high, but it's really not that bad for the quality. But certainly if you're on a tighter budget, this isn't the best option. The first time we got a small lemon meringue (~($17), and the meringue was super runny, and the filling had too much gelatin and not enough lemon, but the crust was good! Second time got a banana cream pie slice (~$7). The filling was super bland and way too much gelatin. There was a scant quarter inch of whipped cream on top. The crust was good. Very disappointed the last two times buying the apple turnovers from Mom's Apple Pies. They are burnt on the bottom and corners and that's not ok when it comes to any food being sold for money. In fact when food is burnt it should be thrown away not sold!!! If this happens again, I will no longer do business with Mom's Apple Pies. The pies here are good, but I'm oddly disappointed each time I've stopped in here. It feels empty, stark and like there's not enough activity. I wish I didn't feel this way because I'm satisfied with the baked goodies I've purchased, but I never feel welcomed by the atmosphere to sit and enjoy my goods or meet a close friend for a bite. Service is prompt and easy, selection is always extensive. Mom started this business in 1984 and continued the tradition of hand made pies. All sorts of pies are available from fruit pies, to cream pies to sugar pies!
